Book Description
David Kenyon Webster’s memoir is a clear-eyed, emotionally charged chronicle of youth, camaraderie, and the chaos of war. Relying on his own letters home and recollections he penned just after his discharge, Webster gives a first hand account of life in E Company, 101st Airborne Division, crafting a memoir that resonates with the immediacy of a gripping novel.
From the beaches of Normandy to the blood-dimmed battlefields of Holland, here are acts of courage and cowardice, moments of irritating boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror, and pitched urban warfare. Offering a remarkable snapshot of what it was like to enter Germany in the last days of World War II, Webster presents a vivid, varied cast of young paratroopers from all walks of life, and unforgettable glimpses of enemy soldiers and hapless civilians caught up in the melee. Parachute Infantry is at once harsh and moving, boisterous and tragic, and stands today as an unsurpassed chronicle of war--how men fight it, survive it, and remember it.

Very Honest Depiction of an Infantry Soldier.......2007-08-07
I'm not going to repeat what has already been said. I read the book recently and I wasn't disappointed. I will say that it is very interesting to compare Maj. Winter's perspective as an officer (Beyond Band of Brothers) to David Webster's as an enlisted man. David Websters book is particularly good because, he was a talented writer, and captured his perspective in such a natural way. It's good and worth the $14 list price.
Parachute Infantry.......2007-03-21
Cold hard facts as seen by someone who was there, and came back. The names are all the same, the blood is all red, ordinary people who gave their all and won!
An up and down affair..........2007-02-21
First off, I approached this book with expectations that were too high and at times I found felt disappointed. As a big fan of the mini series, "Band of Brothers", in which his character is clearly portrayed, I expected his account of the war to be smartly written with better insight and descriptions, making it into a page-turner. At times this held true, with his accounts of the the first plane ride on D-Day, directly following the drop and later in the war. In between were a lot of moments that dragged.
It's important to know right away that his portrayal in " Band Of Brothers" was not very accurate, nor were some of the battle scenes, according to Mr. Webster, who I tend to believe. He was actually wounded twice and the first time happened shortly after D-Day. So early into the book, the momentum shifts when he takes us back to a memorial service for fallen servicemen that he attended, by order, while healing. It was described in detail, dragged and took me out of the momentum of the story that he built up through D-Day.
Once he returned to the front lines, the book gathered momentum and got into some type of rhythm. Many of the details regarding who he was friendly with, their personalties, chain of command issues and problems, and his feelings and approach to battles were interesting. I did find myself lost, however, regarding two main issues. One was the description of the directions they were traveling. I felt lost and had trouble getting a mental picture of the battle sites, which leads to the second issue. Assuming that the reader will understand many of the terms he used, either military or geographic. A brief one-time explanation of terms that he used over and over in the story would have helped me, but perhaps be as much of a problem for others. Particularly the geographic ones like the difference between a berm, ditch, trench, slit trench as well as others, and hedges, raised road, dikes and many others. Particularly the relationship to how the soldiers used them to their advantage or disadvantage. Again, I was confused directionally and geographically and therefore had trouble imagining the battle scenes.
Eventually, the book improved a great deal. Lots of great stuff about being in the forward position as scouts and the "real" story of what is called, "Operation Pegasus" in BOB. The actual operation was different in many ways from it's portrayal in the mini series. Definitely be prepared and look forward to what really happened, instead what looks good. The truth is much more interesting. In fact, try to forget all about what BOB portrays before reading this book, if in fact you are looking for a connection. Just them them happen naturally. I love his honesty regarding his personal approach to and feelings about this war and their operations. I suppose the dull moments of the book reflect the war in a more realistic fashion, it's just not what I expected.
I found myself even more engrossed as the war was winding down, from his perspective, which of course is very specific. I learned a lot about what really went on with soldiers as they moved across Germany and Austria kicking people out of their homes at each stop, which there is a term for that I cannot think of at the moment. He described many fascinating stories about the soldiers and how they dealt with the aftermath of the war when they were suddenly "regular" human beings again and not soldiers in the horrors of battle.
Mr. Webster had quite and experience and reading about it was at times dull but at many other times thrilling. Most of all it was the real thing and he wrote about it in a very human and honest fashion. I really recommend this book. I would suggest, however, to approach his accounts without any preconceived notions of what World War II was like, especially for the soldiers and most of all his view. In the end, it is the truths about the heroism and horrors of war from the soldiers perspective that is the most important. They are risking their lives for us and we should listen to what they have to say, above all others.
Great book.......2007-02-01
An American Paratrooper's Memoir of D-Day and the Fall of the Third Reich
by David Kenyon Webster
Is a great book, you relly feel the inside presence of the author it's if he's taken you back to WW 2 living the all experience from his personal view.
Wonderful account of American paratrooper's experiences.......2006-12-31
This book is one of the best memoirs from the Second World War. It comes from an American's (David Webster) point of view. He was a paratrooper in the famous 101st Airborne Division and fought through Normandy, Market Garden, Germany, and to Berchtesgaden (Hitler's Eagle's Nest). He was one of the original Toccoa men and his writing is that of a professional (writer). He was very educated, went to Harvard, and this book shows that. I would recommend this book to anyone interseted in the 101st, the E.T.O., or WWII. A highly fascinating account.
Book Description
On the night of 5- 6 June 1944, US paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were dropped over the Cotentin peninsula, on the western part of the Normandy beachhead.
The uniforms, equipment and small arms of these men immortalized by 'Band of Brothers' are presented here in the sharpest detail, as well as their orders of battle and insignia.
Illustrated throughout in full color.

