Lone Wolf..........2007-09-20
Waylon Jennings gave up his seat to Richie Valens in that fateful plane crash that claimed the lives of Valens, Buddy Holly and the big Bopper. It would not be the last time he skirted death. A fact filled and story filled book that reads like a Waylon Jennings song filled with bravado, heart and longing. One of the original "outlaws" of country music Waylon was above all else his own man and along with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson formed the legendary "Highwaymen". This temperamental artist tells of his many travails with his personal demons and the love of his life, Jessi Colter. Good stuff.
Revealing.......2007-01-16
This is an interesting book for country music enthusiasts as it provides details reaching back to the Bob Wills days, the Buddy Holley times, the horrible drug use in Nashville and some of those involved. I read it with great interest and I keep it handy on my bookshelf.
Great Book about Waylon.......2006-11-05
If you are a Waylong Jennings fan as I am you will love this book. It is true account of Waylons life told by him.
I would highly recommend this book.
Waylon an autobiography.......2006-02-24
Fantastic! A must read for anyone...country music lover or not.
WAYLON RULES!.......2004-11-18
If you are a fan of Ol Waylon! This book covers in detail all that you need to know about Waylon. I laughed and Cried reading that book not because I am huge fan of Waylon. But, also because the stories were well written and to the best of my knowledge looked like Waylon was honest when he wrote the book.
I only hope Jessi Colter write a book as well. that also would be very intersting, Seeing the story from her point of view, and learning about her as an artist and a wonderful human being.

Book Description
A prime source for one of country music's greatest, this closely-documented history follows the musical career of Waylon Jennings--from his early days as a member of Buddy Holly's group, The Crickets, through his sometimes combative relationship with the Nashville musical establishment and his emergence as a viable force in the country music scene, to his current status as a "superstar." Popular music scholars and students as well as country music fans will find this a valuable source of information, not only on Jennings, but on the country music industry. In his foreword to this volume, Johnny Cash describes his friend as "an American original." In addition to his relationship with the Holly organization (he gave up his seat on the plane that would crash shortly after take-off from Mason City, Iowa, in February 1959 killing Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson, The Big Bopper), the Sessions section shows Waylon's association with Willie Nelson, his partnership with Nelson, Cash, and Kris Kristofferson in forming the Highwaymen group, and his success in the rejuvenated country music world. Uncompromised, he continues to produce his own brand of "Waylon Music." The Discography numbers 360 pages, including extensive Releases and Billboard Chart sections, making this a comprehensive reference work. Johnny Cash and Johnny Western both contributed forewords for their great friend and colleague.

Book Description
Guibert of Nogent's account of the First Crusade is an important but difficult chronicle which will be welcomed in this first English translation. It is a valuable addition to Boydell & Brewer's repertoire of crusading material, and is an interesting text because it represents an attempt to produce a critical history from the eyewitness sources - the 'Deeds of the Franks' and Fulker of Chartres' 'History of the Expedition to Jerusalem': in the process it reveals considerable detail on Western attitudes to the First Crusade, and, through Guibert's own bias, on medieval 'mentalites' in general. In this translation, Professor Levine has rendered the difficult and idiosyncratic Latin prose and verse into idiomatic English prose, while preserving as far as possible the constructions favoured by Guibert. In addition, he provides a brief introduction containing biographical and bibliographical information, as well as a summary of the translation. Professor ROBERT LEVINE teaches in the Department of English, Boston University.

Disturbed by such foul arrogance, the emperor instructed them to delay their crossing of the waters of the Arm no longer. Once they had made the crossing, they continued to behave as they had on the other side; those who had taken a vow to fight against the pagans fought against men of our own faith, destroying churches everywhere, and stealing the possessions of Christians. Since they were not subject to the severity of a king, who might correct their errors with judicial strength, nor did they reflect soberly upon divine law, which might have restrained the instability of their minds, they fell to sudden death.

Book Description
This book presents the strengths perspective as the unifying framework of the text to bridge the gap between 12-step approaches and harm reduction in addictions treatment. This perspective is applied to the treatment of alcoholism, eating disorders, compulsive gambling, and other addictions. The biopsychosocial framework is the organizing framework for this text. Divided into four parts, ADDICTION TREATMENT is comprised of three core sections that cover the biology, psychology, and social aspects of addiction respectively.

