A wonderful book.......1999-12-30
It's the first book I've seen that truly captures the spirit of the Canyon. The photography is superb; the text is readable and informative.

I Know What You Did Last Summer.......2006-12-11
I give "I Know What You Did Last Summer" 5 stars because of the good detail, suspense, and story line. Lois Duncan does an exellent job at explaining the difficulties and fears that Julie, Helen, Barry, and Ray faced after some one found out that it was them who hit a kid on a mountian road the summer before. She also does a wounderful job of adding supspense as the teens hurry to find out who knows before they all get hurt.
Richards Reiview.......2006-10-25
To start this off I Would like to say that i do not like to read and the only reason that I am writing this is that my teacher made me do a book report on it for an assignment. The story all starts off in the morning when Julie comes down from her room to eat breakfast and her mother tells her that she has a letter from a collage on the talble. She opens it to find out that she was accepted by the collage and will be going there after the summer is over. When she is done she goes up to her room and her mother tells her that she left a letter on the table. When she went down to get it she found that it was blank and had no return adress on it. When she opened the letter she found that it only contained one sentance in bold writing " I know what you did last summer." Then Julie gets togather with her friends: Ray Bronson, Barry Cox, and Helen Rivers. They tried to think of soomeone who would send Julie a letter like this. Then while Helen was out by the pool in her apartment she met a guy named Collingsworth Wilson (Collie). They talked for awhile and then she went up to her aparatment because she did not want to get burned by the sun. When she got to the door of her room there was a picture on it. It was a picture of a little boy on a bike. Then later the day Ray recived a newspaper clipping in the mail with no return adress like Julie's. Inside the envelope was a newspaper clipping. It was the Death Report on a boy named David Gregg, a 10 year old boy who they had killed last summer in a hit and run accident. David was riding his bike home from a friends house in the middle of the night because they had a fight and his mom would not come pick him up. Then while he was riding they came around a corner in their car and did not see in in front of the car because his bike had no lights or reflectors on it. They then hit him and sped down the road to a roadside booth to call the police to tell them what happened but did not give out thier names. Then why Barry was in his fraternity house he recived a phone call but did not know who it was from. The person on the phone told him to go out to the athletic field. There was a memorial day fireworks display going on and while everyone watched he got shot.
Lois Duncan at her best.......2006-09-06
This book, in my opinion, is suberb. It's not in any way like the movie, besides the name, the note, and the four characters. In the movie, they hit a fisherman, meh, no biggy, he's old enough. But in the book, they hit a little boy, who had so much of his life left, that just makes the crime seem more sinister. In the movie, two of the teenagers die, and how? Basically the same as the rest of the victims in all the series, with a hook. Atleast in the book, even though no one died, they were hurt in different ways, strangled, shot, etc. Plus, the victims in the movie are almost all innocent, but in the book, the only victims are the ones who COMMITED the crime, not people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Don't get me wrong, both were excellent. But as for people who complain there's no pictures, or that there isn't a gory scene... it's a BOOK. If you want a slasher, watch the movie. So, if you want a real page turner, buy this book! Maybe even read it a year after you and your three drunken friends kill a little boy on a bicycle? Happy Reading!
been years since I read this one.......2006-08-19
But I can say this, the book is nothing like the movie -- in fact Kevin Williamson f---ed it all up when he decided to do the screenplay. It is not even close to the events in the book. I will give Ms. Duncan this one and she created a sense of horror for a young adult when she first wrote this book.
I was fourteen years old when I read this book and for me to say a hack screenwriter ruining it does take a lot of gall to say. True a lot of younger movie viewers who weren't even a thought in the head of the parents and at the time I think my mother might even have read this book. Yes it is that old -- written in 1973. I had one with the original cover but it got lost when I moved to Iowa, I read my copy to the point where the pages were falling out of it.
Louis Duncan had created a real impact on me when I was younger to become a horror writer, she created the archtype for it. But it was H.P. Lovecraft and Richard Matheson that set the tone for what I wanted to do with it, she knows the scary whodunit type of books -- I would like to get some more of her work and I'm 30 years old now. Also a published author, but for me to remember this book as it was is telling these kids now how old I am.
