Book Description

"Ordinarily, events that change our path are impersonal affairs, and yet extremely personal. My teacher, don Juan Matsus, said this is guiding me as his apprentice to collect what I considered to be the memorable events of my life…. Don Juan described the total goal of the shamanistic knowledge that he handled as the preparation for facing the definitive journey: the journey that every human being has to take at the end of his life. He said that what modern man referred to vaguely as life after death was, for those shamans, a concrete region filled to capacity with practical affairs of a different order than the practical affairs of daily life, yet bearing a similar functional practicality. Don Juan considered that to collect the memorable in their lives was, for shamans, the preparation for their entrance into that concrete region, which they called the active side of infinity."

In this book written immediately before his death, anthropologist and shaman Carlos Castaneda gives us his most autobiographical and intimately revealing work ever, the fruit of a lifetime of experience and perhaps the most moving volume in his oeuvre.

5 out of 5 stars To Carlos, with gratitude.......2007-06-22

Carlos Castaneda was one of the most controversial writers of the twentieth century. Some in academia branded him a fraud for claiming his stories were biographical rather than fiction, while lauding him as a great novelist for exposing a mass audience to otherwise inaccessible philosophical abstractions they claimed were largely plagiarized. Each of his works is a piece of a larger puzzle, which makes it impossible to critique any one book without addressing the larger context into which it fits.

His first two books, "Teachings of Don Juan" and "A Separate Reality" describe experiences induced by ingesting psychotropic hallucinogenics prepared by a Yaqui Indian shaman from Sonora, Mexico he called don Juan Matus, and accounted for his becoming a guru to a generation seeking short cuts to spiritual enlightenment, as well as his lifelong interest in the relationship between perception and reality, a theme now explored in many popular books on consciousness and quantum physics. Unfortunately, these books remain his best selling works, in spite of Castaneda refuting their importance in his later works. Readers would be best served to skip these and avoid the risk of being turned off to Castaneda and missing the more stimulating works that followed.

His third and fourth works were "Journey to Ixtlan" and "Tales of Power." In Ixtlan he admits to over-estimating the value of his drug experiences, which caused him to overlook the more profound teachings of don Juan which became the focus of future writings. What emerges is a spiritual discipline dating back to the Pre-Colombian Toltec sorcerers of Latin America, culminating with don Juan's departure from our world, effectively ending Castaneda's direct affiliation.

In his fifth and sixth works "Second Ring of Power" and "Eagles Gift" Castaneda suffers strange flashbacks of what seem to be memory fragments of events he is unable to fit into any logical time sequence. In his seventh and eighth works, "Fire From Within" and "Power of Silence," Castaneda succeeds in reconstructing his lost memories, which derive from teachings previously administered by don Juan while Castaneda was in a "heightened" state of awareness.

In books nine and ten, "Art of Dreaming" and "Active Side of Infinity," Castaneda focuses on what he describes as inorganic predators from another dimension, some having the power to imprison humanity in "ordinary reality" so they can feed on the dark emotional energies we produce when succumbing to the negative thoughts they insert into our minds.

In later years several seemingly substantiating works appeared by two of Castaneda's female apprentices, Taisha Abelar and Florinda Donner-Grau. In addition, two scathing exposés were also published by two of his ex-wives. The first, "Magical Journey with Carlos Castaneda" by first wife, Margaret Runyon, offers little corroboration, since her marriage pre-dates the time when the bulk of Castaneda's adventures were claimed to have occurred. While steadfast that Castaneda was a sorcerer, she doubts the existence of don Juan, even claiming authorship of many of the concepts Castaneda ascribed to him.

The second, and more credible work, is "Sorcerer's Apprentice," by well-known writer Amy Wallace, daughter of the late best selling novelist Irving Wallace. Here again, we find little corroboration since the time of the events she describes is well after the period when Castaneda's relationship with don Juan is alleged to occur. What the book does provide is a troubling look inside Castaneda's final years, a picture of descent into what seems sexual addiction and possibly madness, leaving one to wonder if Castaneda was just one cup of cool-aid short of a Jonestown.

