pretty good book - a small mixed up in the rule of baccarat.......2007-05-15
I wonder why on page 170, the baccarat rules states that, for example, when the banker's total is 6, then the banker will draw if the player's new total is 6 or 7. The correct version is: the banker will draw when the "player's third card" is 6 or 7, not the "new total". On page 171 though, the table lists it as "player's third card". Incidentally, I found a bug in the Hoyle's Casino 2007 for PC game, with it drawing a card for the banker when it shouldn't... oh well... isn't the rule somewhat important? It is a very basic set of rule... I wonder if we have that sometimes in the casino and nobody noticed.
Otherwise, the book provides basic rules, strategies, and some interesting stories about the various games. It is a pretty good book for beginners, but make sure you pick another one up just to cross reference. Idiot's Guide and the Unofficial Guide also have a good book on casino gambling.
One thing I am sensitive about the book is that it stresses on etiquette quite a lot. Thing like, "don't hand your money directly to the dealer; doing so is a breach of etiquette and brands you as a greenhorn. After you receive your chips, leave them on the table in front of you". Oh well, a "breach"? so serious? I don't know, I just feel that nowadays, we tend to have too much politeness and etiquette and too little true kindness among human beings, so I don't like to read about etiquette for this and etiquette for that.
Down to Earth Tips on casinos.......2007-04-02
I was mainly interested in slots, video poker, & blackjack. Presented good info in an uncomplicated style. Also full of info for practically any other game that may be your particular choice(s). I recommend it VERY highly for beginners or the more experienced player!!!!!
Kevin Blackwood is an Expert.......2007-03-07
Kevin Blackwood is an expert blackjack player who has played all over the world; he is an expert poker player as well. His knowledge of the casino games is profound and this book gives you everything you need to know to go to the casinos and play properly. Ignore the title because you are not a dummy if you buy this book.
You are smart!

Great For All Gamblers.......2006-07-25
Any new book on casino gambling has to contend with a shelf full (virtual or real) of other titles covering the same material, but in Casino Gambling for Dummies, Kevin Blackwood has done a masterful job of bringing a fresh attitude and informative approach that provides solid justification for another title on the topic. This is the 'For Dummies' brand at its best, tackling all the favorites, blackjack, craps, sports betting, as well as many meta-topics (like dealing with the IRS after a profitable run at the tables) with fact-infused, easy-to-read prose that will entertain and inform. People just entering the neon world for the first time will get as much instructional material as they can handle, from rules of the game to strategy. Seasoned gamblers will reap the benefits of Blackwood's expertise and experience at the felt-covered tables around the world. There is particular depth in the blackjack section, likely a product of Blackwood's long resume as one of the top players in the world. The organization is inspired and the writing is top notch, particularly the chapter on horse racing.

Gerri's Review.......2006-03-24
It is easy to understand the analysis of numbers and position of numbers frequencies as reference for determining lotto numbers. I feel the combinations and wheeling systems are too complicated for beginning lotto players like myself.
Interesting but incomplete.......2006-03-20
This is an interesting book, and seems to make sense but doesn't really tell how to adapt the "wheeling" technique for five-wheel lottos. Acceptable value for the price.
TRUTH ABOUT WINNING : It's a Q-U-E-S-T........2003-12-18
I did find some facets of the book very interesting such as conducting frequency analysis on numbers to see which ones show up most often and which numbers are overdue. The book does contradict itself, though, when it tells the reader not to indulge in Powerball because of the odds, yet the book dedicates several pages to playing Powerball. There are several examples of wheels in book that are interesting -- but in my own game playing style, I've made some modifications to these wheels to reduce redundancy. My advice to those that enjoy playing the lotto/lottery is: DEVELOP YOUR OWN PLAYING STYLE -- and work on developing your intuition, especially if you are a receptive to the concept. My gut feeling told me that the next round was going to draw low numbers and numbers that have shown up 4 and 5 times in the last year. So these were the type of numbers I wheeled. I didn't win but my numbers were very close to the winning numbers. I felt a sense of satisfaction because I improved my odds of winning, my decision making skills, and my ability to make an educated guess based on looking at the numbers rather than purely guessing. And these are just some of the reasons I play the lotto/lottery. The bottom line is this: KNOW YOURSELF AND KNOW WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. AND GO FOR IT WITH GUSTO! No matter what, you'll always come out a winner with that attitude.
