Intresting but not very precise information.......2000-04-02
Complete Book of Dwarf Chiclids by Hans Joachim Richter is quite a big, beautiful book. Full of photos, schemes and drawings it is quite disapointing when you read it. The marjority of books on dwarf chiclids focus on south american dwarf chiclids. This book goes further and bring some african species too, but in both south american and african chiclids there is an seriuos problem : lack ok essencial information. The book describes few species of chiclids, it gives basic info, but as a hobbyist, I think I would expect more of this beautiful book. I know it is hard to keep an book up to date, specially with some genus like Apistogramma, in witch new species are being described every day. One final observation : The author is an exellent photographer, his book has marvellous photos....if he could update this book with more info, it would be just great!
Book Description
South American dwarf cichlids are popular for their coloration, size, ease of care, and other attributes. This book covers all known aquarium species and describes more than twenty new species, along with three new genera recently discovered. Written by two prominent authorities on the subject, this is the most comprehensive volume of its kind.

Very Good Book.......2004-12-27
After purusing the book, and noticing the detailed information submitted by the authors I'd say this book is a must for South American Dwarf Cichlid lovers.
Excellent reference.......2000-07-09
The book is entitled American Cichlids I - Dwarf Cichlids. You won't find any African cichlids here, but you will find an in-depth useable reference for Apistos, the various dwarf acaras and checkerboard cichlids, etc. Much easier to read than the Mayland & Bork book, although that one is slightly newer and covers more Apistos, more in depth.
Good reference book for dwarf cicilid lovers.......1999-04-02
This is a book to own. It has many dwarf species info. from South America. And it gives very useful care and breeding guide for people who want to take care of these fishes. Beautiful pics and printing are very readable. Try to get one !!
Very thorough book, on American Cichlids only........1998-09-22
This is a beautifully illustrated book with great information, if you are interested in American cichlids only. It is clearly stated on the front cover and spine that this book covers American Cichlids, but that fact is not mentioned anywhere in Amazons info. The book is worthless for what I wanted.
Book Description
This book gives comprehensive information about the popular dwarf cichlids of South America. It makes a wonderful completion to AQUALOG South American Cichlids II. All AQUALOG -reference books introduce each fish (incl. breeding forms etc.)with at least one color photo and a short description. The ingenious code number system labels every known or newly discovered fish with an individual code number. This number re mains, despite any scientific renaming. Moreover, it enables you to communicate internationally about any fish without the danger of confusion regarding local names! Your AQUALOG -reference book always stays up-to-date! All newly discovered or bred species are regularly published as supplements or so-called "stickups" in our AQUALOGnews. These stickers can be attached to the empty pages at the end of your book. If you want more information about these interesting fishes, you'll find it in our AQUALOG -reference book "South American Cichlids II"!

Cannot be Bettered.......2007-01-20
All of the Aqualog books are excellent value, although they are not particularly cheap. They are full to the brim with first class colour photographs and to reproduce these in book form is an expensive process. Whether they are about Dwarf Cichlids or some other species of fish they are the most comprehensive identification books you can buy. They never become dated because as new fish become available to the aquarist trade the books are updated. Either the book itself is updated or there are additional supplements that can be added.
The books are primarily for the specialist hobbyist rather than one who has a community tank in his or her living room. There is certainly nothing wrong with that scenario, but the Aqualog books are geared towards the hobbyist with a fish house who specialises in a particular species of fish. Having said all that I am sure anyone interested in tropical fish would love town and look at the Aqualog books and if they can afford them why not?
Good reference.......2000-07-09
To be considered an updated version of Linke & Staeck. This book coves all Apistogramma species covered in the former book plus many more, but Linke & Staeck cover a wider range of genus' (Crenicichla, Laetacara, Nannacara, etc). This book has an excellent introduction on keeping, history, physiology, reproduction, etc. Many species include a very useful chemical analysis of the natural water. The english translation is almost painful at times.
Excellent Reference Guide for Dwarf Cichlid Enthusiasts.......1999-07-03
I have enjoyed breeding various dwarf cichlids for last ten years (from Dicrossus filamentosus to Apistogramma iniridae) and this is by far the best reference guide on South American dwarf cichlids since Link and Staek's "American Cichlids I." The number and quality of photographs are excellent. I appreciated having several pictures of a single species to refer to for identification since most books only offer one picture of a male and female representative of the species. It is a very comprehensive work and I would call it a "MUST" for anyone who is interested in the proper identification of South American dwarf cichlids.
It's really a good book........1999-03-04
It's not only a good book but also a necessory book for all dwarf cichlids' breeders. Important information in this book can be found and it's useful for you keeping and breeding your dwarf cichlids.

