Book Description
Coryn, Soren, and the Band preside over a new Golden Age of the Great Tree under the subtle influence of the Ember. All seems well, but beneath the prosperity of peace Coryn is tortured by the suspicion that his evil mother, Nyra, is a hagsfiend and that his own blood carries the haggish taint. He wanders afar searching for the truth from hagsfiends themselves - putting the Great Tree in danger. Soren & the Band follow their new king to strange parts to guard him from the consequences of his obsession.
Customer Reviews:
What a Great Read!.......2007-09-04
This book was great! I really enjoyed reading this book.
In the Golden Tree, The Band and the young King Coryn leave the tree. The ember that Coryn retrieved has made the Island of Hoole in an everlasting summer, where everything is golden, even in the time of the white rain. Otulissa stays behind, and finds that not everything is golden there. Two owls become obsessed, and come up with crazy rituals and performances. The time at the Great Tree is an unfortunate one. Someone must get word to the Band, but who?
I have to say, my favorite part was either the big battle or the part with Madam Plonk. I think that everyone will be happy with this suspenseful and exciting book.
Best Series EVER!!!.......2007-07-13
I own every book in this series and they get better every time! Start with book 1 then go in order because it won't make sense and won't be as good if you don't.
Must read this book.......2007-05-07
Golden tree keeps you locked into the story of all the owls of gahoole. I was so caught up I read the whole book in one day!! The whole series is a must read.
An Amazing Read.......2007-04-27
I read this book, and it was fantastic! The Golden Tree is perhaps one of Mrs. Lasky's best books in the entire Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. The Band finally makes a comeback, and Coryn is getting used to being King. Soren's chicks also hatch, though I was disappointed there wasn't much about them in The Golden Tree.
Coryn and the Band go on a journey to discover whether Nyra is really a hagsfiend, and if Coryn's blood is tainted due to his evil heritage, but end up finding out something totally different and possibly even more dangerous. A dark secret from the past is unearthed, and is in Nyra's clutches. Coryn and the Band need to stop Nyra before it's too late, and an important, beloved character nearly dies, and another character does die. I was practically on the edge of my seat with excitement!
Meanwhile, in Coryn's absence, Otulissa is left to deal with the annoying Whiskered Screech Owl, Gemma, and Elyan the Great Gray Owl. Both have become obsessed with the Ember of Hoole, and many Guardians start to follow them. Eventually, even Otulissa is powerless to stop them, and the Guardians' only hope of alerting Coryn lies in one of the most unlikely of owls.
A character mentioned in Book 1, Bess the Boreal Owl, Grimble's favorite daughter, reappears as the Keeper of the Palace of Mists in The Golden Tree. However, Bess, like Soren's daughters, Pellimore, and Eglantine, also has no dialogue, except for flashbacks.
One of the book's greatest surprises was Madame Plonk's amazing personality transformation, from a spoiled, fat old singer to a warrior gadfeather. There are also hints at new romances, and a brand-new owl kingdom. I can't wait for The River of Wind to come out!
The Golden Tree is a must-read for any fantasy lover!
Fantastic.......2007-02-11
There was a nearly six-month lapse between "To Be a King" and "The Golden Tree," and I was not disappointed by this 12th installment of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series.
A brief summary: The Great Ga'Hoole Tree is glowing gold from the Ember of Hoole's influence, and the Island of Hoole has entered a state of perpetual summer. But after King Coryn and the Band leave the tree, Otulissa soon discovers that all that's gold is not necessarily good. The Ember enthralls the owls of Ga'Hoole, and many of them begin to act strangely, especially Gemma the Whiskered Screech Owl and Elyan the Great Gray Owl. When this strange behavior goes too far, it becomes clear that someone must get word out to the king and the Band.
"The Golden Tree" is suspenseful, and interlaced with the excitement and quality I've long since come to expect of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. Fans of the books will not be disappointed, and the cliffhanger at the end will leave them looking forward to Book 13, "The River of Wind," set for release by July 1st. All in all, a fantastic read!