June 6 American paras.......2006-05-09
This book is a delightful source of information on American airborne troops deployed over Normandy. A good refurence on uniforms, weapons and equipment.
A fun read.
Now if only Histoire & Collections could do the same for German paratroopers.
ANOTHER SUPERB PRODUCTION .......2005-11-29
Histoire et Collections has done it again.A fine work of the quality which the collector and researcher has come to expect from this publisher.
I have previous works on the British Tommy in NW Europe and Canadian soldiers. All are elaborately illustrated with charts, individual item photos, and reconstructions worn by models of combinations of equipment and clothing as qoen in northern Europe. In addition there are many lists, charts, and tables gathering together informatioon gleaned from many scarce and obscure publications.
Muxh of rhia work has appeared in the excellent French language periodical Militaria published also by Histoire et Collections. This method of proceeding has the great virtue of first publishing in a more temporary format and inviting the readers to submit corrections and additional data which can be used to improve the final work published in book form.
Tremendous detail on paratrooper equipment from helmet to boots.......2005-08-04
Anyone familiar with the French language magazine "Armes Militaria" knows that the quality of both the original equipment and the photography is outstanding. This book was published by or in concert with those publishers, and the quality is exceptional. Page after page of clear photos of original equipment, weapons, personal items, insigina, etc. The book is well organized, and covers everthing from the smallest insignia details, to the aircraft that carried the troopers to Normandy. This book is a goldmine of information, don't pass it up.
D-Day Paratroopers: The Americans.......2004-12-28
I was somewhat disappointed in this book. There were many errors in translation, few mentions about gliderborne troops and not enough information on equipment and uniforms. It doues have some good information about specifc men, units and operations, but overall just a basic book, nothing special. There are better airborne books out there, especially for D-Day.
great photographs and original material.......2004-11-28
Much of the material in this book comes from an older double issue of Militaria Magazine (which without question is the best publication in world for military collectors). That large article has been expanded and updated into a pretty good book.
One of the reasons that having people involved in this project that have an AB interest that pre-dates the recent movies is that they have been looking into this area for a while. Coupled with the fact that the primary authors live in France and spent a lot of time finding original stuff from the farms in Normandy-
So its one of the few books where you can see, in color- some original items, not the more recently made fakes which are flooding the market.
Is it perfect? no book is,and I am sure nitpickers everywhere will claim the glove leather color is wrong (etc.) but on the whole they've done a good job. Of major importance is the stunning graphical layouts with lots of period photos, modern color reconstructions, and kit layouts. Not to forget state of the art graphics to show things like organization.
Thereis also awarning about the rariety of orignal WW2 paratrooper items. I am sure some big dealers will say negative things about the book as it may cut into their mass prooduction lines of fake jump helmets and reinforced jump suits
So for now, this is probably the best book available which illustrates the US Paratrooper in WW2. If you want true stories of Airborne derring do- the best stuff and most historically accurate stuff written today is from Mark Bando.

