Customer Reviews:
Best book for publishing scientific results.......2007-07-27
This is the all-in-one reference every newcomer (and experienced) researcher should read to learn how to effectively write scientific papers.
The writing style is extremely clear and concise, presenting the most important concepts and advices in a very straightforward way. Contents are organized in very short chapters, so you can immediately get the picture and start improving your skills. It also has many funny stories and comics that help you enjoy the reading.
In brief: if you want to master in good scientific papers, budget proposals, writing your doctoral thesis, good presentations... This should be your first choice.
Final note for non-native English speakers/writers like me: you will find invaluable references at the end of the book about how to use adequate connectors and expressions, as well as a whole chapter specifically devoted to how to write science in English as a second language.
Very helpful.......2007-05-28
I found this book to be very helpful and easy to read. Great index to find exactly what you need to reference fast. Definitely recommend if you need to write a manuscript or present your data.
How to Write & Publish . . ........2007-05-12
This is the best book I have ever read about writing and publishing scientific papers. I have all 6 editions and have used them over the years in a scientific communication course I teach to graduate students. The information is so practical, and the use of humor makes what can be a very dry, dull subject enormously entertaining. I recommend this book to anyone, regardless of scientific discipline, who has to publish research papers. The text is very simple and clear -- almost like reading a recipe.
How to Write and Publish a Scientific Paper: 6th Edition.......2007-03-09
I think this book is great even if you already have experience writing scientific papers and have published. It certainly opened my eyes to things I should keep in mind when writing for a journal. I'd recommend it to anybody. I'd also like to add that I am currently taking a scientific writing course and the professor mentioned that in his opinion, this is the best scientific writing book he has come across.
More than excellent!.......2006-12-20
I find this book, how to write and publish a scientific paper, is required for all scientists. The book simply covers everything that you need to communicate in scientific field. The book is well-written in rational order and provides answers for every question related to scientific communications. I do recommend also Scientific English by Dr. R. A Day along with this book.

Good, but missing something.......2004-09-02
This was good book that provides a framework for writing basic research papers. I hope that the next edition will have a section on graph or table presentations.
Review basing on the 1st edition.......2000-04-15
Even though I have not read this book, it should be an impropvement over the last editon. With an additional author, Cash Phyllis, in this second edition, this is a promising book. The 1st edition is simple, effective, and logically formatted. However, the unclear explanation of "Preparing the Documentation"(MLA + APA styles) may confused some readers. I hope this confusion was rectified in this 2nd editon. Overall, this is an exceptional reseaching manuel for high school + college students. The only thing stopped me from buying this book is that it was published before the publication of the "MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing" (April 1998). The "MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing" the the first book from MLA that contained the new MLA standards in documenting reseach paper especially online/ Internet documenting. To bad!
Great book to help you with papers!.......1998-08-23
This book totally helped me with my research papers. I would get it if you are in high school or collage. I would also get How to Write Short Stories!!