The Best Source to having a good chance at winning Millions........2003-06-03
Time and time again people play the lottery, but fall short
because some do not use any methods, but just pick whatever number comes to mind. Winning is about luck, and strategies
not just about picking whatever number.
The book has several chapters that talk about the ways, the
different ways one may improve on his game, Your lotto game.
It does not matter what game it is: Powerball, Texas Lotto, The Virginia Lottery because the literature will help you with what you want, and that is strategies. All you have too do is read the book plain and simple; i believe it is a small book because another Version of this book came out and is a litte bigger, but the author is still Professor Jones.
One method that will stick with you is the Frequency number theory. This Frequency theory talks about which number comes out the most in the lottery. The methods are simple to read, and are not time consuming as other books that offer strategies that you may think are good but are nothing but one thing: JUNK & PURE CONFUSION.
Regardless of what one or any one says, we all want too be one thing:...Millionaires, with hot cars, houses, and the opposite sex wanting...us.
I also recommend lotto books on the Canadian Lottery, for more methods. But this book by Professor Jones is recommended. Mom and Pop or seven eleven store customer lotto players have more of a chance in winning with this book as compared to just throwing your money away...Best of luck to all Lotto players of all states. Book is recommended.

Book Description
This is the third volume of the
Handbook of Game Theory with Economic Applications. Since the publication of multi-Volume 1 a decade ago, game theory has continued to develop at a furious pace, and today it is the dominant tool in economic theory. The three volumes together cover the fundamental theoretical aspects, a wide range of applications to economics, several chapters on applications to political science and individual chapters on applications to disciplines as diverse as evolutionary biology, computer science, law, psychology and ethics. The authors are the most eminent practitioners in the field, including three Nobel Prize winners.
The topics covered in the present volume include strategic ("Nash") equilibrium; incomplete information; two-person non-zero-sum games; noncooperative games with a continuum of players; stochastic games; industrial organization; bargaining, inspection; economic history; the Shapley value and its applications to perfectly competitive economies, to taxation, to public goods and to fixed prices; political science; law mechanism design; and game experimentation.

Serious analysis of picking lottery numbers.......2007-06-12
Despite the title, this is a well written and serious book on the modern ``pick 6 numbers out of 49" type of lottery. Of course you can't affect your chance of winning but you can try to choose unpopular number combinations to maximize your share if you do win. Uses empirical data from around the world to describe ``foolish ways to play" (based on previous winning or non-winning numbers, patterns, etc) -- what makes these foolish is simply that too many other people use them. Concludes with a non-obvious recommendation: choose randomly subject to several constraints (one of which requires a bit of math to understand: a quantified measure of non-arithmetical-progression). An appendix has some upper-division college level math probability analysis, but non-math folks can just ignore it.
do not buy this book.......2006-11-09
95% of it explains obvious and stupid things to not do, and you need a master+ in Mathematics to understand the 5% left of this book that i would have rated -5 stars if i had the opportunity to do so, save $15 and go play lottery instead you'll have more chances to win this way.
One of only two good lottery books.......2003-05-28
There are probably only two really useful and accurate books on how to play the lottery. The first is Ziemba, W. T. (1986) ,Dr.Z's 6/49 Lotto Guidebook, and the second is this nice little volume.
The authors focus is on winning the greatest possible amount if your numbers are selected. The book is based on the important idea that, while there is no way to increase your chances of winning, there are plays which will increase or decrease the expected payoff, in the unlikely event that you do win.
If you pick numbers the same way other people do, then you will have to share your winnings--something that could be very disappointing indeed. That is why, with the exception of this book and Dr. Z's book, the most popular lottery books will hurt you the most.
