It was a great book. The popups are cool. The color pink was great! The ending was fantastic!

2 out of 5 stars not what i expected.......2007-08-24

i actually returned the book. When I received it both i and my husband looked at it and said the same thing that the script writing throughout the book was hard to read. This was a let down especially after reading wizardology, egyptology and dragonology. I would only recommend it for adults who collect books on fairies.

5 out of 5 stars A must for fairy lovers!!.......2007-08-01

My daughter has been wanting this for a while now and I finally was able to get it for her and she absolutely loves it. She is 13 and draws fairies all the time and loves the story and information in this book.

The book is beautiful. I purchased this for my 7 year old grand-daughter. She is an excellent reader but has not mastered reading in script. That was the only problem we had. I'm sure she will enjoy the book more as she gets older.

Book Description

From the day it was released in 2000, Keeping a Nature Journal has struck a profound chord among professional, casual, and occasional naturalists of all ages. In response to this groundswell of enthusiasm, we have revised KEEPING A NATURE JOURNAL, updated the interior design, and created a new cover. Undoubtedly the most exciting new element in this second edition is a portfolio of 32 illustrated pages from Clare Walker Leslie's most recent journals, reproduced in full color.

What makes KEEPING A NATURE JOURNAL so popular? It is inspiring and easy to use. Clare and co-author Charles Chuck E. Roth offer simple techniques to give first-time journal-keepers the confidence to go outside, observe the natural world, and sketch and write about what they see. At the same time, they motivate long-time journal-keepers to hone their powers of observation as they immerse themselves in the mysteries of the natural world. Clare and Chuck stress that the journal is a personal record of daily experience and the world around us. Nature's beauty can be observed everywhere, whether in the city, suburbs, or country.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to nature journaling.......2007-06-14

I bought this book unseen hoping to get some good ideas for a curriculum development project for elementary school kids I'm working on. I wasn't disappointed. This is a beautiful book. It's well written by 2 authors who are obviously passionate about the subject matter. Reproductions of Leslie's journal pages throughout the book also help you see the sorts of things that are possible and are a real inspiration. Her images are often quickly drawn and a little on the rough side, suggesting that anyone with a few minutes, a few colored pencils, a blank book, and a love for nature is capable of making a gorgeous nature journal. The book covers ideas for how to start a nature journal, the kinds of equipment you need, things you might want to keep an eye out for, and suggestions for improving your artistic skills. As I'd hoped, there is also a section for eductators who wish to use nature journals to teach people, young and old, about nature and the environment in which they live.

This book contains a lot of great information and the images from Leslie's journals are amazing. I think anyone who is into nature journals (as I am) would appreciate this book, as well as those who wish to start one.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Useable Book.......2006-08-11

I love this book- the art is absolutely beautiful and the general layout really shows it off. It talks about how to begin nature journaling, giving tips on both starting the habit and learning to draw! I love the approach it takes, fostering a closeness and syncronicity with nature and its cycles!

5 out of 5 stars Love This Beautiful Book!!!.......2006-04-29

Our family loves this book - we love the examples from actual nature journals and it has really inspired myself and my children to keep our own nature journals. As we do so, we come to have a better appreciation for the amazing creations all around us. The author really helps to encourage even budding artists to keep nature journals, which helps some of the more timid artists in our family.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful teaching tool........2004-02-03

I coordinate outdoor workshops for women to provide them the opportunity to learn new skills. We hosted a new class,Nature Journaling, and the instructor needed a book to suplement her curriculum. I selected this book based on the Amazon recomendations and further research. Both the instructor and participants loved the book. It was very helpful and useful once they left the workshop.
I think this book is a great resource in any EE/nature/writing library.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, inspiring book!.......2002-11-14

This book inspired me to start my own nature journal and gave me the confidence to draw in it! Wonderful, encouraging and instructional. If I can draw nature, then anyone can!

It's almost the end of Miranda's sophomore year in high school, and her journal reflects the busy life of a typical teenager: conversations with friends, fights with mom, and fervent hopes for a driver's license. When Miranda first begins hearing the reports of a meteor on a collision course with the moon, it hardly seems worth a mention in her diary. But after the meteor hits, pushing the moon off its axis and causing worldwide earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes, all the things Miranda used to take for granted begin to disappear. Food and gas shortages, along with extreme weather changes, come to her small Pennsylvania town; and Miranda's voice is by turns petulant, angry, and finally resigned, as her family is forced to make tough choices while they consider their increasingly limited options. Yet even as suspicious neighbors stockpile food in anticipation of a looming winter without heat or electricity, Miranda knows that that her future is still hers to decide even if life as she knew it is over.