Many have asked why I put any stock whatsoever in Castaneda. A story from my autobiography, "The Vortex" may shed some light. A year before Castaneda published his first book I had an experience that would remain a mystery until Castaneda published "Power of Silence" twenty years later.

For a brief time, in my youth, I became a practicing Muslim, meticulously performing the complex prayer ritual five times a day. Then one night, sitting in my car, frustrated and complaining at not being able to find the address of my next sales appointment, something inside me snapped. It was as if some part of me had disconnected from my body and assumed control, lecturing me about my lack of discipline. A profound calm settled over me, rendering me simultaneously detached and engaged. For two days my sales figures soared. It was as if no one could say no to me. On the evening of the second day I decided to put my new state of being to the acid test by visiting my parents. Their behavior was so uncharacteristically supportive I hardly recognized them. It was enough to convince me that I was now living in an altered reality. But by the following morning I had returned to "normal." So distracting had this event been that I completely forgot to perform my Muslim prayers, and in fact, never did so again.

Twenty years later, in a chapter of "Power of Silence" entitled "Place of No Pity" Castaneda describes a very similar experience. In the aftermath of the event don Juan explains that humans are like televisions stuck on a channel called "self-preoccupation," lacking the energy to tune into any of the vast array of other channels available to us. To change channels, he explains, we first need to accumulate energy, by practicing rituals that are deliberate, precise and repetitious. Do this long enough and eventually our stored energy precipitates a shift to a channel where self-importance and self pity become impossible. Once this happens we connect with the force that controls the entire universe, a force don Juan called "intent," and everything can be bent to our will and even more channels can be opened, assuming we remember to keep practicing the rituals that save our energy.

This one realization alone was enough to inspire me to dedicate my autobiography "To Carlos, with gratitude."

5 out of 5 stars The master gives his all. .......2007-01-10

You have to read all the previous works to see how simple it is, otherwise you miss the profundity. He could have been a trickster at one point, but that ws long ago. Don't even dream of starting Castaneda with these later books. Take the time to ground yourself with his earlier works.

5 out of 5 stars Carlos Castaneda's "Active Side of Infinity".......2007-01-04

This is a wonderful book giving many details not chronicled in his previous books of his encounters with his guide don Juan Matus. He wrote this book just before his death, and it gives the reader a great inside glimpse or more into his mind-set at that point in his enlightenment process. Much of what he details in this book happened much earlier in his process. I truly enjoyed reading this and all of the other books I have previously read that he wrote earlier, but this book is one that I intend to keep for further reference and rereading.

5 out of 5 stars enthralling.......2006-06-04

After reading all Castaneda's other works, this one seems to tie them all together in a most favorable way. Read start to finish, randomly, backwards or just a bit at a time. All of Don Juan Matus' remarks are truly magical.

5 out of 5 stars The Active Side of Infinity.......2006-03-16

I have read and enjoyed all of the books written by Carlos Castaneda, with the exception of The Second Ring of Power. However, for the first time, in his book The Active Side of Infinity, I felt that Carlos Castaneda was revealing more about himself, than he had ever done in any of his previous works. I found this book to be an excellent synopsis of his life both before his apprenticeship and during his apprenticeship with don Juan. If you, like me, have been bedazzled by all of the information contained in his earlier works, you will find this a marvellous book for consolidating much of the information that you have read but not truly internalised.

Book Description

In Infinity and the Mind, Rudy Rucker leads an excursion to that stretch of the universe he calls the "Mindscape," where he explores infinity in all its forms: potential and actual, mathematical and physical, theological and mundane. Rucker acquaints us with Gödel's rotating universe, in which it is theoretically possible to travel into the past, and explains an interpretation of quantum mechanics in which billions of parallel worlds are produced every microsecond. It is in the realm of infinity, he maintains, that mathematics, science, and logic merge with the fantastic. By closely examining the paradoxes that arise from this merging, we can learn a great deal about the human mind, its powers, and its limitations.

Using cartoons, puzzles, and quotations to enliven his text, Rucker guides us through such topics as the paradoxes of set theory, the possibilities of physical infinities, and the results of Gödel's incompleteness theorems. His personal encounters with Gödel the mathematician and philosopher provide a rare glimpse at genius and reveal what very few mathematicians have dared to admit: the transcendent implications of Platonic realism.

