The book I ordered thru Amazon arrived very promptly and it was in perfect condition. This is what I hoped and expected.
Thanks,

Great book. Read it slowly........2007-05-11
A very good book. Read it slowly so that the content can sink in. There is no secret, only a gained understanding of who you are in Christ, what that means, and how it affects your life.
Poor Book.......2007-03-27
This is a very hard book to follow. The writing seems to jump around and at times it does not make a whole lot of sence. If you want a straight foward book this is not the one for you.
Antiques are not just for furniture--Wisdom too!.......2007-01-27
This is an incredible little jewel. The different perspectives and searches illustrate that the Bible is grounded in timeless truth. As I read the different perspectives, I walked and talked with the writers. The timeless wisdom reached from the 1800's to 2007. They truly did find the secret and now, I have as well.
The Secret Revealed.......2006-07-03
This book is an excellent compilation of stories of those who indeed found the secret. In brief, these biographical sketches reveal the essence of living the life of Christ: dying to self that Christ might live his life through us. As a believer, to see this central theme portrayed in different ways in the lives of those who have gone on before us, is a source of much encouragement. Our journey in the faith finds context in theirs and we are thus affirmed in our own quest for the secret. A book to be highly recommended.

Powerful book on appropriating the Power of God.......2005-09-30
If you are a Christian who has longed to see the power of God demonstrated in his life, please read this book. As Believers, we tend to look at the working of the Holy Spirit through denominational glasses. This book simply tells the transformation of 20 simple Believers into dynamic, world-changing, Holy Spirit empowered men of God. I had been a Believer 18 years when I read this book. It started me on a Spiritual journey that radically changed my life. That was 38 years ago. The "radical change" gave me an insatiable hunger for God's Word, the Holy Bible, a discipline to spend devotional time with God in Prayer every day, a minute by minute walk with Jesus Christ, and a great joy in sharing the Gospel with others.
I thank God for this book and V. Raymond Edman.

Rescued by the Angels.......2000-08-17
This well-written book is a "must-read" for anyone who is interested in U.S. military actions in the Pacific during WWII. Angels at Dawn tells the little-known story of the February 1945 rescue by 11th Airborne Division paratroopers and Filipino guerillas of American civilians and other nationalities who were being held by the Japanese in a prison camp at Los Banos on the Philippine Island of Luzon. This book does a better job than many dealing with the Pacific war in explainining why prisoners of the Japanese were at much risk. In part this was due to the threat of starvation and disease, but also because during the latter stages of the war in 1945, Japanese murders of prisoners increased as Allied troops advanced. Against this backdrop the author, who was a member of the 11th Airborne Division during the 1945 fighting in the Philippines, recounts how General MacArthur called on the "Angels" as the division was nicknamed, to mount a hazardous parachute and ground assault behind enemy lines to rescue the prisoners at Los Banos before starvation or Japanese violence could take their lives. As a former soldier who served in Korea, this book reminded me once again of how important the actions of U.S. military forces were during the 20th Century. We live in a better world because of what they did. Angels at Dawn tells the story of one of those actions, which resulted not so much in the destruction of the enemy, but in the preservation of the lives of American civilians, and other foreign nationals.
Book Description
To the surprise of many, George W. Bush pledged $10 billion to combat AIDS in developing nations. Noted specialist Susan Hunter tells the untold story of AIDS in Africa, home to 80 percent of the 40 million people in the world currently infected with HIV. She weaves together the history of colonialism in Africa, an insider's take on the reluctance of drug companies to provide cheap medication and vaccines in poor countries, and personal anecdotes from the 20 years she spent in Africa working on the AIDS crisis. Taken together, these strands make it unmistakably clear that a history of the exploitation of developing nations by the West is directly responsible for the spread of disease in developing nations and the AIDS pandemic in Africa. Hunter looks at what Africans are already doing on the ground level to combat AIDS, and what the world can and must do to help. Accessibly written and hard-hitting, Black Death brings the staggering statistics to life and paints for the first time a stunning picture of the most important political issue today.
Customer Reviews:
A MUST-READ for anyone interested in the HIV / AIDS crisis.......2004-02-20
In the first few pages of her book, Susan Hunter explains that HIV / AIDS is the first new disease on our planet since the 1400s; it is the leading infectious disease threat in the world today, outpacing tuberculosis and malaria by 2:1. It is the first disease to be considered a global threat to both national and international security. By 2010, the global human death toll from this disease will be higher than the COMBINED casualties of WWI, WWII, the Civil War, the Bolshevik Revolution, the first Chinese Communist War, the Spanish Civil War, the Taiping Rebellion, the Great War in La Plata and the partition of India. Every 18 months, more people die from HIV / AIDS than during the Holocaust. In some parts of Africa, they literally are running out of land to bury the bodies.
Ms. Hunter, with her years of experience working with the UN on Africa, is in a unique position to offer an assessment of the effects of this disease on that continent as well as predictions of its spread globally.
In the United States, many have become complacent about HIV / AIDS, believing that this is a disease which can be controlled with a few pills -- and as a result, HIV / AIDS infection is on the rise in the U.S. once again. Ms. Hunter's descriptions bring the realities of HIV / AIDS back into sharp, painful focus. This remains a terminal illness: in the U.S., HIV / AIDS mortality is back on the rise, as many develop complications with / from their medication treatments.
Ms. Hunter's book reminds us that if we do not take action in the areas of disease prevention, education, and access to basic health care, we will face a Holocaust each year as a result of HIV / AIDS. Even in the U.S. where many have access to the medications, HIV / AID has become the leading cause of death among 18-34 year olds, as well as the third leading cause of death AMONG ALL AGE GROUPS in the U.S.