Grank, the first collier, uses his skills with fire and metals to forge weapons for battle. With great trepidation Hoole uses the power of the Ember in the final, decisive battle and wins. At the dawn of a new ear of peace, Hoole searches for the ideal place to establish not a kingdom but an order of free owls and finds the Great Tree. (continued)

This Was Great!.......2007-09-04
Wow! What an amazing book!
I was so caught up by the Warriors series by Erin Hunter, that I didn't know that two new books from the Guardians of Ga'Hoole had come out. I quickly bought them, but put them aside to read something else. By this time, I had forgotten most of what happened. So I started from the First Collier and worked my way up.
This is the last book in the sub-series, The Legends of Ga'Hoole. In this book, the King Hoole, son of King H'rath and Queen Siv, grandson of King H'rathmore, has to live in a world with nachtmagen runs free amongst the hagsfiends. The evil Lord Arrin's troops have split since their last defeat, but is now regrouping. Theo's brother, Shadyk, has taken over the grand Ice Palace, which is rotting since there is no code of honor. Hoole must amass an army to drive out Shadyk and his evil followers, and drive away Lord Arrin's reforming group of evil hagsfiends and owls.
This book was great! It had a lot of suspense and it was worth the money!

A Well-written Book, Some Errors.......2007-04-27
I liked To Be A King, but I didn't love it. In the copy I got, there were quite a few errors, and Mrs. Lasky didn't tie up all of the loose ends as effectively as in her previous books.
The things I liked about this book in particular were the creative new characters, a new romance, and Hoole's transition from being a chick to an adult, from being a follower to a leader. Part of the book centers on the forces of evil (Pleek, Ygryk, Kreeth, and Lutta, Pleek and Ygryk's "daughter"), while the other part centers on the newly formed Guardians of Ga'Hoole.
In this book, the Guardians of Ga'Hoole are founded, and the final battle for the N'rythghar is waged. While King Hoole reigns over the S'rthgahr, chaos runs rampant in the N'rythghar. Lord Arrin is ammassing an army for a final invasion, while kraals, Ullryck's hagsfiend troops, and a mad upstart owl's forces fight for the spoils. King Hoole must also form an army before Short Light, or lose all hope of ever reclaiming his father's throne. Hoole gains new allies: Strix Strumajen the Spotted Owl, Sir Bors the Barn Owl, Sir Tobyfor the Northern Hawk Owl, Lord Rathnik the Snowy Owl, and many others.
New, dark forces also lurk, preparing to strike and steal the Ember of Hoole: the archfiend Kreeth, and the changeling bird Lutta. Lutta transforms into Emerilla, Strix Strumajen's lost daughter, in order to gain Hoole's trust and steal the Ember. But Lutta finds something much more than just the Ember...
There are also deaths in To Be A King, but nothing too disappointing. Basically, the entire book explains how the Guardians of Ga'Hoole came to be.
But there were some problems in the book. Some parts were poorly edited, and had many errors. At the end, it was unclear whether or how Lord Arrin, Ullryck, and Shadyk were defeated and/or killed. Sure, Hoole and the Guardians triumphed, but the whole battle was mostly vague.
Other than that, To Be A King is a great ending for the Legends triolgy and provides some insight on Book 12, The Golden Tree. I would reccommend this book to fantasy lovers.
GUARDIANS OF GAHOOLE.......2007-02-21
I BOUGHT THE BOOKS BY KATHRYN LASKY FOR MY FOURTEEN YEAR OLD GRANDAUGHTER. THE FIRST ONE WAS ON HER BOOK LIST FOR SUMMER READING. AS SOON AS SHE BEGAN TO READ IT SHE ASKED IF THERE WERE MORE BY THE SAME AUTHOR. AFTER I FOUND ALL THE OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES I ORDERED ALL OF THEM FOR HER CHRISTMAS PRESENT THAT YEAR. SHE SHARES THEM WITH HER COUSINS BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS. THE STORIES ARE INTERESTING, EXCITING AND WELL WRITTEN.
Outstanding Book.......2007-01-18
My son has read this entire series (so far) and he just LOVES it! All of the books have kept him riveted!
Great book!.......2007-01-10
In To Be a King, Hoole must fight against the odds in a battle in which enemy war lords are amassing armies of hagsfeinds and owls. A mad owl named Shadyk is amassing an army of young hagsfeinds, as is a hagsfeind named Ullryk, Lord Arinn's assasin. In the book, Hoole must decide to use the magic of the ember to restore N'yrthghar.
It is a very thrilling book in the series of Guardians of Ga'hoole.

