Ordained minister and "spiritual life counselor" Iyanla Vanzant doesn't know the exact moment when her soul opened up "and the spirit of the divine entered [her] body." But she will always remember the key insight that opened the door to her soul and simultaneously locked the door to her insanity: "If you know who walks beside you, you can never be afraid." This is the premise from which Vanzant has launched her enormously successful 40-day, spiritual self-help program. One Day My Soul Just Opened Up is designed as day-by-day journal/workbook to help readers believe in a divine presence while pondering daily spiritual lessons such as simplicity, peace, compassion, and nonjudgement.
The charismatic Vanzant (whom Oprah Winfrey considers to be one of the world's most admirable spiritual leaders) has a gift for humble, tell-it-like-it-is talk. She is also a wise and warm soul, eager to help others trust in love and find a relationship with God in order to get on with their lives. Readers especially like her daily list of inspirations titled "Let Me Remember." For example, under day 23, "When You Feel Angry," she uses the list to remind readers: "All things work to bring me healing"; "Forgiveness will provide relief and release"; and "Love will heal anything that is not an expression of love." --Gail Hudson

Perception Shift.......2007-09-24
My first thoughts were that this would be an inspiration book that would give me tidbit information that I could incorporate in my life here and there. Was I pleasantly surprised how Iyanla framed this helpful information. She allows you to look at her life and how she came to certain realizations. I prefer this method. It is always helpful to know that others are practicing what they preach. So I recommend you order this book with an open mind, really apply the principles to your daily life and your perception will change...because the energy you give off will be different. I will continue to re-read this book. I have bought this book for many friends because it is just that helpful! I see my actions and my perception of life differently and in a more spiritual sense.I say, all you need to come in with, is a desire to analyze yourself...forget about Iyanla as a great author,or tv personality. This book is about being a better you and purchasing this book is a great start!
Spiritual strength.......2007-07-12
For someone like me that has just searched a lifetime for some kind of meaning to our existance, this book is astounding. It is enlightening to discover that there are others that also become lost in the search in so that they stop searching---or so they think they do! Well worth the read.
Life changing.......2007-04-24
I read this book six years ago. It was my last year living in a hopeless marriage of my youth. Married at 19 to someone I barely knew, I was desperate, lost, and terribly afraid of what would happen if my family knew how miserable I was.
I read the book, and found the courage to leave, to live honestly, and to take on the threats of my soon to be ex-husband. My brother called me a disgrace, my ex-husband called me an unfit mother, and still I stood my ground. I made it through, and won in the courtroom battle. No longer would he dominate and terrorize me. Years later my brother apologized. Truth wins in the end. You just have to stand with your feet firmly planted in it.
One day I read this book.. and I know when my soul opened up. It was probably already there.. in me.. that fire, that courage. But when I read this book something changed, and it became action. My pride and fear no longer controlled me. Honestly about my feelings, honestly about my mistakes, and honestly about my dreams and future won over despair and weakness.
Maybe that sounds all flowery and poetic to you. Unbelievable because it's too easy to type... and hard to live. That's okay, I would have been skeptical too.
Buy the book, read it, and then see if you don't do something poetic because of it.
40 days of introspection.......2007-04-06
Good book to read and review your life with. All the lessons are indepth and stir-up feelings and introspection. I would have liked more biblical principles added. All her books are great, but they miss something with me.
I love Iyanla!.......2007-04-03
I haven't been disappointed yet. Her books always speak to my spirit and I enjoy reading them, they help you along your path of spiritual growth as well as personal growth. I usually read my books and pass them on..but not these!

