Foley is a good writer, has a great sense of humour intermingled with some insights into the world of professional wrestling.
Very much not the stereotypical wrestling thug but a man with an opinion and the ability to voice it.
This book is not as good as his first book but it is still an entertaining read. Just wish he hadn't toed the WWE line and said that he hadn't seen anyone use steroids there. Bit fanciful.

Mick Foley's sequel to "Have a Nice Day" is good, but not great. Of the three he has written, it is not the best of the three.
However, it is still a very good book and an entertaining read. The part where his words were spileced to make the point NBC was trying to make about professional wrestling is a great example of media manipulation, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer, more sincere person as Mick Foley.
True fans of the work inside and outside of the ring still need to have this book.

MICK FOLEY (MANKIND) TELLS US OF HIS CAREER IN THE WWE AND A BIT ABOUT HIS FAMILY IN THIS MUST READ BOOK. MICK HAS A TON OF PHOTOS TO GO ALONG WITH HIS HUMOROUS AND INTERESTING STORIES. TO ME SOME OF THE GOOD ONES ARE ABOUT HHH, VINCE MCMAHON AND THE ROCK. MIX THIS WITH MICK'S WIT AND HIS GREAT GIFT OF SELF HUMOR MAKE THIS A REALY NICE READ. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE I HAVE A COMMENT ABOUT IS THAT THE BOOK IS A BIT LENGTHY. BUT ALL IN ALL ANOTHER FINE BOOK BY MICK. RECOMMENDED.

A disappointing edition.......2006-02-27
Dr. Kramnick does a disappointing job editing the selections in this volume. I constantly found that they missed key points to the individual papers, which lend a great deal to their meaning. It is always difficult when compiling an abridged reader of this nature. What stays in? What goes out? I recommend skipping this reader, if possible, especially if you are interested in the Enlightenment. Stick with the source documents for the "whole story".
FACINATING pure AND simple.......2005-10-31
The Age of Enlightenment, the Rise of Science, the art, and literature of the eighteenth century has always been an interest of mine. So you can imagine how amazed and elated I was when I came across this gold.
It has all the big enlightenment writers such as Voltaire, Diderot, Leibniz, Paine, Addison, Pope, Montesqieu, Franklin and many more. It gives a great run down of the wit, the result of the evolution of thought, politics, society and reason as seen in the words of these great minds.
The only thing that I didn't like about this is that there is no Hobbes, which is only a minor quibble. I just thought that since there is Descates, who is not of the eighteenth century enlightenment (17th century and dryer than dust), but a major influence (like Hobbes was included, Hobbes, who was a major link from Descartes to Locke should be included and the provacative and ENLIGHTENING words from The Leviathan should grace the pages of this indispensible book and yet another superb volume from the Viking Portable Library.
An Enlightenment Buffet.......2003-07-07
The eighteenth century Enlightenment is one of the most interesting and exciting periods of intellectual history. The thinkers of that age had a sizable impact on concepts of science, nature, politics, religion and society. How do we become immersed in the wealth of writing of that period, however, without giving up job and family in order to read the works of the Enlightenment authors?
This reader is an excellent book for novices and experienced readers alike. It is an excellent 600+ page book filled with short, pithy excerpts from the key thinkers of the period. Actually the writings go back as far as 1620 with an excerpt from Francis Bacon where he puts down the Greek philosophers and introduces what is to become the scientific method. Beccaria comes up with novel thinking on crime and punishment. Does the death penalty deter crime? How about the punishment fitting the crime instead of being meted out at the whim of some aristocrat?
Montesquieu, Voltaire, Rousseau and Paine weigh in with their political philosophy. The skeptics speak up with their religious criticisms. Manners, morals, art, war, and gender and race issues are all discussed by the likes of Mary Wollstonecraft, David Hume, Reynolds, Pope, and Bentham.
Bite sized as these entries are, they give the flavor of Enlightenment thought. And, importantly for the general reader, they are all mentally digestible. You don't have to read every paragraph six times in order to get a glimmer of the authors' meanings. The represented authors are not just from France either. The best thinkers from France, Italy, Germany, the United States and Great Britain are represented.

This was the most helpful anthology when I needed to write a research paper on seventeenth century religion. It has sections for almost all aspects of life and contains various selections that truly show the Enlightenment spirit!

Without this book, you are pretty much on your own when you are reading the main text. All the problems are solved clearly. Just reading it as a textbook can give you extra tips on somethings that you might have skipped in the book. Sometimes, you might get confused. Well, it is just chemistry. Read carefully.

if you're taking o chem, then you need this book. the summaries are helpful for review of chapters or in the worst case scenario, in substitution of the chapters. but the most important part of this book are the solutions to the problems. the only way you'll learn organic chemistry, like it or not, is by practicing problems. this solutions manual is the only way to know if you're doing those problems correctly - the text book does NOT contain solutions for problems in the book, beside the worthlessly easy ones contained directly in the chapters. in addition to the solution, it contains an explanation for all problems that require one.
THIS BOOK IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY! you won't be disappointed. if anything, go in on it with a friend that is also taking the course. you WILL need this book.

I benefited from this book immensely. If you are taking this class do yourself a big favor and buy it. If you are going to do something do it right and working the problems is the key. I got it for around 30$.
Needs a better editor.......2007-02-25
I bought this book along with the Bruice text for the organic class I'm taking right now. A solutions manual is indispensable for checking the answers to the problems you do - so I was going to buy the book anyway. Problem is, it looks like this solutions manual is the solutions manual for the 5th editon, only with a new cover so it looks like it's for the 6th edition. This would be fine, except that the problems in the 5th edition are not the same problems used in the 6th edition. I'd say that 90% of the time, the solutions manual is right - but is 90% good enough for people who are trying to learn the subject, and just end up getting more confused by a solutions manual with solutions for the wrong problem?? I think the publisher should offer a correct copy free to anyone who shelled out $88 for this book.

I feel that this book is fine for a reference to the text book problems. The only complaint is that going through nearly the first half of the book, I have found a few minor typos.

I'm an advanced physics student, and decided to take organic chemistry since i was curious about reaction mechanisms. I must say, i was very satisfied with the book by Bruice. The mechanisms were very detailed, and the book seem to go into a little more detail than most books that i had looked at. I loved my organic chemistry class and although found it much easier than physics, it had it's challenging areas....and Bruice's book help me understand these challenging areas. in the end, i highly recommend this book if you want to understand organic chemistry at a much more detailed level.

Even if you do not attend any O. Chem class, you can study this book and learn a lot. I took Organic Chemistry at University last year and we used a different book for that class. O. Chem by Vollhardt provides some more materials than needed for the first and second year of O. Chem class, but it helps you to have a better understanding about the subject.

This study guide/solutions manual matches the first edition of Organic Chemistry. Questions have been changed, rearranged, and added in the second edition, and the guide isn't nearly as useful or easy to use with it.

Several sample problems are worked out in every chapter to illustrate the material covered. They are all very clearly explained.
In addition, there are also more than enough problems at the end of each chapter to help students better understand the topics covered, however the answers are not provided in the back of the textbook.
This is precisely why the solutions manual is a must buy. I have worked all the problems presented from chapter 1 to chapter 21 (to include the end of chapter problems), and I have encountered only two or three "bad problems" for which the answers were not explained clearly. Almost every answer to every problem is clearly illustrated - some concepts are even better explained in the solutions manual than in the textbook!
It's expensive, but it's worth the money if you use it properly. I'd wish the buyer good luck in this class, but I doubt any disciplined, devoted student would need it after using this text.