1 out of 5 stars Misleading.......2007-06-20

Rucker had finished writing this by June 19, 1981, as his preface says. Yet, he has the naivete (or perhaps the gall) to say something inane like "Set theory is, indeed, the science of the Mindscape. A set is the form of a possible thought." on p. 41. Since Zadeh published his landmark "Fuzzy Sets" paper in 1965, and Black and others had written similar ideas years earlier, along with multivalued logicians like Lukasiewicz developing possibly infinite-valued logics as far back as the 1920s, one would think that Rucker would be informed or wise enough than such statements. It appears otherwise. I find it curious that Rucker also knew Godel who did work in multivalued logics, but basically Rucker doesn't acknolwedge multivalued logics as even possible forms of thought.

As for the comments about Mr. Rucker qualifying as an intellectual descendent of Hegel, they simply don't hold water. Rucker denies the property of contradiction (it is not the case that A and not A hold). Hegel accepted it and sought some other way to do logic than Aristotle's logic.

5 out of 5 stars Reclaiming the Greek Heritage: A Modern Mathematical Philosophy.......2006-06-30

Rudy Rucker deals with the concept of Infinity in regard to our mental conceptions and the structure of reality. The question is whether or not the concept of Infinity makes sense, and then the relation of finite thought and human consciousness relates to the possibility of infinites in the structure of reality.

Rucker is a professor of Calculus and centres this discussion in the History of Mathematical stemming form the ancient Greeks. For the Greeks there was no distinction between mathematics and philosophy. He takes a mathematical approach, but converses fluently in the disciplines of Quantum Physics and Philosophy.

I classified this book as Epistemology (the Philosophy of Knowledge) because the central concept is the meaning and definition of Human Consciousness. In this regard Rucker probes the meaning of consciousness and the relationship of the individual mind to the concept of Universal Mind.

The title includes Infinity, because the investigation considers all aspects of the ultimate or Absolute. So at the root of this is the question of whether it makes sense for anything to be Infinite. Is there such a thing as Infinity? Are there multiple infinities? Involved is the question of whether the human mind can conceptualize an infinite thought, or is every human thought a finite thought?

The reason this is a question of Epistemology is that one must consider how we know, and what a finite mind can know. Thus Rucker looks at the question in terms of many disciplines of knowledge. Basically, we are asking whether it is possible for something in the universe (one mind, and its thoughts) to know the Absolute or Ultimate reality, of which it is a part!

Another term for the discipline commonly dealing with this problem is Theory of Mind. Rucker I have not looked at the concepts of Theory of Mind and the Philosophical question of the Absolute and the One-Many debate in a mathematical perspective before. This latter entails the concept of whether there is some ultimate unity to the universe, including the recent question of multiple universes, and whether the Absolute is sentient, as an active God or relatable entity.

Rucker points out that any ultimate question, posed in terms mathematical, theological or otherwise, is a mystical question. He references concepts of Zen Buddhism as well as classical Western Philosophy and Christian theology. He lays a firm foundation for the problem in a historical format by reviewing the ancient Greek concepts.

I had never looked at these questions from a mathematical approach. His discussion of set theory helps to see the issues involved in considering whether humans, as finite entities, can conceptualize the ultimate. He deals with the relationship between thoughts and concepts and the external objective world. Set theory and its refinements, which Rucker discusses in terms of the history of their development, provide a way of objectively evaluating whether there can be infinite.

Rucker lays out the formulas in geometry and calculus, but discusses the implications from practical and theoretical perspectives in science and theology. I did not campout in the mathematical formulas, but could generally follow the arguments. But the philosophical implications and the factors discussed in the practical and theoretical scientific disciplines was very helpful. Rucker uses very practical life-situations and analogies to provide a reality for these concepts, which can seem ethereal and abstract.

One of the practical aspects is a whole chapter critically evaluating ideas of Artificial Intelligence, "Robots and Souls." He asks whether an artificial intelligence can become self-developing to the stage comparable to human consciousness. He ruminates on the relationship of artificial intelligences to human consciousness.

