I liked it - found it worthwhile.......2006-02-23
For somebody who appreciates exceptionally fine photography and writing that is definitely a cut above today's standard, I highly recommend Pacific in My Soul. Seldom does a "picture book" do it for me, but this is an exception. Having acquired my first copy as a gift, I've now found it an excellent way to communicate that majesty we here on the Northwest Coast are lucky enough to call "home". I've not yet read any of Anne Chadwick's other work, but am looking forward to doing so. Her descriptions are accurate, vivid and most of all, readable. She is an author who knows both her subject, and has a way of delighting her readers with the simplicity and the depth of her understanding of nature captured in both word and photography.
Fantastic Pictures.......2006-02-10
Looking at the pictures in this book took my breath away! The photography is so wonderful, I felt as if I could reach into the pictures and feel the water. I would love to have many of these framed in my house. I loved how Ms. Chadwick used her personal experiences in the book to tell me how she took them. She gave information about the animals and locations in such and easy to read and relateable way. A lovely book to keep around!
Stunning Photography and Words.......2005-10-12
I picked this up while I was on vacation up at Sea Ranch this August. I love finding local books. I've been going to Sea Ranch for the past 5 years or so and this book is like bringing a little bit of that life home with us. I have read it and loved it, but leave it out on the coffee table, where just a glance is like a whiff of ocean breeze that calms my soul and soothes me.
Powerful.......2005-01-25
Pacific in My Soul by Anne Chadwick is a remarkable effort. From the gray whales of San Ignacio Bay in Baja to the brown bears of Katmai in Alaska, the book examines the Pacific coast from a naturalist's keen and insightful perspective. It's a surprisingly big view of a big place in a compact 96-page package. More than 40 illustrated essays cover fauna (seals, otters, sea lions, whales, raccoons, deer, bear, elk, eagles, cormorants, swans, butterflies); flora (azaleas, rhododendrons, lilies, amanita); phenomena (waves, storms, fog, moon); and moods (sunrises, solitude, morning dew, sunsets). The writing is engaging, entertaining, and enlightening. The style is crisp, fresh, and lyrical. The voice is contemplative and reverent, and not a bit shrill or strident. The photography is stunning. Pacific in My Soul is practically a clinic in combining the visual with the verbal to evoke a powerful sense of place. Highly recommended.
Beautiful photography, nice writing style.......2004-12-28
Whether you have been there and want to reminisce or just want to understand the draw of the northern Pacific coast you will enjoy the beautiful photography and personal narrative of Pacific in My Soul. Pelicans, elephant seals, egrets, waves, sea otters, solitude, rhododendrons, herons, tidal pools, gray whales, redwoods, raccoons, ospreys, wildflowers, fog (beautiful picture), sea lions, lily, orcas, butterflies, elk, bald eagles, sunsets and other subjects are addressed in the book. Written as a personal sharing of the author's favorite things about the Pacific Northwest, it is both a beautiful and intimate work. Pacific in My Soul is highly recommended for nature enthusiasts of all kinds.

Indispensable for parents traveling with children.......2000-04-12
This book is so informative and so interesting, it is absolutely mandatory for parents traveling with children in areas of the world where there are health issues beyond your experience. There is a prodigious amount of up-to-date and accessible information packed into this volume--and it's the kind of book that you want to read from cover to cover, even the parts less relevant to your needs. My husband and I recently returned from a six-month sojourn in Thailand, Laos and Burma with our four children (aged 7, 5, 3 and 1). We carried this book as part of our medical kit, and it was invaluable in preparing that medical kit and also in helping to plan our trip itinerary (i.e., the book convinced us that malaria was the one nonnegotiable health issue). Memorable anecdotes from expatriate and traveling families pepper the book. There's nothing else like this out there.

Written for teachers, including Sunday school teachers, parents, and professionals, this book outlines scriptural principles and techniques that will revolutionize your ability to teach to change lives. Make a Difference
Students learn best when teachers teach best! So how can you do your part? Employ the seven laws of the learner and unleash your students’ capabilities. You’ll discover how to:
Help students reach their full potential
Effect lasting life change
Rekindle your flame for teaching
Create an excitement for learning
Transform apathetic students
Whether you’re a professional teacher, a parent, or teach in any setting, these principles and techniques will empower you to make a lasting impact in people’s lives. Thousands of teachers have already used these principles to spur their students to new horizons of success.
âFor some time I have said to myself, âMuch of what I am doing in the classroom is a waste of time. I can’t continue this career unless I can make a more significant contribution in the lives of my students.’ The Seven Laws of the Learner was the answer to my need.â
Seminary professor
Portland , Oregon
âFor years I filled my students with content. But since learning the seven laws, my life and teaching have not been the same. Now teaching for life change and revival are becoming second nature.â
Businessman, adult Sunday school teacher
Orange , California
Story Behind the Book
Bruce Wilkinson had received thousands of requests for a book about how people learn. Having taught teachers all over the world, he developed the Seven Laws as the basis of his teaching workshops. In 1991 he sat down to put this content into book form. Published originally as a partnership between Multnomah Publishers and Walk Thru the Bible Ministries, this book is a companion to the workbook titled Almost Every Answer for Practically Every Teacher.

