Excellent dictionary.......2007-01-20
Great source for military terms in Arabic,very accurate recently used and very complicated military names and terms,comprehesive dictionary for military purposes
just to mention that this dictionary is useful for Arabic speakers , not a source for learning Arabic, having this understanding everyone would find it very helpful

Good comphrehensive list of different terms. One thing it is lacking is short vowels, so it is NOT for beginners........but Intermediate to Advanced unless you are able to get correct pronounciations of the words.
Excellent Resource for Military Terms.......2005-08-02
I originally bought this book as I was learning arabic and working with several Arab military officers. One advantage is that this book appears to be based on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) resources which means that the terms have been reviewed by several Arab-speaking nations.
The Arab military personnel, with whom I have shared this book, unanimously like it. As a result, they have requested several copies for their own use. (since the dictionary translates both ways)
The only limitation of the dictionary is that is is far from complete and lacks some of the more basic tactical terms.
A very good dictionary.......2004-03-17
This is probably the pre-eminent Arabic-English/English-Arabic Military Dictionary in the world. The terms are very well researched. Many dictionaries misuse military terms just in the source language, which means the translation will never be accurate. This dictionary uses terms which are standard or recognizable throughout the English-speaking military world, and standard Arabic terms that are at least understood in most or all of the widely varied Arabic dialects. It is much better - more accurate, better organized, more comprehensive - than just about any other Arabic dictionary for military purposes, including the Hans Wehr, Oxford, and the Mawrid. The dictionaries produced and issued by the US, Egyptian and Iraqi militaries are also inferior.
I got my copy in Cairo, at Madbuli Bookstore in Talat Harb Square for a better price. Otherwise, this is a good price, especially compared to US prices for most Arabic dictionaries.
As to the other (1-star) rating, that's what he gets for buying a dictionary when he wanted a tourist guidebook.
The only reason I hesitate to give the book five stars is that it doesn't address at all any regional considerations, which are as important as anything in Arabic translation.
Sucker bait!.......2004-02-20
I ordered this book as a gift for an army reservist who has been called up and ordered to Iraq. Maybe he could learn a few words and phrases that just might be invaluable. (When travelling to any foreign country, a little language is like a little money; much better than none at all.)
The content of the book is divided into three columns on each page. The first column has a military acronym such as PX. The second column translates the aconym into English words, Post Exchange. The third column translates the English words into Arabic, which I cannot understand nor reproduce here.
In someone spoke English and Arabic and was mystified by American military acronyms, this book could possibly be useful.
On the other hand, if someone (who speaks no Arabic) is looking for an English-Arabic word and phrase book that could be studied to pick up a few Arabic words and phrases because they are going to be deployed, this book is 100% and totally useless. Ronald W. Bruton, Retired school administrator.
Book Description
Arabs and Young Turks provides a detailed study of Arab politics in the late Ottoman Empire as viewed from the imperial capital in Istanbul. In an analytical narrative of the Young Turk period (1908-1918) historian Hasan Kayali discusses Arab concerns on the one hand and the policies of the Ottoman government toward the Arabs on the other. Kayali's novel use of documents from the Ottoman archives, as well as Arabic sources and Western and Central European documents, enables him to reassess conventional wisdom on this complex subject and to present an original appraisal of proto-nationalist ideologies as the longest-living Middle Eastern dynasty headed for collapse. He demonstrates the persistence and resilience of the supranational ideology of Islamism which overshadowed Arab and Turkish ethnic nationalism in this crucial transition period. Kayali's study reaches back to the nineteenth century and highlights both continuity and change in Arab-Turkish relations from the reign of Abdulhamid II to the constitutional period ushered in by the revolution of 1908.
Arabs and Young Turks is essential for an understanding of contemporary issues such as Islamist politics and the continuing crises of nationalism in the Middle East.

Late Ottoman Attempts at Survival.......2003-07-27
This book boils down to an examination of the aims of the Committe for Union and Progress after the end of the reign of Abdülhamid and the second constitutional experiment--all of which embody the last ditch efforts to revive the moribund sick man of Europe. As the title connotes, this is done with a particular emphasis on how the CUP/Young Turks viewed the Arab provinces; therefore, issues surrounding the turkification (better: centralization) of the late Ottoman empire and its relation vis a vis nascent Arabism and fading Ottomanism.
Kayali forms his work as a counterargument against the view that would describe the reforms of the Young Turks as motivated by the desire for the aggrandizement of Turkish ethnicity and language--prefering, rather, to see the actions of the CUP as an attempt to centralize and consolidate Ottoman authority, albeit by employing the Turkish language and emphasizing Ottoman interests over local ones to do so.
A note on the inclusion of "Islamism" in the title: the author throughout uses the term Islamism in what would appear to be a anachronistic fashion, being that it is rather tenuous to speak of Islamism at all until after the Second World War. Kayali plays fast and loose the term "Islamism" as meaning any gov't project that takes recourse to Islamic rhetoric. It's inclusion and usage in the book appears, then, to be a gimmick. Anyone looking for insights into Islamism, being mass populist political movements based on religious soiidarity, would do better to look elsewhere.

It's really hard to find books about this subject. If you are really interested, i recommend you to read this book. (not: kitabýn türkçesi tarih vakfý yayýnlarýndan çok daha ucuza temin edilebilir.)

Ihave been using this book for about five years without a single complain. The book has not only enough theory to deal with probably the 80 or perhaps 90 percent of the typical day-to-day dewaterning problems that we found in our industry, but it also teach you the ways to cope them.
Its a down to earth, user friedly, easy to read book/manual that every Geotech guy should have. The section "PRACTICE", with chapters like "Choosing a Dewatering Method","Well Point Systems" and "Sumps, Drains, and Open Pumping" has helped me to make that right recommendations on several of my projects.

Dissatisfaction.......2005-10-03
On your website, it's advertised as a hardcover copy. But the book I received is a paperback. The actual reason that I purchased the book from you is that I couldn't find the hardcover at any bookstores around the campus even though it takes more time buying from you.
The biggest difference between hardcover and paperback is quality of contents. the quality is very important because this book contains numerous photographs as most of the geology books do.