In the first book in the GUARDIANS... series, the reader is introduced to Soren, a barn owl and the centerpiece of the series. When Soren is pushed from his family's nest by his older brother, he is rescued from certain death on the forest floor by agents from a mysterious school for orphaned owls, St. Aggie's. When Soren arrives at St. Aggie's, he suspects there is more to the school than meets the eye. He and his new friend, the clever and scrappy Gylfie, find out that St. Aggie's is actually a training camp where the school's leader can groom young owls to help achieve her goal--(cont.)
Customer Reviews:
It was so boring I didn't read the whole thing.......2007-09-25
I got this book since it was suppossed to be good. I finished the first chapter and saw that it was so boring. Then I skipped ahead to the end to see if it was any good. Sometimes a book can be boring in the first part, but as it goes on it gets better. That was not the case with this book! The characters had no substance and were just stupid and uninteresting. The story was boring and uninteresting also. I would have given it 0 stars, but that was not an option.
Great Story.......2007-09-05
Hi, I am using my father's Amazon username to write this review.
This book was very fun to read. I enjoyed the length of the book, (I have never actually willingly read a book over 170 pages). The story moves along a little slowly. Soren and Gylfie's reactions to Saint Aggie's weren't what I expected. Overall the book was exiting with SOME (very little) heart-pounding drama. I will continue reading the series. I am now reading The Journey.
Good, but not the best, but worth the time..........2007-03-24
Young Soren is a barn owl living in the kingdom of Ga-Hoole. He is a young owlet and despised by his older brother Kludd, so much that Kludd pushes Soren out of the nest, a very disgraceful thing to do. Soren seems to have no hope of survival when two owls swoop down and take him to a place called St. Aggies Orphange for Orphaned Owls. There he is horrified by the terrible going-ons, one of the worst the terrifying moon blinking. You will have to find out on your own what happens to young Soren; who he befriends, who he makes enemies with, and what terrible secrets he finds.
I found it difficult at first to picture owls as main charecters, but I soon got used to it and discovered what an engrossing book it was. It wasn't better than Warriors: Into the Wild, and Warriors:New Phrophecy:Midnight, but it was a very exciting, well-written book, but as I am now on book four, The Siege, after halting the series for a year or twoand moving on to something else, I find the author's type of writing quite trivial. But, it is still a very good book, and worth the time, though rent it at the library instead of buying it is my advice.
An overview of "the capture".......2007-03-23
The setting for the book, "Guardians of Ga'hoole: The Capture", is mainly in the canyons and tunnels of St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls. This place is the perfect place for keeping young owlets with no flight experience, until Soren and Gylfie were captured. The two largest problems these two very close friends had were to escape being moon blinked or scalded, and to learn how to fly so they could warn the owl world of the treacheries of St. Aggie's. The only way for them to do any of this is with the help of Grimble, an adult boreal owl at St. Aggie's.
So Soren and Gylfie were given temporarily access to the inventorium, where unbeknownst the overlords of St. Aggie's, the two of them were instructed on how to fly by Grimble. Finally, the night came when Grimble believed that Soren and Gylfie were strong enough to make the flight straight up and out of the canyons. So that night Soren and Gylfie were led by Grimble into the library, a place at St. Aggie's forbidden to all but the overlords, so they could take off and fly into the night, hopefully never to be seen at St. Aggie's again. That night haunts both Soren's and Gylfie's minds because as they left St. Aggie's, one of the overlords murdered Grimble.

Book Description
Coryn and the Band have returned to the Great Ga'Hoole Tree and restored order. With the Ember safely hidden away, the tree shakes off its gaudy golden glow and recovers its natural majesty. Meanwhile, deep in the Palace of Mists, Bess finds an ancient map fragment that reveals that there are not 5 owl kingdoms -- as has been thought since time immemorial -- but 6. Coryn and the chaw of chaws set off to find this unknown land. In a landscape of perpetual winter, they discover a monastery of serene, learned owls, the likes of which no one has ever seen before.

Book Description
In the midst of war, Eglantine unwittingly becomes a spy for Kludd, leader of the Pure Ones (a group of evil owls). She is brainwashed by an owl sent by the Pure Ones to infiltrate the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. Her odd behavior eventually attracts attention, and Soren and his friends vow to find out what's wrong with Eglantine. They ultimately learn what happened and help her reverse the effects of the brainwashing. Kludd continues to battle against the Guardians of Ga'Hoole for control of their tree. In the end, Kludd and his forces are defeated. But his conflict with Soren is not yet over.