Rucker reviews the creative and ground-breaking theories and writings of Kurt Gödel, a mathematical philosopher in the 20th century. Gödel conclusively established the concept of Infinity. Rucker reports on personal discussions he had with Gödel, who was a mystic and philosopher. They discussed the concept of Universal Mind and the existence of mind beyond body.

It was also interesting to see this perspective on the Theory of Mind, various concepts of the Absolute, and critical analysis of the possibilities and limitations of human conception, as written almost 25 years ago, and see that most of what is known and considered now was active knowledge back then. The critical analysis Rucker provides was helpful for a fresh perspective on the methods mathematics brings to metaphysics involved now in Particle Physics and the Cosmogony now entailed by Theoretical physics on the astronomical level.

5 out of 5 stars This review is not true........2005-09-08

This book is spooky! I love it! The infinite is such a fascinating topic. I contemplate it on a daily basis and wrestle with some of its concepts almost constantly. This book is a must read for anyone who has ever wanted to know more on this subject. Robot conciousness is an incredible topic and really makes one think about what conciousness really means. Some of the concepts are difficult to relate to, but give it time and open your mind. If I could, I would give this book infinity - 1 stars!

5 out of 5 stars At the intersection of parallel lines..........2003-06-05

Rudy Rucker, son of a cleric and mathematics whiz kid, produced this book on `Infinity and the Mind' years ago, but reading and re-reading it, I continue to get insights and the chance to wrap my mind around strange concepts.

`This book discusses every kind of infinity: potential and actual, mathematical and physical, theological and mundane. Talking about infinity leads to many fascinating paradoxes. By closely examining these paradoxes we learn a great deal about the human mind, its powers, and its limitations.'

This book was intended to be accessible by those without graduate-level education in mathematics (i.e., most of us) while still being of interest to those even at the highest levels of mathematical expertise.

Even if the goal of infinity is never reached, there is value in the journey. Rucker provides a short overview of the history of 'infinity' thinking; how one thinks about divinity is closely related often, and how one thinks about mathematical and cosmological to-the-point-of-absurdities comes into play here. Quite often infinite thinking becomes circular thinking: Aquinas's Aristotelian thinking demonstrates the circularity in asking if an infinitely powerful God can make an infinitely powerful thing; can he make an unmade thing? (Of course, we must ask the grammatical and logical questions here--does this even make sense?)

Rucker explores physical infinities, spatial infinities, numerical infinities, and more. There are infinites of the large (the universe, and beyond?), infinities of the small (what is the smallest number you can think of, then take half, then take half, then take half...), infinities that are nonetheless limited (the number of divisions of a single glass of water can be infinite, yet never exceed the volume of water in the glass), and finally the Absolute.

`In terms of rational thoughts, the Absolute is unthinkable. There is no non-circular way to reach it from below. Any real knowledge of the Absolute must be mystical, if indeed such a thing as mystical knowledge is possible.'

At the end of each chapter, Rucker provides puzzles and paradoxes to tantalise and confuse.

* Consider a very durable ceiling lamp that has an on-off pull string. Say the string is to be pulled at noon every day, for the rest of time. If the lamp starts out off, will it be on or off after an infinite number of days have passed?

Rucker explores the philosophical points of infinity with wit and care. He explores the ideas behind and implications of Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem, and leads discussion and excursion into self-referential problems and set theory problems and solutions.

He also discusses, contrary to conventional wisdom, the non-mechanisability of mathematics. We tend to think in our day that mathematics is the one mechanical-prone discipline, unlike poetry or creative arts and more 'human' endeavours. But Rucker discusses the problems of situations which require decision-making and discernment in mathematical choices that no machine can (yet!) make.

* Consider the sentence S: This sentence can never be proved. Show that if S is meaningful, then S is not provable, and that therefore you can see that S must be true. But this constitutes a proof of S. How can the paradox be resolved?

This is a beautifully complex and intriguing book on the edges of mathematics and philosophical thinking, which is nonetheless accessible and intellectually inviting. You'll wonder why math class was never this fun!