In The Snow Geese, a model of artful, elegant prose, William Fiennes, a young convalescent, follows migrating snow geese on their annual 3,000 mile journey to the Arctic Circle. Fiennes's own journey, a wide loop he hopes will return him to his pre-illness life, is no less arduous.
Fiennes travels to south Texas, and leapfrogs the birds--by car, bus, train, snowmobile, and foot--en route to their nesting grounds on Baffin Island. His journey's log is freckled with pungent lessons on avian orientation, the Northern Lights, and the sport of curling as well as portraits of birdwatchers, former hobos, backyard inventors, and Inuit hunters. Most moving are his meditations on restlessness--the primal, contradictory human impulses to leave and return and leave and return.
Its prose crystalline and illuminating, its double-helix narrative intricate, The Snow Geese is a rare and painfully lovely work. --H. O'Billovitch
Book Description
Every year, millions of geese embark on a three-thousand-mile migration from their winter quarters in the southern United States to their breeding grounds in the Canadian Arctic. Intrigued by what he’d read about the birds’ amazing annual journey, and desperate to emerge from a period of illness, William Fiennes decided to go with them.
The story of his voyage turns out to be about a great deal more than geese. The arc of Fiennes’s extraordinary trip is the backbone of a narrative rich in meditations on philosophy and natural science, and deeply perceptive in its descriptions of both physical and emotional travel.
Customer Reviews:
Intriguing journey bogs down in the details.......2007-02-06
The author is a gifted writer. He is very observant and skilled in describing his surroundings. This strength, however, is also his downfall. He paints a word picture of nearly every situation he encountered--often in excrutiating detail. Frankly, it begins to get tedious. In addition, while I generally enjoy tales this this one, I found it hard to connect with him. There's a detached, flat affect quality to his writing. He's not passionate, just obsessed. I tried to like him and feel the power of his journey, but just couldn't get excited about it.
There is something about geese,.......2005-05-23
... travelling the lengths of continents and seeking those conditions most favourable for living and reproducing. William Fiennes travelled with the wild geese of North America but the phenomenon he describes is equally evident elsewhere in northern latitudes. The arctic (or near arctic) breeding geese are a most important sign of an approaching spring and thaws many a slumbering soul.
This is a gem among books and will surely inspire many a reader as well as relaxing minds to join the journey of the birds.
A very tedious book........2005-04-29
This book could have been written easily in half the pages.
The parts about birds are interesting and informative. As are the parts about him using his journey as rehabilitative therapy. But, my gosh, this writer describes practically everything about everyone and everything he meets- or sees. And these people are not instrumental either to the story or in moving the story along. I mean he's writing about other passengers on buses, bus drivers, and many others and he doesn't interact with the great majority of them. It is useless description that just bogs the story down. And there's some of it, seemingly, on every page.
Even though it is non-fiction, there are ways to create tension. Another book on birds, RED TAILS IN LOVE about the hawks in New York's Central Park was a thrilling story. A real cliffhanger. This SNOW GEESE book is a plodding story.
If it wasn't our book club's book of the month, I wouldn't have finished it. It is one of the most boring books I've read in a long time.
The Snow Geese.......2003-02-23
Book groups in Austin are loving the book. Jean sleeping with St. Joseph and hitting that whizzing forehand in her holy nun garb are delightful stories. We can not wait until Wiliam writes another book to help us all journeying to find home. He is a most gifted writer and sensitive author. I hope it becomes a movie someday.
From Broughton Castle to the wilds of the Snow Geese.......2002-07-22
William Fiennes has just taken me on a trip from his boyhood home,Broughton Castle in England,to Texas and from there 3000 miles north to the nesting lands of the Snow Geese. This extremely well written book will capture the imagination of those who read it.His thorough, very descriptive, account of his journey and the people he met,and sites he saw along the way, kept my interest from beginning to end. This book is more than just about Geese. It contains tender ,heart warming, messages for all.Congratulations to you,William,on your first book and it's widespread appeal.
Book Description
A curious story involving not only the Snow Goose, the Canada-bred wanderer of the airways, but also a couple and their travels. In print in this small hardcover gift format since 1941.
Customer Reviews:
This story will inspire and move you.......2007-10-09
I had borrowed this book from the library when I was reading William Fiennes' book, The Snow Geese. He mentioned that the story had inspired him to embark on his epic journey to follow the snow geese from their wintering grounds in Texas to their breeding grounds in the Foxe Peninsula. I was so moved by this story that I had to have a copy for myself. Get this book - I know you'll be glad you did! And when you read it, you'll see why it is still being published, 66 years after it was first published in 1941. That it has stood the test of time is a testament to the masterpiece that it is.
This book is really not written for children. I don't know why they keep saying that it's for kids. I suppose it's because of the lovely illustrations in it. However, the reading level is for young adults and adults. There's another book titled THE SNOW GOOSE AND OTHER STORIES. That book is written for young children and it's the same story, just rewritten for junior readers.
This book provided a bridge to my grandfather.......2007-07-11
My poppa fought in WWII and, as was typical, never spoke of it.
But he used to read me this book and it was one of the ways I could somehow connect with him.
Years later, after he had died, I was driving down to Apollo Bay to go surfing - it was summer and I had the radio on listening to the cricket on the ABC. During the lunch break they played a reading of the Snow Goose by Ruth Cracknell. And as I kept dipping down in the hills past Whittlesea I would keep losing reception, reconnectig again on the rise.
In the end I stopped my car on a hill looking out over Bass Strait just to listen.
It is a beautiful story, one that should be read out loud, respectfully.
Absolutely perfect.......2007-05-12
I read this book as a teenager and it has stayed in my heart ever since. It is a masterpiece. Not a word too long or too short, and the language and imagery absolutely sing.
I recently read it to a class of middle-schoolers. Not being a teacher, and knowing that the events of WW2 are even more distant for them than for me, I was a little concerned about how they would receive it.
I needn't have worried--they were spellbound; I'm not sure that anyone actually breathed. They were fascinated to learn about Dunkirk and the extraordinary flotilla of little boats that bravely sailed the Channel to fetch the soldiers, and they loved the yearning tenderness of the story. The discussion afterwards was thoughtful beyond anything I could have imagined.
There are a few books that I buy over and over again as gifts. This is one of them.
A timeless tale.......2007-02-17
I happily used this book to teach the main ingredients of the short story. I frequently give it as a gift. Living near a Federal Refuge and knowing the snow goose well make this such a wonderful example because the Essex setting is so similar to the Forsythe Refuge. The story is timeless, as are the characters. There are lessons within for all of us. The historical aspect of the book is often new to children, who may not be familiar with Dunkirk.
Poignant story.......2006-09-03
The Snow Goose is a beautifully written book that lingers in the memory long after the hour or so that it takes to read. Set on the coast of England at the time of Dunkirk, it is less about the strife of WWII itself than about its three main characters - one of whom is the snow goose - and what binds them. It is a story about nature, love, and nobility of spirit. To say more would be to give too much away. But it has had a place on my bookshelf for decades, and I reread it when I need to be reminded what is important in life.