Nice book.......2003-01-19
Henze and Riedwyl's book on the lottery is very interesting in that it gives a honest mathematical and statistical view of the lottery. Unlike the vast majority of [other] books about lotteries, Henze and Riedwyl know mathematics, statistics, and probability theory. They make no claims that you will win (because you won't), but if you like recreational mathematics, it's an enjoyable book.
lotteryrev.......2002-09-10
If you want to stay away from lingering lottery myths
and learn the truth and nothing but the truth on how to play lottery, this book is most valuable source of information. Based on the analysis of many millions of played combinations in many countries, it singles out the foolish styles of play that the typical lottery player follows. I found it especially interesting to see that playing foolishly means having to share the jackpot with thousands of other winners. Compared to most other books on the lottery, this book is completely honest. It is the definite lottery book for smart lotto players!

Very good resource book.......2007-10-06
This is a very good resource book for your ESL classes. The games were easily adapted to our specific needs and I'm glad that I purchased it.
Games for Language Learning.......2007-08-24
It's an excellent educational resource for teaching ESL. I recommend it. My students have enjoy the games I have done with them the first few days of class.
wonderful resource.......2007-03-10
What a great resource this book is. I will definitely consult it often. Games for anything and everything.
Useful.......2004-05-13
This is an invaluable resource for language teachers. As any classroom teacher knows, games often add life to a class that is about to fall asleep. They add energy to a class and give the students a little burst of motivation. This book covers a wide variety of games for teaching English as a second language. The games are divided into discrete categories. For example some of the categories are psychological games, magic tricks, story games, and memory games. Since the games are divided in this way, it becomes easy to find the game that will suit your classroom goals. I've used the ideas in this book many times in my classes and they work well.
Book Description
The worldwide video game console market surpassed $10 billion in 2003. Current sales of new consoles is consolidated around 3 major companies and their proprietary platforms: Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. In addition, there is an enormous installed "retro gaming" base of Ataria and Sega console enthusiasts. This book, written by a team led by Joe Grand, author of "Hardware Hacking: Have Fun While Voiding Your Warranty", provides hard-core gamers with they keys to the kingdom: specific instructions on how to crack into their console and make it do things it was never designed to do.
By definition, video console game players like to have fun. Most of them are addicted to the adrenaline rush associated with "winning", and even more so when the "winning" involves beating the system by discovering the multitude of "cheats" built into most video games. Now, they can have the ultimate adrenaline rush---actually messing around with the soul of the machine and configuring it to behave exactly as the command. This book builds on the motto of "Have Fun While Voiding Your Warranty" and will appeal to the community of hardware geeks who associate unscrewing the back of their video console with para-jumping into the perfect storm.
* Providing a reliable, field-tested guide to hacking all of the most popular video gaming consoles.
* Written by some of the most knowledgeable and recognizable names in the hardware hacking community.
* Game Console Hacking is the first book on the market to show game enthusiasts (self described hardware geeks) how to disassemble, reconfigure, customize and re-purpose their Atari, Sega, Nintendo, Playstation and Xbox systems.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of fun--if you're brave enough.......2005-03-16
Ever wanted to create an Atari 2600 PC? What about moding your Xbox? How about replacing the screen on your Game Boy? This book will show you how to do all of these things and more. All you need (aside from a couple of basic tools) is a strong stomach and an iron resolve to void your warranty. In fact, having no fear is 90% of the work.
This book provides step-by-step instructions for a number of various "hacking" projects on a variety of consoles. The majority of the hacks in this book deal with "retro" or "classic" systems, like the Atari series (2600, 5200, or 7800) as well as the Nintendo NES system. Some of these hacks update these systems to work on modern televisions (like the addition of S-video to the 2600), but most are just for fun (like creating a left-hand Atari controller).
The hacks for modern consoles are also quite interesting, but most are concerned with the installation of a mod chip. There is some interesting discussion about installing Linux on a Game Boy or Xbox. The authors discuss how to boot a PS2 from a memory card, and other interesting items. However, while these sections are very useful and quite interesting, there's nothing quite like dissecting an obsolete video game system.
This book even has an appendix dedicated to teaching the basics of electrical engineering. There is also a great list of distributors for obsolete or hard-to-find components. In fact, the appendix is so good that it alone makes this book worthwhile.
If you're ever going to take apart some electronic system, I would first suggest getting a book by these guys. If that electronic system happens to be some game console, then this is the book for you. These guys know what they're doing-they're the best.