Veteran author Susan Beth Pfeffer, who penned the young adult classic The Year Without Michael over twenty years ago, makes a stunning comeback with this haunting book that documents one adolescent's journey from self-absorbed child to selfless young woman. Teen readers won't soon forget this intimate story of survival and its subtle message about the treasuring the things that matter most—-family, friendship, and hope.--Jennifer Hubert

Book Description

Miranda’s disbelief turns to fear in a split second when a meteor knocks the moon closer to the earth. How should her family prepare for the future when worldwide tsunamis wipe out the coasts, earthquakes rock the continents, and volcanic ash blocks out the sun? As summer turns to Arctic winter, Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother retreat to the unexpected safe haven of their sunroom, where they subsist on stockpiled food and limited water in the warmth of a wood-burning stove.
Told in journal entries, this is the heart-pounding story of Miranda’s struggle to hold on to the most important resource of all--hope--in an increasingly desperate and unfamiliar world.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars The wrong message.......2007-09-27

What should you do if a sudden natural disaster - an asteroid hitting the moon - causes tsunamis to drown both coasts, destroying our electrical and communications grid, and provoking new volcanic eruptions that obscure the sun? Should you band together with others to distribute available food and fuel to the needy and find alternative ways to grow food? Not in this book, at least. Here the heroine mom thinks to clean out the food stores before anyone else realizes the extent of the disaster. She retreats to her home with her wood stove and denies food from her well-stocked pantry to anyone other than her immediate family. While she thinks the country's president, who has been evacuated from the flooded Washington D.C. to his "Texas ranch" (wink, wink), is an "evil jerk," she hunkers down in her home waiting to be bailed out by the government that he heads; failing that, she will starve, or die of disease. If this happens to you, make sure to be entirely selfish while you're waiting for government handouts (while simultaneously despising the hand that feeds you). What sort of message is this for teens, or anyone else?

5 out of 5 stars Read this book.......2007-08-25

I am an adult who sometimes reads good young adult fiction. But only when it is outstanding do I reread the same book. I have read this book twice even though I only have had it since June.

Parts of this reminded me of Anne Frank's diary. The last section reminded me of what Anne would have written had she been able to keep writing in her diary until later on. But the ending of "Life as We Knew It" is a more hopeful one.

It is the story of an ordinary family and how they showed extraordinary courage.

It is a story about growing from self centeredness to maturity, from girl to young woman, and a story of becoming strong and how being compassionate is a way of being strong: perhaps the best way.

The story had a reality to it: I could almost believe that it was truly happening.

Then I thought about how there may be families in various parts of the world who are struggling for survival: due to war, or drought, or disasters, and realized: that it IS happening. And that we need to show kindness and reach out to each other.

And like other readers, yes I went to the supermarket and stocked up on canned food. (:

I look forward to the sequel, "The Dead & the Gone", and hope that it continues the story beyond the time frame of "Life as We Knew It" because there are some questions:
Was the flow of food temporary, and are people still going to starve?
Will normal life really return in May, as the President promised?
If the volcanoes were continuing, how can there be any hope for life on earth: won't people still not be able to grow food, or are they using the Texas oil reserves to grow food in greenhouses? Are there areas, such as near the equator, but inland, where the normal climate is hot enough that agriculture can continue? I hope though that this sequel will have different things to say than "Life as we Knew It", or else there will be no point in HAVING a sequel: there are so many series, such as "The Shadow Children" series by Haddix, where the first book was great, yet then she stretched it out to more and more books that did not have the same power or freshness.

In "Life as We Knew It", the author has built a world that I CARED about and wanted to hear more about.

If you are interested in what if books about the future, or even just in books about courage and survival, read this.

5 out of 5 stars Life As We Knew It.......2007-08-15

I am so glad that I read this book. It was a real eye opener, about what life could really be like. It makes me realize how many things I have... the option to go to school, to walk down to the store and buy a Snickers bar, and even being able to leave my house and get some fresh air. Not to mention the internet and TV and the radio... all good things that I can't really imagine living without. But this book lets me see what a sad life it would be without these simple luxuries.