The Seven Laws of the Learner.......2007-09-24
I am a freshman in college and am in the Secondary English track. This book is actually one of our textbooks, and it is by far my favorite book! If you want to become a master teacher, read this book and apply its principles. All my former teachers are getting this book from me for Christmas this year!
The Seven Laws of the Learner.......2007-01-12
The text book accompanied with the video series is a phenomenal teacher training package. I am beginning the second series with the book and videos this month (January) The readings by themselves are excellent, but seeing Dr. Bruce Wilkinson in action has made the attendess read the book.
This book is highly recommended for anyone thinking about teaching or persons in leadership.
Teach ANYTHING to anyone?! I don't think so!.......2005-11-13
These books have the most misleading titles! Unless you are teaching Sunday school bible classes, this book is mostly useless, because the only examples it gives you are about how to better teach the bible. The title says 'teach almost anything to pratically anyone'. That is so NOT TRUE. Sure, it gives you some pointers, but I feel I have to squeeze the text really hard to get some juice.
I bought this book and 'Almost Every Answer for Practically Any Teacher' hoping to learn how to teach better, and to get in touch with modern teaching skills. What a disappointment and a waste of money! The other book went straight to the garbage can.
Another thing: if all the examples of bible teaching were stripped out of the book, it would be half the size and, perhaps, a much more pleasurable read. Maybe it would even earn another star!
7LL Users Review.......2005-03-06
Three years ago, our church of about 1,000 set about to reinvent itself within our Christian Education department. At about 26,000 feet flying somewhere over Arizona, I was shaken while reading it for the first time. It shocked me into realizing how really boring many teachers can communicate without anyone learning anything...always pushing content while omitting any application or creativity to ensure learning. These principles revitalized my own teaching, and I have used it as our core curriculum for the 15 teachers we have in our education department. Our teachers have come up with some great classes as well as creative ideas in their professional/occupational lives as a result of this book.
Going on year three, we stand by this book as the best-of-class, and continue using its principles weekly. We now have a growing and alive ministry, and can honestly say this book began it all. This book is a "must" if you want to change lives vs. "cover" the material.
A book for all.......2004-10-19
As someone who sat under Bruce Wilkinson during his college classes, I really wanted to read this book. It's not that I'm a teacher now, but I serve in a project management role.
A lot of the information taught in this book relates to working with people. Some of the information I need is from my technical staff - my role in learning. Some of the information I need is to be taught to the everyday user - the my role in teaching. While "Loving your students unconditionally" may not apply in the real world, it actually does.
I find my co-workers respond better to someone who cares about them then by someone who is just doing the work.
A must read book!

Contextually Not Impressed.......2005-01-11
Guess my being the 1st reviewer may be a tip off that this isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then again, I had to buy it for my Master's and I had 10 other books calling my name, three of which I found so intersting and relevant that this one took a back seat because the others were so fantastic.
Of course, how many teachers are out there who want a religiously orientated book? I'm really not sure. If you do fit in this category, you may want to try it out. What's the worst that could possibly happen? You tell everyone it was a waste and ignore the author completely?
Book Description
"A life-oriented plan to prepare teachers to really enjoy their chosen profession…Educators, School Board members, parents, and interested community leaders should make Burke’s book a must-read."
Father John E. Walsh, B.Ph, S.T.L., S.S.L.
Pastor, St. John Brebeuf Parish, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Radio Talk Show Host CJAD 800 AM Montreal
"Should be a part of every teacher college or university based teacher training curriculum, and available in the faculty libraries and school administration resource shelves of every school building in every school district in the country."
James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief
The Midwest Book Review
Reduce stress, avoid burnout, and ensure success with these tips and tools of the trade!
High levels of stress are an occupational hazard of the teaching profession, resulting from inadequate training for the broad scope of teacher responsibilities that extend beyond instruction. This comprehensive guide masterfully fills this void by creating a step-by-step sequence of practical techniques—based on research on successful teaching, and grounded in real-life examples—guiding teachers toward an effective action plan for successful teaching and classroom management.
The manual’s concrete suggestions give teachers the skills and tactics they need to manage, control, and enrich their professional lives, with positive impacts and successes following beyond the classroom as well.
Tackling major issues from designing effective lesson plans to maximizing limited resources, each chapter of this well-organized book begins with stated objectives and ends with a concise summary, making it easy to read, understand, and implement. It features a myriad of helpful hints that are invaluable in planning for the expected and the unexpected in the classroom, and in invigorating overall performance.
Key value-added elements are:
- 13 easy-to-use resources, including lesson planning worksheets, calendar organizers, a substitute teacher kit, parent-teacher conferences reference, and a listing of professional organizations
- "Success Tips" sections throughout that highlight proven methods for working efficiently and effectively
- "True Stories" that punctuate and reinforce the techniques outlined
- Targeted questions in each chapter that encourage personalized reflection and solutions
