Customer Reviews:
Dr.Azeem Alam Khan.M.B.,B.S.,(QAU),M.ScDermatology(UK),FACP.......2001-06-11
I read this wonderful book today and find it simple, easy to read, color illustrations are there with the text.I have read this book during my Genitourinary Examination and found it very useful, this is the main reason that I bought this book.I recommend this book to all the doctors related to genitourinary medicine, dermatologists and venereologist. It is also useful for the G.P's and medical students so that they can get a basic idea about the sexually transmitted diseases and their presentations. At the end I would like to congratulate Dr.H.Hunter Handsfield on writing such a wonderful book.
Wonderful information.......2000-12-30
I believe this was a great book, it provided a lot of needed information on stds, the contraction of certain disease, etc. It was almost like a reference guide to me. It made me feel much better after i had gained all the needed knowledge. STD'S are one of those "quiet diseases", that nobody really talks about...However,you have to get your information from somewhere, right?....So why not get it from a reliable source with a huge layout of information.(even pictures) So, all in all i rate this book a 5, i doubt it could throughly describe std's any better then it did.

Book Description
The Third Edition of this user-friendly reference focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of oral manifestations of local or systemic diseases. It contains clear photographs on the clinical manifestations of oral diseases and is presented in an easy-to-navigate format. The concise presentation of oral pathologic conditions now includes an expansion in the self-assessment section, and continues its valuable features found in the glossary, self-test, diagnosis and management guide, and protocols.
Customer Reviews:
well organized, excellent layout.......2007-02-19
This atlas has the advantage of having sections based on the appearance of the lesions, thus giving you an easy way to look at a group of lesions as you are narrowing down your diagnosis. Each named lesion has a heading for description, etiology, typical visual clues, the differential diagnosis, diagnostic steps, treatment recommendations, suggested follow-up, clincial significance, and other useful clinical information. The photographs are clear and very descriptive.
Overall, this is an excellent reference text and it has the advantage of being remarkably reasonably priced considering the rest of the available options. It is also more user friendly and better organized as well. The spiral binding makes it easy to keep the book open while using it, and there are tabbed reference pages for the start of each section; the sections are white lesions, red lesions, ulcerated lesions, blistering/sloughing lesions, pigmented lesions, papillary lesions, and soft tissue enlargements. I returned the atlas that was required for my dental hygiene oral pathology class, and bought this one instead since it is the superior choice.
Good pictures.......2006-03-19
There are a lot of very helpful pictures and the summaries are good.
Textbook.......2005-09-26
It was exactly what i needed for school, in great condition. Great color photos!!
Excellent and very useful.......2003-04-06
I'm in family medicine and encounter oral pathology on a regular basis. This book can't be beat for the purpose of recognition and diagnosis of oral diseases. Excellent photographs and explanations cover the full gamut of pathology likely to be encountered, and arranged according to useful diagnostic schemes - by type, color, location, etc. Even contains an extensive quiz at the end to test your mastery. I liked it so much I bought another one for my dental hygienist wife (who also loves it).
Great for Students!.......2000-11-22
This book boasts 491 superb photos cleverly arranged to face the accompanying text. The explanations are not long and frightening but suitably succinct. You learn the presenting signs and symptoms, histology, disease progression, treatment options and likely prognosis; ideal for exam revision and coping with clinicians.
This book includes a short section on what is normal and normal variations present in the populations, which is particularly helpful especially for students who have only a limited clinical experience of what is normal. Diagrams with accompanying photos of clinical presentations and text explain diagnostic and descriptive terminology, aiding understanding of diagnoses and application of appropriate terms to clinical findings. The remaining chapters deal with the common oral diseases by anatomical landmarks (teeth, gingivae, tongue etc) and by colour changes (red, white, pigmented). Presenting and explaining conditions peculiar to the hard tissues, periodontal diseases, soft tissue lesions, benign and malignant neoplasms and oral manifestations of systemic diseases. The book includes a number of useful appendices. These include a translator for those common Latin abbreviations that leave us all clueless. The quick guide to the diagnosis and management of the most common oral lesions is excellent, I just wish that within the sections diseases were listed alphabetically and thus easier to find.
This book is an excellent aid to revision and includes a self-assessment quiz to help with exam preparation. It is also a handy guide for clinics, although it is too large to fit in a pocket and sneak onto clinic the size has allowed a much more practical and readable text. My copy is proving invaluable and is well thumbed, the cover is a little flimsy but can be easily transformed with some sticky back plastic and a bit of Blue Peter know how. This is a book I will continue to dip into