A great book........2005-10-16
This was an amazing book. A new owl named Ginger (who really works for the pure ones) who is in Eglantine's hollow puts flecks (dangerous bits of iron that can destroy an owls mind and still there gizzard)in Eglantines bed, shattering her mind and stopping her gizzard. Many things happen because of this, including Eglantine slipping away regularly to mirror lakes. But Eglantine soon relizes what is happening, and tries to fix it. And Eglantines friend Primrose also relizes what is going on. All these events lead to a fight with Nyra, Metalbeak's(Kludd's) evil mate, followed by a full fledged battle between those who went looking when Eglantine and Primrose went missing, and a large Battallion Headed by Nyra's Elite forces. An amazing book, with really shows you to be careful who your friends are.
P.S.wether or not youv'e read the other books, if you don't understand what I said, reread.
Ratings going down.......2005-09-26
I already said so but the # of pages as well as the ratings are going down
down
down. How could Eglantine be so stupid? And how could she be friends with Ginger? Stupid. And its the shortest book in the series. In every book weird new owl words are made up and the plot in this one jumps/flies all over the place. I wouldnt recommend it but the only way to know its that bad is to read it.
3 words, Shattering is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-08-06
The Shattering was my 4th favorite book in the whole seris. Kathryn Lasky is my favorite writer. After reading the shattering, Eglantine became one of my favorite charactors.

Also im 14 and i love this book!!!!
Ugh!.......2005-06-30
I can't believe that the author of the terrific Ga'Hoole series wrote this book. Some of the characters personalities were tweaked, the plot wasn't moving in the right direction, and you didn't enjoy reading it! Soren is so bossy to Eglantine, and Eglantine is not the character that she was before. She seems a lot younger, like a little kid in the beginning, and then is like evil at the end. It was too short, too. The other Ga'Hoole books, in my opinion, are only a little better than this one.

Customer Reviews:
You gotta read this!.......2007-05-13
If you like action and excitement, The Burning by Kathryn Lasky is the book for you. This fiction book is about an owl named Soren. Soren and his friends Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger are sent to imaginary lands called the Northern and Southern Kingdoms. They are sent to learn about war and fight with swords made out of ice. Then they will be ready to fight an evil group of owls called the Pure Ones. But the Pure Ones have more owns on their side. It takes place during the day and night. Soren is bold and courageous and Gylfie is sweet and tenderhearted. Twilight is bold and boastful and Digger is brave and nervous. My favorite character is Soren because hs holds the band together.
I would feel like Soren because I wouldn't want to kill my own brother. My connection is text-to-text because the Pure Ones have more owls and better weapons, and in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the witch had more people on her side.
I recommend this book because I like animals, action, and battles. My favorite part was when Soren battled Kludd. If I could change something I would like Kludd's mate, Nyra, to be killed in battle with kludd. You would have to like battles, owls, and action to like this book, but try it - you might like it! This book is suitable for ages eight and up.
Phenomenal book .......2007-02-27
"The Burning." Sixth in its series. It all starts out when Ezrylyb sends Soren and his band to search for Ezrylyb's old friends that helped him in the war of the ice claws. They find them and they bring them back to help them fight in a war against the evil pure ones. I love this book and I want to read the whole series.
Quit While You're Ahead, Lasky!.......2006-03-06
Ever since the third book of the series, Kathryn Lasky has started to make up random plots in the Guardians of the Ga'Hoole books. She takes things like The Others, shattering, stone stunning, and a whole host of owl words and puts them in various books of her series. They're not well written, and its pretty obvious that she's making them up as she goes along. She never uses the ideas again, and the books don't flow.
Still, that doesn't stop tons of younger readers from devouring her books and ignoring her mistakes. I can't do that, but I still have every one of this series. No matter how badly written and random they are, the ideas are amazingly imaginative, and each story is full of action, enough to keep most reading to the end.
Now, onto The Burning itself. In my opinion, it's the best since the second book, The Journey. Lasky finally gets back on track. It's from her main character, Soren the Barn Owl's perspective, like it should be. The previous book, The Shattering, comes from his sister Eglantine's point of view, which makes no sense, and the book itself has basically no impact on the actual overall plot of the series until the last chapter, which really could have been put ito the beginning of the Burning and saved us all the trouble of struggling through The Shattering in the first place.
In this book, Lasky shows her greatest strength, creating a new kingdom for her owl charcters, the Northern Kingdoms. She introduces new owl customs and ways of fighting, which are all great and interesting. Though, as usual, her old characters appear with slightly different personalities than the book before, you can ignore that and still enjoy the story. The ending is moving and has a few surprises, even if it's predictable, simply because that's how Soren's story has to end. I enjoyed The Burning immensely, and I've read it more than once.
The series should have ended here. I don't think that Lasky has any real plan as to what she's trying to end it with anymore, because I know of four more books out or being printed after this one, and each one is more obscure than the last. I think that it's too bad that a serie that started so well ended up on such uneven ground. Quit the series while you've still got fans, Lasky!
The Excitement Continues!.......2006-01-30
The storyline in Book Six, The Burning, is exciting from the very beginning. The plot climaxes with an ending that is sure to please any fan of the series. When I finished the book, I felt that the series could have ended with Book Six as the final installment.
One of the BEST books I have ever read.......2005-11-18
The owls of the G'hoole Tree rise up each night to preform noble deeds. The 'Chaw of Chaws' includes Soren Gylfie, Twilight, Digger, Outilissa, Martin, Ruby, and Eglantine. Soren is the band's leader, Eglantine is his sister, Gylfie is Soren's best friend, Digger is a deep thinker, and the rest are really good friends. Their task is to fly to the Northern Kingdoms to learn how to fight with ice daggers, swords made of ice. These owls also have to find allies for a war against the Pure Ones. The Pure Ones are very evil owls that are trying to take over the kingdom of owls. Will the owls of the G'hoole Tree win the war? You will have to read this exciting and suspense filled book to find out. But before you read the Burning, which is the sixth in the series, you have to read books 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. This whole series is one of the best series I have ever read.

