This is the classic from which many of our staff first learned to read, starting us on a path of unremitting bibliophilia. Are You My Mother? follows a confused baby bird who's been denied the experience of imprinting as he asks cows, planes, and steam shovels the Big Question. In the end he is happily reunited with his maternal parent in a glorious moment of recognition.
Book Description
Illus. in color. A baby bird is hatched while his mother is away. Fallen from his nest, he sets out to look for her and asks everyone he meets -- including a dog, a cow, and a plane -- "Are you my mother?"
Customer Reviews:
Great book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-08-11
My mom got me this book when i was only a few months old. It is a great book. Since i am older i don't read it as much but i didn't forget about it yet! It has a baby bird who falls out of its nest and goes out looking for its mother and it asks so many animals and it finally finds her.The illustrations are great. I would recommend it to any beginner.
A lovely book!.......2007-07-18
This book could not be sweeter! My 5 yo adores this book. It shows the bond and love a Mother and child have from day one.
YIKES! SCARRY!.......2007-07-17
Not a good book for kids. Being lost and alone, searching for your mother or anyone that looks like you will not only frighten your child but also teach them that they must find someone that looks like them to feel safe and accepted. This book is dated and not child appropriate. :-(
a childhood favorite passed down.......2007-05-15
I am just thrilled to see that this classic is still going strong. I remember this from the early 70s as I was a young girl and my father read this to me daily. And now, I had the priviledge of introducing the book to my daughter about a year ago. It became an instant favorite since it involves all the favorite characters of a toddler's life: conversations with a dog, cow, chicken, cat etc. Parents that enjoy getting creative when reading to their children will love this book!
Still has the same magic.......2007-05-08
I just finished reading "Are you my Mother?" with my daughter, having not heard it since I was a child. This book still posesses the same magic it did for me all those years ago.
Highly recommended.
Book Description
When Baby Bird hatches from his egg, his mother is off looking for food. What’s a bird to do? Go find his mother, of course! So begins Baby Bird’s hilarious, and at times very touching, hunt for his mother.
Children will love this deluxe cloth edition of P. D. Eastman’s all-time favorite. Soft and snuggly pages, complete with an adorable plush baby bird, let children interact with each wonderful character our little hero meets as he asks again and again, “Are you my mother?”
Customer Reviews:
are you my mother review.......2007-07-06
the book is nice, and i remember it well from growing up. but it's too much for a toddler. it should have an age limit on it, and it shouldn't be any less than 3.
my baby loves this cloth book.......2005-03-27
My six-month-old son loves this book. It is a wonderful stroller toy because it keeps him occupied for a long time. The cover is soft and snuggly; plus, the baby bird can be put in different little pockets throughout the book--so my two-year-old daughter loves to "read" this book to the baby.
One caveat: because it's so plush we let our son play with it in his crib and he got the string loosely wrapped around his neck. He's fine, and he still loves the book, but I certainly wouldn't let him play with it unsupervised again.

Customer Reviews:
Adequate translation of a classic.......2005-01-01
This is the same translator responsible for the dreadful Spanish version of The Cat in the Hat. His style of unimaginative transliteration, however, works much better for P.D. Eastman's simple, plain, prose than for Dr. Seuss' elaborate rhymes. He does manage to screw up the classic line "You are not my mother, you are a snort!", but most of the rest of the original comes through okay. Not quite as enjoyable to read aloud in Spanish as in English, but still fun.
Great book for spanish students!.......2000-09-03
I am a Spanish teacher and use "Eres tú mi mamá because the book is a great review for the preterite, imperfect and future. I have lessons designed for the verb grammar and my students really have fun reading a childhood story in Spanish that is so familiar to them in English. So if you want a fun way to review the past verb tenses and the future use this book and its video.
A Classic , Must read aloud book for Pre-K children........1999-11-06
This is a particularly excellent book for young children just beginning school (Pre-K). It's a must "read aloud" book which all children love. Children easily relate to "loosing their mother" and crying with the baby bird "Where is my mother". There's lots of repetition which children need at this age and they enjoy repeating the phrases...the cat is not his mother, the dog is not his mother etc. It has all the necessary elements of a quality picture book...childrens' interests, repetition of key phrases, large interesting pictures and emotional content.

Lullaby for baby.......2006-11-04
This is the BEST book someone gave me after my son was born! The book has songs to sing to familiar toons and gives you a guide in the back. This has always worked at getting baby to sleep and now I can quote the book.