Major Hacks for Game Console Machines.......2004-12-29
This is a fascinating, over-sized book that is filled with major hacks for various of today's video game consoles, including the Xbox, PlayStation 2, Nintendo NES, along with the Atari and Gamepark 32. The material assumes some degree of comfort with electronics and electrical engineering, although you do not of course have to be an electrical engineer to perform the hacks. You will need to be comfortable with working with integrated circuits, electrical assembly, soldering wires, and dis-assembling electronic devices. Of course, you will also need to be comfortable with possibly ruining beyond repair the discussed device, if you fail to successfully complete the described hacks.
This is a highly specialized book that specifically targets a unique audience, namely those confident in their skills and abilities to follow the excellent hacking instructions and step-by-step "how to hack" photographs that are replete throughout this important book.
More hardware hacking books pleaseeeee!.......2004-12-04
I just received this book days ago and I have read it cover to cover, of course I haven't been able to do all the hacks since it means cracking open many of my systems, but I was especially excited about the Atari 2600 stuff, since I am more into old programming and hacking. This book is one of a kind and I am glad people are starting to write books and develop products that show people how the hardware works as well as the software. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to experiment with hacking their consoles, also the book is fascinating as a general read. And if you liked this definitely check out "Hackers" by levy, "supercade" by burnham, "once upon Atari" DVD and definitely check out the XGAMESTATION retro game system at www.xgamestation.com if you want to build some oldschool game hardware.
Combining the best of hardware hacking and videogame systems.......2004-11-23
OK, I'm a little biased because I wrote the book, but Game Console Hacking (GCH) intends to be a fun, educational, and interesting guide to modifying video game consoles and accessories to do things they weren't originally intended to do. The book covers a wide range of systems, from the classic/retro Atari 2600 to the teenaged Nintendo NES to the modern Xbox and PlayStation 2 (other systems include the Game Boy Advance, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, and Gamepark GP32). The projects range from simple to complex, some requiring hardware/electronics skills and other requiring nothing but your video game system. The book guides you through a number of step-by-step projects with copious amounts of pictures and contains chapters on the tools required for the warranty voiding trade and a basic introduction to electronics. GCH was written as a follow-up to Hardware Hacking: Have Fun While Voiding Your Warranty, which was a more general look at modifying various consumer electronics. GCH specifically targets video game systems, as the name implies, and combines the best aspects of hardware hacking and modifications into a single book. I recommend the book to anyone with a curiousity about modifying their video game systems and wondering what actually goes on "under the hood".
Breathe new life into your old classics..........2004-11-22
Have you got an old Atari 2600 sitting around that you don't know what to do with? Game Console Hacking will give you some interesting ideas on how to recycle those old gaming consoles.
Chapter list: Tools of the Warranty-Voiding Trade; Case Modifications: Building an Atari 2600PC; The Xbox; PlayStation 2; Nintendo Game Boy Advance; Gamepark 32 (GP32); Nintendo NES; Atari 2600; Atari 5200; Atari 7800; Electrical Engineering Basics; Coding 101; Operating Systems; Index
Although I'm not into gaming so much any more, my kids have had most of the more recent consoles at one time or another. And growing up, I had one of the Atari 2600. But after the latest and greatest comes out, the older gaming systems end up gathering dust. Game Console Hacking is an interesting book on things you can do to breathe new life into the old classics. This book is heavy on altering hardware components, so you need to be comfortable with a screwdriver and a soldiering iron. But even if you're not as experienced in that area as you'd like, the book has an abundance of photos to show exactly what you should be doing at any given point in the process. At the end of each chapter, there's also a section on homebrew game development as well as additional resources on the Web for that particular console. So even if you're not wanting to hack your hardware, you will be able to find information to push your gaming fun even further.
For me, my favorite hack was using an Atari 2600 console to contain a full-blown PC. I thought that was just too cool. I could imagine showing up at a user group meeting to do some software demo with an Atari 2600 under my arm, and blowing people away when I boot it up as a regular PC. I don't know that I'll get around to doing it, but it's an intriguing idea.