Screw the movie, this is much better. Just get the book and enjoy it -- you'll thank me for it.
And you should be ashamed.......2006-08-08
As this thriller opens high school senior Julie discovers that she has been accepted into a prestigious East Coast college, but in the same mail came cryptic message 'I know what you did last summer'. Unfortunately Julie knows all to well what the message refers to. Last summer Julie, her boyfriend and another couple had been in a hit and run accident, an accident that had killed a little boy. The four teens had decided not to come forward and take responsibility for the accident. It was a decision that they had all come to regret but one that they felt they could not change now. But now it seemed that someone else knew their secret.
This novel is geared for the 'young adult' market and speaks to themes that teens would be able to relate to - young love, impulsive acts, class consciousness, parental conflict and peer pressure. The plot is more than a bit transparent, most will guess who the mysterious note writer is fairly early on, the characterizations are equally obvious but the action keeps the novel moving and, particularly for the target audience, is an interesting read.
Customer Reviews:
As an actress in this show..........1999-12-23
I am involved in a production of this play right now, and I have to say that when I read it before I auditioned, i cried, and the same was true in both call backs and the read through. This is a moving piece that proves that two people do not have to be married to be truly in love and live for each other. This play helped me inspect my own life and treat those around me with more thought as to the rest of our lives together. An excellent read, for the layman and the professional...
If done properly....wow!.......1999-07-25
This is the only play that I have seen in my Forensics (speech and debate) career that has brought tears to my eyes. But it has to be done properly or it will bomb.
Don't read if you want to spend time on other pursuits........1999-06-25
In Gurney's introduction to the play, he states that 'Love Letters' was created during an exercise to learn how to type. Once again, as is so prevalent in history, genius is created accidently. This small, simply-constructed, 55 page play is one of the most captivating pieces of literature I have ever read. After seing a production (on television) I sought out a copy and promptly read the entire play at once. Any reader desperately wants to see Andy and Melissa together and Gurney, the author, does a tremendous job of detailing their lives in such a short space. The play also reveals, so succintly, the heartbreak of mental illness and alcoholism. Melissa's ability to paint and create, her greatest gift, is borne from her pain. Gurney's ability to delve into the minds of such complex characters is outstanding. This play is truly a masterpiece of interpersonal relationships and love for all. There is hope in the hopeless. A must read for anyone with a heart and soul.
Friends for Life.......1999-04-14
"Love Letters" is a play consisting of a lifetime of correspondence between a man and a woman. It starts when they are barely old enough to write (2nd grade) and ends when one of them dies. In between, there is a lifetime of love, understanding, misunderstanding, longing, pain, and understatement. I saw the play produced in San Francisco in 1989 with Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows. In 1997, I saw it with the original Long Wharf Theatre cast of John Rubinstein and Joanna Gleason. It was excellent with both casts. Last night (04-12-99), ABC premiered a TV movie version directed by Stanley Donen with Steven Weber and Laura Linney. He got the essence of the play with their reading the letters to each other, and flashbacks to chosen moments in time. It had me crying all over again. I remember seeing it for the first time ten years ago with my male best friend. At the intermission, we both looked at each other and said, "Wow." It could have been our life story.
Love Letters is simple, yet heartbreaking.......1998-12-18
Love Letters has a very simple concept: Two people reading letters they wrote to each other on separate parts of the stage. They never look at each other. But within these letters is so much humor, love, and truth that the play will carry you away with delight. I read this play as I was browsing through a bookstore. I just wanted to read the first couple of pages since I'd heard so much about it. After page three, I didn't want to put it down. Now I'm buying it for a friend. Don't think this play is a sappy collection of gushy girl talk or even romance-novel fodder. If you have ever been in love, you WILL recognize parts of yourself in this. It always stays true to its well-drawn characters, which is what makes the end so heartbreakingly wonderful.

Life Changing.......2007-06-01
This book changed my entire outlook on life. It is one of the most powerful pieces of non-fiction of the modern era.
I did not like it.......2000-06-18
Well this book wasn't very good the other reviews were pretty much right. I wanted to do it for a book report but it was basically just the movie in words. I would not suggest it.