Dwarf Cichlids by david Boruchowiztz.......2001-09-22
I was very disappointed by this book. Vague and woolly. It didn't address the specifics needs for breeding Apistogrammas for example. Great pictures, but you can get great pictures free on the net. The quality of the photography is first rate and if you want a book just for browsing occasionally then its fine.
A good beginners guide.......2000-03-29
This book is beautiful. It has many wonderful pictures of the many varieties of dwarf cichlids, both New World and African. However, the lack of content makes it not very valuble for the advanced aquarian. It tells very little about the habitats needed by the different types of dwarf cichlids. It does not tell what tank size each type of cichlid needs, nor does it address the Ph and hardness needed by the various cichlids. The pictures, while clearly labeled, are not with the descriptions of the dwarf cichlids they show. While you can use this book to find pictures of dwarf cichlids that you may be interested in, you will have to go elsewhere to learn how to keep them in their optimal enviroment.

If You're Into Vegetable Gardening..........2000-03-29
This book is filled with information that will allow you to finally figure out what to plant, how much to plant, when to plant, etc. Have you ever had an over abundance of zukes, but ran short of green beans? Well, the planning guides included in this book are designed to assist you in planting what you and your family need. Covers in detail seed starting, fertilizing, water-saving techniques, "no-weed" gardening, recipes for home-made, safe pest control, perserving the harvest and seed saving. I especially appreciated the large 8-1/2 x 11 inch format of the book...and it's wire bound so that it lies flat. Written in a style that reminds one of Ruth Stout.

Customer Reviews:
a valuable historical text.......2004-09-30
This book is maybe not an adequate text for people who don't like literature and history. It is a text that talks about traditions, the reconquest of Spain...it makes you wonder what would the world look like today if Spain stayed in the hands of Arab tribes from the North of Africa...
Not appealing, not anything.................2001-12-01
This book was at times dull and boring, often put me to sleep during my Spanish class. I guess the parts dealing with the battles were alright, but the weddings and dialogue were horendous.

Book Description
The Belgian block cipher Rijndael was chosen in 2000 by the U.S. government’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to be the successor to the Data Encryption Standard. Rijndael was subsequently standardized as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), which is potentially the world’s most important block cipher. In 2002, some new analytical techniques were suggested that may have a dramatic effect on the security of the AES. Existing analytical techniques for block ciphers depend heavily on a statistical approach, whereas these new techniques are algebraic in nature.
Algebraic Aspects of the Advanced Encryption Standard, appearing five years after publication of the AES, presents the state of the art for the use of such algebraic techniques in analyzing the AES.
The primary audience for this work includes academic and industry researchers in cryptology; the book is also suitable for advanced-level students.

The Theatrical Illusion.......2000-04-10
I decided to read this book because i had seen a play of "The Theatrical Illusion" being presented and i had adored it. So, i decided to read the book to be able to explore every verse and every line and now i like the story even more. Life is an illusion indeed, an illusion of love, hate, betrayal... Infidelity and hate is just a part of the picture of love and faith, these are all knit up in our lives. Read this book to see the illusion of reality of our lives...
Customer Reviews:
an excellent undergraduate text.......2007-09-28
This dual language book is excellent for teaching the Cid to English speaking students, providing the necessary back up to the medieval Castillian that is difficult for undergraduates. The introductory materials provide all the necessary background from a literary, historical and linguistic perspective.
Absolutely wonderful.......2003-02-07
This edition of The Poem of the Cid is truly wonderful. For starters, it is a bilingual edition, presenting the reader with the original medieval Spanish text. The translation itself is highly readable. The humour and tension in particular scenes shine in this translation.
The story itself is also marvelous. We get a wonderful sense of the confusion and ambiguities of the feudal society. The uniqueness of the Spanish feudal experience comes through brilliantly. The Muslims are dealt with with more accuracy and tolerance than in any other work of medieval literature. The two Jewish characters in the poem -- moneylenders -- are presented without scorn. Indeed, it is the Frankish (probably Norman) count of Barcelona who is portrayed as the moronic outsider. There is much excellent description of medieval warfare, clothing, hommage ceremonies, and use of money, but most enlightening part of the story is the long trial scene.
The poem is short, with a fast-paced and coherent plot. It is very easy to read this in one sitting because it is so gripping.

Product Description
CID: Army Detectives in Peace and War focuses on criminal investigations, both funny and serious, conducted by the author and his fellow special agents. The cases range from thefts to murder, including the murders of two special agents in Vietnam, one of whom was a member of the authors CID detachment. The book contains cases from WWII through Vietnam.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting but vanity press editing.......2006-02-20
Mr Marlow experienced an interesting career in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1976 as an army detective in the CID. Born in Germany and having lived there as a child in World War II, he immigrated to the U.S., joined the Army as an MP, and was able to rise up to be a Warrant Officer.
He tells of his own experiences investigating Army crimes, and give stories by other CID agents. Some interesting photos too. It stands out as one of the few first person accounts of this investigative agency.
However the book was obviously published by a vanity press because of the poor editing. That aside, I recommend it for the military investigations buff.