Another great Ga'hoole book.......2006-05-28
My son and I have really enjoyed the whole Guardians of Ga'hoole series. This book is no exception. The story is well written and holds your attention quite well. We have read all of the series at bedtime and 3-4 chapters a night never seems like enough. We both always want more.
This story explains a lot of things mentioned in the other books. It was nice to see the background behind those books. Now we are anxiously awaiting the next addition to this wonderful series.
Great addition to the Ga'hoole series!.......2006-05-27
If you like the Guardiens of Ga'hoole series then you'll love this. Unlike the other series, now it talks about this one legend of this one spotted owl, Grank. He seems to have fire like powers such as.... when he looks at fire he has visions and so. This is so a must read and I can't wait to get the next book too!
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-05-22

Customer Reviews:
A Surprisingly Engaging Novel for All Ages!.......2007-09-14
Bark of the Bog Owl, by Jonathan Rogers was a book I actually thought I might not have much interest in. I was given the book to review and absolutely fell in love with the engaging story, great writing and fun characters. Can a fantasy story which lacks: dragons, elves, and magic really be so good? Oooh Yeeaah! There's plenty of action for young Aidan Errolson and his Feechie friend, Dobro Turtlebane. In fact, let me say that Dobro may be one of the most fun characters I've read about in a long time. There's nothing but page-turning-fun going on in this first book of the Wilderking trilogy. I got the first for free, but I had to go get the second and third myself and read both in two days apiece! The story stands out for its lessons on faith in the One God and for the inventive parallels with the story of young David from the bible. I highly recommend the entire series--James Somers, author: The Chronicles of Soone.
Excited to read aloud with my family.......2007-05-29
Our son is only 13-months old, but as I read the first book of the Wilderking Trilogy, I became more and more excited to hopefully read this book to him one day. The Bark of The Bog Owl is a quick adult read, but nonetheless enjoyable. I loved meeting each new character and discovering the swampy, woodsy world of the feechiefolk, and held my breath through the limestone caves. Our hero, Aidan, is motivated to his greatest actions because of a love for and loyalty to the [One God, our king, and Corenwald...] - such chivalrous concepts are exciting for children. The Bark of the Bog Owl is an adventure with great heart that stems especially from the relationship between Aidan and his heroic father (and all that his father has taught him about the Origin of the success of their beloved country Corenwald) and Aidan and his unlikely Feechie friend. I'm looking forward to reading the next two books and eventually sharing the trilogy aloud as a family.
I was wrong!.......2006-10-20
I wasn't sure when I bought this book if I would like it. The life of David, which forms the basis for the books in this series, is fascinating in its own right. I doubted that a fictional retelling of David's life story would make for very good reading. Was I wrong!
Now, don't misunderstand what I'm saying. This is not biography, and it's certainly not theology; it's fiction, and it's children's literature. But it's GOOD fiction, and GOOD children's literature. Jonathan Rogers knows how to tell a story. His use of language is descriptive and imaginative. The story is at times poignant or deeply moving, and at other times quite humorous. The characters, while perhaps a little predictable, are nevertheless intriguing and a lot of fun (especially Dobro Turtlebane of the Feechiefolk).
