WELL FOR STARTERS I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY DAUGTHERS BOOK REPORT. SHE HAS NEVER MET CHUCK BUT HEARD ME TELL STORIES ABOUT HIM.
HE'S NUMBER 2 MAN IS KEN GALLACHER ONE OF MY 3 BEST FRIENDS IN THE WORLD AND HAS A CHAPTER ABOUT HIM IN THIS BOOK. KEN GOT CHUCK TO SIGN THE BOOK AS WELL AS HIMSELF. AFTER READING THE BOOK MY DAUGTHER HAS THE SAME GREAT RESPECT FOR MR. NORRIS AS KEN AND I HAVE. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK FOR SMALL PEAKS OF WHAT GREAT THINGS MR. "Against All Odds" is an inspirational and very enjoyable book! It's full of many interesting stories and therefore, it's very easy to read. Chuck Norris' story is motivation to everyone to set goals, visualize the goals and work hard to achieve them. His career makes for a great story, especially hearing about his supportive mother who always told him: "God has plans for you". She was right! The book is full of many celebrity stories, too! From Bruce Lee to Johnny Carson to Bob Barker and Steve McQueen. I wish the book was longer. I hated to see it end. Also, Chuck shares his religious beliefs and his wonderful marriage and children. I have written down his quote: "Positive thinking gets positive results and negative thinking gets negative results". Chuck Norris is a very positive and inspiring person! I highly recommend this great book! You'll love it!

Great bio. I usually don't read bios, but made an exception for Chuck Norris and for Barry Manilow. Also read Doreen Virtue's bio because it was included in one of her angel books.

That said, Chuck's bio is about overcoming obstacles and helping to make the world a better place. I wanted to read his story because I have always liked his movies and got really into the "Walker Texas Ranger" series. I really liked the positive aspects and messages, and the included spiritualism, in the series. I also liked the way the show included respect for and appreciation of the path and knowledge of the American Indian.

Chuck's bio was very interesting and uplifting and included his beginnings through the fairly current times. There are also old through current photos. It's great to read about a celeb that has his head on straight when you see so much tabloid stuff in the supermarkets. It's also great to read about somebody who moves forward in a positive manner to 1)accomplish things, and 2)help others. (No, I don't buy the tabloids anymore, but you cannot help to see the headlines when you're in line to buy your crabmeat in Maryland.)In my opinion, celebs have a big responsibility to the people who look to them as role models, especially the younger people. I am always happy to see a celeb show a positive image to those who would be influenced by him/her.

I find Chuck Norris's story amazing because no matter what anyone else said he worked towards and achieved his goals. An interesting concept of this is how he always shows respect and a smile on his face to everyone he meets, even people who scower at him.

He does this because its a proven fact that if you fight someone's negative attitude with more negativity, nothing will get solved and most likely there will be arguments or maybe even fights. This is one of the many lessons you can learn out of this book, go buy it today. I knew I could learn something out of it and I have learned a lot. I'm glad I bought this book.

Chuck Norris is undoubtedly a stright shooter of high moral character.
It would have been more interesting if he had gone into more detail about his life from childhood to when he started with the martial arts. Bottom line, I did enjoy the book.

This is the story of Chuck Norris. I really enjoyed it and wish everyone would read it. Many know that Chuck was a 6 time undefeated professional world champion of Karate. Many have seem the movies he has made. Most people have seen his TV series, "Walker, Texas Ranger." But other than that we know little of who he really is. Chuck Norris is one of the more down to earth Hollywood types who has had his share of ups and downs.

His story chronicles his life and shows how he dealt with the things that have faced him and his family. Like all of us, he has failed at times. Like all of us, he wishes that he had done somethings differently.

Chucks faith in Christ is evident throughout the book. Yet he doesn't hammer us with it. Many of the projects that were started through Chuck's desire to help people are a direct result of his faith in Christ.

"Against All Odds: My Story," by Chuck Norris is a very engaging book that you will enjoy and find hard to put it down.

Every kid, especially black kids should read this book. They will learn what true struggle is, what teamwork is, what overcoming prejudice and hatred look like. Common white soldiers and their officers who had never seen a black person no less cared about them, came away astounded at the black soldiers' bravery and fortitude in battle. At their strong desire to learn how to read, how to be an independent human. Names like Cold Harbor and Fort Pillow will become almost sacred. This was how modern America was built: On a shared struggle for freedom. For evolution.

In this book Dudly Cornish tells about the role of black troops in the Civil War. This book is one of the most comprehensive accounts of a single section in the Civil War. Until I read this book I had no idea to what extent the black solider played in the war. The union may not have won the war if it were not for those black troops. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the Civil War.

i finished the book today. it has been a wonderful companion, all 288 pages of it. the book features 65 of quindlen's previously told tales, formerly featured in her new york times and newsweek columns during her journalism days.

i loved reading the book--and, starting with the least important reason on my list of important reasons i loved this book--her columns were all of similar lengths, retold in the book in about 4 pages each. because i have a limited attention span, and spend various amounts of time waiting in the car for kids and their activities to begin or end, the book is a perfect front seat companion--helping me make good use of the otherwise wasted waiting time.

i loved the book for lots of other reasons, too. i got to know more about an author i've come to treasure--and discovered a number of things that made me feel proud of her for being the things, and me, for liking her books. turns out quindlen is a catholic mom, feminist trailblazer, democratic idealist in the practical sense. she was the first woman more than a dozen times. she noticed the best, and wrote about it.

I am utterly amazed at how well Anne writes and is able to say the things that should be said. This book was so very thought provoking. Even if you don't agree with everything you certain will come away with a deeper meaning. Man, I wish I could write like she does!!!

As with all her other books of essays, Ms Quindlen doesn't sugarcoat her feelings--you know where she stands. And whether you agree with her take on a subject or not, she always provides opportunity for thought, some nuance or different angle you may not have considered. I enjoy packing the book in my tote or purse, so if I have to wait for an appointment or am grabbing a bite to eat by myself, I can read some Anna Q.

Living Proof.......2004-07-21

I am living proof that one need not agree with Anna on politics to enjoy her writing. As a Republican, I find myself at odds with just about every political stance she takes, but I so admire her style of writing that I want to read on to see how she is going to present her ideas, and I am never disappointed by that presentation. I recommend this book to all aspiring writers as a guide to the craft of essay writing.

Loud and Clear is an outstanding resource for producing an effective presentation. The emphasis on audience analysis, which is so often overlooked, is excellent and will lead you to focus on the things that matter for your presentation. I especially liked the exercises suggested by the authors. Do them; you will learn more about your style of communication and your ability to connect with audiences than you had ever imagined. This book is probably most effective for newer presenters who need a foundation in the building blocks of assembling an effective presentation. But, it will also be instructional and valuable to check the effectiveness of more experienced presenters. Overall Loud and Clear is a concise, well-written recipe for effective presentations

I read this book in 1990, and quite enjoyed it... but in December 2003 I read it again. In the post-9/11 environment, the book remains entertaining, as much for it's subject matter as for it's almost quaint assessment of where Mr. Serling surmised the aviation industry was headed from 1969 forward. There is a lot of reference documentation listed in his Bibliography, which provides a springboard into additional research of air safety and aircrash analysis, and a sizeable exerpt from his very hard-to-find "The Electra Story". In all, it's a very entertaining read, and the overall political incorrectness of the time will leave you chuckling in remembrance.