5 out of 5 stars a mind-blowing trip to the infinite.......2002-12-09

What is infinity? How do we train our minds to understand the idea? This one of the hardest questions to answer for non-professional mathematicians, and one that Rucker address superbly - and, believe it or not entertainingly in this excellent book. And once you think you grasped that, how about a higher level infinity? Next one? Infinite series of higher level infinities? Sound very scary, and it is. It takes an amazing capacity to explain these concepts to a (relative) layman, and Rucker has it in abundance. An exhilarating intellectual tour de force, perhaps comparable to climbing mount Everest - infinite number of times, with deep philosophical, and perhaps, religious connections, presented in a light, funny, and yet rigorous manner. The book also provides a history of the concept of the infinite, and interesting people who developed it. A must read for a curious mind.

5 out of 5 stars To tell the truth..........2004-07-18

Raymond Smullyan has been described (by Martin Gardner, no less) as the most entertaining logician ever (lets leave aside the lack of competition here -- after all, Kurt Godel wasn't known to be a bundle of laughs, etc. ...). One of the points of logic is to figure out what lines of reasoning make sense, and what can be considered true and false, given the proper rules of rational thought and the right information.

This can be done by means of equations, symbolic expressions and linguistic tools, but this can be rather dry. A much more enjoyable means of learning to apply logical principles is through the kinds of puzzles presented by Smullyan. It is somewhat ironic -- story problems are the point of greatest dread among many mathematics students, yet the logic-equivalent of story problems are the most fun!

Smullyan has written several books on logic puzzles, and often starts with the device of puzzles with figuring out who is telling the truth and who is lying -- here it starts on the island of Knights and Knaves, where Knights always tell the truth, and Knaves always tell lies. However, apart from this distinction, it is impossible to tell them apart. Smullyan presents the problems, and then presents the solutions, not in the back of the book or in a footnote, but as part of the narrative. It is a very natural and logical progression.

In this logic-puzzle-story, Smullyan introduces the Sorcerer, not really a magician, but someone so skilled in logical thought that he is considered a magical figure. He leads the path across the novel, including what Smullyan describes as a 'guided tour of infinity' -- it is here that Cantor (from the title, the mathematician George Cantor) is brought up. If you think all infinities are equal, guess again. If you think all mathematical infinities add up to the same, or have the same properties, you'd be wrong. But how can this be proved?

Smullyan ends the book with a story of one of Cantor's students outsmarting Satan, relying on language and set theory to confuse the naming of a set in a clever bargain.

The book is a wonderful romp through logic, set theory, and rational thinking. It is not a simple book -- there are a number of places where equations and symbol logic methods are used; having at least a basic knowledge of algebra and elementary logic will make this book much more fun and accessible. However, many of the puzzles rely on common sense kinds of logic.

It is quite fun. Don't be a knave; read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps Smullyan's best.......2002-04-22

A highly enjoyable book of mathematical puzzles and ideas. Overall I think this is the best of the books by Smullyan I have seen, as the narrative (hardly a story, but a narrative of discussions which introduce and explain ideas) is very readable. Smullyan uses this technique in several other books but often one gets a sense that there is only a little narrative to connect much hard stuff - here the maths is interwoven into the narrative in a way that makes it much easier to follow (for example, the characters make various comments and objections which the central character, the Sorcerer, responds to as if engaged in an informal tutorial).

5 out of 5 stars Satan, Cantor, and Infinity - a novel about set theory.......2001-12-07