Book Description
In this pioneering text, Martin uses a constructivist approach to guide students in learning how to teach in a constructivist manner. Grounded in the belief that it is more important for children to learn how to do science than it is for them to learn about science, this text is predicated on the reality that teachers of elementary science do not need to know a great deal of science to be good science teachers, but need to be co-inquirers with their students. To facilitate your students' learning, this text features a wealth of exercises: for teacher candidates, the book includes open-ended inquiry activities that help them to construct their own personal conceptualizations about science content and teaching science in the elementary school; and, it contains over 170 process-oriented, open-ended activities that teachers can use to encourage children to develop and perform their own investigations. The Book Companion CD-ROM, included with each new copy, provides tools and resources, such as additional activities and video, which students can use both in their college course and later in elementary science classrooms. All activities are linked to National Science Education Standards for content, professional development, assessment, and teaching, and the activities contain suggestions of appropriate children's literature.

Useful!.......2007-02-12
Although I am not currently teaching, I found this book to be easy to read, interesting, and contain engaging and useful lessons and activities for students of all ages.
Okay, but there's probably better.......2006-03-22
I had to get this book for a class. There are some good ideas in it, but the authors expect you to perform every experiment in it, and if you don't, you "miss out" on many of their ideas. It seems a little ridiculous -- one chapter is over 100 pages long and there are a TON of experiments in that chapter alone that the authors refer to over and over again. I'm sorry, but I did not have the time to do those activities!!!
Great Elementary Education Resource.......2005-09-09
This is a wonderful resource for Elementary Education Majors. Easy read!
This book is very useful, but contains a glaring error!.......1999-07-27
I am using this book as a reference for a master's project I am working on in education. I have found the book to be very useful and helpful. However, I am deeply disturbed by a glaring error contained in the text. Martin briefly overviews the history of the process approach to science education near the beginning of the book. Since I am including a history in my project, I have paid careful attention to this section. He states, "In October, 1959, the United States felt deeply humiliated by the launching of the Soviet spaceship, Sputnik" (p. 16). This event occurred on October 4, 1957! He goes on to say that the Woods Hole Conference took place one month earlier. In reality, Woods Hole took place in September of 1959, nearly two years later (Bruner, 1960). These mistakes almost discredit the entire book for me. Let's hope that the new 1999 edition corrects these errors.

Excellence In A Small, But Expensive, Package.......2006-07-05
I only have one beef about this book: the price. This book is only 192 pages long but costs more than some 500 page hardback college books. Normally, it would kill this book's buying appeal. Fortunately, this is worth it. Hands Down.
Separated into three sections, this book begins in the most obvious place: understanding the scientific mind of child. It then moves to environment, curriculum, and stage-setting for scientific inquiry. Then it ends with the "how-to" about putting science in the early childhood classroom. Short. Sweet. Simple, but EXTREMELY Detailed.
You know the best part about this book? Again, its simplicity of words. You don't always need 600 pages to teach a teacher how to impliment a strategy in his/her classroom. Sometimes it takes a few pages (like this one).
Give it a try. It may be a little pricey, but I truly believe tha the superb content will soften that blow.
Thoughtful Education.......2000-12-04
Even though the title of this book indicates an emphasis in early childhood education, any teacher can find useful, thought provoking ideas. It is well written, to the point and for teachers who believe that children construct their own knowledge, very supportive. I believe the ideas in the book can apply to any area of teaching.
A Science Teachers Dream!.......2000-10-10
This book is perfect for an elementary school teacher or science teacher. The book talks about the underlying processes that enable each child to learn in their own unique way. Teachers can take the information presented in this book and prepare science lessons that support the learning capabilities of the children. This book also presents numerous case studies and scenarios that give readers a variety of lesson plan ideas while at the same time explain HOW AND WHY the lesson plans best support the children. I am an education major and have found this book to be a wonderful resource for my studies. I know that I will also use this book when I become a teacher and need to put some wonderful ideas into practice.

Book Description
Many of Australia's fungi are brightly colored, some flourescent; some are elegant, others squat; some are fragrant, more still are highly toxic. This book showcases many of these species in all their splendor.
More than two-thirds of the text is devoted to species descriptions. The illustrations for identification include beautiful watercolors by Kay Smith, as well as color photographs and line drawings. This is a major revision of Tony Young's Common Australian Fungi, a Naturalists' Guide, with new illustrations and completely revised species list and keys to reflect recent taxonomic changes.