Smart solutions and easy to analyze.......2005-06-02
Professor Jones writes an easy to follow book that can increase your odds of winning. His positional analysis and sum total strategies are excellent tools, and tha fact that he has a degree in statistics give him more clout.
It could be better.......2002-11-27
This book does offer some basic and simple analytical methods about how to choose winning numbers. These methods can be easily abserved by a perceptive lotto player. Also the book discusses a bit about the winning combinations (Dimitriv systems). So basically, there is not much of some creative work. It's for very starters.
A brief overview of statistical strategies.......2002-09-04
The book focusses on three main types of lotteries being played in North America today: 3/4 ball lotteries, 649 style lotteries, and Keno. Powerball and scratch 'n win lotteries are also mentioned. Prof Jones details the major statistical approaches which can be used to maximize the odds of winning any given lottery. Wheeling systems, both full and abbreviated, are discussed. This is a relatively short, small book; it contains plenty of practical 'how to' advice. Players who wish to simply follow a set of cookbook instructions will be right at home here.
I deducted one star simply because I would have preferred a larger book, with more statistical proof to validate the approaches mentioned. I also felt that the discussion of abbreviated wheeling systems was, well, abbreviated; there are a number of templates - hundreds - and while these could have been included, Prof Jones would prefer to sell them to you as a separate product advertised in the back of the book. Still, he does include several commonly used templates, and explain their use.
Actually, there are a number of products advertised in the back of the book, most of them sold by Prof Jones. While I normally prefer my books to be advertisement free, I felt that including advertisements for products very likely to be of great interest to the purchaser probably isn't a huge sin. So, in this case, I chose not to deduct a point. To his credit, there isn't any evidence to indicate that Prof Jones has edited his book in such a way as to make purchase of additional items mandatory. While the products advertised will make the methods described in the book easier to implement, the book does stand on its own.
There are no examples in the book of how odds improve using his methods. There is also no discussion as to whether his methods will improve your odds enough to break even or show a small profit; but, given that there are absolutely no specific financial claims mentioned, it would not surprise me to discover that you'll still lose money by gambling. Whether you'll lose less using the methods in this book is by no means clear.
The book is by no means an exhaustive exploration of the topic; it is more like a 300 MPH overview from 10,000 feet. What it does do is provide the beginning gambler with a basic introduction into choosing numbers which may be more likely to hit. It will stimulate thought, and give the number crunchers something to keep them crunching away into the wee, small hours of the night.
Aside from its brevity and lack of concrete examples and statistical proof, there's really nothing wrong with the book. It's a quick and easy read; it does have specific step by step examples on choosing numbers; and if you believe that statistical analysis will improve your lottery results, then this book is not a bad place to start.
Good luck!
Great workable info .........2002-07-02
I have played lotteries for more than 18 years, learning a lot along the way. This book is one of the best I have read. It is no-nonsense, direct, easy-to-read info...without marketing and sales deceptions.
Knowledge that your neighbor wont tell You.......2001-04-28
i have to say that this is a better version, this is the second version of it, and i must say that it is good. You have to believe in yourself when you play and apply the strategies that Professor Jones says in his book. I dont know his first name but he goes by Professor Jones. Any the methods in the first book will be elaborated even more, along with new methods that he has come up himself (prof jones). the frequency method and the hot numbers are very important strategies when playing the game. it does not matter whether you play the Virginia lottery or the Oregon lottery, or any other lottery out there. they are good. even though i have not won yet, but other reviews here say that they have won okay money. as for myself, i only get a couple of numbers actually (2 out of the six)but it is best something as compared to obtaining absolutely nothing...dont loose patience, itis best to have these strategies than just going on blind luck or guess. just think about it, if your young winning 4 million dollars is alot, and if your old is still good---- book is highly recommended, and i will say this, books such as these are hard to find in just a regular book store where one lives. book is highly recommended more strategies for one to use to your everyday playing in increasing your odds in winning. dont buy the computer stuff offers rely on the book....good luck to lotto players

Customer Reviews:
Breaks It All Down.......2007-01-13
This book is very good. Totally excellent! I was suprised that it contained such detailed information regarding the games offered in gambling casinos. Specifically it is really good on how to take advantage of the casino, and make use of the best advantages regarding best odds on the games. It is also truthful about other games and what you real odds are. I found this very refreshing, as some books seem to rely on luck more.