Professor Smullyan's book Satan, Cantor, and Infinity, is an excellent mathematical novel, extremely readable for everybody from elementary schoolboys(girls) to first class college (university) students. The story concerns three major personalities - The Sorcerer living in the Knight-Knave Island and Princess Annabelle with her suitor. As in many books of professor Smullyan the first half of the story is devoted to various puzzles about knights (truth-tellers) and knaves (liars). The third chapter takes place on the island of robots. The puzzles of self-constructive and self-destructive robots throw light on problem of languages, which allow self-reference, and the famous Gödel's theorems. This chapter may be harder to catch and the reader is recommended to consult another professor Smullyan's book, Forever Undecided. In the rest of the book are introduced Zeno's paradoxes concerning the problem of continuity and change (with these paradoxes are discussed the most elementary ideas of infinitesimal calculus), envelope paradox (a kind of paradox of rationality), ant the set-theoretic paradoxes (Burry's paradox, Mannoury's paradox, Russell's paradox and Cantor's paradox). The basic ideas of set theory are introduced in the form of problems of a prisoner in the Hell - Satan gives the prisoner opportunity to save himself(herself) if he(she) puzzles out an integer which Satan wrote on the paper closed in an envelope. Story also introduces the famous Continuum problem - the set theoretic problem formulated by the founder of set theory Georg Cantor in the 19th century and unsolved to our times (or at least unsolved by the more modest set theoretic principles not using some hypotheses concerning large cardinals). The story concludes with a nice Zwicker's hypergame paradox and a legend about a gifted student of Cantor imprisoned in Hell, who outwits the Great Satan. The entire book is written in non-technical style and really is a MATHEMATICAL NOVEL, maybe a mathematical fairy tale, not a textbook. (I would only like to know if professor Smullyan is really going to fulfill his promise given in the book that he will try to present more calculus ideas in the future.) Well, the book is very delightful reading for these days - the Good defeats the Evil even in this story, even in the realm of mathematics!

5 out of 5 stars The best logic puzzles you will find.......2000-11-19

Before you start reading this book, prepare to have your logic bone tweaked, tickled and annoyed. There is no one better than Raymond Smullyan at creating logic puzzles that will intrigue, infuriate and stretch your mind to slightly beyond its limits. The last chapter, a dialog between Satan and a student of Cantor, could be the basis of a book and is a true work of genius. I read it twice, not because I didn't understand it, but because I enjoyed it so much.
The other sections of the book cover many facets of logic, including lists of superb problems about people from the planet Og, where green northerners always tell the truth and red northerners always lie. However, green southerners always lie and red southerners always tell the truth. Similar to the knights and knaves problems, most can be solved using a simple table. Solutions to the problems are given at the end of each chapter.
Raymond Smullyan seems to exist at a different logical level than the rest of us. His problems are at times fiendishly clever, although not beyond the capacity of someone willing to think a bit. This is a case where you can expand your mind by showing how limited it was before.

5 out of 5 stars Extremely interesting if you love logic puzzles.......1999-09-30

This is a VERY good book some puzzles are easier and some harder, but all of them have an answer. hours of fun! when you are done go back and see if you can do some of the harder puzzles without peeking at the answer.

Book Description

This is the book that lays out the capabilities of a spiritual being. Here is Scientology explained in the broader sphere of existence beyond aberration. This is where L. Ron Hubbard gets down to the fundamentals of a being with his native state capabilities operating in, and in contest with, the physical universe. Here is his discovery of the one factor which exceeds existence itself.

These are the laws of life stripped from the very fabric of the physical universe and laid down for anyone who wants to regain his true beingness and the ability that is natively his. Scientology 8-8008 begins the road to higher states of existence.

4 out of 5 stars An interesting book inspired by Aleister Crowley........2005-07-22

With pretense that would make P.T. Barnum blush, L. Ron Hubbard presents 22 famous names as sources of inspiration of this book. Its first few pages reveal only one debt of inspiration, to the late English Magician, self-proclaimed "Beast 666," Aleister Crowley.

In this text Hubbard denounces belief in God as a symptom of insanity, and presents Crowley's intriguing Cosmology as his own.

Imitating - but poorly - Crowley's "O.T.O.", he would, in a few years, initiate his own secret "O.T. levels," and use '8-8008' to entice the unsuspecting into believing his empty promises of creating a race of World-ruling 'Supermen'.

5 out of 5 stars Good, although advanced text.......2005-02-19

This is an advanced Scientology text; I don't recommend it for someone knew to the subject.

This book contains scales and data for use with other Scientology materials. While it is vital to advanced Scientology study, for the new Scientologist, I recommend "Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought" or "Scientology: A New Slant on Life" first.

For anyone familiar with the subject of Scientology, this book is a must read!

