Book Description
THE SECTIONAL ANATOMY LEARNING SYSTEM is thoroughly revised and updated with two new chapters including re-drawn illustrations, and new post-tests with images. The system consists of two volumes: a main text and a workbook of applications. A new chapter has been added on the vertebral column and spinal cord. The concepts section of the text now covers sectional anatomy of the entire body. It is organized to correspond to the text chapters. Applications consist of coloring and labeling exercises for over 250 revised drawings of transverse, sagittal, and coronal cadaver sections.
Customer Reviews:
Heaven Help You! If you are required to buy this for a class!.......2007-01-01
This 2 volume set is horrible! The diagrams in the Applications book are vague and confusioning. The way that the Concepts book is written is just terrible it is jumbled and runs together. It is impossible to besure that you are labeling or even answering most of the questions correctly, let alone all of them. Diagrams in the workbook that are totally different then the ones in the Concepts book and you are suppose to label them? correctly? There has got to be something better out there. I can not wait until I am done with this class, I will see if everyone wants to come over to my book burning party!
OK-At best-.......2005-03-07
I had this 2 vol set for a cross sectional course- The pictures were poor quality, the labels ambiguous, and the author had a tendency to be inconsistent with viewing aspect- one image is a sup/inf view, and the very next one is exactly the opposite- and although recognizing the anatomy from different aspects is important, this book did so in such and random, disorganized manner. The orientation went against all of my training as a radiology and ct tech, since the image orientation was not consistent.(the right should ALWAYS be the right, doncha know?) I do not recommend it to imaging professionals, as there are better books out there, but it might be ok for medical students or the like. Overall, I began to despise this book to the point that I gave it away as soon as class was over, and I found myself using other texts and online resources to study, because the book was just too confusing!!

Customer Reviews:
Excellent for A and P students.......2004-06-13
I found this book to be well-written and to the point for every topic in anatomy and physiology. It was totally complete, showing the structure and function of every system in the body. I studied this book and the following for my college anatomy and physiology classes: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
Vol 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and Vol 2 (ISBN: 0971999627)
This books really helped out for test preparation. They showed the various questions that were similar to my actual exam questions. I highly recommend these 3 books.
Great for self-study.......2002-07-05
The book is organized by organ system, and each chapter is full of well explained illustration. To use the book, not much knowledge of chemistry is needed (just a bit of acid/base chem, freshman year) and elementary cell biology. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants an elementary, easy to follow introduction to anatomy and physiology for self-study.
Book Description
Designed for the one-semester course, Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology is written to allow instructors the ability to accomplish one main goal: to teach the basics of A&P while fostering the skills of problem solving. The text focuses on two major themes: 1)the relationship between structure and function, and 2)homeostasis.
Customer Reviews:
A book you can learn a lot from!.......2000-08-07
This book is a great learning tool! It "teaches" you about your own body, how it works and why you should care about what you eat, exercise, etc. The book is very well structured, with an objectives list at the beginning of each chapter and reasoning skills questions at the end, that helps you develop study and observation skills. This is a great book that changed the way I see my body, I learned a lot with this book!!

The Great Brain Book: An Inside Look At The Inside Of Your Head
ASIN: 0688170609 |
Amazon.com
Did you know that your brain (yes, even yours) is roughly the size of a large grapefruit? Award-winning author Seymour Simon clearly and skillfully exposes the many wonders of the brain and nervous system in The Brain: Our Nervous System. Author of more than 150 children's books about science, including The Heart: Our Circulatory System, Muscles: Our Muscular System, and Bones: Our Skeletal System, Simon has a knack for piquing the curiosity of youngsters and clearly communicating scientific facts. The Brain, written for ages 8 and older, is a solid launching pad for further investigation of the organ that makes us who we are. Kids will love learning that our brains grow until we are 7 years old, that our spines have 33 vertebrae, and that our skulls are made of 28 bones. Large, full-color photographs and illustrations show the fascinating, if slightly nauseating, areas of the human brain--a positron computed tomography (PCT) photo, for example, shows the dramatically different levels of visual stimulation to the brain when your eyes are open or closed. Two to three paragraphs of large type per page, plus one full-bleed illustration per spread, help make The Brain just the right amount of information for one grapefruit-sized brain to take in. (Ages 8 and older) --Karin Snelson
Book Description
The brain is the control center for everything from memories to movement, eyesight to emotions. This incredible computer processes messages from billions of microscopic cells called neurons, which link up to form nerves. Covering every inch of the body, nerves can carry messages from your fingertip to your brain and back at speeds of up to four hundred feet per second. With stunning full-color photographs and a fascinating text, award-winning author Seymour Simon continues his fantastic journey through the human body.