Addiction Treatment.......2007-09-23
It longer than I expected for the book to arrive and when it did arrive the front cover was bent up. Other than that the book was as advertised.
Addiction Treatment: A strengths perspective.......2007-05-13
This book is written in a clear concise manner which will appeal to students and professionals alike. Each chapter has a clear introduction and summary which details the body of the text. The text itself flows logically with detailed information that is easily comprehensible and supported with credible references and citations that exemplify the vast amount of research complied in this field. Kudos to Van Wormer and Davis, this book demonstrates their dedication to the field of addiction treatment and their personal commitment to allowing the client to be number one, as it should be, in the treatment setting.
Intriguing and Practical.......2006-11-27
I recommend this book for any addiction's class, for any therapist, social worker, and to anyone in this field of study. What I liked most about this book was the pragmatic approach to substance abuse intervention with the harm reduction model. This model of intervention follows well with the strengths perspective. Excellent book.
comprehensive, yet easy to understand.......2006-09-26
This text provides a thorough review of the strengths perspective. It also contains real-life examples that assist the reader in gaining a complete understanding of the topic. I would recommend this book to anyone researching or working in the field of addiction treatment.
just the same drivel.......2006-07-24
Can we please have something NEW published about addictions? This is the same old hat. If you are new to the addiction field, this will be of help. If you know ANYTHING about addictions, this will be a good door stop.

Informative book. I used for my class
Not "business-as-usual" this book will change your practice!.......1998-12-14
I am a substance abuse therapist (part-time) and a Senior Juvenile Court Officer (full-time) for 17 years working with adolescents here in Lansing, Michigan. I am also strength-based (asset-building) in my personal practice approach with teens. I believe that we've heard the call before to work from the successful side, the resilient side of people, but we were never given the techniques as we are now with this book. That is what I see as the most promising aspect of this current strengths movement...the one-two punch of mindset and techniques. Any helping professional owes it to themselves to read this book. It is a real career changer. Most asset-building is aimed at the community level or agency/policy level. I am greatly concerned with asset-building on a one-to-one level of interpersonal work and how this can be used to approach people for more effective work. It looks to what the client can do vs. can't do, what they've been successful at rather than what they've failed at, what they have, vs. what they don't have. It runs counter to the "medical model" of deficit-based work that centers in on "flaw-fixing." I have published several articles and do trainings for raising motivation and cooperation with adolescents in the juvenile justice system through strength-based strategies. Most of my work, and this tremendous change in my practice, came from this book and the first volume published in 1992. Among many methods in my training I use a joke about a drunk man to change mindset. It's an old joke but very applicable: In the middle of the city, a beat cop encounters a drunk, crawling around on his hands and knees seemingly looking for something at night, directly under a street lamp. When the cop stops and inquires what he's doing, the drunk responds, "I'm looking for my car keys that I lost in the bushes!" The cop laughs and says, "Hey buddy, if you lost your keys over there in the bushes, why are you looking here under the street light?" To which the drunk replies indignantly, "Boy are you stupid, it's too dark to look for them over in the bushes!!" Old joke. But, we in the helping professions are so much like the drunk man. We look for the "keys" to clients problems in the area of greatest illumination which is always the PROBLEM, the failures, what's missing, wrong, etc. We have specialized tests to look there, interviewing strategies that look there, that is where all the attention is placed. Yet the "keys" are in the dark, in the "bushes" which certainly represents anyone's strengths, talents, past successes and perseverance (etc.) .............so why no methods to look in these areas? That's where strength-based practice comes in to give methods to elicit and amplify these areas. Check this book out, I believe you'll be thinking and working differently after you finish.
Book Description
Providing an in-depth introduction to community and organizational practice, this macro practice text gives students a philosophical foundation of core macro practice concepts and skills. This text utilizes the strengths perspective as its unifying theoretical model and offers detailed premises and strategies for working with communities and organizations and for promoting social justice. It is presented in structured fashion that is both theoretical and applied in nature and makes use of summaries, key terms and case examples to help students master the content.