A look into the ditzyness of America.......1999-10-25
This book was basically a publicity stunt for Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy, because I saw no other reason for it. Honestly, who would want to read all the details of "behind the scenes" of a movie when you could sum it all up in a magazine article? I thought the book would have more substance. It basically consists of some drawn-out story of what happened while a movie was being made and what happened in the movie. I'm just glad I borrowed the book and didn't waste my money on it.
this is not such a bad book than u think it is.......1999-04-20
when i was reading this book in the beginning it was really i mean really boring. i was about to fall asleep. but then when julie was on the stage singing and she saw the words i still know what u did last summer totally freaked me out. not really but thats ok. i really liked the parts when julie is about to get killed as u can see i hate jennifer love hewitts guts she is ugly. anyway i always laughed at her stupid remarks. to total it out this book was good if u cant find anything else to read.

Warning-You Might Get Bored.......2002-04-30
...All it is, is a screenplay to the sequal "I Still Know...". It is even written in screenplay form. Some of the events and dialogue change, but it is basically the same.... It is also very boring the way it is. If it were in novel form, like the original "I Know..." book, then it might have been good. The best place to go for more "Hook", go see the movies. ...
This book was awesome.......2002-03-21
Like a script it was written excactly like the movie. If you loved the movie you love the book. If you haven't seen the movie that's okay you can read the book before the movie. I loved it. I thought that it was written with great detail and cleverness.
A GREAT BOOK! ESPECIALLY FOR FANS!.......2002-03-10
I read this book in one day. It was that good. It is written in screenplay form and has been edited for bad language. The violence is all in there though (some more grusome than the movie). The book contains about 8 pages of photos from the movie inside. It is an easy read and any age could read it. I have not seen this book in librarys, but it is on the internet and in stores. It is a great, scary book!
COOL BOOK!.......2000-06-27
I thought this book was really COOL! I could'nt put it down! The Best Book That I Have Read This Year!

Book Description
From the Wailing Wall to the Dome of the Rock to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem is an awe-inspiring place, a city steeped in history and sacred to three religions. But, as Arlynn Nellhaus explains in this one-of-a-kind traveler's guide, it is also a vibrant contemporary metropolis, an urban center with its own rhythms, customs, and special places. Nellhaus, an American who has lived in Jerusalem for more than a decade, offers a treasure trove of up-to-date information on itineraries, accommodations, restaurants, and historical sites.
Customer Reviews:
No heart at all.......2002-08-16
Imagine you've lived in New York for a decade and so you decide you really know the place well enough to write a book - let's call it "Into the Heart of New York".
Now let's imagine that as the author you decide to almost completely ignore the artistic, cultural, gastronomic, political, literary and musical contribution of New York's huge Jewish population.
That should give you an idea of what the Arlynn Nellhaus
book "Into the Heart of Jerusalem" is like.
Nellhaus is a keen far right wing supporter of Israel's illegal settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and openly despises left wing Israelis who feel Israel should give up land for peace with the Palestinians.
That same political contempt permeates this book which rather than delve into the heart of this beautiful, fascinating and divided city, gives a most superficial, polemic and disappointing picture that would leave any outsider ill informed.
A reader might just wonder what contribution the city's quarter of a million Arabs make at all. That's probably what Nellhaus had in mind.
Leave this one in the bargain bin.
Don't Go to Israel Without This Book.......2001-06-01
I carried this book everywhere in Jerusalem years ago. I'm so glad to see that it is still in print. It is an excellent, perhaps the most exceellent, tour of the city I have read.
Into the Heart of Jerusalem.......2000-02-21
This book realy presented to me a new way of looking at jerusalem . It was entirely enjoyable and you will want to have this book if you plan on coming to Israel any time soon.
Indispensable guide in warm and witty style........1999-11-02
Don't leave home without it! Certainly not without this book if your destination includes Jerusalem. Primarily for visitors, INTO THE HEART is THE indispensable possession for anyone moving to that historic city. Nellhaus covers all the usual bases plus ones only a resident would know about and does it all with such wit and humanity, it's hard not to close the cover and call your travel agent immediately.
