Very entertaining and informative biography on Ms. Jolie =-).......2007-01-06
This biography on Angelina Jolie was very well written and informative. The book included tons of fun facts about her, and had alot of great pictures. I enjoyed the book very much and would absolutely recommend it. If you're a Jolie fan, this book is for you. I also recommend Notes from My Travels by Angelina. That book was very touching and inspirational. I highly recommend both books.
nothing new here.......2006-07-07
Ordered the book to find out something new about Angie. Well, it was dissapointment- there was nothing new I could learn about Angelina. And the book wasn't that interesting to read generally.
Skip this book.......2006-03-13
I'm an Angelina Jolie fan and had hoped to learn a lot about her by reading this biography. I was seriously disappointed. I didn't learn much, as well as the book was not well written. I felt like half the book was dedicated to reviewing her movies or telling more about the movie plots, which I don't care about. I wanted to learn more about Angelina Jolie as a person, and frankly, this book didn't teach me much. It was a waste of my time to read.
ENTERTAINING.......2006-03-11
I FOUND THIS BOOK ABOUT ANGELINA TO BE A GOOD READ. IT IS SHORT AND SWEET, EASY TO READ. IT COVERS HER LIFE AND CAREER IN GENERAL WITHOUT A GREAT DEAL OF DETAIL. IF YOU LIKE TO READ ABOUT THE MOVIES SHE HAS MADE AND A BIT ABOUT HER PRIVATE LIFE, THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. IT HAS MANY PICS AND IS A NICE KEEPSAKE IF YOU ENJOY THIS GORGEOUS AND TALENTED ACTRESS. A NICE BUY.
Nice read.......2005-05-20
The book is a short read, 144 pages. It has a nice assortment of black and white photos, no color photos except the front and back covers. If you have been following Angelina for some time now, you'll already have seen most of these photos. Most of the photos are either screen shots and promotions, or from various award ceremonies. As a long time fan of Angelina, I was surprised to see that this book had a good bit of information on her that I didn't already know. There's a lot of quotes from magazines. The author breaks down most of Angelina's movies, and I do think he spends a tad too much time describing the other actors in these movies. Either way, it is a cheap book and a nice addition to a fan's collection, also a great read for the brand new fan. I recommend!

Escort Carriers in Action.......2000-11-13
Escort Carriers at War is yet another in the highly successful Squadron/Signal series. The content is arranged by carrier type and gives a brief description of the Classes and their careers. Both picture and line drawings are first class but unfortunately the actual text leaves a lot to be desired. If nothing else this series is normally factually correct, but this volume lets the side down badly. There are numrous errors in text with carriers Classes/Names being the main victim,(Bouge instead of Bogue) with no fewer than 13 errors in one page alone. Unfortunately it goes far beyond faulty proof reading and in the process one finds oneself being sorely distracted by the numerous errors.

Book Description
The pursuit of German U-boats in the Battle of the Atlantic has long been considered one of the most exciting stories of World War II. This definitive study takes readers into the cockpits and onto the flight decks of the versatile and hardy U.S. escort carriers (CVEs) to tell of their vital, yet little-known contribution to the anti-U-boat campaign. Sailing apart from the Allied convoys, the CVE captains had complete freedom of action and frequently took their ships on "hunt and kill" missions against the enemy. The German submarines were allowed no respite and no place to relax without the fear of discovery.
World War II historian William Y'Blood explains that in the eighteen months between the Spring of 1943, when the escort carriers began to prowl the Atlantic, to November 1944, the average number of U-boats in daily operation was reduced from 108 to a mere 31. Though land-based aircraft, various support groups, and the convoy system itself helped win the Battle of the Atlantic, the escort carrier groups' influence was profound. In addition to documenting the escort carriers' exciting operational history, the author also traces the CVE's development and construction and examines its tactical and strategic uses. 332 pages. 45 photographs. 26 line drawings. Paperback. 6 x 9 inches.
Product Description
A working account of the various duties and achievements of the Escort Carriers during WW II. The hard working but little publicized, thin skinned, baby carriers, who also did battle at extremely close range with enemy battleships, cruisers and destroyers.
Book Description
The substantial accomplishments of the U.S. Navy's mini-carriers in such battles as Leyte Gulf, Guadalcanal, the Marianas, and Okinawa never gained the attention given the fast carriers, but there is little question that their vital operations played an important role in the Pacific campaign. These remarkably versatile vessels--called CVEs, baby flattops, and even jeeps--hunted submarines, escorted convoys, provided air support, and performed dozens of other tasks that are vividly described in this book. Based on interviews with the CVE crewmen and on war diaries, ship histories, and other documents, it tells a moving story of escort carrier operations, from the work of the first CVEs to their final assignment transporting GIs home after the war. Seldom-seen photographs add to this fascinating portrait of the little giants.

US escort carriers history.......2002-10-25
This book is a good overall history of the small escort carriers
used in WW2. It represents good value in a part of naval history
that is lightly covered.
Customer Reviews:
A moving story of real heroes........2005-10-04
This is a well-written story about the real-life heroes of the USS Liscome Bay. It is both very sad in its horrific loss and truly inspiring in its heroism. Our young people should read this to understand the fidelity and the devotion to duty that exemplified our grandparent's generation.
A Must Read.......2004-10-15
The heroic story of the men of the USS Liscome Bay told in novel-like fashion by author James Noles. I would rank this book up there with the likes of Flags of Our Fathers, and Ghost Soldiers. I guarantee the reader will not be able to put it down.
Salute to Twenty-Three Minutes to Eternity.......2004-05-24
James Noles has written an outstanding tribute to the men of the USS Liscome Bay. Twenty-Three Minutes is a must read for anyone interested in World War II or naval history. The book covers the tale of the USS Liscome Bay, from the necessity driven decision to commission these vulnerable escort carriers, to the ship's tragic sinking in November 1943 with a staggering 644 hands. Through gripping narration, Noles details a horror and heroism that has largely been overlooked by historians. Twenty-Three Minutes reads like fiction; so much so, you won't be able to put it down. I salute the men of the Liscome Bay, and James Noles for telling their story. I highly recommend this book.