5 out of 5 stars Operating Manual for an Immortal Spiritual Being.......2002-01-23

What are the qualities and attributes and capabilities of the Human Spirit? What exactly is the Physical Universe? You were immensely powerful once, so what happened? How can you rise to greater heights of awareness and ability and once again become the YOU that you actually are? This book by L. Ron Hubbard embraces the essence of Scientology. You need this information.

Scientology 8-8008 was originally written by Hubbard in London in October 1952 as the textbook for an upcoming series of lectures which he delivered to students in Philadelphia in December of that year.

The title of this book, "Scientology 8-8008" is actually a formulaic/symbolic statement of the Goal of Scientology. Translated it means: "The attainment of Infinity by reducing the apparent infinity of the Physical Universe to "0" and then taking the apparent "0" value of one's own universe and increasing it to Infinity". (An "8" laid on its side is the symbol for infinity).

Scientology 8-8008 is the best book you will ever read on Spirituality and your Native Abilities. It really does contain the Truth that will set you Free.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for life awareness.......2000-02-08

This is not for someone that doesn't understand Scientology and propably wouldn't understand the theory behind this book either. But if you are looking for the answers to life and how you fit into things as such - not just assumptions and guess work - then this is the book for you.

It takes the dream like state of guessing and thinking that all those guys at the "top" or "authorities on the subject" should only know, to here it is - you have responsibility for what is put here and now and in how we live. You can either believe it's so or carry on in your dream states.

Really it is an eye opener for those who can clear up all the concepts and demonstrate for themselves how they apply to self!

5 out of 5 stars ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH THE SMARTS AND COURAGE TO FACE TRUTH.......1998-12-10

I have read this book a number of times since the 1960s. It contains more distilled truth about life and the spiritual nature and capabilities of people than you will find anywhere. You read it carefully, cosidering each line, and WOA! it dawns on you that what Mr. Hubbard says is TRUE with a capital T. But you have to have the courage to really look at what he says and the smarts to really grock exactly what he did say. Everyone you meet treats you like a hunk of meat. Like people all in cars with no consideration there even is a driver. This book adresses the driver! YOU, not the meat. You will be well rewarded with knowledge of your true potential and how to achieve it if you read this book.

3 out of 5 stars this book was disappointing.......1999-07-05

If you're looking for something practical, this book is not for you. Cathie spends most of his time relating different "harmonics" to each other without ever taking the time to explain the significance of the numbers or of the way he manipulates them. The book was interesting, no doubts there. But if you want information you can use in experiments of your own, then search elsewhere. This one is pure theory.

5 out of 5 stars Best book on developmental learning of the decade.......1999-03-29

Infinity Walk puts together everything you ever heard about left-brain/right-brain, learning problems, "difficult students" and offers explanations for some of the most perplexing issues in the classroom such as why your visual students won't do sketches of problems in math class. When the theory was field-tested, it worked.

5 out of 5 stars Toward A Unified Theory Of The Cosmos.......2006-03-13

Captain Bruce Cathie shows how HARMONICS - wave forms of light - and their interaction and resonance, form the basis or "matrix" of the universe. Advanced applications for space travel, "free" energy production and much more could be developed. An important book, filled with mathematical data and derivations to back up his case. He shows examples of how the ancients used this knowledge to design the Great Pyramid, the world grid system, and even the basis for the English system of measurement. He is convinced a secret group is utilizing this knowledge and purposefully keeping the world ignorant and backward. Based upon the impact this kind of advancement would have on the "profitable" fossil fuel monopoly, it's hard to argue with him. Carefully written for both the scientist and the layman, The Bridge To Infinity is a powerful and important book and ahead of its time. To those with a scientific background, it's a "must-read". To those without such a background, I say READ IT ANYWAY.

5 out of 5 stars More of Cathie's Energy Grid.......2000-04-29

All of Cathie's books are important, but this one gives important reinforcement to his early work, THE ENERGY GRID. He gives new information on the energy grid, plus analyses the harmonics of several free energy devices, and Tibetan levitation, Irish round towers and more. I highly recommend all his books.
