Great book for learning GD&T.......2006-03-03
This book is an excellent substitute or supplement to a course in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing. GD&T was not taught at the college I attended and this book helped me quickly get up to speed. Within days of using this I was creating proper drawings that accuratly communicated my company's requirements for cast parts. However, the book is probably better suited as a learning tool than it is a reference as it often took some time to look up and find the answer for specific questions.
Excellent book for understanding Geometrical Tolerances.......1999-11-07
This book explains clearly the concept of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerances and the advantages of applied it to mechanical engineering drawings. It helps you to understand the difference between Geometrical Dimensioning vs Coordinate Dimensioning. A must for Engineering Drawing Standards.
Book Description
Geo-Metrics III is an extensively revised edition of the most respected and widely-read book on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, the technical drawing language for designing and manufacturing component parts of a mechanical product. Completely up to date, this new edition takes its reference from the content of the latest ANSI/ASME Y14.5M standard as well as harmonizing with the principles of related ISO international standards. It is also supportive of the ISO 9000 series of international standards policies and directives.

Tolerancing for Dummies.......2001-05-09
A very well writen book I had no problem understanding the text and the examples given for creating objects was very simple I picked up on creating tolerancs very easy I would recemond this book to anyone starting out doing tolerancing
Understand Geometric Tolerancing.......2000-09-04
Was reading the new rev. of the ARINC 600 Spec. Used a co-workers copy of of Geo-Metrics III to figure out a tolerance note I wasn't sure of. This book has the clearest descriptions of Geometric tolerancing with detail showing how to read and apply notes I have ever seen. I immediately copied the title pape so I could get my own copy. By the way, I am an electro-mechanical engineer.
Probably the best available.......1998-05-20
Foster presents essentially all of the basics required for understanding GD&T. I've taken associated training courses using Geo-Metrics II and III and found the books to be excellent reference materials. However, I found the text to be rather convoluted and boring. Coupled with the excellent graphics representations, one will come to an understanding of the principles.
Book Description
Explaining the symbology of dimensioning and tolerancing and introducing a step-by-step system for geometric definition, this book provides examples for the application of geometric controls. The author breaks down the language of geometric product definition into a series of steps that consist of significant questions to be asked at any point in the product definition. He addresses functional requirements and manufacturing techniques, measurement, inspection, and gaging procedures. The book illustrates how symbology is best utilized, in what order it should be applied, and how each geometric control anticipates, integrates, and complements all other geometric controls on a part and in an assembly.

disapointed.......2007-10-04
When I read the introduction of this book It was immediately clear it did not begin with the basics of GD&T. The books introduction assumes you are familiar with the fundamental principals of this system. This book may be great for someone already GD&T experienced wishing to improve their skills. For the inexperienced looking to learn from the ground up I would look elsewhere.
A clear, comprehensive look at a difficult topic........2005-03-10
I am the author of this book. The book is now entering its twelfth printing and has sold tens of thousands of copies to universities, companies and individuals throughout the world. It not only contains all of the basics of dimensioning and tolerancing, but at 624 pages is long enough to show the reader how to apply the language of GD&T to single parts and assemblies. I constantly get emails and personal comments from readers telling me how much they love the book. One person in charge of GD&T at Daimler/Chrysler told me he couldn't imagine a better book on the topic. Another said his whole department relied on it for the answers to all their GD&T questions. I decided to write in because there were two "reviews" listed by Amazon customers. One reviewer liked the book and the other didn't. The one who didn't said he couldn't even understand the book's Foreword. Since all I wrote in the Foreword was that GD&T was a language of symbols and rules and then proceeded to thank the individuals who helped me construct the book, I had to wonder what could possibly have confused him. I just wanted the customers of Amazon to know this is a serious treatment of a difficult topic and one of the most comprehensive texts ever written about GD&T.
Unreadable.......2004-12-03
This book is poorly organized and written. Even the introduction requires the reader to understand material not yet introduced until later chapters. The author repeatedly alludes to subtleties and nuances which obscures clear meaning and hinders the learning process. The book is unreadable and I am returning it for credit.
Good Beginning.......2000-06-26
I am in the automotive field and needed a source reference. This book is excellent not too technical and not too simple. I would recommend it for anyone who needs an understanding of GD&T.

The greatest reference on the subject........2006-11-20
Book Description
An essential self-teaching guide
This sourcebook provides a thorough explanation of ASME 14.5, the geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standard which is used primarily to communicate engineering configurations from the designer to the manufacturer. Heavily illustrated with engineering configurations, this book includes practical examples to assess individual knowledge as well as exercises based on the Frequently Asked Questions gathered over the author's 26 years as an educator.

DECENT REFERENCE.......2007-01-09
I PURCHASED THIS BOOK TO HAVE A GRAPHICAL REFERENCE OF GD&T, IT DOES A DECENT JOB BUT THE EXAMPLES STILL ARE NOT AS COMPLICATED AS THAT WHICH IS COMMONPLACE IN INDUSTRY. I STILL USE GOOGLE TO FIND DRAWING EXAMPLES MORE OFTEN THAN ANY OF MY REFERENCE MANUALS.

Book Description
This book addresses the preparation and application of design layout analyses with concurrent engineering teams in six steps that capture design intent and add value to design process. It offers tools for eliminating costly trial-and-error approaches and deliver economically viable products. The authors discuss product design techniques that alleviate the constraints between product definition, manufacturing, and inspection, the prediction of variation effects on product function and manufacturing efficiency, functional inspection techniques that include CMM measurement, optical comparators, and surface plate and functional gaging, and more.

Solid reference, easier to use than ASME Y14.5M.......2000-08-19
Bruce Wilson has developed a volume which explains the ASME Y14.5M-1994 drawing standards in a more accessible format. This book is an ideal companion to the official drawing standards, or if you don't want to shell out a hundred bucks for the ASME book.
Extensive examples and a well-formed index also contribute to the effectiveness of this work. My only complaint is that the entire book is slanted toward machined parts, so people who work a lot with plastics or complex-surface parts may find themselves wondering how to apply certain dimensions.
A thorough yet easy to understand presentation of GD&T........1999-03-18
GD&T is thoroughly explained in easy to understand terms. Explanations build from simple applications to those that require extension of the principles currently defined by the national standard. All material is in agreement with the current national standard, ASME Y14.5M-1994. Design dimensioning and Tolerancing is written such that it will be a good resource for engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance organizations. Exercises contained at the end of each chapter make it useful for classroom use. The study guide and solutions manual are helpful for the classroom or self-study.