I read this out loud to my boys, who are 6 and 13. My 13-year old is an advanced reader, but he loved hearing this book read. In fact, he's pressuring me to get the next book ordered, so I can read it to them. And that's just what I'm off to do.
Revelling in Mediocrity.......2006-03-31
The Bark of the Bog Owl by Jonathan Rogers starts out as a promising, if not cliched, romp through a fantastical world. A little boy of twelve, named Aidan I believe, receives a prophecy of the "Wilderking." Obviously, by the end of the book, it becomes obvious that Aidan, the youngest of all his brothers, is the Wilderking.
This book started out wonderful. Even though I found Aidan killing the panther with a slingshot a little unbelievable, I was willing to read on. However, Jonathan's blatant theft of the story of "David and Goliath" from the Bible stripped all the magic and fun out of the book. I have nothing against the Bible, don't get me wrong, but a story shouldn't directly stolen from it and used as the main conflict in a book. Yes, this was where the story hit its climax.
The characters were undeveloped, but the plot was fast moving and the description adequate. The bit about the explosives in the cavern was a bit unbelievable when the two boys inside didn't go deaf from the blast. All in all, younger children will enjoy this book. I don't recommend it for people over the age of eleven. Its simple style will interest those, but the theft from one of the most famous books in the world will either surprise (in a bad way,) or disgust other readers.
Great Reading for Teens and Pre-Teens .......2006-02-22
There is a distinct lack of good fiction geared toward young people, specifically ages 10-14. Harry Potter isn't an option for some families. Artemis Fowl isn't nearly as well-known (which is unfortunate).
Now there's another option. Jonathan Rogers has written The Wilderking Trilogy, and offers us a series for young readers that is fun, exciting, and based on Christian ideals and principles.
Book 1, The Bark of the Bog Owl, was actually released back in 2004. The premise is familiar to Christians -- a young boy, Aiden Errolson, tending his father's sheep, is chosen by a mysterious prophet to be the next King -- the Wilderking, who comes to lead his people back to prominence in the world, and to reclaim the traditional ideals that the people have forgotten.
The only real weakness in this first book is that the main plot is far too predictable. Once I read that Aiden was a shepherd, I had a feeling that this would be the story of King David retold. Then the Phillist -- I mean, the Pyrthens -- show up with their "peace treaty," which leads to war. Then Aiden goes to his brothers at the front carrying cheese and other food. And guess what? There's this giant ...
That said, I really enjoyed this book. The subplots involving the aboriginal "feechies" is very enjoyable, especially the Feechiefeast that Aiden enjoys. The characters are familiar, but still deep. It's going to be interesting to see Aiden mature over the course of the next two books, and it's a relief to read about a boy who is actually boyish -- he likes to roam, play, and have adventures. He's a twelve-year-old who writes to the King volunteering his services as "an adventurer." And suddenly, he's got a huge responsibility dropped on him. He reacts the way any normal kid would react.
Rogers has a Ph.D in 17th Century English Lit, but this book reads as if he'd spent his academic career studying 18th Century American literature instead. The differences in dialect between feechie and 'civilizer' are distinct, American dialects, and the setting certainly reminds me of the American southeast -- fitting, since Rogers grew up in Georgia. The series has promise, and after I finished this book I was relieved that I'd gotten the second one to review as well. THAT review will be up in a half hour or so ...

