Book Description

This popular resource provides the necessary knowledge to provide comprehensive primary care to children with special needs and their families. It addresses major issues common to the care of all children with chronic conditions including: the role of the primary care provider; the impact of a chronic condition on the child's development and its impact on the family, school issues, ethical and cultural concerns; managing care coordination; transition to adulthood; and the financial resources needed to support the child. The book also identifies specific chronic conditions found in children that necessitate alterations in standard primary care practices as a result of the chronic condition.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for neonatal and pediatric nNPs.......2000-03-30

I've used this book in my graduate level advanced practice nursing course "Primary Care of the High Risk Newborn." It combines what students need to know about the conditions they will see in practices that include children with chronic conditions. It is practicel yet contains enough theory to justify its use at the graduate level.

5 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK.......2002-12-14

This is a CLASSIC reference book on Revolutionary War artifacts!
This one first came out around the time of the bicentennial, and has set the standard from day one. With photographs of original (and in some cases, excavated) and reproduction equipment, this book is a gold mine of information. Where photographs are not available, black and white line drawings by George Woodbridge fill the gap. Woodbridge is one of the BEST illustrators of military subject matter. He captures the details that matter.
Members of the Brigade of the American Revolution were used to further display everyday items used by 18th century soldiers. Museum curators, reenactors, collectors, illustrators and makers of reproduction equipment MUST HAVE THIS BOOK on their shelves.
My only criticism ? Color photos and exact measurements would have been nice. ...

5 out of 5 stars The best book written on Revolutionary War artifacts........1999-12-26

George C. Neumann and Frank J. Kravic have really done it this time. Hands down this is the best book written on artifacts of the American Revolution. From A to Z you can look up nearly anything that was used in the War For Independence. Great for amateurs and pros alike it is an indispensable reference tool especially with museums and private collections. Very popular with online auctions as this book is referred to often. Great photographs that are clear with a brief description of every item. Some of these artifacts are now on display at Valley Forge. For collectors and historians alike this work is unparalleled and for over 20 years has been the "bible" for collecting artifacts of the American Revolution. No other work has come close. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for re-enactors!.......1998-12-01

This book is an alphabetically organized list of hundreds of artifacts from the Revolutionary War, with photos of everything listed. Each item is described in detail, from powder horns to clothing to medical instruments. If you are a re-enactor of this period and you don't have this book, get it!

        1 out of 5 stars Written with a strong anti-American bias.......2006-02-18

If you like your history served up anti-American style, this book is for you. But if not, keep looking. Like so many modern authors of American History books, Boatner is on a mission to counter the overly pro-American history books used in schools for many years. So he wrote this with an at least as bad anti-American bias. Sorry, two wrongs don't make a right. Does ANYONE write balanced history books? I'll leave you with a very interesting FACT (though untold in any review or description of this book): He lived in Paris when he wrote this book and did *all his research* there. That's Paris, FRANCE. Should tell you all you need to know.

        5 out of 5 stars A definite must have!!!!.......2005-08-24

Anyone who is mildly intersted or intensely obsessed with the American Revolution needs to have this reference on their bookshelf!!

        5 out of 5 stars Essential...............2005-07-11

Mark Boatner's "Encyclopedia of the American Revolution" is an indespensable guide for understanding those who participated, battles that were fought and leaders whom, even though they may have played a smaller role, guided the republic, fought the republic and observed the republic from its inception.
All the facts are here to cross reference the Revolution with any books you may choose to read or facts you may want to dig deeper toward understanding.
Perhaps the most significant piece of a large puzzle in understanding the Revolution from all aspects.

        5 out of 5 stars Great Book..........2005-03-08

This was the first book I picked up on the American Revolution... Its a very useful reference covers the battles, major players, causes of the war, as well as other minor things... I highly recommend this book...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference for the Revolutionary War Student!.......2004-06-09

In my humble opinion, Boatner has written the best reference book for anyone wanting to learn more of the many Revoltionary War sites in the colonies and territories beyond.

Since I live close to many of the sites in North and South Carolina, the book has been a valuable source of information for learning more about these sites.

Whether you live in the South, North, or Midwest, Boatner's book will be a valuable guide for you in learning more about the sites close to your home. The book is also an interesting read for anyone who may not live close to any of the sites and will encourage you to perhaps visit some of these sites someday.

        Read and enjoy!

        Book Description

"Remember the Alamo!" is a phrase that is woven into the American consciousness, but what do most people really remember about the Alamo? Much of the true story has been shrouded in myth for a hundred and fifty years. This comprehensive encyclopedia provides thorough coverage for people, places, events, and issues spanning the pre-Revolution period and settlement of Texas by Americans to the forming of the Republic in 1836. Whenever appropriate, a mini-chronology supplements the entry, placing the discussion in context. A day-by-day account details the thirteen day famous siege. Entries cover major players such as Santa Anna, Jim Bowie and David Crockett as well as provide biographies (from obscure sources, in some cases) of every Alamo defender killed in the battle. American and Mexican resources have been used to assure a well-rounded picture of often misunderstood events. Maps and an extensive bibliography complement the text.

              Book Description

How did the U.S. evolve toward nationhood? Which factors prompted its turn away from Colonial status to independence? How was the Revolutionary War fought and won against such overwhelming odds? What were the conceptual underpinnings of the new society in its wake? These questions fuel class discussions and research assignments for students in junior high/middle school, high school and college every day, as well as the Supreme Court decisions that make our headlines. For the secondary and college student -- as well as the general reader -- this set is the definitive work answering these and other questions.

Coverage begins just prior to the American Revolution, including the Revolution, the framing of the American Constitution, the organization of a new national government, the development of the party system, the Louisiana Purchase, the second war with Britain, the acquisition of Florida and the Monroe Doctrine. Chronologically, this period is roughly from 1754 (beginning of the Seven Years' War) to the inauguration of President Andrew Jackson (1829). Woven among this set of political markers and milestones are entries outlining the cultural development of the new nation, including entries on art, music, literature, dress and daily life.

              Included in this set are:
