Book Description

Join internationally known Psychic Medium Penny Clark Babson through this journey of loss, love, and understanding. Eugene Clark died of lung cancer in August 2000. Not only did he leave behind four grown children, a wife, and several grandchildren, but he left his daughter with a better understanding about life and the feeling of a bond that no time, space or even realm could diminish. Flashbacks of PennyÂ's youth in the southeastern Vermont town of West Pawlet add to the love expressed with this then low-income family and its lifelong struggles. Included are afterlife poems written by Mrs. Babson and unknown authors, as well as stories of afterlife connections she has received from her father and places to write your own afterlife connections.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2006-02-08

This book shone through the confusion that was so prevelant in my life. Without it I don't know how I would have been able to continue on this journey. Thank you Penny for sharing with us a piece of yourself and allowing us to glimpse into your soul.
I trust that anyone who has taken the time to ready this book will no doubt agree or have greater praises than I possibly could in mere letters. For those of you who can't appreciate true literature and poetry of soul, well, I guess there is no hope for is there?

5 out of 5 stars A "True" inspiration from one author to another........2006-02-07

Innovative, impressive and evocative! Recommended as an inspirational resource for those who have also survived cancer. It's said that we each have at least one novel within us, and I believe that to be true. The underlying message conveyed is an important factor when writing a novel, novella or short story. (If the author of the low rating is as fluent with his critique as he is with his spelling, punctuation and grammar, and his incapacity to read beyond the title, then perhaps he should re-read the book from a more subjective viewpoint instead of a review biased perhaps from covetous personal opinion. Alternatively, perhaps he has submitted the review for his own amusement or "self grandizement" [sic] or to satisfy his ennui.

5 out of 5 stars What A Special Novel.......2006-02-07

This book, will definately help those that are learning how to cope with the loss of someone close to them, and how to outreach themselves towards others that are going through the same. In the work that i do( offline and online) i will forsure let other's know of this book) as i "teach" new methods of inner peace and release, and this book does it. Especially with all the fear and insecurities of the world is in, jealousy runs deep and its all through the anger of oneself. It's time to rest and learn about the "peace" that is still out there and not focus on the anger that so many hold onto and not accept.
Penny, keep up the good work, your ability to share with others will definately help each person seeking for healing and peace. Blessings to you and yours!

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring.......2006-02-07

This book inspired me after losing my grandfather from cancer as a teen. What I see in this book is that it is a great recommendation for the loss of some one from any illness aids ect. I recommend this book highly!

5 out of 5 stars A big help to all!.......2006-02-06

I found this book to be a big help in my own loved ones battle with cancer. I was given this book by the cancer center my sister was visiting for treatment. Apparently the author donated many copies world wide to cancer centers. I found the truth that the author talks about in herself and in the death of her father to be up lifting.
The bad rating given below must be from a revival who is upset by Mrs Babson's notoriety as a wonder Author and professional psychic medium. Some people, especially those who have not read the book should really get a life! This book is wonderful!! A god Send and inspiration of love and loss that we all can benefit and grow from!

Book Description

In Jane's Naval History of World War II, he covers all the different types of warship that fought from the Atlantic and Arctic to the Pacific Ocean. From aircraft carriers to submarines, assault ships to destroyers and cruisers, his paintings bring to life the incredible variety of warships that took part in the greatest naval conflict in history. Naval historian Bernard Ireland offers new insights to the conflict, investigating how German U-boats ultimately lost the battle of the Atlantic while US submarines annihiliated Japan's merchant navy. His own career in naval engineering enables him to reveal all sorts of hidden details that make Jane's Naval History of World War II a radical new contribution to 20th century history.

3 out of 5 stars A good overview of a most important aspect of World War II.......2000-02-27

This is a good introduction to naval combat as it was executed in World War II. The photography and diagrams provide interesting views of ships and tactics to those just learning about combat at sea as well as those who have been looking with interest at naval warfare for years. Although this is not an in-depth analysis or presentation of naval history, it does in my opinion delve into areas that are not in the mainstream of typical historical overviews, for which I am personally grateful.

For a coffee table type book used for casual browsing and conversation, it is a fine addition to anyone's library. It does, however, lack the content needed to give each aspect of combat at sea a more complete picture. For example, the evolution of emphasis from capital ships to naval aviation throughout the navies of the world is incomplete if not absent altogether. Indeed, although a good deal of effort was taken in each of the six areas covered by the author, and although a great deal of excellent information was conveyed through the photography and accompanying narratives, I felt as though I needed more to get the quality view I desired when I finished with the book. And that desire for the quality view is what prompted purchase of this book in the first place. If the author had decided to double the amount of time spent on each chapter providing a more in depth presentation, I would still have made the purchase.

I will also admit to observing some weakness in the editorial review process in producing the book. I am however, prepared to accept the fact that differences exist between the Kings English and that used on this side of the Atlantic. The fact there was no section at the end providing conclusions to the findings presented in the book itself caused a rather abrupt ending. I was a bit disappointed to discover that at the end of the last chapter I turned the page only to find myself in the Index rather than in an Afterword that would have assisted me in achieving closure with the author in what otherwise could have been a great book.

Books of this calibre are an excellent means by which our history can be presented to the generations that followed the participants, and that are benefiting from the call to arms answered by a generation that came out the era of "The War to End All Wars" and was forged by the years of the Great Depression. Jane's is to be commended for the production of this book describing naval combat in World War II.

3 out of 5 stars A good book with interesting photos and drawings........1999-03-02

This is a good book about WWII at sea. It misses being a great book. I found so many typing mistakes, errors of fact, and mislabled photos that I wondered if anyone did any proof reading before it was printed. I expected more for the price. While good, it is no where near the quality of Jane's Fighting Ships of WWII.