Book Description
Nyroc has exiled himself from the Pure Ones. He flies alone, feared and despised by those who know him as Kludd's son, hunted by those whose despotism he has rejected, and haunted by ghostly creatures conjured by Nyra to lure him back to the Pure Ones. He yearns for a place he only half believes in -- the great tree -- and an uncle -- the near-mythic Soren -- who might be a true father to him. Yet he cannot approach the tree while the rumor of evil clings to him. To prove his worth, Nyroc will fly to The Beyond the Beyond seeking the legendary Relic and bring it, a talisman of his own

A Good Book To Read........2007-06-07
This is a great book to read if your a owl-lover, or a Guardian of Ga'Hoole fan. I'm now reading the ninth book, "The First Collier" I hoped that Kathryn could bring back her touch again. The first six books she wrote were AWESOME!
Going Downhill.......2007-04-16
Kathryn Lasky is starting to disappoint me. The first five or six books were great, but once they started to bring in Coryn and Nyra? The series started to go downhill. As with most series, if the author starts to write too many books, the writing gets sloppy. What happened to the action of the first book? Why bring in weird characters in weird ways? For instance, the wolfish creatures in the Beyond the Beyond. I'm saddened that Lasky can't make her old characters more interesting! I loved the Band, but now there's only Coryn. Please Kathryn, do something!

The best guardian book!!!.......2006-06-24
I give this a 5 stars because I've read all the books even the ninth, still waiting for the tenth, guadians are my life! Any way, it's amazing! Everyone should read this book! I wish I could tell you everything but then it would ruin the surpise in the end. Just becarful there's some thing that you won't like.

Book Description
Soren's beloved mentor, Ezylryb, is finally back at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. But all is not well. There's a war between good and evil in the owl kingdom. On one side is a group led by Soren's fearsome brother, Kludd, who wears a terrifying metal mask to cover his battle-scarred face. On the other side are the owls of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, who must fight to protect their legendary tree from Kludd's attacks.Soren, his friends, and the other owls at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree enter into fierce combat against Kludd's forces. They win a major battle, but warfare will continue in Book #5.

The Siege is AWESUME.......2006-04-07
This is a wonderful book! It is about a group of owls (Martin, Otulissa, Soren, Ruby, Twilight, Gylfie, and Digger) who go on a mission to St.Aggies to see if any spys from Kludd (a.k.a. metal beak, also Soren's brother) or the pure ones (Kludd's group of Barn owls)had come as spies to steal flecks. Meanwhile, (this is my favorite part) Kludd wants to besiege the Great Gahoole Tree. I like this book because there are alot of mini-battles. I give this book 5 stars for good ideas that make the book WAY more interesting.
The Family Joke!.......2006-03-16
In our family, we bring up Gaurdians of Ga'Hoole when we want to ridicule someone or make them feel stupid. Usually a conversation goes something like this:
"You're so dumb. I can't believe you like "Edge Chronicles."
"Ha! at least I don't like Gaurdians of Ga'Hoole!"
"..."
The stories of the brave and noble owls of the Great Ga'Hoole tree were just a step too far. The writing is fair and the story has its moments, but the story is far too serious. In "the Hatchling," the word "gizzard" is used something like 63 times. Who cares about gizzards? Another reason this story is so reviled in our house is because the characters are unreasonable. They will always act for the good of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. Sorren (so-REEN to us) and his friends are perfect little angels and they can do no wrong. The enemy owl, Kludd (KLOO-duh-duh) has no motivation at all. He wakes up one day and decides that he hates all of the other owls and wants to kill them. That's it.
I won't disrecommend it though, because I can see very clearly why some people would be attracted to it. Many people enjoy stories with cute talking animals, but I'm not one of them, and my family feels the same way.
Ga'Hoole Is Awesome!!!!!!!.......2006-01-24
I loved this book! I 've read every book in the series, but this one is a work of art. It has cool types of owls and other animals .When I first read this book at school, I accidently brought it home and read it again! I think that anyne who is into action, adventure, and most importantly owls should read this. Go Guardians of Ga'hoole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Suspenseful!.......2005-10-13
This is a detailed, fast paced novel that is really hard to put down. As you may have gleaned from what I titled this, It is a VERY suspenseful book involving murderous owls who think they are superior to all others, a pitiless "academy" trying to control all other owls, and the noble gaurdians of ga'hoole, trying to stop both crazed groups. Though I recommend you read them in order, Lasky catches you up on what happened in the other books. For all you owl lovers, this is definitely the book for you. Complete with sientific names, the character list at the back shows you the type of owls Soren and the other characters in the book are.
An Exciting Read and Learn About Owl Behavior.......2005-10-01
Ms. Lasky does a great job with characterizing the many owls in the story, and the plot keeps the reader turning page after page. Yet all the while, she educates the reader on the natural behaviors of owls. Thus, the reader is thrusted into a great piece of fiction, but still learns factual information on these beautiful creatures. I also highly recommend reading the series from the beginning. Ages 9-12 will enjoy this book.
