A Witch with cats? Get this book!.......2007-10-01
Like all the rest of Ellen Dugan's books, this one is a mix of the practical and the fun, with lots of great information thrown in. If you're interested in Witchcraft or cats or both, this is the book for you. Then check out the rest of her books!
I love it !.......2007-08-16
This book is a perfect one to read, snuggled up with your cat or your familiar. I know that when I pull my copy out to read, my familiar likes to be near me. Coincidence? I think not...
I absolutely adore Dugan's books. Her writing style and personal stories are never boring, and they always add to the magic of the books. Some of the spells inside include: working with cat deities to enhance your life, spells to help you bond with your familiar, protection and negativity-removal spells, and a pet-memorial/passing spell to help ease the heartbreak that we all feel when we lose a pet cat.
If you're a cat lover, or have a cat as your familiar, there is no better book than this to get! Its simply "purrfect."
a delightful exploration of the feline persuasion.......2007-05-05
I am most definitely a cat person, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I found "The Enchanted Cat," by Ellen Dugan to be a delightful exploration of the feline persuasion and a fun book to explore. Geared toward Wiccans, the book details feline fascination, spells and magick.
Starting with the history of cats and their influence on our lives, then examining the cat Deities, are wonderful introductions to feline whiles and ways. Then a look at feline folklore and divination, and a wonderful chapter on cat magick bring readers deeper into the embrace of feline affection and admiration. Guides to feline power animals, and selecting a name for your own familiar, round out the book that is jam packed with spells, incantations, quotations of feline fancy, and so much more.
Ellen Dugan is gifted when it comes to writing in a personally outreaching way. When reading her work, it is like reading a letter from your favorite witchy friend. You won't want it to end. But with this particular title, the delight keeps going as you take your new knowledge and apply it to your life. Of course, you may be inspired to add to your cat family, and at the least, you'll be enticed to cuddle up with the one or two you already have, gaze into their eyes and embrace the magick!
Awesome.......2007-01-13
I love Ellen. I have several of her books. She is a master at simplifying a subject and breaking it down into bite sized pieces. My feline companion enjoyed the information as well.
Fun and entertaining magickal cat book.......2007-01-04
I have other books by Ellen Dugan and this book is of the same good quality as the other books I have. This really is a book about Enchanted Cat with
the feline fascinations, spells and magick. So if your familiar is a cat then this is a good book to have in your collection. But even if your familiar is an owl or toad, this is still a good read on enchanted cats.

Book Description
Who trembles for you when you are sad, hangs his head when you are mad, and drools on you as if you were the most beautiful, brilliant, and tremendously fragrant of them all? A cat? No, a dog. With all due apology to the cats out there, the title of this book could not be more accurate. Dogs are the most loyal of friends, the most indiscriminate of companions, and the only ones who will always adore you even when you're bad. The dogs featured here range from an Irish Wolfhound named Brennain, who opposes war, fleas, and pills, to a pug puppy named Sydney whose only dislike is reading the daily newspaper so she poops on it instead. Author Jeff Selis's tribute to our slobbery, four-legged friends urges us to follow their lead for awhile and stop thinking about traffic jams and cloudy days and alarm clocks, and instead take time to smell the floweres, the trees... the cute terrier down th street. This books of canine portraits will bring a smile even to those feline types who bitterly wish that T-A-C spelled GOD.

