In the decades following the first Earth Day in 1970, a generation has been enlightened about the unspeakable damage done to our planet. Federal, state, and local governments generated laws and regulations to control development and protect the environment. Local governments have developed environmental standards addressing their needs. The result-an ecologically incongruous pattern of land development known as urban sprawl. Local land use planners can have a greater effect on the quality of our environment than all of the federal and state regulators combined. Historically, they have existed on the periphery of land management. The author suggests that federal and state environmental regulators need to incorporate local governments into their environmental protection plans. Ecologically Based Municipal Land Use Planning provides easily understood, nuts and bolts solutions for controlling urban sprawl, emphasizing the integration of federal, state, and local land use plans. The book discusses ecological resources and provides practical solutions that municipal planners can implement immediately. It discusses the most recent scientific data, how to extract what is important, and how to apply it to the local land planning process. The author includes the application of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to problem solving. Despite compelling evidence and sound arguments favoring the implementation of an ecologically sensitive approach to land use planning, municipal planners, in general, remain skeptical. It will take considerably more encouragement and education to win them over completely. Much Needed Ecological Planning Guide.......2001-02-22

Honachefsky provides planning practitioners with a much-needed justification and framework for moving land use planning in a more sustainable direction. Through ecosystem inventories, use of indicators of the health of community natural resources, and GIS mapping tools, land use plans can better complement rather than ignore natural systems. Provides a lot of detail but not overwhelming. I would have like a little more how-to instruction.

First off, I am 15. (maybe I should have said that last so people will actually try to take me seriously.)If you have read the other reviews for this book, you must think that you are ready to burn the book.Here is what I have to say.
it is not pornographic.
I'm not saying it's appropriate for all ages. I would reccomend 15+ but it's also important to think of your morals and if you want to be exsposed to hints of sex, body parts, cussing, and just not content that is not very "classy" to talk about. Alright the writing isn't great but it is written for teens so it isn't going to be completely classy. (not that all teens are not classy) but it is able to keep me interested. The characters, have thier own personalities. Some of them I hate, but some characters I like. I enjoy the characters with better morals. For example: One character is "holding onto it for the right guy" and one character is the president of the celebicy (sp?) club.
The ending also gives an important message and teaches the kids a lesson about how what they were doing has consequnces. (and in my opinion they deserved it. ;))
All in all, I enjoyed this book, but others may hate it. It's your choice.

I would NOT want my 12 year old son to read this book. Not just because of the subject matter but also because I didn't find it very well written. The things they deal with in the book could be handled by some kids, but it all depends on their maturity level. My first impression was that it should be for maybe High School kids, but not for middle schoolers. I think it would just give them ideas to try sexual things that are described in the book. All I kept thinking while I was reading was that I do NOT think this should be allowed in school libraries. (which I have read that it is indeed in some school libraries)
Overall, I didn't think the book was worth all the hype..but you decide!

rainbow party.......2006-08-12

an hilarious misunderstanding resulted in my purchase of this book, but it still provided a somewhat entertaining read. various students at a seemingly sex-starved american high school ruminate over whether to attend a 'rainbow party', planned by the local slut. each has his or her reason to both go and not go, and their reasons are generally well explained.
the book can be read at two levels, but each end up voiding the other. on one level, it could be seen to add to this apparent scandal sweeping america, spreading the word to even more poor, innocent teenagers who would then indulge in such 'sordid' behaviour. obviously, this would result from an extremely lazy reading. the other level works on a level of satire, be it at the televised psychological aid rife in the states, the bush regime's 'abstinence only' school agenda or the alleged hurried maturity of children today. the facile reading, and the scandal it would cause, though, easily overshadows any good that could come of a rational exploration of the issues raised.

I am still a teenager and i bought the book thinking it would be another trashy novel (gossip girl anyone)to add to my collection.. i had not heard anything about it before hand. Once i read it i was shocked its disgusting and totally innapropriat for anyone my age to read. If the author really wanted to make a point that this goes on why did he feel the need for the graphic oral sex scene? ok so oral sex forsure happens in high school but like why was it neccesary to glorify it like something so amazing in a book directed to teenagers.. making it seem like "everyones doing it"

I thought this was a wonderful book. It dealt well with the issue showing that besides the emotional and social issues surrounding rainbow parties, that there are physical consequenses from oral sex. But it doesnt go out and say dont do it, its bad, your bad if you do it. It doesnt tell the reader what to think. I believe it allows the reader to be informed and make their own descisions. And "Rainbow Party" was a good novel to read. It serves as a good read and a better way to teach sex education that schools dont go into.

I have no idea what this book is about or if it is any good or not, but the title is repulsive. A rainbow party is one where girls take turns fellating members of the opposite sex in turn. The end result is the guys members' are smeared with many shades of lipstick, thus a rainbow party

I bought this book for my daughter thinking that it was going to have actual 3-D holograms (she has another book that actually does have this). I was disappointed when it arrived and only has shiny paper for details in the pictures. The story is cute, but not anything special.

This book is wonderful. All the pictures are holographic and really hold a child's attention. This is the only book that my 12 month old daughter wants me to read to her. It even interests my 3 year old son!