I cried almost nonstop towards the end- although some of it might have been PMS. Still, this book was fantastic. I probably wouldn't read it again, but it was definitely something I'd recommend to others.

4 out of 5 stars Well...........2007-08-14

What do you say about reading possibly one of the most depressing books of all time? I was very intrigued to read this, but at so many points it was very hard to turn the pages. Of course, I was amazed at what Miranda and her family proved themselves to be capable of, following what could have possibly been "the end" -- of everything. There is a point in the story where Miranda (bear in mind she is like 16) is completely on her own, forced to do everything in her power -- including forgoing sleep and food -- to keep her family alive through the night (and for several days afterward). As you read, you begin to rejoice in the small miracles that occur, such as their very heartwarming Christmas celebration, a long awaited phone call or letter, the treat of eating a "real" dinner, or the return of their beloved cat, Horton. I think that it is very true that people surprise themselves with how they find ways to adapt and triumph over adversity -- and in this case, worldwide catastrophe.

5 out of 5 stars Great look at that thoughts of a young person in criss.......2007-08-08

Life As We Knew It I believe was intended to be a book for young readers. However, the point of view of a girl keeping a diary to record her thoughts, hopes and fears has great meaning for all of us. This book I think should be required reading for students and adults alike. The way the author keeps you hooked by keeping the reader guessing on what will happen next is very rewarding. Instead of keeping the reader updated with what is going on in the rest of the world like in most disaster (end of the world) books the author keeps you focused emotional on one family and their stuggle to stay alive.
The ending is open but gives us hope that everything might just turn out ok.

I'm back from Costa Rica and I can say this booklet is a good resumé of what you can see in that wonderful country. On 152 differents species shown on the booklet we saw 16 of them. I will bring it with me on my next trip in hope to see more.

3 out of 5 stars Expected more.......2007-05-13

This handy pocket guide has the most frequently seen species, but I expected a bit more. Handy, but not what I expected.

5 out of 5 stars Glad I had it!.......2007-03-29

I wasn't holding out much hope for value on this little "brochure" of wildlife but it turned out to be very nice to have. We just returned from a trip to Panama and Costa Rica and the guides - experienced naturalists with National Geographic and also from the parks and the Smithsonian - used it along with others. They are available for different regions and types of wildlife and I purchased two more when I was down there. Easy to carry on a hike, easy to refer to and great for the kids. They are certainly very basic but we were in isolated areas and some of us only got glimpses of an anteater or agouti so as the naturalists were talking about it, we could look at the guide and try to spot it again. Then if I only saw the tail, I knew what it looked like! Hiking up 300-500 ft. on muddy uneven trails with a camera in one hand, binoculars around my neck and a small backpack with water and such, it was hard to pull out a book for reference so if your trip is going to be at all like that, I recommend them.

2 out of 5 stars Pocket Guide Intro.......2006-03-16

This booklet was offered as a bundle with another book I purchased. The booklet itself is well done, but not very extensive re: the wildlife of Costa Rica. It seemed to be a bit pricey to me, even at a discounted rate, for what I received.

4 out of 5 stars Nice laminated quick guide to common animals/birds.......2005-09-29

These are great for families, casual wildlife fans. For die-hard bird fans, you'll need the BIG Birds of Costa Rica book.

5 out of 5 stars Eyes and hearts open wide to God's creation!.......2007-08-03

We've only had this journal for a couple of weeks but it is already an essential part of our day. My 7-year old daughter truly cherishes this journal and loves to share it with others. She even sleeps with it tucked under her arm. When a question comes up about ocean life, spiders, moths or wildflowers, she shouts, "I know! I'll look in my journal." If the answer is not found there, you can be sure she will add it once she finds it in a field guide, encyclopedia or from one of her nature buddies at the Dept. of Natural Resources. I was afraid that this journal would be stiffling but it is perfect for my youngest daughter. Her older siblings use blank journals for their entries, as do I, but this is just perfect for the younger set and it is lovely to flip through.

5 out of 5 stars Super!.......2007-06-28

We purchased this book for considerably more while visiting the Great Okefenokee Swamp. My 7 yr. old daughter has filled the pages in the months since. It is very informative and a good introduction to nature journaling.