I often give this at any baby shower now that I know about it.
One of my favorite baby-toddler books.......2006-08-11
This is one of my very favorite books from the baby and preschool years. My daughter is 7 years old now, and I just came across "If You Were My Bunny" again while picking out baby shower presents for my best friend. "If You Were My Bunny" sets new poems to old lullaby tunes. The illustrations are charming, the length is just right, and it makes a perfect bedtime ritual. This is a special and memorable book.
A wonderful bedtime or anytime book to share with your little one(s)..........2005-10-27
We've had this book as part of our bedtime routine for years. All three of our younger boys truly enjoy the story - especially since it is set to various tunes of familiar lullabies.
The illustrations set the stage for some interactive conversations with the boys while the songs engage them. It is a truly interactive book for everyone.
This book has certainly become a special keepsake for our family and we'll be keeping this board book to share with our grandchildren.
Our favorite book.......2005-10-26
I found a copy of this book while I was pregnant and just picked it up without really looking at it. What wonderful luck as this has been one of our absolute favorites (which says a lot, considering that we easily have over 200 children's books)! We've even had to replace it because we literally wore it out!
I've read this book to my daughter literally since the day she was born. I'm the "singer" in our family and this book is perfect, with its combination of prose and song. It's one of our favorite bonding activities. Now, at age two and a half, my daughter "reads" the book herself, singing the little songs.
In response to others who say that this book perpetuates the concept that only mothers love their children, I have to disagree. This book simply focuses on a mother's love. The song about the ducks specifically mentions that Daddy is near, protecting the family. In our family, we have an equal number of books that focus on a father's love as those that focus on a mother's love. This book happens to be one of the books that my daughter asks for on the nights I read her a bedtime story; on the nights that my husband is the storyteller, she tends to choose one of the daddy books. Don't fault the book for having a focus; instead, build a balanced library for your children. We are particularly fond of "Guess How Much I Love You" to show a father's love.
If you enjoy singing to your child and want an excellent addition to your bedtime ritual, get this book. You won't regret it.
Wonderful memories. Wonderful gift........2005-07-03
I received this book as a gift when my daughter was born, and it has given us many special moments. Reading about each animal and then having a coordinating lullaby is wonderful... babies don't care that Mom's off-key! When it was time to buy a book for a baby shower I attended recently, my (now 7 yr-old) daughter and I KNEW we wanted to get "If You Were My Bunny" but couldn't find the book in the stores. Thrilled to find it online. Now our friend and her baby can enjoy the same rocking-chair tenderness.
Book Description
Every child is special. And every child deserves to be recognized for what makes him or her unique. In these creative and heartwarming books, birth order guru, Dr. Kevin Leman, and his artist son, Kevin Leman II, follow up on their new birth order series for children. Following My Firstborn, There's No One Like You, these next two books in the series continue using birth order principles to convey love, acceptance, and a sense of individuality to the middle and youngest child in the family. These books will be enjoyed by parents and children, alike.
Customer Reviews:
Too Stereotyped.......2005-09-14
I am a psychologist and bought all 3 books in the series when my son's wife gave birth to his 3rd child. I didn't preview it before I read these books to the oldest as well as to newly deemed "middle child." I was disapointed and a bit apologetic to their parents when we all read it together. These children knew the message(s) in the book were related to them. I felt that since they are so young, they were getting a message about how they were going to (or should) turn out. Also, there were references to Christmas and I felt this didn't leave room for people who celebrate other holidays than those. I thought the concept of the book was good. From the title, I was mainly interested in the message that the mother loves all three of her children, recognises differences, but loves them just the same. I wish the author would have just adhered to that theme and left the predictions about their personalities and behavior out of it. [...]
Raising a youngest child..........2005-07-12
is fun, and hard on the heart. She/he is the last "first" of everyone.
The book has great illistrations and is cute to read!
We love Dr. Kevin Leman's books!

Third Fable for Our Times by Carol Lynn Pearson shows the love and bond that is eternal between a mothers and daughters.
Customer Reviews:
a gift to give your daughter, and for daughters to give moms.......2007-06-11
A book that shows the mom or daughter in your life that there is a special bond -even among the differences.
CHARMING!.......2004-05-17
My mom and I, unfortunately, do not see eye-to-eye..... yet this book made each of us choke up. It's a keeper.
