Customer Reviews:
Simple, Great Examples.......2005-08-18
The books is organized into small chapters with great example resumes and a list of key words. It allow you to improve you IT resume in a short amount of time and even have suggestion on where to start if you are new to IT.
The Best, don't look further.......2005-01-11
I read this book so fast, the way it was written was so interesting and easy, evey single question I had in mind was answered, nothing is left! I loved the book, unfortunately I cannot get the Ace the IT INTERVIEW book, because it is not available in my area, but I would definetly the interview book too! by the way there is a very good chapter about interview in this book!
four little things i hated about this book:
- much more of network than software development ! but it is ok coz most careers are in Network administration.
- in a resume there was: Modem Software!!, this is called Browser...!
- adding Norton AntiVirus in an IT resume is something stupid!
- PHP and C-Sharp: top programming lanuges not mentioned in the book!
In the market for an IT job? Get this book!.......2004-12-28
This book's objective is to land you an interview. Before reading this book I could only say I had 1 maybe 2 interviews total in a period of a few months. After reading this book and using some of its suggestions I have had several more.
Overall I'd rate it a 4.8 since I feel that Paula is a bit too forward with some of her suggestions (for example closing statements on cover letters that are a bit overboard imo).
But that's my only complaint =)
No matter your position in life be it a freshout of college or an experienced IT vet who's looking for something different, this book will pay for itself many times over.
Ace the IT Resume!.......2004-01-15
This book is excellent!!! If you think your resume is good, think again. Follow the steps in this book and you'll see a totally new person. I used it in conjunction with Ace the IT Job Interview and it got me a job.
Absolutely Horrifying!.......2003-11-24
I do not know where these women got their credentials, but they are WAY off the mark! DO NOT LIE ON YOUR RESUME! No matter what this book recommends! For instance, the authors state: "If your offical title is Tech Level I, you might be responsible for database administration, PC support, and webmaster duties. If you're hoping to move into DBA, list 'database administrator' as the job title and as the first bullet describe your responsibilities in this function." Wrong, wrong, wrong! As a hiring manager and interviewer, if I discover you lied about your job title, especially when you were a Tech I and you claimed to be a DBA, I will wonder what else you lied about. And believe me, I'll find out when I call your previous employers to verify your employment history. No, instead, when in this situation, downplay, emphasize the job title you want, and even omit your job titles, and use the opportunity to emphasize your skills. That way, even if you don't have the right job title, you can demonstrate to me that it doesn't matter. But NEVER, EVER lie or deliberately mislead anyone. Then they'll just feel like you were trying to trick them, which is NOT very impressive.

Nice Overview of Jobs.......2007-07-13
This book profiles librarians in various work areas - public, academic, nontraditional, and management, among others. The librarians that were profiled talk about their jobs and various duties, and the education and experience that led them into their current position. I found it especially helpful that the author asked each librarian how they keep up with continuing education; regardless of the field they were in most librarians had similar responses (conferences and online discussion groups). This would be a good book not only for a library student but also library professionals who might be contemplating a career change. There are enough profiles here to read them through easily and see which types of librarianship you identify with.
Very informative with great personal experiences.......2007-03-09
I have been wondering what it is like to be a librarian, and I wanted to know the diversity of the job. This book covers exactly that, as advertised. One of the things I really liked about the book was at the end of each chapter there was a brief synopsis of specific duties and requirements to specialize in that particular field. The personal stories were the most informative and interesting. This is a great book for beginners like me, and, I suspect, it would be interesting for experienced librarians as well.
A very handy and "user friendly" introduction.......2004-03-05
Straight From The Stacks: A Firsthand Guide To Careers In Library And Information Science by Laura Townsend Kane (Head of Cataloging & Acquisitions, University of South Carolina School of Medicine Library, Columbia, South Carolina), is a very handy and "user friendly" introduction for library students, paraprofessionals, practicing librarians, and anyone else seeking to learn as much as they can about information service careers. Straight From The Stacks is a superb guide addressing a number of common questions ranging from "Where can I apply an advanced degree in library science" to "What experience and training do I need", along with sample job descriptions, firsthand career information from real librarians, required qualities for success in a variety of library-related jobs and more. No Library Science reference collection can be considered complete without the inclusion of Laura Townsend Kane's Strait From The Stacks!

