Book Description
An estimated one in 20 Americans has a natural talent for perceptiveness. Could you be one of them? Usually they are unskilled empaths, which means they suffer from such problems as emotional instability, apparent co-dependence, low self-esteem, or hypochondria. Rose Rosetree's seventh book, Empowered by Empathy, explains how to improve the quality of life by turning off unwanted empathy.
Her how-to techniques also demonstrate how to turn empathy on. At will. Bigger than ever before. Interspersed with her teaching, Rosetree describes elusive spiritual travels that are sometimes humorous, sometimes moving, and consistently mind-boggling. The cover, for instance, demonstrates I Want to Hold Your Hand, an outrageously simple method to move an empath's conscious awareness into the physical body of a consenting partner. An example of one of Rosetree's wild but true anecdotes? Read how she inadvertently outed a spy--see page 134. Yes, you can learn to experience vividly, from the inside, what it is like to be another person. The author, a teacher of personal development since 1971, has tested these techniques. Use them and they will alter your reality (for the better).
Rosetree's pioneering discoveries will also revolutionize how you understand empathy. You'll learn why it happens and how it goes far beyond Emotional Intelligence or sympathy. True empathy, you'll discover, comes in many varieties, including physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional gifts. Although an increasing number of authors today discuss empathy, Rosetree is the one who will satisfy you if you're really an empath. The depth and scope of her work will bring you relief. Yes, relief is not too strong a word for the rare chance to meet a skilled empath who understands your gifts and can teach you how to make them work for you.
Could you be an empath? Three tests near the start of the book will help you find out. Then you'll learn Rosetree's 25 ways to Fly in Spirit. Plus a great deal more. Pay special attention to the chapter on Grounding, with its insights into smoking, weight-loss, and morecounter-culture but absolutely on target.
And, as always with any book by Rosetree, you're in for a treat just because the writing is so good. Between the covers of Empowered by Empathy you'll find powerful words, directed with caring intent, and sparkling with Rosetree's honesty, insight, surprises, and irrepressible humor. America's first book ever for empaths can empower you to be of greater service to others. With less suffering and more skill. Consider yourself invited.
Customer Reviews:
One of the most helpful books I have ever read.......2007-07-20
There are few books out there that both inspire and inform at the same time. With each sentence, I kept nodding my head in approval because it all applied to me. As I read the part on emotional onneness and emotional intuition, I could not help getting teary eyed because for the first time I had an explanation for what I had. I was not abnormal, or an emotional wreck. I had a gift all along and I did not even know it. Also the fact that it is written by one who has actually been there is a a sigh of relief because you are not alone. I recommend this book to anyone who believes that empathy might be a part of their every day life, and I hope it is as much a blessing to you as it was to me.
Great book for understand your empathy.......2007-05-26
Some of things are long winded and not all that well explained, such as some of the exercises. I got the impression that you sort of had to understand things a bit more to really get use out of some of the exercises. Unfortunately, shutting it off and turning it back on isn't quite as simple as she'd have you believe. My empathy is very ingrained in me and I still have trouble doing it without the aid of my guides, and I'm far more advanced now. BUT... it is a wonderful book for beginning to understand more about a latent gift I didn't realize I had.
Hogwash.......2007-04-10
I was so disappointed with this book. I expected something more concrete, complex and helpful. The author used to read faces at parties as a paid party entertainer, for godssake. I read it and tried all of the exercises, and to get anything out of it you have to be one of those New-Age-suspension-of-reason types. It is simplistic and unhelpful. Someone with a more serious background in psychology is better equipped to truly help people who have a problem with feeling too much empathy.
Wonderfully helpful!.......2007-01-05
After being clued into the fact that I was an empath by my minister, I checked around for books to help me. This one by Rosetree was really helpful. I particularly liked the sections that helped me to 'shield' myself from other people's vibes. I recommend this book!!
Excellent, Most Helpful Book I've Read!.......2005-12-23
If you have lived your life thinking you are a mess, a basket case, then you owe it to yourself to READ THIS BOOK! I am very grateful to Rose for her GENUINE caring nature and her crystal clear intentions. Rose has been there and done that and is here to assist the rest of us!
Thank you Rose!