Book Description
No one can resist a love letter
Love letters are largely a lost and forgotten art. Not long ago suitors used the written word to work magic, and people were swept off their feet by a sweet, sincere note. How to Write a Love Letter teaches us, once again, how to reinvent this most meaningful of arts.
In today's rushed, individualistic society, love letters are more potent than ever before. They embody and convey the mysterious, the unexpected, and the most utterly thoughtful. A love letter can be anything--from a brisk, casual E-mail asking a love interest to coffee to a handwritten marriage proposal that will serve as a family treasure always. Fun, flirtatious, intimate, provocative--a love letter can be any and all of these things. Even the simplest letter can cause a stir.
Barrie Dolnick and Donald Baack have collected a wide range of letters--from old family keepsakes to casual and proper office E-mails. The authors demonstrate and explain, to both women and men, that writing a love letter is about turning sincere affection or intrigue into a unique, cherishable gesture, no matter how small the occasion or how short and uncomplicated the note.
Whether you're shy and have trouble expressing your feelings face to face, or you're a romantic at heart who wants to learn more effective ways to communicate, How to Write a Love Letter is your ultimate inspiration and guide. Go ahead. Fan the flames of a fledgling romance, or tell your husband of forty years that you still adore him as much as you did the day you first married him. Words are sexy, romantic, and wondrous. Letters are legacies. Learn the art today, and improve your life.
Julie,
My life is starting to become different, even if my days seem the same. And I must confess that it's you who has changed my outlook. You have opened my eyes to some amazing new possibilities. Your touch is so gentle, your kisses are so delicious, and your body is soft when it presses against me. I will forever be filled with a new sense of wonder and joy, because you have shared these things with me.
I must confess that in some ways I feel inadequate. Can I match your gentleness? Can I give any feeling as warm and secure as the one you have bestowed on me? You have chosen to show me such strong passion combined with such sweet affection, and I can only hope you feel a glimpse of the same from me.
Our time together is very special. There are very few moments that a man knows will linger with him for the rest of his life, and you have already given me many. Thank you for being such an extraordinary part of my life. I hope we will continue this journey together for a long time to come.
John
Customer Reviews:
This may be incredible if you started thinking yesterday........2005-07-28
However, for the rest of us this book is trite and overly simplistic. After reading through the entire book (and it's a very brief read) I can say that I gleaned, maybe, three or four decent ideas. Those ideas came from included sample letters though, and not the message of the book. You would probably be better off buying a collection of classic love letters and taking inspiration from them.
This book will be all but useless to everyone save a few well intentioned meatheads.
A great resource for romance!.......2001-02-19
HOW TO WRITE A LOVE LETTER is a great book for novices, but it's also a pretty good refresher for those of us who been together a long time, too!
My practically perfect spouse is an English teacher...I suggested he use this book next Valentine's Day in a writing exercise.
Pick up this book from amazon or the next time you're in a bookstore. Use it and see if your love life doesn't heat up a notch or two.
Enjoy!
Dear Barrie and Donald- I Love This Book.......2001-02-07
I bought it for my husband for Valentine's Day and it did the trick. I got a love poem in return. It's very interesting to analyze a purely emotional process. Buy one for every married and single person you know.
Long live romance.......2001-02-02
Who says that romance is dead? Certainly no one who has the pleasure to read this book. How To Write A Love Letter is a must-have for people who are in love, have loved, are loved, and/or who want to be loved.
This book is a real jump-start for putting romance back into relationships which may have suffered due to hectic lifestyles, telecommunications (or no communication!), and information overload. It harkens back to the age of Victorian romance, and proves that simple, heartfelt, truly loving gestures are still the surest way to your significant other's heart.
Book Description
The growth of the Internet, online journals, new software packages, computer networks â these and other facets of science writing can be found in the new edition of Robert A. Dayâs How to Write and Publish a Scientific Paper. Day has also expanded the section on poster preparation and presentation. The author helps good scientists become good writers by providing a practical guide to the process of writing, organising, illustrating, and submitting scientific research for publication in a scholarly scientific journal. The bookâs chapters are arranged according to the sequence of necessary steps for the submission and publication of a scientific paper. Day also discusses review writing, conference reports and theses, oral presentations, permissions and ethical issues, how to avoid jargon, and, finally, abbreviations and grammar. The book concludes with six appendices and a glossary of technical terms.

good book.......2006-03-23
im sure this book would be better if i actually used it; and i have a strong sense that I will in the near future.
Good shopping place for Books.......2005-08-11
Good Book for English scientific paper writing.
Safe and good web-shop.
International dilivery is not as quick as imagined.
too basic to be helpful.......2005-02-11
It's good to know how an editor think about the scientific writing, but practically the book is not helpful if you want to learn writing rather than editing. The author has never written scientific papers by himself. He has no idea how to orgnize the data and make a convincing story.
I have read many beautiful scientific papers in prestigeous journals. How come those authors have not written a book??
Also Day's book is too old. Now day nobody would like to draw graphs if there is software available.
Consise, to the point, and not boring - how papers should be.......2004-12-24
This book is a treasure for all scientists, particularly graduate students. The author covers each detail of writing a paper in its own chapter in a consise, clear and sometimes funny way. I recommend this book as a basic reference, if you need more help in one area, then consult other books.
High readability, invaluable information.......2004-10-03
I read this book in one morning, and I instantly felt less apprehensive about writing my manuscript. Day writes in a reassuring, humorous tone, and the information is concise and easily applied. This book will help anyone write a manuscript, develop a poster, compose a literature review, and be an effective communicator. The appendices are a brilliant resource on abbreviations, common errors, and other useful information.
And to the individual who stated that those with a background in English shouldn't advise for science: I have a B.A. in English literature, and am currently doing graduate work in the field of science. Hate to break it to you, buddy, but there isn't a formidable barrier between the two schools of science and arts. This pompous, condescending attitude will prove to be a disadvantage for you.
My B.A. has been an invaluable resource for writing in the scientific field. I agree with Day's perspective on communication skills being the downfall of many scientists. Many of my science professors desperately need an editor for the pitiful examples they force us to try learning from. All too often I've encountered my peers in scientific fields turning their noses up at those with an arts background. It is a beautiful example of poetic justice when I read their writing.
Customer Reviews:
Definitive.......2007-03-02
Yep, I can say "definitive." It applies to the writing of any white paper, in fact, from "why should I write this?" all the way through to "between proof and publication." 19 chapters, written plainly and honestly, organized in a very logical fashion. Read it cover to cover if you're a novice, dip in where needed if you're an expert. If you think you're an expert but you're not, I don't know what to tell you.