So what's New?.......2006-03-08
While the advise regarding resume writing per se was sound, it was also common knowledge for the most part. Most disappointing was the lack of any unique information or focus regarding resume writing for those in 'science' careers, the presence of which is strongly suggested in the title of the text thus setting apart from the plethora of texts on the subject. Personally, I did not find any information in the whole of the text that I couldn't readily find either online or in any number of resume writing texts.

Customer Reviews:
Not So Hot for Doctors...........2001-08-30
While I must admit I did not READ the entire book, I did give it a fairly thorough skimming. As a physician preparing to start my job search I found this book to be minimally useful. The cover boldly proclaims that the book contains model resumes for DOCTORS, etc. Truth is there is not a single model resume for a physician/doctor to be found in this book. From my point of view I really wanted give the book 1 star, but I suppose there is some useful information here for nurses, technicians, and others involved in health care. The false advertising on the cover really burns that part of me next to where I usually keep my wallet. M.D.'s and D.O.'s look elsewhere!
great resource book for writing your resume!.......2000-02-17
I found this book very helpful when revising my resume 3 years ago. I combined several of the styles presented to put together a very dynamic resume. A great investment for certain!

Resumes in Cyberspace is a very reassuring book that doesn't take for granted that you know your way around cyberspace or a job search, yet it doesn't condescend. Pat Criscito has written a resource that is packed with helpful ideas and information that is usually gained the hard way--by not doing things right in the first place, and losing an opportunity to someone who does. The author covers topics such as designing a scannable and fax-favorable resume, which companies accept resumes online and how to approach them, and how to use online job banks and resume repositories. An extremely valuable ally for your next job search.
Book Description
Updated to help job seekers take full advantage of the latest Internet trends and technology, this new edition provides detailed instruction on designing a resume for computer networking. Readers will learn to make their resumes scannable and searchable through use of key words. They'll also find advice on using the World Wide Web and a variety of commercial online services to land a job. New in this edition is a chapter containing career resources on the web, and instructions for building a network of contacts using e-mail and newsgroups.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......2005-05-08
This is really the only book you need to help write your perfect resume. Author did a great job.
This book will help you get your resume noticed.......2000-02-07
This is a great book for those seeking jobs who would like to present their resumes on the Internet for prospective employers to view. There are sections on scannable, e-mailable resumes and creating an ASCII text file for a resume. The book has a large section on how to find jobs on the Internet. It shows a list of job-related newsgroups, and a job-related mailing list on the web. There is a 27 page list of companies that accept resumes at their Internet sites plus a four page list of Internet job banks and databases. There are 70 pages of career-related Internet site addresses. In fact this book is packed with a vast amount of Internet links making it the best book for anyone seeking information about resumes and job hunting in cyberspace.
Online Resumes Require Serious Offline Preparation!.......1998-06-13
There are a number of books on the market today that will help people write the "perfect" resume. There are fewer books on the market that will help you design resumes specifically for posting online. This is one of them. Pat Criscito offers a considerable amount of instruction on how to design resumes that can be easily posted and properly viewed online. There is more to preparing a resume for online use than may be apparent at first. This book leads the way!

Customer Reviews:
do your own searching.......2005-03-30
A fair amount of this book could be determined by you through a focused web search. The lists of websites provided in the book is nice, but active searching can be more effective. While it can be argued that the author is offering his expertise as a filter of what is available on the web, you may learn more by conducting your own study.
However, if you are pressed for time, and need a synopsis of what types of computer jobs you might be interested in, then the book might prove useful.
