Excellent!.......1999-12-07
This is more of a collection of individual papers or topics than a text book. It is basically a continuation of Ragnar Holm's famous work.
If you are in the field of electrical contacts this is a book you can't live without!

After Mr. Blackburn retired from Westinghouse, he became a consultant and proceeded to put the material in this book together. It was a labor of love, for a lot of people have said that the practice of protective relying is like black magic because there are many correct ways to protect a system, they all have problems but it is up to the practitioner to determine the best solution for a given situation. Mr. Blackburn poured his years of experience and expertise into this book. He tried to do this in a systematic manner in order to reduce the amount of ambiguity usually associated with the black arts. I believe he has succeeded.
I would agree with the others that the second edition was a letdown from the first, but then again, most first editions are more informative because authors wrote "their" book with the first edition, the following editions are ususally to answer the critics and publishers.

Vladimir Gurevich Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0849341884 |
Book Description
Electric relays pervade the electronics that dominate our world. They exist in many forms, fulfill many roles, and each have their own behavioral nuances and peculiarities. To date, there exists no comprehensive reference surveying the broad spectrum of electric relays, save one-Electric Relays: Principles and Applications. This ambitious work is not only unique in its scope, but also in its practical approach that focuses on the operational and functional aspects rather than on theory and mathematics. Accomplished engineer Dr. Vladimir Gurevich builds the presentation from first principles, unfolding the concepts and constructions via discussion of their historical development from the earliest ideas to modern technologies. He uses a show-not-tell approach that employs nearly 1300 illustrations and reveals valuable insight based on his extensive experience in the field. The book begins with the basic principles of relay construction and the major functional parts, such as contact and magnetic systems. Then, it devotes individual chapters to the various types of relays. The author describes the principles of function and construction for each type as well as features of several relays belonging to a type that operate on different principles. Remarkably thorough and uniquely practical, Electric Relays: Principles and Applications serves as the perfect introduction to the plethora of electric relays and offers a quick-reference guide for the experienced engineer.

Control of Feul Cell Power Systems: Principles, Modeling Analysis, and Feedback Design (Advances In Industrial Control)
J.T. Pukrushpan Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
Accessories:
ASIN: 1852338164 |
Book Description
The problem of greenhouse gas (particularly carbon dioxide) release during power generation in fixed and mobile systems is widely acknowledged. Fuel cells are electrochemical devices offering clean and efficient energy production by the direct conversion of gaseous fuel into electricity. As such, they are under active study for commercial stationary power generation, residential applications and in transportation. The control of fuel cell systems under a variety of environmental conditions and over a wide operating range is a crucial factor in making them viable for extensive use in every-day technology.
In Control of Fuel Cell Power Systems the application of fuel cells in automotive powertrains is emphasized because of the significance of the contribution to global CO 2 emissions made by ground vehicle propulsion and because of the challenge presented by the accompanying control problems. The authorsâ comprehensive control-oriented approach provides:
⢠An overview of the underlying physical principles and the main control objectives and difficulties associated with the implementation of fuel cell systems.
⢠System-level dynamic models derived from the physical principles of the processes involved.
⢠Formulation, in-depth analysis and detailed control design for two critical control problems, namely, the control of the cathode oxygen supply for a high-pressure direct hydrogen fuel cell system and control of the anode hydrogen supply from a natural gas fuel processor system.
⢠Multivariable controllers that attenuate restraints resulting from lack of sensor fidelity or actuator authority.
⢠Real-time observers for stack variables that confer redundancy in fault detection processes.
⢠Examples of the assistance of control analysis in fuel cell redesign and performance improvement.
⢠Downloadable SIMULINK® model of a fuel cell for immediate use supplemented by sample MATLAB® files with which to run it and reproduce some of the book plots.
Primarily intended for researchers and students with a control background looking to expand their knowledge of fuel cell technology, Control of Fuel Cell Power Systems will also appeal to practicing fuel cell engineers through the simplicity of its models and the application of control algorithms in concrete case studies. The thorough coverage of control design will be of benefit to scientists dealing with the electrochemical, materials and fluid-dynamic aspects of fuel cells.

Electricity, Not Electronics.......2002-11-11
A firm grasp of Electricity is needed before one can hope to master Electronics.
This remarkable book does just that. It is written in an intuitive manner allowing a novice to progress through the subject with ease.
For the those who practice Electricity for a living, it is a welcome refresher. Even the "Old Salt" who has been doing it for years: there are lots of "Ah Ha's," yet to be discovered.
This Book should not be underestimated or dismissed; it is worth exploring.

DC/AC Circuits & Electronics: Principles & Applications (Herrick & Jacob Series (electronics engineering technology texts))
Robert Herrick Manufacturer: Thomson Delmar Learning ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
Accessories: ASIN: 0766820831 |
Book Description
The first in Delmar Learning's Herrick & Jacob Series, six tightly integrated electronics engineering technology texts, DC/AC Circuits and Electronics: Principles & Applications teaches readers how to apply basic laws and analysis techniques to traditional introductory circuits, as well as popular, real-world DC and AC circuits. Central to this book is its ability to engage readers who are new to the study of electronics in interesting and useful concepts from the start, guiding them in their efforts to learn how to develop and apply fundamental laws. Throughout the book, only those circuit theorems and analysis techniques that are practical and typically used in real-world circuit analysis are addressed. In addition, Kirchhoff's Current Law, Kirchhoff's Voltage Law and Ohm's Law are introduced in separate, stand-alone chapters to ensure that the reader has a complete understanding of each law before attempting to apply all or part to traditional series and parallel circuits. Level and rigor make this book an ideal choice for use in programs accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). In addition, the same circuits presented in DC/AC Circuits and Electronics: Principles & Applications also appear in subsequent books in this series, encouraging readers to enlarge the envelope of performance and revisit techniques as they gain increasingly sophisticated knowledge of circuit theories and operations.