For anyone with a daughter, read with a tissue!.......2003-03-25
My mother has always loved books by Carol Lynn Pearson; I think one reason is that she named her daughters Lynne & Carol (and we used to be Pearsons)! By far, this is my favorite Pearson book. Recommended by an Amazon friend, I bought this book for my mother who has always lived thousands of miles from me. As luck would have it, my daughter was visiting me when I started reading this lovely little story. From the very beginning, I knew this book was written about us. The tears started flowing on the first page and didn't stop until the last page of this poignantly written "Fable For Our Times." WILL YOU STILL BE MY DAUGHTER? is actually a parable about an acorn that falls from a beautiful, strong oak. The oak loves her daughter and wants to protect her from pain and disappointment. However, as in real life, we can only hope that our children will have the strength (roots) to persevere.
There is a special bond between a mother and her daughter and this book celebrates that bond. You must read this beautiful keepsake with your daughter, especially if she is going through a difficult time. I now need to buy another copy of this book for my mother. I loved this touching tale and recommend it to all mothers. Put it somewhere handy so it can be read over and over!
Touching and True.......2002-04-24
I bought this book for my mom while on my first vacation away from her in California. I was 18 years old and for quite sometime had been struggling with her issues of letting go. Because of this book I finally understood that she was also struggling with having to let go and I learned to be a little more patient. I think she too realized that although she couldn't always protect me, I would still be her daughter.
The Perfect Mother-Daughter Gift.......2001-12-29
If you have a daughter, particularly one who is on the brink of womanhood and preparing to leave or has already left the nest, this is the perfect book to give her. In other words, if you have a daughter 18 or over, give her this book immediately. You may even want to read it with her, but be warned that you will both shed a joyful tear or two. This short, picture-book for adults tells the story of a mother and child and the lessons they learn. Sadly, even a mother's love cannot protect a child against all life's hardships, but the irrevocable truth still stands: there is no greater love than that of a mother for a daughter and the nurturing love that melds into true friendship as years go by is a shared gift. Treasure this little book as you read it for a few minutes with your own daughter, and hold its message in your heart forever.

Customer Reviews:
Disappointed.......2007-06-12
The book struck me as silly and it bored my 4-year old, who generally finds something of interest even in news articles! It is also overtly Christian, so if you don't want to send a message about Christian God, it's not appropriate. I returned it.
Middle Child Obstacles & Triumphs........2006-08-13
Each child is a unique individual in his own right, but let me tell you, birth order does matter -- a lot. The first child is the light in the parents' eyes and hearts. He is pampered, loved dearly, and protected from the harm others might inadverently cause to this special child. Every child is special not just those with disabilities. The middle child does okay until the youngest comes along, then is kinda left to defend for himself. He may become introverted and feel inferior and has to fight to prove his worth in other things such as sports. All of the attention is given to the youngest, and so the middle child is the so-called Wednesday's child.
I'll never forget this day in 1962. Zachary was born on this day; he was sensitive and easy to hurt. From his earliest years, he wrote stories and plays and enacted them with his GI Joes, Bat Monkey, and other toys as the family gathered to praise his efforts. He wrote and illustrated stories when he knew only phoenic spelling. Once in nursery school, he decided he had had enough and so his mother, working parttime for a local attorney, left her position to walk across the square to see what could be the matter. Zach was never a problem.
Sue Carr came to his rescue there with the preacher's wife who had no sensitivity and demanded they color within lines and not be individualistic. In the first grade, the roles were reversed when a mean-spirited teacher made Sue cry and he was her protector. Zach always felt second-best to his older brother (by a few months) and became a sport, playing little league, Pop Warner football -- as did Justin many years later. Right before he graduated from high school, Zach's picture was in the local paper blocking the player with the ball from the other team, and thus had his moment of fame.
And then, he was in college and worked hard at Belmont to prove what a good writer he was. Then he met Valerie and transferred to the town where she lived. They had a fancy wedding and things progressed as he earned his Master's Degree and his first job was in a prestigious university while she worked on her PhD in Political Science. After five years, they traveled to other colleges until Skylar, the youngest child of four, started school. Valerie took her first teaching job at a large university and prospered.
Life moved along, and the boys were known as creative and intelligent. Kaleena became an accomplished ballerina. Valerie had been a dance teacher for children before she went to college. Then, the tragic accident which took the oldest sons life. Zach was devasted this time for sure. Months have gone by with much emotional agony -- and things for Zach will never be the same. Happy Birthday, Zach. God is on your side. We must never give in to wishing things had been different as there is a time and place for everything. We don't know God's plan for us, but anything and every setback can be endured with honor and dignity. Life goes on, and we learn by the troubles and hurts along the way. It makes us more humble, like Chuck -- my, he must have been hurt a lot. Thank God, Zach who played the trombone in high school band like a pro, is not at all like his grandfather, Carl. Nor is he like his dad. Zach is an individual who will someday be a famous writer.
The story of a Southerner who failed in what he could have done, but the world does not end. Life is too short for stoping the train along life's journey. Follow it to the end and see what can be enjoyed along the way. It is a long, hard trail the middle child has to traverse, but in the end, he is the winner.
Raising a middle child..........2005-07-12
... is challenging. Making sure they know that they are not overlooked is difficult. This book does a great job for my middlechild. She knows she's loved because I got her a book. :)
WE LOVE Dr. Kevin Leman's books!

Have You Seen My Mother is Bryan Lee McGlothins own personal life story of abduction by his father and his life long search for his mother. His search ended in September 1997 when he was finally brought to a tearful reunion with his mother after being apart for more than 30 years. Since this moving, heartwarming reunion, Bryan commenced a seven-year journey searching through dusty courthouse records across the country, analyzing old personal letters, and conducting many family interviews cross-referencing stories, documents and photographs- with newly found family members from Tennessee to California to Washington State. These seven long, painful, heavy years of research have brought to light the lies and deceits of those who spun their web of treachery. After wading through accusations of child abuse, sexual abuse, and hired rapists, Bryan has finally put his story to paper and is ready to reveal his unbelievable account to our readers.

If ONLY.......2007-10-03
This is a very moving and thought provoking story. Bryan's delivery of his life story took a lot of effort and must have been emotionally draining on him as well. His story reveals what goes on behind closed doors, something I myself as a former 30 yr. veteran of the Jehovah's Witnesses (JW) was ignorant to because they keep everything secret. The sadest part of what this book reveals, is that the JW's elders are NOT qualified counselors and have no specialized training, yet they practice such and have contributed to the suffering of such innocent ones as Bryan and all in the name of their so called, Jehovah God who is actually the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society.
I read the book in 7 straight hours. You can't put it down.
I Could Not Put it Down.......2007-07-23
Although the story of what Bryan went through is devastating, the book is a fantastic read. I found it very eye-opening and humbling, as many of us take our childhood and parents for granted. I could not put it down. I commend Bryan for the courage and inner strength he found to tell his story. I hope there are more books to come written by this talented author.
A Compelling Memoir.......2006-04-08
Bryan Lee McGlothin compelling memoir Have you seen my mother? is the heart-breaking story of one man's quest for love, truth and acceptance. The contrast between the behaviour of both of his parents is most telling. The father professes to be Christian but kidnaps young Bryan from the loving arms of his mother, slandering her in the eyes of the world but more important, in the heart and mind of her love-starved and vulnerable son. The mother, heartsick and desperate in her unsuccessful search for Bryan, flounders mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. While the father "progresses" in his faith and in life, the mother spirals toward tragic circumstances.
Bryan's father's narcissistic selfishness and cruelty are all too familiar to this writer, but the roots of such evil are complex, never easily explained.
McGlothin does a commendable job setting forth his story in his quest for truth. What he discovers will break your heart. It might also educate and humble you.
A real Eye Openner!!.......2006-02-03
I could not put this book down! Jehovah Witnesses and non-Jehovah Witnessed could benefit from Bryan's heart breaking experience. We all take life, and being a parent for that matter, for granted sometimes. This book truely opens one's eyes to how easily we are manipulated by our social environment and how it molds us to the core...touching every cell of our being.
The lies and deception that Bryan experienced by being kidnapped from his own mother are devastating! The end results are heart-wrenching....
In It's Genre, It's In A Class By Itself.......2005-11-26
Like the author, Bryan Lee Mcglothin, I am a former Jehovah's Witness. Until I learned of Bryans experience as a child and as a JW, I thought my own experiences were hellish. I step aside for Bryan Mcglothin, for his experience is in a category by itself. That's not a positive thing for Bryan, but for us, his readers, it is assurance his book is an engrossing worthwhile read. This is the only book in its genre that would make an excellent movie. Read Have You Seen My Mother and see why!
You would also profit from reading Jehovah Unmasked, which is another solid nail in the Watchtower coffin.