Ready to be revived?.......2007-05-11
Iyanla has written many books about spiritual and personal growth, and I have just about all of them. This one really touched me, because I could relate to it. It gives you motivation to change, encouragement to move up higher.
Uplifting.......2006-02-21
This a good kick start (or re-start in my case) to exploring your spirituality. Iyanla is an amazing writer and her down to earth style is the most appealing feature of her writing style. Kudos!
This book is the forbidden fruit, ladies!.......2003-09-23
I know this author is commercially successful & I am politically incorrect but I don't care. Somethings must be said.
This book is wonderfully written and sounds very, very good on the surface. All you have to do is be no more than moderately knowledge about the Holy Scriptures and, like me, you can see the real horror of this book.
I know this author is very popular with Oprah Winfrey and women are are "searching" for meaning in their lives. But don't be fooled! This is just ancient new age philosophy re-marketing thru a contemporary African American female. Nothing more.
If readers are so stuck on the publications of this author, then go to the true New Age sources like Rumi or Buddha. The writing is better and the books are less expensive than Ms. Vanzant's.
Just see for yourself. Good day.
Ms. Vanzant is amazing.......2000-12-14
Ms. Vanzant is not "gleaning ideas from many different religions which worship what the Bible refers to as "fasle gods" (this includes the worship of "self"), combining all the concepts she likes, and discarding the rest." When she says the worhship of self, she simply means to love yourself and view yourself as important. She is not meaning worship in the true literal sense of the word like worshipping God. This book is amazing like her others, and makes me feel better when I read it, like I am where I should be to learn and grow, even if I don't like the situation I am in.
A Vital Stopover on your journey to peace........2000-05-10
I did NOT hear the abridged version - I got the 3-CD set and play it in my car. Everytime I listen, I gain something new from it. Ms. Vanzant is soothing, spiritual, and streetwise earthy all at the same time. A woman I would be proud to call a friend...or in this case, a teacher. Thank you, Ms. Vanzant, for getting me through a painful, painful time and helping me be better on the other side. Thank you for sharing your gift and inspiring me to share mine.

Book Description
It has been called the most amazing and unbelievable aircraft of the 20th century. One look at the bat-like lines of the USAF's stealthy B-2 Spirit bomber quickly confirms this. But that futuristic shape has lineage back to the 1940s when the Northrop Company designed and built the B-35 and B-49 models Ð aircraft that closely resembled this 1990s flying wing version. Granted, the B-2 development program has had to endure a rocky road, but it is now here, and even though in smaller numbers than many desired, it will still present a formidable presence in the 21st century., over 150 color and b/w photographs, 8 1/2" x 11"
Customer Reviews:
Great.......1999-06-05
This is the most informative and detailed book there is. The photos are amazing and very graphic. This book is 5 out of 5 stars any day. I urge you to buy this book. Now I know almost everything to know about the B-2. Thank You.
Buy it for the photos, not the writing.......1999-04-01
The author tries to write in a "conversational" style, but it comes across only as bad writing. Also, the author occasionally contradicts himself, but I think this is due more to bad writing than conflicting information.
However, the author did a decent job of gathering a fair amount of non-classified information, and the book has an excellent collection of photos.
Despite the poor writing, the book is interesting and provides an adequate overview, and I would recommend it to anyone curious about the B-2
Book Description
As Americans face the ongoing war against terrorists and their state sponsors around the world, Sean Hannity reminds us we must also cope with the continuing scourge of accommodation and cowardice at home. With his trademark blend of passion and hard-hitting commentary, he urges Americans to recognize the dangers of putting our faith in toothless "multilateralism" when the times call for decisive action. He believes that only through strong defense of our freedoms, at home and around the world, can we preserve America's security and liberty in the dangerous twenty-first century.
"Evil exists," Hannity believes. "It is real, and it means to harm us." Tracing a direct line from Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin through Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, he reminds us of the courage and moral clarity of our great leaders. And he reveals how the disgraceful history of appeasement has reached forward from the days of Neville Chamberlain and Jimmy Carter to corrupt the unrepentant leftists of the modern Democratic Party -- from Howard Dean and John Kerry to Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Hannity's first blockbuster book, the New York Times bestseller Let Freedom Ring, cemented his place as the freshest and most compelling conservative voice in the country. As host of the phenomenally successful Hannity & Colmes and The Sean Hannity Show, Hannity has won a wildly devoted fan base. Now he brings his plainspoken, take-no-prisoners style to the continuing War on Terror abroad -- and liberalism at home -- in Deliver Us from Evil.

"
Talk-show giant and New York Times-bestselling author Sean Hannity -- widely recognized as the most popular young conservative voice in the country -- takes on evil in all its forms: from the growing threats of overseas terror, to the ongoing moral degradation of the American way of life, to the upcoming presidential campaign and its implications.
Nearly three years have passed since that tragic day in September. Since then, our wounds have healed, but our senses and memories have dulled.
At first, the nation rallied behind its leader. But by the time the confrontation with Iraq presented itself, our courage and moral certainty seemed to fade in the face of partisan bickering and posturing.
Now the political left and the Democratic Party are trying to use the demanding aftermath of the war to exploit our national cause for their own political advantage.
How could we allow ourselves to forget so soon?
--from Deliver Us from Evil
Sean Hannity's first blockbuster book, the New York Times bestseller Let Freedom Ring, cemented his place as the freshest and most compelling conservative voice in the country. As the host of the phenomenally successful Hannity & Colmes on the Fox News Channel and The Sean Hannity Show on ABC Radio, Hannity has won a wildly devoted fan base. Now he brings his plainspoken, take-no-prisoners style to the continuing War on Terror abroad -- and liberalism at home -- in Deliver Us from Evil.