It's also very good on explaining comps. What they are. How to get all the comps you can. How to use them, rather than just going for the usual mugs, free meal, or towels. How to is big in my game, so I enjoyed the advice and stories.
All and all I have been impressed with this book, and the only thing I would say negative is it's challenged me to "bring" up my math skills.
He's got the right idea.......2005-05-16
After reading this book about 4 or 5 times over, I've come to the conclusion that this is a decent book, and I emphasize decent. It isn't anything extraordinary or amazing, it is a solid book that teaches you how to gamble smart. The common misconception that people have when buying gambling books is they think they are going to get some magical betting system that will gaurantee them a win every time they step into a casino. Sorry guys, but that's not going to happen. The sooner you you realize that, the better.
What Scoblete does is he teaches you the basic fundamentals of all the general games(and some that I've never even heard of) and provides the best possible strategies for all of them. His sections on blackjack and craps are the best. So if those are your games(which they should be if you're a serious gambler) then I would highly recommend this book to you. Some people laugh at his 5 count pass and come strategy, but after playing it and researching it, I found that it actually works. What is most misunderstood about this system is that it doesn't help you win so much as it helps you avoid losing by not betting during cold streaks. All the math jockeys out there will tell you that you can't predict when streaks will occur, that a seven can come up at any time no matter when you bet, and by using this system it will not mathematically improve your odds, and they're right. BUT, at the same time, it will not reduce your odds of winning either since his system incorporates the use of craps' basic strategy anyway by betting the pass line and come and taking the odds. It merely stretches your bankroll so you can play for a longer period of time and, as a result, rake in more comps.
Finding a biased wheel IS the only way to beat roulette and it has been proven that biased wheels DO exist by testimonials I have heard from casino managers from several Las Vegas casinos. But it sounds like too much work for a game that is so hard to beat. Especially when you can just walk ten feet away and play craps for better odds. The chapter on the 'Day in the Life of a Guerrilla Gambler' is entertaining but I wouldn't go as far to say that you could make an entire movie out of it(like some of the other reviews have suggested), considering it's only 35 pages long and the average movie script is about 200 pages long. But Scoblete is an outstanding writer. The chapters on comps, gambling myths, bankroll management, and the ten commandments of gambling are very good. The chapters on roulette, baccarat, pai gow and video poker are adequate.(I didn't even bother reading the chapter on slot machines.)
There are two reasons why I gave this book 4 stars in stead of five. The first reason is that he has a 27 page chapter on all of the junky carnival games people play(caribbean stud, sic bo, super pan nine, etc). He explains each game in light detail, tells you the optimal strategy for it, and then follows it up by telling you to avoid playing these games at all cost. It just seems like a waste of a chapter. If you're suppose to avoid these games in the first place, you don't need to waste your time learning them. The second reason I gave this book 4 stars is because it has a terrible poker section. Scoblete makes it painfully obvious that poker is not his game of choice, plus poker is way too complex of a game to be taught in a simple sixteen page chapter. His poker section is only for severe amateurs. If you want to become a poker pro, I would suggest Doyle Brunson's SUPER SYSTEM and David Sklansky's THEORY OF POKER.
In conclusion, if you want to learn how to play quick and smart at all of the general casino games, this is a very good book and I would definitely recommend it(pro or amateur), especially for its price. I know this was a long tutorial, but I thank anyone and everyone who had the discipline to sit and read the entire thing, and I hope you found my input useful.
A Must Read.......2004-09-22
This was my first book by Frank Scoblete and everyone should study this material before they enter a Casino. Frank will give you a good time and save you money. He is a great writer and the information is right on. Well worth the money.
Beat the Casnos!.......2004-08-19
This book helped me incredibly understand the odds and help beat the casino at their games. I recommend it.
The Best.......2004-04-05
This is the best book on all the casino games that I have ever read. It is also a lot of fun to read as Scoblete is a great writer who keeps the pace moving. His great stories and insights are worth the price of the book alone! Get this, you won't be sorry.