Book Description
Spanning El Cid (1140) to El burlador de Sevilla (1630), Classic Spanish Stories and Plays contains eight great Spanish classics works including Don Quixote, one of the masterpieces of world literature. Expertly abridged and adapted for the intermediate learner, each tale and play includes ample cultural notes and translations of difficult words. An extensive vocabulary is included at the back of the book.

Painless short intro to Spanish lit.......2006-05-09
This is a review of Classic Spanish Stories and Plays, adapted by Marcel C. Andrade. McGraw-Hill, 2001 (ISBN 0658011383).
After finishing Spanish IV at my community college, I started Don Quijote with the aid of Tom Lathrop's `Don Quijote Dictionary.' Even with the dictionary, Cervantes was slow going, so I decided to retrace my steps and gain some reading practice with something simpler. That's when I found this book. It contains eight Spanish stories (El Cid, Los cuentos el conde Lucanor, La Celestina, Lazarillo de Tormes, Don Quijote, Fuenteovejuna, La verdad sospechosa, and El burlador de Sevilla) greatly simplified for the intermediate student. (NB: an `intermediate' student knows what past subjunctive and conditional are.) I found that the editor's glosses matched my knowledge pretty closely; e.g. I very rarely had to look up a word that wasn't glossed. By the way, a vocabulary is included in the back of almost every word used in the text. Footnotes are used to explain cultural issues, though the notes to Don Quijote makes me think Andrade doesn't have a lot of sympathy with that ingenioso hildago.
All stories except Don Quijote are complete. But Andrade judiciously adapts chapter by chapter with Don Quijote, and includes only fourteen. He stops with the narrator finding the Arabic continuation of the tale by Cide Hamete Beningeli. Having read that far of the real Don Quijote, I enjoyed reinforcing my vocabulary with the glossing, and I liked being able to enjoy the story without looking up every fourth word.
My goal in Spanish is to read it semi-fluently. The only way to attain that goal is to read, read, read. Andrade's Spanish reader makes that possible, and rather painlessly at that. It's an excellent choice for any intermediate student who wants reading practice and doesn't mind gaining a superficial knowledge of some Spanish literary masterpieces at the same time - highly recommended.
Great Intro To Spanish Literature & Culture.......2005-03-21
This delightful book is the second volume of the Spanish Reader Series, which began with the Easy Spanish Reader. This book follows the same general principles--immediate immersion in the readings, no tedious grammar or vocabulary drills, no verb conjugations, just reading and understanding. So, I found myself advancing rapidly and enjoying myself immensely.
The readings are modernized and abridged versions of the classic literature of Spain--from 1140 (the Cid) to 1630 (El Burlador de Sevilla). Needless to say, they reflect a different world than ours, a world preoccupied with honor and gallantry, kings who are (supposed to be) wise, and nobles who dress well even if they have nothing to eat. And a view of women that is almost unbelievable from the America of 2005. You've read about the feudal age in Europe, but this book draws you into the soul of that long vanished era. I was surprised to find these works charming, interesting, and often quite humorous, in spite of their enormous distance from my own time and customs.
The author supplies marginal glosses for new vocabulary and extensive notes explaining the cultural background and possibly obscure allusions. After each section, there is a set of questions to test one's comprehension.
All in all, a delightful next step in my Spanish studies and one I can recommend highly. Reviewed by Louis N. Gruber.
A Perfect Aid To Learning Spanish.......2004-12-26
No matter how much you study Spanish in school or out of textbooks, you will never be able to write well in the language unless you read real Spanish literature. Although the stories in this book are watered down a bit, they're still quite entertaining, and definitely increase the reader's understanding of the Spanish language.
Great book for intermediate students of the Spanish language.......2002-01-11
I love this book.
This is perfect for someone with intermediate-level Spanish knowledge who wants to start reading in Spanish and greatly improve his/her vocabulary.
It has classic short stories and plays that are very entertaining. But the best thing about the book is that it offers definitions of obscure words on the same page (at the bottom, out of the way of the rest of the text), and all less obscure words are included in a dictionary in the back of the book. So, I can sit down and read this book without having to constantly refer to a Spanish dictionary; I can take this book along with me anywhere just like any other book in English.
The only downside is that the stories aren't the originals - they have been heavily edited down, but this means archaic language has been updated to be more modern.
I had fun reading this book, and was impressed with how far I could take my Spanish knowledge.