We found the book about a month before embarking on a two-week journey from south-eastern Georgia to the Kitsap Peninsula of Washington. Along the way we visited many of the ecosystems noted in the book and my daughter was able to experience them in a much more robust way thanks in part to this book.

I highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars Fun, factual, and highly recommended for ages 8 to 14........2000-04-07

My Nature Journal with its fill-in worksheets may not be appropriate for library lending, but parents should consider this for kids with an affection for natural history: kids ages 8-14 will find it packed with suggestions for nature activities which encourage observation and note-taking skills. From exploring insects and butterflies to creating poetry and observing the sunset, this pairs facts and easy observational instructions with fun pages of fill-in guided activities in the outdoors. Colorful and encouraging with a very bright cover inviting participation.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for kids, parents and teachers!.......1999-12-13

My Nature Journal is enthralling in its simple but complete approach to enjoying and learning about nature. For children of all ages either at home or at school, the book includes great nature activities for adults and children to do together. And My Nature Journal effortlessly combines reading, art, writing and science throughout the nature explorations. The book provides colorful but detailed illustrations of the five natural worlds: woodlands, meadows, ponds and streams,

seashore, and twilight. Highly recommended for parents, educators, homeschoolers and kids' clubs as a simple and enjoyable way to approach nature. From The Science Spiders Newsletter, January 2000.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Big Kids too!.......1999-12-12

This is a wonderful journaling tool for children and families alike. As a homeschooler of an 10 year-old, I found this an excellent adjunct for field trips. There are over 40 activities that will have you exploring the woods, the meadows, wetlands, and things that go (?) in the night! The drawings are delightful! Rediscover the beauty of nature in a fun and informative format. From field notes to leaf rubbings, your budding naturalists will be eager to try the simple yet educational exercises. Book Description

A sensational bestseller in England, here is the revealing diary of a young woman honest enough to put all of her sexual thoughts and erotic emotions in print.

Who says men think about sex more than women do? Abby Lee is a smart, determined young woman who for almost three years has been writing an online journal about her sex life. Her writing is everything that writing about sex should be—frank, hysterical, provocative, and completely honest. Her website quickly attracted thousands of hits a day , with both men and women drawn to her observations about masturbation, one-night stands, and same-sex encounters. Girl with a One Track Mind is a year-long diary of Abby’s desires, fantasies, and anxieties as she tries to answer the question: why do I always think about sex? Celebrating both her sensuality and her physical needs, Abby explores a swingers’ club and a Dominatrix dungeon, and even participates in a pre-arranged three-way (which ends without any satisfaction for her). In between her new experiences are run-ins with lifelong friends; potential romances; and long, frustrating nights when all she really wants is a “great shag.” Whether she’s offering a girl’s guide to understanding date-speak or explaining to her parents why there’s a racy picture of her on their computer, Abby writes with a ribald eye and a fearless heart.

This book is a completely uninhibited one year diary about a single lady's obsession with sex, experiments (bisexual, threesomes, s&m, you name it and it is there...) and her attempt to get into a serious relationship. It is very British in its language but the British slang makes it really warm. There are lots of (helpful?) sexual and relational tips for both men and women. And the eroticism hits you pleasantly. Definitely worth a read.

This erotic memoir is one of the most fun and real I've ever read. Abby is sexy and smart and adventurous and willing to share openly and honestly with the reader--because this book began as a blog and because she wrote it under an assumed name. If you want to know what a modern woman is really thinking--about sex and relationships and more sex, this is a great book.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting book about a single woman's sex life........2007-03-13

I guess I will give this book 5 stars, not because it is a literary classic, but because it is probably the best book of its kind--a sex blog edited into book form.

Abby Lee, subsequently "outed" as a London film technician Zoe Margolis, is a single woman in her thirties who spends a lot of time masturbating, having casual sex, and thinking about sex. She is very orgasmic and wonders if she is a nymphomaniac.

Although the book is well written, witty, and contains lots of ruminations and information about sex, Abby/Zoe comes across as somewhat charmless and self absorbed, but we should probably discount this as, by definition, such qualities are surely innate to sex blog creators.

Her online blog has been tremendously successful, and judging by the responses written by readers, appeals very much to the woman who leads an outwardly respectable life, but enjoys reading about another outwardly respectable woman who lives out her sexual fantasies, both for her own pleaure, and that of her readers while still remaining solidly middle class and easy to identify with. While sex blogs by prostitutes and/or escorts are two a penny, she is careful to distance herself from this field and expresses revulsion at the idea of selling sex.