Book Description
This user-friendly handbook on plants poisonous to animals has been written and organized to serve the needs of veterinarians, livestock owners, and students. Authors Burrows and Tyrl combine the insights of a veterinary toxicologist with that of a botanist and taxonomist to provide a quick reference for individuals who deal daily with livestock or companion animals in natural settings where plant poisoning may occur. The authors have previously been acclaimed for providing easy accessibility to information in their comprehensive 2001 reference work Toxic Plants of North America that was quickly established as the gold-standard book for those requiring information on plants poisonous to animals and humans on the North American continent. Now, to satisfy the needs of veterinary clinicians, ranchers, farmers, animal scientists, toxicologists, and other diagnosticians, Burrows and Tyrl have organized this handbook by body system affected, then subdivided by clinical manifestations. Each chapter begins with a table of the plants affecting a given system, e.g., plants affecting the liver and causing necrosis. The table lists those plants and comments briefly on the salient signs. It also includes plants that would produce the same effect but will be detailed in other chapters. For each plant, signs, pathology, treatment, and problems and causes are discussed followed by general information on the plant, keys to identification of that plant, illustrations, and location maps.

An invaluable reference........2006-11-07
The hefty price tag of this paperback may limit it to college-level collections, but there it's appropriate and important for any collection strong in environmental science, veterinary science, agricultural science or botany. The organ or body system affected by the plant poison serves as a point of reference here, with chapters organized with vets, livestock owners and students in mind. Each coverage begins with the system and moves to an explanation of the toxic plants that can affect it. Color photos of each plant round out the details. An invaluable reference.

Excellent sourcebook on poisonous plants.......2002-09-10
Toxic Plants of North America is a grandiose work, fruit of many years of intense labor, as one can confirm just by leafing through its hunderds of pages. More than just an academic resource work, this treatise is one of the very few that can actually be used as a textbook for a course on poisonous plants.
Burrows and Tyrl's book is one of the most ambitious projects ever to be undertaken about North American toxic flora since 1964. Indeed a newer source of information was long overdue.
The book has also many salient features including its clarity, objectivity and a usually neglected feature in other publications, which is the inclusion of pertinent information about poisonous plants of Mexico.
I highly recommend this book as a text for courses dealing with poisonous plants offered by Universities in their colleges of Animal Science, Range Ecology and Veterinary Medicine.
Toxic Plants of North America is destined to be a definitive work on the subject.
Book Description
This definitive book represents the life's work of the late Richard Evans Schultes, one of the fathers of modern ethnobotany and the greatest plant explorer of our age, including nearly 50 years of field research in the Northwest Amazon.

Book Description
Written for ranchers, landowners, 4-H-ers, veterinarians, and anyone interested in wild or ornamental plants, Toxic Plants of Texas is a complete, practical guide to 106 of the most common poisonous plants in Texas.
In a handy, well-illustrated format, experts Charles R. Hart, John C. Reagor, Bruce B. Carpenter, A. Catherine Barr, and Tam Garland provide descriptions of each plant, explaining where it grows, what makes it toxic, and how much an animal must eat to be affected. They also offer a primer on different kinds of poisoning, lists of symptoms, and strategies for treatment and prevention. An overview of integrated toxic plant management summarizes an economical and environmentally sound approach to reducing livestock losses by controlling toxic plants. At the back of the book, a field key cross-references animal symptoms with plant species.
An abundance of excellent color photographs aid in the identification of each plant's toxic features, including the flowers, fruits, pods, and roots.
Customer Reviews:
great info.......2007-07-18
This book is very specific about what animals each plant is toxic and how toxicity shows up in that animal. It gives tips on how to help that animal and when to call the vet. The opposite page usually shows three views of the plant being talked about - the bloom, the whole plant, and the leaves.
This information is available online, but is much handier in book form.
Native Plants of Texas.......2004-10-22
This is a marvelous book for anyone interested in the native plants of Texas. The color pictures are superb. This book covers many of the common Texas range plants that are not often considered toxic except when eaten by livestock to excess. It also describes the really poisonous ones in detail with clear photos.

Product Description
Americas first book for empaths has been selling briskly since first published in 2001. Heres the new audiobook edition, for empaths, read by empaths. Although an estimated 1 in 20 Americans was born an empath, few know it. They are unskilled empaths, which means they suffer from such problems as emotional instability, (apparent) co-dependence, low self-esteem, and hypochondria. Rose Rosetree's pioneering book can change that. She explains how listeners can improve the quality of life by turning off unwanted empathy. Her self-help method also includes techniques to turn empathy on. At will. For direct experience of what it is like to be a completely different person. Science fiction? Not really. Rosetree regularly receives thank you letters that say, How come nobody told me this before? and, sometimes, You have saved my life. Rosetree teaches her techniques on three continents, from Japans premier seminar institute to public schools in the Bible Belt (with professional credit for therapists and doctors). What makes her techniques so distinctive? They involve new ways to move consciousness--not hackneyed ideas like Avoid toxic people and Put up walls. Empaths need something more, something different. Now anyone can learn
in the comfort of home
how to become a skilled empath, just by listening to this amazing book.