Great Photos!.......2006-02-21
This is a very good introduction to the brain and its functions. The book has numerous high quality photos of the brain, CT/MRI,spinal cord/nerves and more. Neuroscience is made fun for both kids and adults!
The Brain, The Brain! .......2004-11-28
I love Seymour Simon's books and his series on the body is no exception. I do guided reading and independent reading in my ESOL class and have a Bosnian student who is going to go nuts about this book. She loves non-fiction.
The Brain : Our Nervous System........2000-01-20
Excellent health/well being book with a great step by step introduction to the brain, its parts, how it works and the memory. The pictures are the best part. Contains excellent color illustrations and will be of interest to students from the 4th grade through the 9th grade. It's also a recommended read for the teachers.

Pathophysiology of the Motor Systems : Principles & Clinical.......2000-06-26
As a student of occupational therapy, this book was a required text in our neuropathology course. Every chapter is written by a PhD holder. Some of the authors are also PTs. As noted in the book's preface, this book was written for PT and OT students but would be helpful for any rehabilitation health-care practitioner. The extent of the detail is helpful in understanding both the pathophysioogy of a given disorder as well as the impact on the person. Be aware though that this book is NOT beach reading---it will take effort to digest much of the material. While only a few pictures are included, those that are presented are helpful. The book contains 6 sections: Section I includes basic information on cells, muscles, nerves, basic sensory mechanisms. Section II covers motor control, brinstem & motor control, cortical motor systems, cerebellar mechanisms, basal ganglia, motor control theories & motor learning. Section III describes motor function disorders such as spasticity, apraxia. Section IV discusses neuromuscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy, myastheina gravis, peripheral neuropathies, cranial nerve disorders. Section V describes central motor control disorders such as anterior, posterior, central and lateral cord syndrome, and other spinal cord lesions. Parkinson's Disease and Huntington's Disease are described in detail, as is various cerebellar disorders. Traumatic Brain Injury and Cerebral vascular accident's are discussed. Multiple Sclerosis is also described in detail. The final section discusses the effects of immobilization on the musculoskeletal system and on visceral function.
Book Description
This CD-ROM with accompanying manual will introduce medical, allied health, and undergraduate students to the logic of anatomical thinking and the microscopic structure of the body's tissues. Its correlation of low power with high power views, the quality of its images, and the ease of using the CD are particularly attractive features. It is not a full electronic atlas with hyperlinks of pictures to text but rather a review of morphology that supplements the histology lab where students look through a microscope at slides of tissue specimens.
Customer Reviews:
Waste of Money.......2003-08-24
I had to have this book for the on-line Histology Class I am taking. I find it difficult to read and have to refer to many other books for verification. The CD sounds like it will be great, but as the slides are shown at different magnifications the orientation is changed. I have complained to the school and made a request that they find a different text to use.
Finally, an effective learning system for medical histology.......2002-06-09
Vaughan's Medical Histology offers a highly innovative and very effective method for learning medical histology. This is a learning system designed from a student's perspective. It offers 24-hour access to a histology laboratory equipped with a high-quality slide collection and staffed by a brilliant and patient instructor. The textbook narrative is clear, concise, and accurate. The CD-ROM images are far better than the slides in most medical school teaching collections, and the labelled black and white images encourage interactive learning and self-testing. Vaughan's Medical Histology enables students to rapidly and reliably master both histological skills and histological concepts.
Deborah Vaughn is an award-winning teacher at Boston University Medical School. For a very reasonable price, Vaughan's Medical Histology enables students and instructors at other universities to benefit from her vast knowledge of histology and from her highly effective teaching methods.