The author, like Bridget Jones, likes to compile lists of pros and cons, for example the pros and cons of large penises vs. smaller penises, which make interesting reading and are almost worth the price of admission on their own. I won't state her conclusions here in case I spoil it for you.

The book is not particularly titillating, so readers looking for [...] fodder probably won't find much here.

Although the author has a great sex life--at least it is great in terms that most men and some women would appreciate, in that she has many partners and lots of orgasms--there is a certain melancholic tone too. She is lonely and wants a real relationship, but while she can find sexual satisfaction with almost anyone, like Grace Slick in the heyday of Jefferson Airplane, she needs somebody to love, and that is what she does not have.

You can speculate, if you wish, as to whether her supercharged sex drive is just evolution's way of telling her to start a family, but perhaps that is just going too far. She also seems to drink a lot, and while drinking is very much part of the London metrosexual culture, where it pretty much assumed that getting wasted is a good type of foreplay, I suspect that her appetites for both alcohol and sex are a standard deviation or two towards the higher end of the curve, though how they correlate is not made exactly clear in the book.

Anyhow, the book is a minor classic, and if you are interested in sex--which a lot of people are--and you are not easily shocked, you will want to read this so that you will know what all the fuss is about, and have lots of ready-made conversation topics at your fingertips.

BECUASE OF A "METAL" PIECE THAT CONSTRUCTS THIS BEAUTIFUL CALENDAR, THE PRISON WHERE MY SON IS, REFUSED TO LET HIM HAVE IT. I AM HOPING THAT A SUGGESTION CAN BE MADE TO THE COMPANY THAT DISTRIBUTES THESE. THE AM0UNT OF PEOPLE SHOPPING FOR LOVE ONES IN BOND IS HUGE. I AM HOPING THAT THEY WILL PUT A CALENDAR TOGETHER WITHOUT THE STEEL BAR. THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO DO THIS. I ALSO WISH TO MENTION THAT HOSPITALS FOR ALCOHOL OR DRUG REHAB AND ALL PSYCHIATRIC FACILITES HAVE THE SAME REQUIREMENTS AS THE PRISON SYSTEM. THIS COMPANY IS ELIMINATING A HUGE AMOUNT CUSTOMERS. I HOPE THIS SUGGESTION WILL BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. I HAVE BEEN A NURSE FOR 36 YRS. AND WORKED PSYCH UNITS MOST OF THAT TIME. THANKS..............

I'd look at the Sierra Club calendar instead. The Sierra Club calendar is in a nicer format (pages are longer and hangs better on your wall), and the pictures are consistently beautiful or awe-inspiring.

    Book Description

Renowned nature photographer Jim Brandenburg gave himself a challenge: for ninety days between the autumnal equinox and the winter solstice, he would make only one photograph a day. As his shutter opened and closed on that first day, his 90-day journey began. This exquisite book is the result of that bold and immensely personal project.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2007-08-31

If you haven't seen the DVD (Public TV?) program of this project, you should-great insights into what Brandenburg was after as a photographer-the great and the struggles. WOnderful book and photos!

    3 out of 5 stars A Nice Conceit.......2004-11-29

It's a nice conceit. A great outdoor photographer sets for himself the task to taking one, but only one, photograph each and every day for an entire season.

One can see all kinds of implications. Once the photographer finds a subject he must get it right the first time because he isn't allowed a second chance. Exposure, focus, composition - everything must be right and as good as he can get it. Moreover he is continually in peril. Should he pass by a good shot in the morning in expectation of a better shot in the afternoon? And what happens when no better shot is in the camera as sunset approaches? We can easily believe Jim Brandenburg when he says that the exercise was a transforming experience.

But the question for viewers of this book is whether the pictures are a transforming experience for us. Unfortunately, they were not for me.

I understand that some of the pictures were bound to be underexposed or out of focus. Plants blow in the wind; animals move. But while I examined the photographs in this book, I also looked at other work by Brandenburg. These other collections were always quite impressive, providing new ways of looking at the world. Many of the pictures in "Chased by the Light" showed a keen sensibility for the light. The silhouettes of loons and a small island with trees against the backlight of a clouded dawn were breathtaking. The photograph of a raven's feather against a lichen background with a few beaded drops of water on the feather caught my eye.