Here is a full-color coffee-table tribute to these special birds and those who hunt them--published in cooperation with Pheasants Forever.

This glorious full-color tribute to the pheasant and its place in the sporting life of millions of upland bird hunters is already a classic. Its stunning photographs, from many of the finest outdoor photographers in the country, are supported with quotations from such eminent writers on pheasants as Dan Holland, John Madson, Dale Spartas, Steve Grooms, and many others.

Russ Sewell and Dave Nomsen reflect on the pheasant's natural history and ties to agriculture and rural life, while a special essay by Steve Grooms takes a witty and eloquent look at the ringneck's supreme talent for outsmarting dog and hunter alike.

The spectacular photographs explode with the color and excitement of hunting ringnecks, taking you from the cornbelt to the Great Plains and beyond. Any pheasant hunter who has walked an autumn field and felt his pulse race a bit faster will love Ringneck.

Especially in the off season! If I can't hunt the birds, then I need to be reading about them. This book is beautifully illustrated and well written. It discusses and describes the true passion for hunting pheasnts. Its an easy read and the pictures are awesome. All in all and excellent read and even better as a gift. Thanks Toz and Mojo!!!

5 out of 5 stars A wonderfull book on pheasants and pheasant habitat.......2000-11-04

Every pheasant population has limits to its growth placed by its niche in a larger ecology. Only one large brained vertebrate seems unconstrained by the general rule. For those of us who want to know more about limits to the growth of pheasant populations, and about the life of pheasants at all seasons, Dr. Peter Robertson's "Pheasants" is a must buy. This is a brilliant book and is highly recommened

Bird and wildlife lovers who are not specifically interested in pheasants should read this book, not only because, as Robertson explains, good pheasant habitat is good wildlife habitat for the whole range of small creatures of the woods and fields. This book can lead to a deeper understanding of wildlife habitat in general, and of how a habitat supports and limits the populations of wildlife species.

This book is an absolute must for all pheasant habitat managers and their superiors in the state agencies. An understanding of the book's central themes could increase the reader's ability to identify the elements of good habitat, even when the vegetation is different from that described by Robertson. A careful student of the book and of local habitat might gain the skill of identifying particular habitat deficiencies which limit a local pheasant population.

Following the pheasant through a year in its life cycle, Robertson discusses critical habitat requirements in elegant and convincing detail. The life and needs of the pheasant in Winter are revealed. Robertson tells us what spring territories are all about, what kind of habitat is required for a good territory, and where and how far the hens go to nest. And Robertson explains the habitat needs of chicks, that they must have an adequate diet of insects in the first weeks of their lives, and how that is a critical vulnerability.

This book is absolutely up to date, breaking new ground in our understanding of pheasants. It is based on the latest research, much of it performed by Dr. Robertson and his colleagues. Dr. Peter Robertson, BSc, PhD, perhaps the world's foremost authority on pheasants, has performed much of his research as the Senior Scientist to The Game Conservancy's Pheasants and Woodlands Research Project, in Britain.

Clayton Davis provides us fresh insight into life on the prairie where hardworking people planted crops and raised families.

3 out of 5 stars South Dakota - From the ground up........2002-02-01

This is a dandy capsule history of South Dakota development. Using basic family stories, author Davis sketches the development of one small segment of South Dakota from immigrant soddy to motorcar racing to modern class reunions. Along the way he provides a snapshot of comic hardships and truimphs of hardworking Swedes who settled this treeless country of hard winters and hot summers. From blind mules to racecars to chicken stealing skunks, family stories provide insight to daily life on the prairie and progress to the present. Much of the book centers around Redfield, a small rural town and home of the author's wife, and one section provides details of Swedish meatball delights and Lutefisk. Lutefisk being a dish only appreciated by dyed in the wool Swedes.

Author Davis concludes the book with a cook's tour of South Dakota, providing useful information and tips for touring the countryside.

A delightful book highly recommended for history buffs.

            2 out of 5 stars Pleasing Tales.......2002-01-07

"Where Peasants Sing: Life in South Dakota 1900-2000" is a charming, unpretentious little book of "happy stories about life in South Dakota." Most yarns are from the days when people "plowed fields and planted seeds on the untamed prarie."

Tales cover an impressive variety of topics. They range from the famed "Corn Palace" in Mitchell---a building so large that it houses sports events, yet is covered each year with "600,000 ears of corn of all kinds"---to a "complicated recipe for Swedish meathballs."

Author Clayton Davis writes in a casual style, tells readers pleasing tales as they apparently come to his mind. For example, in writing about the giant grain elevator in his wife's hometown, Redfield, he also informs readers a bit about concrete construction of some 2000 years ago. Then he briefs us about "the first concrete reinforced bridge built in America." And he also mentions inventor Thomas Edison making "houses with poured concrete (that sold) for less than $1,200 and are still standing."

This book has many photos, mostly family snapshots. There are pictures of the author's wedding to Irene Brink in 1952; her grandmothers---"One was from Sweden and the other from Czechoslovakia;" a friend's sleek racing car; uncle Charley's old cow; and more.

Closing the book is a laid-back description of the author's "trip (to) see South Dakota the way an early mapmaker saw it." Davis reports briefly on such places as a hunting lodge where you can stay in "private rooms (or) an eighteen-bed dorm;" Britton, the town named for a general manager of an area railroad; Fort Sisseton, which offers "A five hour guided walking tour;" and other such attractions.

If you are interested in mostly early-Americana, based largely on "first-hand accounts told by immigrants in northeasten South Dakota and archival materials," written in informal prose and structure, this may be just the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars Pheasants of the World.......2005-09-21

An excellent book. Tends to focus more on the individual pheasant breeds rather than thier care and raising of them. However, probably one of the most in-depth books on the many beautiful species of pheasants worldwide.