Wonderful adjunct to the written word.......2007-08-30
"Jen's upset about something." my co-worker said about our receptionist. I looked up from my paperwork and replied "How can you tell that just by how she walks down the hallway? " "I don't know. I just can. Can't everyone?
Actually, no. Only one in twenty of us are empaths - those of us who "identify with and understand another's situation, feelings, and motives" (American Heritage dictionary). If you are someone with those gifts, this audiobook is well worth the time invested in listening to it.
Rose Rosetree, teacher, author and yes, empath has written and recorded a very unique guide for those of us with these wonderful skills in "Empowered by Empathy". Not only does she explain the various forms of empathic knowing (emotional oneness, intellectual shapeshifting, etc.) but she goes on to offer a variety of techniques specifically designed to assist in working with these gifts rather than being hindered by them.
My co-worker, mentioned above, is exquisitely attuned to what others are feeling. Yet, she's had to all but turn that ability off in order to stay afloat emotionally. Because of her centered and calm demeanor, others are drawn to her and she often finds herself drowning in their "stuff". If you've been there, as I have, you know it's not a fun place to be. Rose teaches skills that will show you how to turn down the empathy dial so you can still be present for others but take care of yourself at the same time. She also gives you real life examples to clarify her points and shares her answers to questions the reader might have (based on her years of working with empaths).
The six cd set runs a bit over seven hours and is great to listen to in the car. Rosetree's voice carries her clear and positive intent as a teacher of this wonderful work. I listened on my way to work and felt uplifted by the twinkly energy in her voice. I read the book a couple years ago but listening to it allowed me to catch things I missed by reading and also jogged my mind about techniques that were relevant to my own inner work. One of the things I like most about all of Rose's books is her ability to speak to different levels of the audience without losing anyone by being too technical nor boring anyone by being too basic.
A wonderful adjunct to the printed book, "Empowered by Empathy" audiobook is a good way to learn how to fine tune your empathic skills and have a little fun with it.
Narration by the author packs an extra punch.......2007-08-22
The content is so innovative and helpful, and I loved the voices. Rosetree's especially packed a punch for me. To have such a powerful empath read these words made them penetrate deeply into my consciousness. If you are an empath and you love audiobooks, this book will make a deep and healing impression on you, as well.Let Today Be A Holiday 365 Ways to Co-Create with GodAura Reading Through ALL Your Senses: Celestial Perception Made Practical, Second Edition
Very strongly recommended.......2006-12-10
Rose Rosetree draws upon her many years of experience and expertise with empath empowerment in Empowered by Empathy: Twenty-Five Ways To Fly In Spirit an informative introduction to awakening personal empathy through the application of Rosetree's expert techniques and intuitive spiritual development. This six-disc CD audiobook edition of Empowered by Empathy has a total running time of 7 hours, 13 minutes and deftly carries the listener through easy, step-by-step techniques to taking hold of and control life; turning on the gifts for recognition of the true experience of "otherness"; turning off the gifts to block picking up the pains of others; and obtaining a practical understanding of empathy as a true and enduring blessing, regardless of how much suffering has resulted in having lived as an untrained, uncontrolled empath in the past. Empowered by Empathy is very strongly recommended, especially for those who were born with physical, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, or metaphysical empathy.

Over-two thirds of the U.S. population is allergic to poison oak, poison ivy, or a related plant. These and many other common plants in our homes, fields, and gardens are irritants that cause misery to many. But surprisingly, there has never been a general guide to help raise awareness of them--and to help avoid them. This new book reviews the history, occurrence, classification, toxicity, and health aspects of all the major allergenic and irritant species.

