Combat Aircraft is a great book.It was one of the first military reference books that I bought.It works great at air shows or just to thumb through it in your spare time(which I like to do).It fits nicely in your pocket and still has the quality of the big books.If you want to look up a bomber,helecopter,or a fighter this is a real handy book.

Small, concise, but hampered by lack of space.......1998-04-27

This is a handy reference to have when reading tales of aviation adventure in WW2. The book itself is small, smaller than those yellow 'used-car value' books, and because of its lack of size it doesn't go into the variants of any particular airplane. What you get is 3 paragraphs of text about a plane, a photograph so you can visualize the plane, and a list of technical specifications such as engine, armament, rate of climb, etc. On the upside, just about every airplane is listed, including those used in the Spanish Civil War. On the downside, you don't get too much depth about each airplane's sub-variants. I feel that if they had made the book itself a bit larger, Jane's would have been able to include a lot more material. Still, there's enough information there to make you feel comfortable with the airplane type and allows you to understand whatever passage you were reading in the WW2 story that prompted you to refer back to this book in the first place.

This is a great book for the person that loves aircraft but doesn't want to carry around a ten pound book. It has a picture of every aircraft it describes. There is two full pages dedicated to each aircraft. All in all it is nice and handy book to have around.

Well balanced book.......2003-11-01

I read this book for my study (Media and Journalism). I really enjoyed it. It's accessibly written for a change and gives a balanced view of how various media have developed in the 20th century. The authors take into account the various viewpoints -economic, social and other- without going to much into details. This makes to book a good introduction, giving its readers a clearcut overview of media developements in the past hundred years or so. Anyone interested in this topic will not regret buying this book.
The only flaw is its complete exclusion of develpements in non-western countries. I for one would liked have read some more on this topic.

Wood ducks were almost hunted to extinction during the turn of the 20th century - but with dedicated biologists and hunters, the duck survived. This book goes into the ecology and natural history of this magnificent bird. Too bad the pictures are in black and white - but the well written text makes up for that - based on real research and field data from all over the wood duck range. A wildlife manager's library is not complete without this book.

This comprehensive research resource contains all information you could possibly want for all waterfowl that appear in the wild on this continent. It is not, and does not read like, a novel. It is straight facts in a logical and thorough layout. This book will be highly prized by hunters, bird watchers and any one else interested in the identification and unique behavior patterns of waterfowl.

Color plates of adults and chicks of both sexes in all color phases, plus juveniles for geese are included. Species identification, migration ranges and patterns, adult and juvenile sizes, breeding territories and behavior, population trends, food habits for all species and major races (11 races of Canada geese - it is incorrect to call them "Canadian") are covered in depth.

I particulary enjoyed the coverage of rare migrating species such as Baikal Teal, Eurasian Green-winged Teal and European wigeon.
