Is an read easy and understandable read. Explains all topics very thoroughly yet in a clear concise manner especially for a biology text book.

Very good book.......2007-09-24

It's kind of hard to judge a textbook, especially when you're a student. But i can honestly say that this book is very straight forward. The diagrams are great, and especially if you read the diagrams as you're reading the book, they add a lot of depth and diversity to the reading. The text itself is not mundane...you won't fall asleep reading it. The CD it comes with is nice....but i tend not to use it that much...all it is, is just video clips. Overall i'd say this is one of the best, if not THE best, biology book i've used.

HOWEVER! Remember that this IS a bio book and it DOES get a little tedious at points

Great book. Although not a basic book, this text make many aspects of cell biology very clear. I would highly recommend it.

Essential Cell Biology 2nd Ed........2006-11-06

This is probably one of the best cell biology books out there. It's easy to understand, covers all the basics, and the CD included with it has really helpful videos.

The book is decent. To be honest though, reviewing textbooks is kind of funny. Does it matter what I say? I suppose if you're ordering this book because you honestly just have a burning desire to learn about essential cell biology, well... the more power to you. You'll learn it just fine from this book. If you're just buying the book because it's the required text for your college class (like I expect), well yeah, doesn't really matter what I say, does it?

Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth. During the green revolution nitrogenfertilisation was responsible for spectacular yield increases. At present yield is balanced with commitments towards the environment and sustainable agriculture. For agro-biotechnology comprehensive knowledge of plant functioning is needed. Yield improvement and accumulation of essential nitrogen compounds is relying on selection and gene technologies.

Research on the uptake, acquisition and assimilation of nitrogen, as well as the synthesis and storage of reserve and defence N-compounds, therefore, is essential. Fat Tuesday is the fourth Thomas Black novel by Earl Emerson. When Black and his friend, lawyer Kathy Birchfield go to meet with Fred Pugsley, they find him dead in a pool of blood. His wife, Maggie is found holding the murder weapon, a bicycle sprocket remover. The police think Maggie killed him because of Fred's numerous affairs. Another prime suspect is Eric Castle, a cycler and former co-worker of Pugsley at Micro Darlings, a manufacturer of computer games. There are other suspects who may have killed him because Fred may have slept with their wives or girlfriends. Black's life is also in danger from a motorcycle "mama", a 3000-lb. bull named Aunt Mabel, and a crazy man. This is the most complex Black novel to date, and is an excellent read.

Fat Tuesday was my introduction to Earl Emerson and I intend to read all of his books. Fat Tuesday was funny, refreshing, and I found it to be a great page turner. Wonderful characters. The plot I didn't figure out. I enjoyed this book very much.

Can't put it down.......1999-07-07

A very fast paced, cleverly written suspense novel. The protagonist is one you will find interesting and will want to garnish your trust. You will read this book in less than a week. Kudos.

I picked this book up on the recommendation of a friend (being a fan of all those classic girl books - Are you there god?, etc.), and I am so glad I did! Jayne's story is one of tragedy, rebirth, and triumph over adversity that sends a strong positive message to all girls who go through a tragedy in their teen years (and really, who hasn't had at least one tragedy in their teen years???). Whether you're 13 or 30, you can relate to the issues that confront Jayne as she struggles to overcome a horrific accident. Not to mention an overbearing mom, and a little sister who seems determined to destroy herself. Susan Colebank is a truly gifted writer, who clearly still remembers the trials and tribulations of the teen years. This is her first book, and I certainly hope it's not her last!

Jayne Thompkins lives a charmed life. She gets straight A's, will probably be chosen captain of her tennis team, and plans to go to Harvard. She has a rather annoying younger sister, but her mother is somewhat of a local TV celebrity and her father is supportive and sensitive. Life couldn't get much better, unless maybe, Jayne could squeeze in a little time for a boyfriend.

One Tuesday afternoon, one cell phone call, and one red light change everything for Jayne Thompkins. Rushing to tennis practice and as usual annoyed by a call from her sister, Ellie, Jayne runs a red light and smashes into a car. A little girl riding in the front seat without a seatbelt has her neck broken. After being pronounced brain dead, the little girl is eventually removed from life support, and Jayne must live with what she's done.

Her license is suspended until age 18, she must fulfill a community service requirement, and she is required to report to a probation officer and attend counseling sessions. Jayne's life is no longer about good grades and future plans. Why not test the limits and spread her wings? Nothing really matters anymore, or at least that's the way things seem. Jayne chooses a new direction. Being more like her rebellious younger sister seems more attractive when she thinks she has nothing more to lose.

Jayne finds out that facing friends and fellow classmates is not easy. People she once counted on are no longer there for her. Pressure from her mother causes her to behave in ways she never would have dreamed possible. And to complicate matters, her community service hours put her in contact with someone who takes advantage of her lack of experience in romantic relationships.

Susan Colebank gives readers a glimpse into the world of a teen whose life is coming apart at the seams. Teens feeling that their lives are out of control will identify with Jayne's story. Seeing what it's like to hit bottom and then struggle to return to a former life makes this a definite must read.