Until this summer, the biggest problems 16-year-old Samantha Davis faced were her embarrassingly large breasts, (nicknamed "the Grand Tetons after those mountains in Wyoming,") and the fact that her gorgeous best friend, Kitty, always made her feel like a Plain Jane: "It sounds awful, but if you saw a Jaguar and a Ford Taurus parked next to each other, which one would you want to drive?" But now Sammie's parents are splitting, and suddenly she is being assaulted by changes from every direction. She is forced to move from upstate New York to Manhattan, play nursemaid to her depressed mother, and suffer the utter boredom of not knowing anyone in a city of 8 million. But then she meets Eli, the cute "crunchy granola" son of her mom's friend, and Phoebe, the quirky girl in Central Park who categorizes people by the dog breed they resemble. Exposure to the urban scene, new friendships, and a developing sense of self cause Sammie to realize "that along with love comes other four-letter words. Like hate, obviously.... And gain. And most important, grow."
Like other recently published first novelists Lori Aurelia Williams (When Kambia Elaine Flew in from Neptune) and Cat Bauer, (Harley: Like a Person), Carolyn Mackler convincingly captures all the drama, longing, and humor of 21st-century female adolescence. Fresh, funny, and completely irreverent, Love and Other Four-Letter Words is destined to find a place in the hearts of teenaged girls. (Ages 12 and older) --Jennifer Hubert
Book Description
With her parents splitting up, 16-year-old Sammie Davis may not want to feel a thing, but feelings happen. For starters, she’s plenty angry. Her dad’s leaving their upstate New York home and moving clear across
the country. Her mother—well, she’s packing up and relocating to New York City with Sammie, who has no say about any of it. Overnight Sammie is forced to deal with change. And one change spawns another: Roles get reversed, old and new friendships tested, and sexual feelings awakened. It’s a scary time. But as Sammie realizes that things can’t stay the same forever, that even the people she loves and trusts the most can disappoint her, she begins to accept that change isn’t always bad. It’s how you cope, jumbled feelings and all, that counts. And as she copes, Sammie’s sense of self emerges proud and strong.

A slow start with a grand finish........2007-06-09
I read Vegan Virgin Valentine first. That was a great book, so this author had a lot to live up to. It was a slow start, but Carolyn Mackler managed to come out ahead in the end. I really felt like she captured the heart of Sammie Davis. Did Sammie find love and other-four letter words? You'll have to read the book to find out. Or other reviews. Wink. Wink.
Carolyn Mackler never disappoints.......2007-03-30
This young adult novel, by the prolific Carolyn Mackler, chronicles Samantha Davis' move to New York City after her parents separate. Before the separation, Sammy lived in upstate New York with her professor dad and former-artist mom, and hung out with her gorgeous best friend Kitty. Kitty gladly reports details of her burgeoning sexual exploits to Samantha, to Sammy's dismay. Post-move, Sammy is splitting a Manhattan apartment with her mom, who is severely depressed due to the divorce and discovers moving back to NYC doesn't necessary make her "artist's block" disappear. Samantha finds herself responsible for avoiding parking tickets, paying bills, and getting groceries as her mom sinks into depression, while avoiding her father's phone calls. While taking care of the dog, Samantha befriends Phoebe, and realizes perhaps Kitty wasn't the best "friend" a girl should have. The major changes in her life cause Samantha to realize she's growing up, and deals with friendship, her parents, and romantic relationships. The humor of this novel, paired with frequent pop-culture references, and realistic adolescent worries make this another great addition to the Carolyn Mackler line of Young Adult novels.
I Love This Book.......2007-01-22
I first picked up this book back when I was in middle school. I love the title - that's what made me want to read it. In reading the book, I wasn't very interested in Sammie's family problems, I was more interested in her interaction with members of the opposite sex, as I suppose any curious middle school kid would be. I remember being fascinated with Eli and wishing my own Eli would come find me.
It's a great, fun read. I read it again this year (I'm a senior in high school now) just for kicks. Read it in about three hours :-) It's just a cute book to give the middle school girl in your life.
Good, but not powerful.......2006-09-05
I was really looking forward to reading this book because I LOVE "The Earth, My Butt and Other Big, Round Things" but I found this book merely to be a good read. I was etertained without beeing moved by the situations Sammi faced, and I feel her charater was more shallow and undeveloped compaired to the situations she was facing. I did find Eli a very interesting fellow, and I was moved at times by the relationship between Sammi and her mother. I just wish there was more development of that teenaged angest.
sucky!!!! ugh.......2006-07-14
goodness, what do I have to say to this poorly written novel. hmmm.....Sucky!!! Wow this book seemed like it could have been written by a second grader. It was so not what I thought it would be. Don't buy it I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DON'T!!