This one-of-a-kind book will become the standard color guide to disease diagnosis and pathogen identification for all golf course superintendents and turfgrass practitioners. No other book contains as many detailed color photographs of this quality. Numerous photographs of each disease are provided. The
Color Atlas of Turfgrass Diseases also includes step-by-step color photo guidance on diagnostic techniques for laboratory analysis that can be used by practitioners.
Customer Reviews:
Only in Japan.......2004-06-06
I bought this book hoping to increase my knowledge of turf grass disease identification. The book is very in depth and informative but most of the pictures are from golf courses in Japan. Since most of the disease I see is on residential properties, they dont look anything like the pictures in the book. Most of those were taken on putting greens on Japanese bent grass. Its a good book, but not if your working with tall fescue.

Customer Reviews:
excellent refrence source.......2006-01-19
I had the pleasure (and panic) of being trained under Mrs. O'Connor herself at Yale before she retired. This lady knows her stuff and has a slide collection that's incredible. We use this book in my lab all the time. Great photos. Highly reccomend!
Excellent Peripheral Blood Morphology Reference Book.......2004-04-01
This is an excellent reference book for those learning to evaluate peripheral blood smears. There are sections for each cell type that focus on morphological characteristics of each maturational stage utilizing written characteristics, photomicrographs and an illustrated line drawing that labels all of the distinguishing features. This is invaluable for the learner. There are also separate sections on comparative morphology, enabling the learner to distinguish cell types that are similar (blasts vs reactive lymphs for example). Examples of many RBC and PLT morphological variants are also noted.
I have used this book extensively for training of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Pathology Residents, and recommend it highly.
Excellent resource and instructional tool.......2000-05-23
This is one of the finest atlases of peripheral blood cells I've ever seen. The photomicrographs are clear and definitive and the verbal and visual comparisons to aid in differentiation are excellent. Well organized and easy to find what you are looking for. Because the author used actual photomicrographs rather than drawings, she put this atlas head and shoulders above the competition.
A Complete atlas of blood cells, A MUST!!.......1997-11-11
An outstanding book for differentiating between cell morophology in the maturation cycle. For Hematologist that read manual diffs. its a must!!

Handbook of Forensic Pathology, Second Edition
ASIN: 0849302781 |
Book Description
A male homicide victim with a shotgun blast to the chest. A female drug addict who has overdosed on crack cocaine. An elderly woman with deep stab wounds to the neck. A two-year-old motor vehicle accident victim with blunt head trauma. For forensic pathologists, police detectives, and crime scene investigators, dealing with death and injury is a daily routine. But even after investigating thousands of drownings, shootings, stabbings, electrocutions, overdoses, and traffic accidents, most professionals in the investigative fields still haven't seen it all. Originally published on CD-ROM, the Color Atlas of Forensic Pathology addresses much of the basic information which forensic pathologists and other investigators deal with on a day to day basis. Packed with 780 full-color, captioned photographs, this atlas examines everything from time of death and decomposition, to identification, to causes of death from blunt trauma, firearm injuries, asphyxia, cutting and stabbing injuries, and more. The atlas shows the various causes of death and injury with case -- "visuals" to help investigators understand the work they perform. Indeed, with its exhaustive coverage, the Color Atlas of Forensic Pathology will provide investigators with valuable insight into the many different causes of death and injury they must deal with and how the manners of death are diagnosed.
Customer Reviews:
Jay Dix's "Forensic Pathology: A Color Atlas" Delivers.......2007-01-03
As a make-up effects artist in the Indie horror film circuit, where quality is frequently diminished by a tight budget, I find Mr. Dix's atlas on the subject of Forensic Pathology to be an indispensable pictorial reference. The photographs presented on the CD-rom version, while explicit and unflinching, provide the realism necessary to take a low-budget production and give it the professional boost it needs in order to make it more marketable.
Worst book on the subject........2004-04-02
This was the worst purchase I have ever made. This is a poorly illustrated coffee table book on death. There is no educational value. Although it is obvious that the author (Jay Dix) had great cases during his career, they are very poorly photographed, and the publisher has done a pitiful job of reproducing them. If you have an interest in learning ANYTHING about the world of forensic pathology, this is NOT the book for you. At about a dollar per page, this book is not worth your time.