Customer Reviews:
Cuteness not worth the irresponsible message.......2007-03-06
I really didn't appreciate this book's portrayal of anthropomorphic duck children ignoring a no-skating sign to much fun and no consequence. Sure, sometimes people imprudently ignore safety warnings without sustaining any physical harm, but that's not a message I want to emphasize to my preschooler.
Cute book, but questionable .......2007-01-07
Ducks skating -- it doesn't get much more fun or cute than that, and this what attracted the book to me for our kids. While the artwork and the majority of the story is quite fun, it is unfortunate that the author made the decision to make it seem funny for the ducks to very deliberately disregard/disobey a potentially dangerous warning sign (even if the sign is poorly/inaccurately written) with no consequence -- except for additional fun. While I realize this is merely a children's book and not to be taken too seriously, my bet is that the majority of parents reading this book to their young children would most definitely not appreciate this subtle message this sends.
If it's a Lynne Berry book, it's a winner........2007-01-04
Lynne Berry, Duck Skates (Henry Holt, 2005)
It's kind of hard to believe that the same Lynne Berry who was responsible for The Curious Demise of a Contrary Cat wrote this lovely, lighthearted little book as well. I mean, sure, there's the same excellent wordplay, the same mastery of poetry (which Berry does better than many writers of adult books of formal verse), the same sense of whimsy. But, really, no one gets turned into a frog. There should be more books where other beings get turned into frogs.
Lack of biological transmutation aside, if you're looking for a birthday present for your preschooler, it's pretty hard to go wrong with Lynne Berry. The story, ostensibly, is about five ducks who go skating. Yes, the title of the book is quite informative in that regard. But what's going on beneath the surface here is a deep-rooted appreciation for numbers and the wonderful things you can do with them. And Berry takes her five ducks and sections them up in just about every way you can think of. Kids are not only getting an interesting, easy-to-follow story (with super-cute Hiroe Nakata illustrations), but a basic math primer at the same time.
Definitely one for the permanent library. ****
A picture book that will make kid AND parent happy.......2006-04-20
Five fun and slightly cheeky companions enjoying a snowy day, their adventures told in snappy text and delightful pictures. Duck Skates has everything it takes to engage a small child, and then goes a step further with lovely cadence. Here is a book written by someone who understands that picture books are read ALOUD. It rolls off the tongue beautifully, making it a joy for both parent and child.
And the math is so cleverly tucked in there, neither of you will feel a thing.
Parent-Teacher.......2006-01-19
I am a parent and a Preschool teacher in Ann Arbor, MI where the author LYNNE BERRY came to share her book with our school. As a teacher I can tell you the children totally loved the book, excellent rhyming words, great story and wonderfull illustrations. The author did an awesome job with the children (crafts and movement activities).
As a mom, I purchased the book for my child and she loves it so much, she asks us to read it to her one and one more time. Because she likes it so much I got her little rubber ducks to go along with the story. She really enjoys the book!!!

