Book Description
The Handbook of Environmental Health is a must for the reference library of anyone with environmental concerns. Written by experts in the field and co-published by the National Environmental Health Association, this volume continues to be a valuable college textbook and major information resource on environmental issues. The two-volume Handbook of Environmental Health has been a standard reference for over 23 years. Completely revised and expanded to reflect the latest developments and discoveries in this constantly changing and evolving field, the fourth edition continues to provide a basis for understanding the interactions between humans and the environment and how such interactions affect the health and welfare of individuals. Each volume includes a chapter on instrumentation, state-of-the-art graphics, a brand new comprehensive bibliography, and an index. They are an ideal text/reference for college and university students or professionals in the environmental, health, and occupational safety fields. Focusing on factors that are generally associated with the outdoor environment, Volume II discusses a variety of environmental issues such as: toxic air pollutants and air quality control, risk assessment, solid and hazardous waste problems and controls; safe drinking water problems and standards; on-site and public sewage problems and control; plumbing hazards; air, water, and solid waste programs; technology transfer; geographic information systems and mapping; bioterrorism and security, disaster emergency health programs, ocean dumping; and much more.
Book Description
Step-by-step guide to environmental calculation. The only hands-on reference of its kind, Handbook of Environmental Engineering Calculations, by respected national expert C.C. Lee, provides calculation procedures for solid waste management; air resources management; water quality assessment and control; surface water; lake and reservoirs; groundwater; public water supply; waste water treatment; and risk assessment/pollution prevention. Each procedure is presented with fully illustrated steps. The author, an EPA Research Program Manager, shows the integration of regulatory requirements into environmental design, so that the resulting designs are more acceptable to regulators.
Customer Reviews:
Step-By-Step Calculations --- Not Here.......2006-03-08
I found the book interesting but not useful. Your best bet is to go to the EPA website for procedures on calculations. Some of the discussion on dry scrubbers and other equipment was useful but not in a form that can be readily used for calculations or sizing.
If this review was helpful, please add your vote -- Thanks.
A hands-on book for professionals.......2000-08-11
I find this book to be very useful. It deal with water, wastewater and air pollution control related design issues in quite an easy to understand format. The fundamentals have been covered in great detail.

Book Description
The Handbook of Air Toxics compiles, defines, and clarifies several methods and concepts of airborne toxic substances found in the environment. This comprehensive reference helps regulators, consultants, and other environmental professionals meet the challenges of sampling and analysis, emissions reductions, and health and safety issues related to human exposure. It is an important reference addressing the ongoing concern about the consequences of air pollution, and the implementation and modification of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Air Act. Some of the methods described in the Handbook of Air Toxics include fluorescence, thermal desorption, selected ion monitoring, ion chromatography, light microscopy, specific electrode analysis, titration, colorimetry, atomic absorption, and spectrophotometry. It also covers the use of isokinetic sampling trains, midget impingers, carbon molecular sieves, and sampling canisters in the analysis of air toxics. The Handbook also contains recommendations from the EPA for analytical methods for those air toxics where methods do not already exist and provides advance information on future method development by the EPA.

Air Pollution Control Equipment Selection Guide
ASIN: 0849395887 |
Book Description
In the debate over pollution control, the price of pollution is a key issue. But which is more costly: clean up or prevention? From regulations to technology selection to equipment design, Air Pollution Control Technology Handbook serves as a single source of information on commonly used air pollution control technology. It covers environmental regulations and their history, process design, the cost of air pollution control equipment, and methods of designing equipment for control of gaseous pollutants and particulate matter. This book covers how to: · Review alternative design methods · Select methods for control · Evaluate the costs of control equipment · Examine equipment proposals from vendors With its comprehensive coverage of air pollution control processes, the Air Pollution Control Technology Handbook is a detailed reference for the practicing engineer who prepares the basic process engineering and cost estimation required for the design of an air pollution control system. It discusses the topics in depth so that you can apply the methods and equations presented and proceed with equipment design.
Customer Reviews:
Good literature review, very dated absorption technology.......2003-02-06
The review of the Clean Air Act is well done. Absorption tower examples are very dated - saddles are stated to be the preferred tower packing, so the tower designed is grossly oversized with enormous pressure drop compared to what is possible with a modern packing. If you need a reference work with practical examples to pollution control towers keep looking.
Air Pollution Control Technology Handbook.......2003-02-01
If you need a reference work that summarizes the Clean Air Act then this is a good source. It is also has technically sound theoretical explanations of air pollution control. However it is a poor source if you seek suggestions for any type of current air pollution control project. The examples in the text are extremely dated and hence grossly oversized. The authors recommend that saddles be used to pack towers and then design the tower to have over 40 ft of packing. As a result their towers are much to big, much too tall and have enormously high pressure drop. Unfortunately the authors ignore (or are simply unaware of) several generations of mass transfer packing development that allow for much more practical and far less costly designs than per their examples.

Book Description
A panel of respected air pollution control educators and practicing professionals critically survey the both principles and practices underlying control processes, and illustrate these with a host of detailed design examples for practicing engineers. The authors discuss the performance, potential, and limitations of the major control processes-including fabric filtration, cyclones, electrostatic precipitation, wet and dry scrubbing, and condensation-as a basis for intelligent planning of abatement systems,. Additional chapters critically examine flare processes, thermal oxidation, catalytic oxidation, gas-phase activated carbon adsorption, and gas-phase biofiltration. The contributors detail the Best Available Technologies (BAT) for air pollution control and provide cost data, examples, theoretical explanations, and engineering methods for the design, installation, and operation of air pollution process equipment. Methods of practical design calculation are illustrated by numerous numerical calculations.
Customer Reviews:
too expensive.......2006-06-29
Upon receiving this book, I feel a little disappointed. I admit it is a first sight impression, but apparently the book provide litlle more than basic principles and ecuations. At this price, I spected something more. I do not mean is a bad book but, be warned, surely you can get the same information from a cheaper source.