You will notice.......2007-09-07
You will notice that by trolling through the reviews of this book, all the negative ones written by liberals are nothing more then one or even a few sentences that can only be classified as a rant. There are a few that are a couple of paragraphs in length, but that's the best of the liberal lot.
However, all the reviews by people who agree with Sean just happen to write long reviews that actually delve into the book and analyze the ideas and opinions it presents.
It is obvious that the left wing haters who "rated" this book never even read it. How Sad.
Hannity Wuvz Bush.......2007-08-07
Yep, it's true, and basically, it comes to say that Sean Hannity is yet another conservative scumbag that worships the man and thinks that liberals are terrorists. Plus, the guy's on FOX News, the channel that despite its slogan "Fair and Balanced", leans over to one side and is up to the brim with bias and lies. Hannity is a liar, a hypocrite, basically he's one that basically follows the road of terror that Bush crafted. If you can take one word he utters in this book seriously, you need help.
Misinformation and emotional retardation.......2007-04-04
The author Sinclair Lewis said, "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross." I think even Lewis would be surprised by the transparent tactics Hannity uses to pose as a holy patriot, while he serves the super rich who are warring against the US working class, persecuting ecocide, and committing human rights abuses the world over. Hannity knows he doesn't have to honestly discuss issues, as the audience he appeals to is wedded to the military State; thus, they are often quite willing to be deceived about the alleged righteousness of their crusade for corporate profits. War is a force that gives some people meaning, to paraphrase the title of a serious book by Christopher Hedges.War Is a Force that Gives Us Meaning
Fortunately, the American people are being delivered from Hannity's evil. Every day, more people are discovering the radio shows and books of Thom Hartmann, Amy Goodman and Ed Schultz.Screwed: The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class -- And What We Can Do About It (BK Currents) Static: Government Liars, Media Cheerleaders, and the People Who Fight Back Straight Talk from the Heartland: Tough Talk, Common Sense, and Hope from a Former Conservative
Even those who have been "Hannitized" or "Limbaughtomized" are tuning in and considering all sorts of issues and perspectives that the establishment media consistently avoids.
Bringing Hannity even more shame is his endlessly abusive attitude towards anybody who dares to think or act outside "the Fox." He models an authoritarian temper that only the architects and the mental slaves of a strict hierarchy would enjoy. His style brings to mind this quote from Henry Clay, "The arts of power and its minions (like Hannity) are the same in all countries and in all ages. It marks its victim; denounces it; and excites the public odium and the public hatred to conceal its own abuses and encroachments."
Hannity appears to be beyond redemption. His fear keeps him in place. If he ever turned his back on the monied interests he serves, they'd destroy him. As "The Sopranos" and countless other mafia programs tell us - "don't cross the family." But I have faith that people will find and pass along the sort of progressive media resources that will help free ourselves from the satanic media that Hannity represents.
Simplistic And Un-Objective.......2007-03-20
Sean Hannity is one of the louder members of the radical right chorus that continues to promote the "right" way in which Americans should live. We know the roster well, and there is indeed little difference between Hannity's writings and those of Anne Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. "Deliver Us From Evil" has the same characteristics as the above mentioned commentators' works in that it's plain, a quick read and offers numerous arguments in favor of an America that only exists in the mind of Sean Hannity and his devoted fans. The usual bashing of gays, "liberals" and everyone else Hannity perceives as "enemies" are all here, so fans will not be disappointed. For students of history what brings down Hannity's book is his atrocious treatment of recent American history. Hannity glorifies Ronald Reagan to the point of making him a deity, and actually defends Oliver North and Iran-Contra while actually having the cojones to praise the Monroe Doctrine (at one point Hannity says of Reagan, "the Monroe Doctrine meant something to Mr. Reagan"). Essentially Hannity, who has never served a day in combat or ever resided in a war-torn nation, condones the bullying and raiding of other nations for purely idealogical means. Mr. Hannity apparently still believes the Reagan line that Nicaragua, which resides under Mexico and after El Salvador, is a mere two day drive away from Texas. But then again, Hannity has appeared on Fox News insisting that Iraq had WMDs. In other sections of the book Hannity goes on tirades based on slim facts on everything from God to immigrants (Hannity uses his Irish ancestry as an excuse to go after current immigrants crossing into the United States). And all of it is framed by a very dry, monotone writing style. "Deliver Us From Evil" offers nothing of real value to those who seek real, detailed reading on current events, the book doesn't even serve as a useful tool for social analysis. Hannity tries to instruct us on very dire, important issues with little experience, expertise or insight. Men like Newt Gingrich of course use the man to open their "tours" and speeches because he has garnered an impressive radio audience composed of really the only type of people who could take this kind of book seriously. The saddest aspect of "Deliver Us From Evil" is that Hannity, like his comrades, does not appear to have the imagination or spirit to actually move forward into the future, instead he remains locked to a nostalgic 80's past that never existed. For Hannity the Reagan era was the Golden Age, for many it was the beginning of the true corporate sacking of America, and for Latin America it was a bloody era filled with state-sponsored terrorism. His solutions, like Pat Buchanan's and O'Reilly's, are not to face the challenges of the future, but to remain locked to a past, a past corrupted by their legalistic, radical idealism. The most dangerous aspect of this kind of propaganda is that it only serves the divide the nation instead of unifying it into a true, working culture that will advance. "Deliver Us From Evil" is empty in skill, and empty in ideas.
FINALLY!!!.......2007-01-23
Finally someone, in this case Sean Hannity, is able to cut through the liberal domination of the published world and drop some truth grenades on the battlefield of America. You say Liberalism I say Terrorism. In fact I can't tell the difference. It's the liberals who have declared jihad on the wombs of America's women. It is Liberals who strapped their [...] bombs to their bleeding hearts and blew up the church of marriage. And it is liberals who flew the plane into the second tower. I've heard one of the pilots was a 3rd cousin of Al Gore. Sean Hannity delivers us from evil...now if he could only get my pizza here on time.