Lovely for the ears and the eyes........1999-12-13
This is one of those books we found at the library and had to have for our home collection. The lilting text and beautiful illustrations won over both my 2 year old son and me. It's just a lovely, quietly educational book.
So breathtakingly beautiful !.......1999-10-20
This is a beautiful book for children both for its illustration and for its writing. I wish it could reach young readers whose mother tongue is not English. I am thinking of translating it into Chinese language. I wish I could find a way to contact the illustrator or publisher of this book directly.

Book Description
Snow Geese: Grandeur and Calamity on an Arctic Landscape chronicles the fascinating life of the lesser snow goose, from Gulf Coast marshes through the farmlands of the U.S. and Canadian Great Plains to Arctic breeding areas. Snow goose populations have grown dramatically since the mid 20th century; today the lesser snow goose is the most abundant Arctic-nesting goose in the world. Its abundance has wrought serious and long-term degradation on the Arctic habitats upon which the geese depend for sustenance. The degradation threatens the future of the snow goose and all the other species of resident and migratory wildlife that share these habitats. Snow Geese: Grandeur and Calamity on an Arctic Landscape is intended to help the reader understand the causes and consequences of these changes as well as the spectacular beauty of the snow goose and the places in which it lives. That task is made easier by 100 photographs that illustrate this book, photographs taken by some of North America's best wildlife photographers and by students and scientists that know these birds intimately. (10 3/4 x 8 1/4, 96 pages, color photos)

Great book: beautiful and educational.......1999-06-25
Batt has brought together some inportant and educational information along with some of the most beautiful waterfowl pictures I have seen. This book is a straightforward, easy read that looks great on the coffee table. I will send this one to a friend. Wonderful book for any waterfowl lover, and a great value to boot.
Book Description
Postulating a new
technique—feather mineral pattern analysis—for determining the geographic origins and distributions of wild goose populations, this book makes a unique contribution to wildlife research and management.
Of special interest are the authors’ efforts to relate feather mineral concentrations to the physical and chemical translocations of mineral elements from the rock substrates of the various breeding grounds of wild geese, to the soils and the parts of the ecosystems in which they live, to their final deposition in feather keratin.
