Customer Reviews:
Almost completely awesome!.......2007-05-22
I was a bit dissappointed with the ending, first because it's the end of the PS series, and the other because it sort of leaves you hanging. What the heck happened with Jake and Sam?!?!?!?!?!?!? I'm so clueless. Jake grabbed her hand and led her away, and then... ? And what's with Darby? Lying down beside a half-wild Mustang doesn't exactly make her a horse whisper. Sam and the Phantom have a much more complicated relationship going on. OK, OK I'll admit it was a brave thing lying in the snow with her, and Darby reminds me of myself, (pale, skinny, horse freak, breathing difficulties, etc.). This book was awesome, I'm just wondering what happens with Sam and Jake.
Amazing Ending to An Amazing Series.......2007-03-24
Everything was wrapped up in this final installment of the Phantom Stallion series. Linc Slocum was arrested, the Kenworthy's took over the Gold Dust Ranch with Ryan Slocum and renamed it Harmony Ranch, Brynna had a baby boy named Cody (although the original due date was January 17, but it's not surprising to have had the baby come earlier) and the Phantom can't be captured if he stays near or in the horse valley that he normally keeps his herd in because that land now belongs to the Forsters'!!!!! Whoooooo!!!
I'd also like to tell everyone about an awesome PS Fansite that I am very active on. It's called Wild Horse Valley, and if you go to the Forum, you can find tons of stuff. I go by HorseGirl there! There are also contests around the site, summaries, ect. On the Forum, you can chat about the books, horses, or whatever floats your boat! Go to: [...] Terri Farley's #1 Fansite!
(Please for all of you that have Phantom Stallion fansites, don't take that into offense. It's just a little taste of competition!)
- Wild Horse Valley also has the first Phantom Stallion Newspaper, over the Internet of course! It's called the Phantom Stallion Reader. I am staff, and write the column, Running Free on Wild Horse Island (name credits from me!) and it is all about Terri Farley's brand new horse series, Wild Horse Island! Check out my article, click on one of the two links on the WHV blog, and mine will be the first one to the left. You can find out ALL about Wild Horse Island! Hope everyone joins!
- Poor you, K. Rogers. Darby is the main character of the next horse series! I hope you read the books anyway!
LOVED IT!!!!!!!!.......2006-12-23
I was sort of sad when I got this book, since I knew it was the last one but it is great! The ending is wonderful and it's filled with adventure and action right to the end. I don't want to give it anyway for anyone but it's great. Brynna has her baby and the Phantom is at risk of being captured through most of the book. The only part that kind of annoyed me was Darby, I didn't care for her.
But all in all this was awesome!
Thanks, Terri .......2006-12-21
dreams aren't just things that happen in the dark and in your mind. they can happen for real--- and if you go to Terri's website you'll see what i mean.
terri helped me understand that real life, honest to goodness, not so special people can do good things too. you don't have to be a rock star or something, you just have to dream hard enough, love more than is practical, and believe in the unbelievable.
the phantom does exist. she proved it!!! i believe in him. God worked a miracle, and he can do many more.
my dream is to own an honest to goodness black arabian stallion named Shetan, aka the Black, and i don't really care if he takes me to the top or not.
he'll be there--- that's all that will matter.
and terri, if you read this, i hope it makes you smile
thanks so much--- and do us a favor--- don't stop writing about mustangs and crazy dreams.
tia in Idaho owner of two horses,
YAY!!.......2006-12-19
this is the best book ever!! it's sad that this is the last book in the series, although this is a great ending. my favorite part is at the end, when everything works just comes together. the author didn't leave anything hanging for you to wonder about. everyone should but this book, including the rest of the series!