Cute, Short, and Sweet. Nothing to brag about. .......2007-01-06
The reason I got this book was because I was drawn in by the Yorky on the cover and the clever title. But I will admit, I was disappointed by the book's content as I was expecting a lot more. This book is very much like the 365 Days of Dogs desktop calendar where they show a fun photo of a dog and show a cute little story about him. Only this book profiles just a few fun loving dogs. Fun photos, cute profiles. Not a whole lot of content.
Amateurish in Writing and Photography.......2006-01-07
I have no idea what all the other reviewers are seeing and reading, but it certainly isn't "Cat Spelled Backwards." These "portraits" of dogs are snapshots that any dog owner could have taken, and what can be considered no more than one or two-line captions aren't even "cute."
"Lucy D gets wiped out playing games with her brother and big sister in the big yard of their big house."
That's neither funny, nor fun, and laughable in only the sense that I spent 11 bucks on this thing that I will now give away next Christmas.
Wonderfully done!.......2005-06-20
I ran across this book by accident, and fell in love with it right in the store. It is now my favorite coffee table book, and I enjoy paging through it regularly. I am purchasing additional books to give as gifts.
This book has beautiful pictures and witty commentary. Some of these stories will both tug at your heartstrings and make you laugh all at the same time.
Possibly The Best.......2003-07-27
As the owner of my own dog walking company, and someone that it putting together a book of this kind on their own, I would like to give Mr. Jeff Selis a hug (and of course a run for his money, ha ha ha). This is a fabulous book. The pictures are great, and the text is just perfect. I laughed out loud and even got teary eyed a couple of times. I typically feel the bigger the better when it comes to photo books but this is the perfect size for what he's done. Of course we always love more more more, but I definitely feel like I got my money worth (which is definitely not always true). I own about every book of this kind there is (dog pics, with some kind of text) and truth be told, some are a real let down, even though there isn't a picture of a dog I don't adore, some have proven to be, maybe just too simple? Others show a lack of decision making skills (no, I like the descriptive words, no no, maybe quotes, no no wait, just throw it all in...) But so far in my collection, Jeff's book, Cat Spelled Backwards Doesn't Spell God, just overtook Shaff/Blount's If Only You Knew How Much I Smell You (also a good one), to sit in first place as my favorite. :)
Dear Jeff,
WELL DONE.
Two paws up - WAY UP- by a cat-owner!!!.......2002-01-04
Having thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Selis' enchanting other book, "Dog Bless America", I was delighted to find this hidden gem. I found the dogs in this book to be every bit as adorable as the ones in his other book (Dog Bless America). I especially like the clever title. It took me a few seconds to do the math, but once I did, I HOWLED for two straight minutes! As a cat-owner(hi, Mittens!) I feel slightly guilty for having this book in my apartment. But in my heart, I believe even a cat would have a hard time not liking this wonderful, magical book!! God bless you, Jeff Selis, for your always-adorable dog pictures!

Customer Reviews:
A cute little gift book.......2007-07-17
This is one of those cute little hardcover gift books you find at the chain stores. When I first got it from Amazon, I wasn't sure what the premise would be--would it be yet another "Here are some cat deities, and how about reading your cat's astrological chart?" book in the vein of Enchanted Cat and Your Magickal Cat. Or would it be something entirely different?
Well, it's definitely a book of spells, and cats are involved. They range from spells to keep cats safe to sabbat celebrations that are centered on the feline who owns you. Creative ideas include a spell to be sure the cat only kills vermin, and one that blesses an herb garden planted especially for an older cat. There's even a touching ritual for marking the passing of a kitty friend. The spells are simple and sweet, nothing too incredibly complicated; this book is meant for a broader audience than just the pagan community.
That also means it's not a particularly theory-heavy book; it's mainly just the spells. This is a light-hearted gift book, not a serious treatise on feline familiars. Still, the material is quite practical to the average witch or pagan who might like to involve hir cat a bit more in hir magical work. There are occasional historical inaccuracies or oddities, and the information is pretty simplified, but no huge glaring errors. My only real problem is that for all the spells that are meant to protect the cat, the author advocates letting cats roam unattended outdoors, where they're more at risk for getting injured or killed by dogs, cars, or pedestrians. Cats can't be contained in the safety of a yard like a dog, and so IMO need to be kept indoors.
Still, it's a cute little book and would make a nice gift for a pagan--or for a pagan-friendly acquaintance (and hir cat(s)) who might get a kick out of it. The whimsical drawings of cats accentuate the text, and it's a very aesthetically pleasing work. It doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is, and for that I like it.