Book Description
This beautifully bound collection is not just for birders, though birders will love it. Ann Taylor's humorous and evocative reflections who do it are no more just about birds than Thoreau's Walden is just about a pond. Taylor chronicles her fascinating life as a curious and devoted amateur bird-wather and nature-lover who has traveled the world in pursuit of her passion. along the way, she also delves into many subjects of interest to the over 50 million American birders - identification....songs...names...migration methods...and the watchers themselves.

The Mystery of Birds Explained.......2001-01-01
Anyone who has paused to watch a bird in flight or resting on a branch can understand the spiritual significance birds had to ancient Indian tribes. Their presence seems eternal, and the mere mortal in us hopes that by observing them, we will learn the secrets to our existence. What else could explain the liberal references to birds in literature from Chaucer to Heaney?
Now, in her book of essays, Watching Birds: Reflections on the Wing, Ann Taylor captures some of those literary references and puts them into modern day perspective for the ordinary mortal venturing into the new millennium. Ann Taylor's book of essays, recalling birds in literature, does, in true De Montaigne style, attempt to explain why birds capture our imagination and compel us to observe them with reverence and awe. ----Marie Coady, columnist, Daily Times Chronicle
A Literary View of Birds.......2000-03-15
This differs from most of the bird books I have reviewed in that it provides literary views of birds and their world. Prof Taylor admits having been fooled by a fake owl, being unable to draw birds, and never mastering the recognition of bird songs. Yet, she takes great pleasure in both real and literary birds, sharing that enthusiasm with her students. I found her essays on foreign travel especially interesting because she keenly observed birds, birdwatchers, and customs in England, Italy, Kenya, and India. If you enjoy clearly written essays unified by a love of birds, you should read "Watching Birds" by Ann Taylor.
Could have been more focused.......1999-12-09
The problem with this book is not with the author's prose. She does a marvelous job of telling about her excursions all over the globe, but her details of the birds are at best sketchy and novice. As a avid birdwatcher of anyone wanting to know about true experiences with birds, read a book by Pete Dunne, Roger Tory Peterson, Kenn Kaufman, and others that know their field of expertise. This light hearted affair is easy to read, and it has many interesting travel stories, but that's just it--its a light fare travel journal.