Book Description
In 1886 the last of the Apache Indians, led by Geronimo, were defeated in New Mexico and sent to reservations. This is the compelling story of what happens when one of the boys escapes and is rescued by an African American family.
Customer Reviews:
Vigorous Storytelling.......2005-11-28
This tale is about African Americans and Native Americans during post Civil War times. Many topics surface, among them voting rights, the Ku Klux Klan, and the tight grip the powerful white community holds over all. Mostly this book is about right and wrong, about ethics and morality in the face of danger.
In the foreword, McKissack writes that the story is inspired by her own ancestors, an African American girl and the Native American boy she befriends and later marries. The fictional counterparts are eleven-year-old Sarah and fourteen-year-old Sky, who meet when Sarah discovers Sky hiding in the family barn. He stays with Sarah's family, becoming like a member by the end of the book.
This action-packed book was enjoyable because of the fast pace, the setting in rural Missouri, and the believability of the characters. The villains - the Sheriff and other powerful townspeople - were authentically ominous, with their threats of lynching and secretive KKK ties. I would recommend this to any student looking for historical fiction.
Run Away Home Review.......2002-04-25
I have just finished reading a suspenseful and invigorating book called Run Away Home. As a student in college I thought that this book showed a good sense of character to the time it took place. I just finished working on a unit on Slavery for my Social Studies class. This book would play a good role as a wrap up to the ending of the Slavery Unit. This book takes place in Alabama during the 1800's when slavery is just becoming abolished. It is about a slave family that just became freed. They owe their own farm and do their own chores to get by. One day the father and his little girl go for a walk down by the railroad tracks with their dog, like they always do. They came across a train that was sitting there ready to unload its cargo. They spoke with a man named George Wratten who was a interpreter and a scout for the United States Army. Sarah's father asked what was going on and he told them that they captured Apache Indians and they are taking them to Mount Vernon. While Sarah and her father were speaking to the gentleman she noticed a Apache boy escape from the train car and out the window. She didn't say anything because she didn't want to be a tattle tail. So when she arrived at home the thought of the Apache boy all alone out there worried her. One night when it was storming pretty bad out, she heard a noise. Sarah got dressed and went out to the barn to see what it was, but she knew who it was. She couldn't see if it was actually the Apache boy but in her heart she knew it. Later on the boy was discovered and she and her family took him in.
I really enjoyed this book because it makes you feel like you are right there watching all of the events take place. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a love for history or for someone who just wants to read a interesting book.
Review.......2002-04-24
I personally enjoyed reading this book. As a student in college I thought that this book showed a good sense of character to the time that it took place. I just finished a unit on Slavery, so this book played a good part in how I interpretted slavery. Sarah is a care free spirit who loves life and she also loves being free. She meets this Native American boy named Sky, who is a runaway from his tribe that was captured. She ends up finding him one day at her house and she takes him in.
I feel that this is a great book to share in a classroom setting and it is something that everyone should read at least once. After having read this book I thought about how lucky we are today in our lives, by having people around you that know and love you.

Customer Reviews:
A great and motivating book for the retiring and adventurous!.......2005-11-04
This is a fun and motivational book- not so much as 'how to sell you house,' but rather 'where to go. what to do.' Tips and trick for living up the retired life on the road. If you're even THINKING about it... this is a must read!
An informative adventure.......2005-11-01
I liked this book! It is not a "how to" fulltime as there are many such books on the market, but it is more of a "where to" as in where to go, places to see, and people to meet type book. I like the title, I like the cover and I like the book. A fun read!
More than RVing.......2005-11-01
This is a great story for anyone who is unsure about making changes in their lives. "I'm too old, what will people think" and all those kinds of messages. This couple faced the unknown and shared their adventures and misadventures in this book. It's highly personal and yet provides great information and insight into living on the road.
How to Run Away from Home After 50.......2005-02-02
I gave it one star, if I could I would have given it zero! I have read around 10 books on fulltiming. This is far and away the worst one I have read. The author who is 67 years old, not even close to 50, describes her and her husbands little adventure traveling around the USA and Canada. If you want to know where the best chiropractors are or how meditation gets her through life then by all means buy this book. There is very little on how to retire in your 50's and go full timing. They started out in a 25ft trailer(way to small) and after about a month bought a brand new 42ft motorhome. One thing you will learn is the name of every friend she has, because they visted every single one of them and they were mentioned in her book. This is one book that once you put it down you won't be able to pick it back up. Look for books by the Steeles and Hoffmeister that are light years ahead of this book about the fulltiming lifestyle.