FAB - U - LOUS!!.......2006-03-08
I absolutely adore this little book. I bought it many years back when I could still have cats (at this time I cannot due to lease requirements *pout*) and although I miss my cats greatly, at least I still have this book to keep my memory going. I used it to help name my last two cats and lo and behold, they actually helped to name themselves! The title is a bit deceptive, as there are not a lot of spells in the book - it is more lore, legend and the like, but if you are a cat lover, or owned by cats, you will love this book.
Enchanting..........2002-03-01
This will be the second copy of this book that I have purchased!!I have never attempted any of the spells, but the book itself is just so...cozy.The artwork is beautiful.I don't know how to put it but if the title is interesting to you in the first place you will love it just for what it is.Whimsical and enchanting as well as full of some intereting information.
It's okay, but not for males.......2001-06-14
Well I did enjoy reading this book. But there's one thing I didn't really care for in this book, it kept referring to the person that reads the book as a she instead of (he/she), because there are guys who actually read these books (I being one of them). The naming thing is kinda cute, but the book is very short and half of the book is made up of the names on what to name your cat. This book is nothing special I suggest you look for another book to buy.
pretty good.......2000-08-19
this is a good book for the begginner magician, i could swear that it works, and the spells are not harmful. All in all it is an interesting book with much research put into it
Real Cat Magic.......2000-08-16
If you're interested in working spells with cats, this is the book for you. The most the spells require is a whisker from your cat (You won't be hurting him/her.) The book covers brief history on cats from ancient to now. Fun to read and allows you to spend more time with your cat!

But his children, a warrior, a warlock and a witch, fled the witches' rule, answering an ineffable call to the forgotten land of Escore. There, they warred with the evil stirred to life by their coming....a peril that continues unabated.....

The Wild Trees: A Story of Passion and Daring
ASIN: 0528815431 |
Customer Reviews:
An excellent book on a wonderful work of nature.......2002-07-15
There are three types of redwoods; the sequoia, the coast redwood of California, and the smaller dawn redwood of China. Like cycads and some other rare or endangered trees, redwoods are a relic of the Age of Dinosaurs, when they proliferated around the globe. Now they are confined to relatively small sections of the world. They are still capable of reducing all but the most cynical into a quick, silent state of awe.
In a well-organized book, capably and eloquently written, author Hewes brings the biology, history, and ecology of all three varieties home to the reader in a seamless, continually interesting fashion. The admirable text is accompanied by excellent historic and modern photos, some of which are heartbreaking. Examples include clear-cut areas of redwood forest and the senseless cutting and dismemberment of the most perfect sequoia, the Mark Twain tree.
The author manages to present all facets of the conservation controversy without taking sides, preferring to let the facts speak for themselves, a rare accomplishment in this Age of Advocacy. Hewes is to be commended for this even-handed approach.
No one visiting Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, or Redwood National Parks should go without first reading this book. It will answer nearly all FAQ's about these fascinating plants from the Mesozoic, and will truly enhance any such trip. I recommend it very highly.
The most informative book about redwood trees I have read!.......1998-06-30
For afficionados of California's redwood trees, this book is a must-read. It answers all the questions tree-lovers think about when they see these trees in national or state parks. The book begins with the fascinating natural history of redwoods and unfolds to include botanical notes on all three redwood species, as well as the relationships between redwoods and people, from native Americans, to loggers, and finally to the national and state parks which now protect them.
Hewes presents her comprehensive and well-documented text in readable form, supported by excellent photographs. REDWOODS... extols the grandeur of California's giants while dealing fairly with the logging industry, revealing both its faults and strengths. This book is an excellent companion book for any traveler who sets out to experience America's greatest botanical wonders, or for anyone who just loves trees.
