      Book Description

The editors and authors present a wealth of knowledge regarding the most relevant aspects in the field of MOS transistor modeling. The first chapter lays out the 2/3D process and device simulations as an effective tool for a better understanding of the internal behavior of semiconductor structures and this with a focus on high-voltage MOSFET devices. Subsequently, the mainstream developments of both the PSP and the EKV models are discussed in detail. These physics-based MOSFET models are compared to the measurement-based models which are frequently used in RF applications. The comparison includes an overview of the relevant empirical models and measurement techniques. The following chapters include SOI-specific aspects, modeling enhancement of small geometry MOSFET devices and a survey of quantum effects in devices and circuits. Finally, an explanation of hardware description languages such as VHDL-AMS and Verilog-A is offered and shows the possibilities of the practical implementation and standardization of the different modeling methodologies found in the preceding chapters.

The variety of subjects and the high quality of content of this volume make it a reference document for researchers and users of MOSFET devices and models. The book can be recommended to everyone who is involved in compact model developments, numerical TCAD modeling, parameter extraction, space-level simulation or model standardization. 4 out of 5 stars Technically Challenging.......2002-08-06

This book is not for the faint of heart.
It is a highly technical book and written only for those
        with experience in this field.
The book does not start out with basic definitions
and is written for individuals who have professional
        credentials in this particular industry.
Personally I look for a technical book to begin with
basic theory and then build from there with orderly
procedures and fully worked mathematical examples.
The author is a good communicator, however if you
are looking for basics in this field, it's a little
steep to try to start from this material.
If your a professional already working with
explosives in a research facility you will find this
book to be an excellent treatise. If like myself you
only have a passing interest and are looking for
general content, then this is not for you.
I was looking for information regarding pressure
relief for dust explosions inside production
vessels and purchased this book by mistake.

1 out of 5 stars No examples included.......2002-08-06

The book does not give any worked examples.

The mark of any good technical writer is
showing your work in detail, this book
leaves a lot to be desired.

I am trying to return the book to
        amazon.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Text Regarding Explosives.......2000-04-20

This book truly is the ultimate text for anyone who is interested in the workings and chemistry of everyday explosive devices. Although it is recommended that the reader have a high ranking background in this type of field, I must say that as a 15 year old rocket science enthusiast I found that comprehending the material provided by this text was a relatively easy task. I believe that if the reader has a strong interest in this type of field and/or in chemistry in general and has little difficulty understanding general chem concepts, that this book is probably for you.

However, I must confess that certain pieces of the work presented in this book are a little harder to understand than other sections. Such as the section that deals with fluid dynamics which I personely had a little more difficulty understanding. But, do not be intimidated for this is quite expected of the reader, any reader, even a scientist. One has to realise that this is a complicated field of interest, nevertheless, anybody who is dedicated to learning the science can understand it.

To me, this book was of great practicality when conducting my own reasearch and development of slightly modernized model rocket engines. It also played a big role in my science fair project when I used some of the general concepts in the book to provide explanations of how my modernized engine designs were more efficient than conventional mass manufactured engines.

All in all a great reference to have and cherish fit for anyone with an interest in the field of explosives, chemistry and physics.

        Book Description

Combustion is an old technology, which at present provides about 90% of our worldwide energy support. Combustion research in the past used fluid mechanics with global heat release by chemical reactions described with thermodynamics, assuming infinitely fast reactions. This approach was useful for stationary combustion processes, but it is not sufficient for transient processes like ignition and quenching or for pollutant formation. Yet pollutant formation during combustion of fossil fuels is a central topic and will continue to be so in the future. This book provides a detailed and rigorous treatment of the coupling of chemical reactions and fluid flow. Also, combustion-specific topics of chemistry and fluid mechanics are considered and tools described for the simulation of combustion processes.

The actual fourth edition presents a completely restructured book: Mathematical Formulae and derivations as well as the space-consuming reaction mechanisms have been replaced from the text to appendix. A new chapter discusses the impact of combustion processes on the earth’s atmosphere, the chapter on auto-ignition is extended to combustion in Otto- and Diesel-engines, and the chapters on heterogeneous combustion and on soot formation appear heavily revised.

        4 out of 5 stars Useful book.......2007-08-17

This book is not a complete guide but is a good self-learning help.
It can be also used as a quick reference.
A good starting point for combustion studies. Then other books are required if complete treatment is required.
Small but nice part of useful mathematics in appendix. Not a rigorous treatment but quick explanation of some topics related to CFD.

4 out of 5 stars Combustion modeling review.......2000-04-08

This is a very good book. It format is very succictinct and as such spares no space for unecessary content. This give the narrative a somewhat terse style. It must be remembered that the science of combustion wrestles with some formidable concepts; such as turbulent flow, reduced reaction mechanisms for complex chemical reactions, fluid flow and heat transfer. This is not a book for those who are easily frightened by close typed differential equations. This book however, is an excellent introduction to the science of combustion, and contains a detailed and upto date biblography, pointing the interested reader in the right direction. It also contains one of the most complete tables of kinetic data for combustion reactions, I have seen in published literature. My one regret is that there is no companion volume of solved examples that could be used by an unassisted, but interested student. Read in conjunction with Smith/Missen, computation of chemical equilibrium, and Anderson's excellent introduction to Computational fluid dynamics, and the world of this facinating and most important field opens up.