Wonderful story!.......2002-08-21
This is a wonderful story, and the beginning of a wonderful series. Megan is a young woman whose family background has left her emotionally scarred and fiercely independent. When a friend offers her the use of his summer cabin in the Utah mountains, Megan unexpectedly encounters there the only man in her life who has shown her true affection--and who loves her still--but who unknowingly betrayed her trust ten years ago.
Doug is extrordinary! He shows great patience and love as he helps Megan overcome her fears. He longs to be a family with Megan and their nine-year-old son, Jason, but first must help Megan let go of the ghosts of her past so she can learn to love and be loved.
I like the way Jennie Hansen set up the next story in this wonderful series by referring at the end to A.J.'s move to Alaska to work on a documentary film--and then at Megan's birthday party Doug's telling Megan that A.J. was not able to attend because he had promised to drive a friend's truck from Alaska to Utah for him, and it would take a couple of weeks. Throughout the book, I felt a bit sorry for A.J., since it was obvious he wanted Megan. Thank you, Jennie, for telling us A.J.'s story in this wonderful series. (Read them in order: Run Away Home, Journey Home, Coming Home)
A keeper!.......2000-06-12
Run Away Home will remain one of my all-time favorite books. The plot and characters are fanastic yet believable, and the reader becomes feels they are a part of the story as much as any of the characters. I read this in one sitting, forgetting about everything else. It is such an intriguing story, it can be read and re-read and not "get old." It deserves and easy 5 stars.

Book Description
Presents a historical overview of ground attacks on air bases from the first known attacks in 1940 to the most recent in 1992, detailing three case studies: Britain's Royal Air Force (RAF) on Crete, the German Luftwaffe in North Africa and the USAF in Vietnam.
Customer Reviews:
Very Data Driven.......2007-07-21
Mr. Vick gathers the data that is available to him and puts it in one place. Perhaps an eye opener for anyone that has never been detailed to air base defense but otherwise simply a review of numbers. No real insight is offered in the author's review of the statistics.
The book does, however, create a desire to read the source material a little more closely. If you're looking strictly for numbers, this RAND book is perfect. For a thorough analysis... look elsewhere.
A must for all USAF Security Types .......2005-02-04
This book is a must for all who study Air Force security. When concerning Air Base Grouond Defense, you cannot get any clearer a picture than the work of Alan Vick and the Rand Corporation. The author includes the raw data from years of Air Base Defense including the most important period of USAF Security Police, the Vietnam War.
This book is a must for all AF history buffs.
Maximum payback with little cost.......2000-08-30
This book, I believe, is based on the author research for RAND. It is an excellent book about air bases defense against attacks from ground forces. Based on detailed case studies, the author pointed out the vulnerability of modern air bases to ground attacks. Although the author also described the effective measures used by USAF to defend air bases in Vietnam, it is very clear that a clever enemy can use a relative small unit to harrass and even cause quite a damage to the air bases.
No matter how powerful an air force is in the air, it is still very vulnerable on the ground. And this is really a problem that none of the modern air forces can igonore.

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Review of Judicial History.......2006-05-22
Because the political philosophy of our fathers is rooted in a combination of Lockean and Hobbesian philosophy, the initial Federal government's role was basically defense, foreign policy, and refereeing interstate commerce. It was not to provide for needs such as retirement, health, food assistance, farm support, or recreation. Yet, today the federal government is involved in all these activities, and over time, individual property rights have been highly compromised, and personal responsibility is no longer an legally binding.
This book gives us a judicial history of the key court cases that lead to this outcome. It then critiques the logical flaws of the progressive thinking. It does not explain how the key judges who decided these key court cases got to the bench. Therefore, one should not and cannot rely solely on this book to give one a complete understanding how political power shifted in this country so that the vision of our founders could be destroyed. It is perhaps good that this book is not comprehensive because it would be much longer and we can use our time more efficiently by first examining the court decisions and then later one try to figure out how the court changed its guiding philosophy.
I recommend this book to those who are trying to restore liberal principals to American Federalism. (Please note that liberal here begins with a small l.