But for every great photograph, there was one that was pedestrian and one that was discardable. I certainly didn't need to see an out-of-focus mink or trees in the forest with no true subject.

To be fair to Brandenburg, this project was apparently not undertaken for publication but rather as an exercise for his own development. It was his editor who wanted to publish after seeing the photographs. To the editor's eye, at least, the pictures were enlightening and well worth the effort.

The greatest value of this book was not in the photographs but in the speculation in which I engaged about why this book was not outstanding. Is photography a stochastic process with each photograph taken possibly leading to an even greater photograph? Did forcing himself to elect when to take his daily picture cause Brandenburg to sacrifice opportunities, or even limit his willingness to take risks. Does the order of presentation of photographs have synergistic effects, which were lost, because this book almost demanded only chronological order? Does forcing the viewer to look at pictures that would otherwise be discards detract from the impact of good pictures?

For me this book was conceptual art. I found the idea of the task transformed my view of photography. The pictures themselves did not.

5 out of 5 stars Challenge Achieved with Grace.......2004-05-17

I gave this book to my parents several years ago and still leaf slowly through its pages whenever visiting their home in northern Minnesota. For amateurs and professionals alike, his is a fascinating photographic concept: your own property? a favorite park? your family? or pet? a holiday?

5 out of 5 stars I normally hesitate to use this word, but...profound........2002-07-09

I'm a verbal type; I'd rather read a beautifully written description of a frozen lake than stare at a picture of it anytime. Even knowing that, my mother gave me this book several years ago, and I fell in love. I sat with it for hours, seeing, dreaming, and I still take it down often to do the same again. The photographer, Jim Brandenburg, set himself the challenge of taking only one photograph each day for three months, in the boreal forest where he makes his home. The result is a portrait of life as many of us can never experience it: not just "calendar shots," but pictures that show the cruelty of man, the certainty of death, the very simple beauty of a single bright leaf burning on the dark, still waters of an evening pond. Some photos are amazing in themselves and some seem ordinary in the extreme, but it is important to take them as a whole, and see what you learn from the journey.

5 out of 5 stars Old fashioned and wonderful.......2002-05-30

It's so more agreable to have this engagement calendar on your desk than a modern and dull looking electronic device. Use an old fountain pen to take your notes, and wait till the ink is dry before turning the page! Wonderful pictures under your eyes every day of the year! You can escape and image yourself so far from the busy and noisy modern world. I'm waiting for the 2003 edition.

Several "war stories", all true, provide additional drama and a little humor to this firsthand account of this WWII combat pilot. Witness the remarkable photographs from the authors personal collection that tell and show the story of near misses from flak and the dramatic dropping of 500 pound bombs on German targets during heavy German counter attacks with flak and fighter bombers.

5 out of 5 stars An Eighth Air Force Combat Diary.......2001-11-20

This book is written by a Co-pilot of the 418th Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group based at Thorpe Abbotts, England.

It is his diary of 32 combat missions during the European Theatre of Operations September 1944 to March 1945.

I found this excellently detailed as it was written at the time.
It describes his training as a pilot in the US, the Trans-Atlantic flight in a B-17 from Lincoln, Nebraska to Valley, Wales and flying combat missions over Germany.

Each mission description starts with a copy of his briefing notes which detail engine start, taxi and take off times, target name, altitude formation and callsigns for fighter escorts! Also a newspaper clipping from that day the mission was flown.

Copies of John Clark's combat flight log are included towards the end of the book.

This book is full of photographs never before published; taken of the formations of B-17s streching endlessly across the sky with streaming contrails, the flak clouds over the target, on base scenes of nissen huts in the fog, frost on the trees, aircraft sitting on their hardstands in the early morning mist, and photographs of the crews.

When reading this book, you can visualize everything that is happening, emotions are described and felt when and engine is out, when enemy fighters pass through the formation, when flak burst nearby, or finding that there may not be enough fuel to make it home!

After the war in 1962, 1966, and 1987 he returns to the base he once flew from to find it deteriating even more with each visit.

The only remnants in his last visit is the control tower that has now been restored as a museum and a memorial to those who served with the 100th Bomb Group.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in reading personal accounts of World War II.