Book Description
Peace, Power, Righteousness: An Indigenous Manifesto is a political manifesto--a timely and inspiring essay that calls on the indigenous peoples of North America to move beyond their 500-year history of pain, loss, and colonization and make self-determination a reality. Taiaiake Alfred, a leading Kanien'kehaka (Mohawk) scholar and activist, urges Native communities to return to their traditional political values to educate a new generation of leaders committed to preserving indigenous nationhood. Only a solid grounding in traditional values and the principles of consensus-based governance will enable Native communities to heal their present divisions, resist assimilation, and forge new relationships of respect and equality with the mainstream society. Familiar with Western as well as indigenous traditions of thought, the author presents a powerful critique of the intellectual framework that until now has structured not only relations between indigenous nations and the state, but the internal politics of colonized communities. Yet he does not condemn non-indigenous people; instead, he invites them to transcend historical prejudices and join in the struggle for justice, freedom, and peace.
Customer Reviews:
Good book, but be critical........2005-05-24
This is a thought provoking book, however Taiaiake Alfred makes some assertions and recommendations that I find VERY problematic. Mainly that he is against 'mixed marriages' and pretty much calls this diluting of am Indigenous gene pool. In my eyes, this taints everything else he says with a racist supremist theme.
I like the idea that we need to look to our traditions and teachings for guidance in governance, but I find the language very loaded and 'anti' based. I would like to see at least a smidgen of credit given to our elected leaders that have for years fought on our behalf.
Dr. Alfred vocalizes an opinion popular amongst many Indigenous people, for that reason the book is worth reading, however be mindful that some of what he sasys is outright wrong.
Indigenizing the Indigenous.......2000-03-26
Taiaiake Alfred presents a thought prevoking and straight forward critique of today's aboriginal politics. Filled with understanding, insight, and challenging thoughts, he states the facts in a clear and honest manner. This book is a must read for everybody, especially those wanting a better understanding of traditional aboriginal politics and thought.
an addition to a grand reexamination of CANADA and USA.......1999-09-09
those in "position" will be wise to read this book. movements and opportunities exist 4 everyone. only with self examination of thought and language will we untangle the knots we have in our tangled minds. the writer does a wonderful job exposing some of these entanglements.

Book Description
"Know thy gadgets; first step in restoring some kind of wholeness to one's life." So observes John Jerome about his purpose for rebuilding a 1950 Dodge pickup. Yes, he needs the truck to haul manure, but Jerome also hopes that "by knowing every nut, lockwasher, and cotter pin I could have a machine that had some meaning to me." Thus his year-long odyssey under the hood, among the brake shoes and valves, becomes more than a mechanic's memoir; it is a meditation on machines, metaphysics, and the moral universe.
Nearly two decades after publication in 1977, the essential dilemma of Truck still rings true: as Jerome dismantles the aged straight six, he also disassembles our reliance on "two-hundred-dollar appliances that sport flaws in thirty-five-cent parts" and decries the "deliberate encapsulation, impenetrability, of the overtechnologized things with which we furnish our lives." Despite gouged knuckles, a frigid New Hampshire winter, frustrating and inexplicable assemblies, and a close call when the truck rolls off its jacks, he perseveres. In the end, he admits, "I did not find God out there in the barn" among the cans of nuts and bolts." What he does find, however, is that he must make peace with technology; it's a mistake, he says, to "assume there is a point on that line between the caveman's club and the moon shot that marks the moral turnaround, before which technology was somehow benign, after which it is malign." While Jerome gains a truck that runs-sometimes-we gain new insight into a technology that continues to encroach upon our lives.
Customer Reviews:
Enjoyable, but finished it and wanted more.......2004-12-14
TRUCK reminded me a alot of the book: THE CONTRARY FARMER. Although I enjoyed this book and finished it quickly, I was left wanting more. I related to the author and share many of his original motivations. All in all, the small price of the book will probably save me many hours and dollars by learning from someone else's experience.
rebuilding.......2003-11-28
This is a great book for anyone who has or is thinking about rebuilding or restoring a vehicle. John has all the usual troubles and then some! I have read this book probably six times and never tire of it. Well worth you time and gave me many a laugh.
Hysterically funny and useful too!.......2003-01-15
I've read the book five times since buying it, as the humor camouflaged some of the practical gems about rebuilding old trucks. A wonderful curl-up-before-the fireplace read!
For everyone who dreams to be a Gearhead.......2001-12-05
It's much more than story it's an experience!
Neat stuff.......2000-03-19
It was a Christmas gift wrapped in bridal shower paper, but that's My buddy's sense of humor at work. "Truck" really struck a chord with me,as it will with anyone who has ever taken anything apart with the hope of getting it back together. One of those moments was when he'd reached the point of only being able to walk out to the garage and rearrange the tools, then go inside to have a drink and think about it. Man, have I ever been there. There are some similarities with Chris Goodrich's "Roadster", but Jerome is motivated by a sturdy thriftiness, while Goodrich had other issues to deal with. Great book, one of the best gifts I've received and a good addition to the "Auto as Metaphor for Life" section in a gearhead's library.