Book Description
A continuation of the successful BIRDING BY EAR system for learning bird songs. Just as the original BIRDING BY EAR audio introduces listeners to a unique method of learning and remembering bird songs, MORE BIRDING BY EAR employs these proven techniques for ninety-six additional species of birds found east of the Rockies. Walton and Lawson have created learning groups of similar vocalizations and clearly point out distinguishing characteristics, using phonetics, mnemonics, and other memory aids. MORE BIRDING BY EAR will increase your skill and enjoyment in the field by helping you learn the vocalizations of twenty-five species of warblers, all of the North American rails, and an assortment of terns, other waterbirds, and passerines. Many shorebird call notes are also included. Combine the auditory instruction here with the visual features of the Peterson Identification System. Page numbers in MORE BIRDING BY EAR's booklet refer to species descriptions in the PETERSON FIELD GUIDE TO BIRDS OF EASTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH AMERICA, fifth edition.
Customer Reviews:
big help.......2007-05-14
this CD is perfect, it is a compliment to Birding by Ear and having both of these is invaluable to learning the calls of the birds I see and hear in my area. I had heard the CD at my local Audabon shop and almost bought them there, Amazon was $10. cheaper and I bought both CD's. They are a joy to listen to and are very helpful to me.
For the Hard Core Bird Lover.......2007-01-11
I purchased the Birding by Ear cd collection as well as this one. I prefer the first, simply because it features more of my favorite bird friends; however, this, like the first one, is set up in a very easy to listen to and learn manner. Very soothing voice along with the song bird calls and songs - how can you go wrong?
Quick, three beers!.......2005-07-13
I've been listening to the predecessor of "More Birding by Ear," i.e. "Birding by Ear (Eastern and Central North America)" for over a year now, and the music-processing regions in my brain are finally sorting the symphony of bird song in the woods and swamps around our house into individual melodies. I strongly recommend that you start with Walton and Lawson's "Birding by Ear" as it has recorded the songs and calls of eighty-five common species. "More Birding by Ear" provides recordings of ninety-six additional Eastern and Central North American species, many of them, such as the shore birds, not often heard outside of their specialized habitats.
For most people, bird calls may produce nothing more than a song that is hard to get out of the head. These two three-CD sets will help them make sense of those songs. I was so encouraged by the calls I had learned from these CDs that I signed up as a volunteer for the Michigan Breeding Bird Atlas. So far I've identified forty-one birds in my 'priority block,' many of them by song alone.
I don't know whether I'll actually ever see a Red-eyed Vireo, an Oven Bird, or a Veery but I hear them almost every day now, calling from the forest canopy or deep in the swamp, or echoing eerily down the river at dusk.
Yet oddly enough, once I've identified a bird call on the CD, such as "More Birding by Ear's" Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, I begin to see Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers everywhere. Location by song must be giving my eyes a kick start. Now I'm beginning to suspect they're one of the commonest woodpeckers in our neighborhood!
The narrative that accompanies the bird song on these CDs will both entertain and inform you. Who will ever be able to forget the song of the Olive-Sided Flycatcher once it is translated into the catch-phrase, "Quick, three beers!"
If you're serious about your birding, and want to identify birds by song, as well as by binoculars and field guides, these CDs are priceless.
VERY HELPFUL.......2004-10-15
MORE BIRDING BY EAR is the follow-up to BIRDING BY EAR. BIRDING BY EAR presented 85 species of birds. MORE BIRDING BY EAR presents 96 additional species. MORE BIRDING BY EAR follows the same format as BIRDING BY EAR. Species are grouped according to similar types of vocalizations. Primary songs and calls are presented. In some cases, other songs and calls are also presented. Vocalizations are analyzed, and comparisons are made to other, similar sounding birds. Phonetics and tips are suggested to help the listener to remember the vocalizations. It is suggested that you complete BIRDING BY EAR before going on to MORE BIRDING BY EAR.
Species included in More Birding by Ear are:
DISK 1: Sora, Virginia Rail, Clapper Rail, King Rail, Yellow Rail, Black Rail, Pied-billed Grebe, Least Bittern, Common Moorhen, American Coot, Wood Duck, Great Blue Heron, Marsh Wren, Least Flycatcher, Acadian Flycatcher, Willow Flycatcher, Alder Flycatcher, Indigo Bunting, Blue Grosbeak, Pine Siskin, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Winter Wren, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Common Nighthawk, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Evening Grosbeak, Osprey, Northern Saw-whet Owl, Black-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Fish Crow, Common Raven, Swainson's Thrush, Bicknell's Thrush, Boat-tailed Grackle, Rusty Blackbird, American Pipit, Horned Lark.
DISK 2: Prairie Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler, Golden-winged Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Cerulean Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, Palm Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Mourning Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Louisiana Waterthrush, Swainson's Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Canada Warbler, Yellow-breasted Chat, Savannah Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow, Bachman's Sparrow, Henslow's Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow, Seaside Sparrow, Common Loon, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Blue-headed Vireo.
DISK 3: Lesser Yellowlegs, Greater Yellowlegs, Short-billed Dowitcher, Long-billed Dowitcher, Black-Bellied Plover, American Golden-Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Spotted Sandpiper, Whimbrel, Upland Sandpiper, Willet, Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Sanderling, Pectoral Sandpiper, Common Snipe, Royal Tern, Caspian Tern, Common Tern, Forster's Tern, Least Tern.
At the end of DISK 3 is a "test." All 96 species are grouped by habitat. The songs and calls are presented, but in a different order from the learning groups. The listener is not told which bird he is listening to. This can be frustrating at first, but is also a good way to learn. I found that the first few times through, I missed practically all of them. But bit-by-bit, I began to identify some of the calls. As I mastered more of the calls, it became easier and easier for me to identify the remaining ones.

Most birdsong CDs/tapes are lengthy "lists" of birdsongs. The "Birding by Ear" series is a unique tutorial that teaches you to recognise and recall birdsongs. If you want to learn to identify birds by their songs and calls this is the product for you! "More Birding by Ear" includes many of the Eastern warblers as well as shorebirds, flycatchers, rails and other groups.
