Book Description
NEWLY REVISED AND UPDATED
The Out-of-Sync Child broke new ground by identifying Sensory Processing Disorder, a common but frequently misdiagnosed problem in which the central nervous system misinterprets messages from the senses. This newly revised edition features additional information from recent research on vision and hearing deficits, motor skill problems, nutrition and picky eaters, ADHA, autism, and other related disorders.

A Good Guide.......2007-09-13
I found this book to be very easy to understand and it gave me some real insights into certain behavior problems that I have observed. It certainly had me seeing this child in a new and more positive light. I glad that it was recommended to me.
Great infomation but not an easy read........2007-09-10
This book was full of great ideas and info but it my car manual reads smoother.
Must Have book for those with Sensory Impaired Children.......2007-08-10
My son's OT therapist recommended both this book and the handbook. This book is a must read for parents who have sensory impaired children. I also think this book should be required reading for educators, especially resource teachers.
Very helpful.......2007-08-06
I did not understand what was going on with my little one until I read this book. I realized other issues that I had not noticed with my little one until I read this. I was able to help my child more and understand that he needed more services after I read this book.

Customer Reviews:
helpful, but..........2007-04-25
I highly recommend the book "The Highly Sensitive Child" by Elaine Aron to get a different perspective (more positive) on the out of sync child.
The Out of Sync Child has fun.......2006-11-03
This is an excellent book for teachers and parents! It provides useful and very important information to work and deal with kids with sensory integration disorder
Very useful book.......2006-08-08
As a teacher I found that this book had many fun and functional activities. I do wish this book had more activities for older (teenage) students with moderate to severe disabilities; but, a great book overall.
Best Book for Sensory Integration out there!!.......2006-03-10
I *LOVED* this book. It was such a quick read that I got through it in two days, *with* two kids underfoot, but there certainly was no lack in valuable content to read. This has transformed the way that I understand and work with my daughter, and she has had a diagnosis for sensory integration disorder for years! I reccommend this to *any* parent, even those without sensory kids....
Best resource for activities I've found!.......2006-03-03
I found this book very helpful for use in my field as a social worker who works with children and adolescents, not just with sensory issues, but across a wide spectrum of issues. This book offers MANY activities targeting children of all ages and with diverse interests, and I have also found it helpful to recommend to parents as options for activities to entertain their kids with!

Book Description
Semper Fi collects into one volume the best, most compelling stories and eyewitness accounts from the vast literature about the elite few who call themselves United States Marines. The history of the Marine Corps is inextricably intertwined with that of the country it defends—from its formation during the American Revolution through the Civil War, World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf War, right up to its recent role in Afghanistan. Marines not only played a deciding role in many of the moments which have determined our history, but set a standard for honor, self-sacrifice, and courage which has defined the best of military heroism in this country for generations. Including the most compelling excerpts from classics old and new by authors such as Thomas Ricks (Making the Corps), James Brady (The Coldest War), Studs Terkel (The Good War), Lewis B. Puller, Jr. (Fortunate Son), James W. Johnson (The Long Road of War), Joseph Alexander (Edson’s Raiders), John C. Stevens III (Court-Martial At Parris Island), Anthony Swofford (Jarhead), and Frank and John Schaeffer (Keeping Faith), this anthology will bring readers the pain, pride, and glory of being a member of America’s most renowned fighting group.
Customer Reviews:
Semper Fi pumped my Adrenaline.......2007-07-26
This book is excellant. This is actually my second copy. I was gifted the book by my father-in-law who was a retired Marine. But Marine or not, the book is riveting and exciting. I bought a second copy for my brother. It will definitely keep you captivated.
Excellent excerpts from great books on the Corps.......2004-10-14
I am a third generation Marine and know many of these stories simply by memory as they talk to the heart of what the corps cult-like traditions are. These are pure stories of Honor, Courage, and Commitment -- the foundational values of the Marine Corps, and they couldn't be painted more vividly. Although I own the full books of many of these titles, this book is great to give to friends who maybe just don't understand us seemingly "crazed fanatic" Marines. Those who read it will understand the Corps and its real purpose more clearly than ever by stories like these.
You don't have to be, or know, a Marine to enjoy this book........2003-09-27
Once again Mr. Willis has applied his high editorial standards and avoided the trap of creating a book full of tired old war stories. Instead, Semper Fi delves into what it feels like and means to be a Marine - and in truth much of it could apply to any service. If you've ever been to Boot Camp or Basic Training you'll relive it in a couple of these selections. There are "war stories" from WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and Desert Storm but they are not superficial there-I-was hero tales. They are thoughtful, (mostly first-person), retrospectives about the men who served, who did what had to be done, and perhaps didn't return. You will read these accounts and maybe repeat the words of Frederic March at the close of the movie The Bridges of Toko-Ri: "Where do we get such men?". The selections in this book are so artfully removed from the originals that you won't need the chapters before or after to really taste the fear of being on a combat patrol, sense the insecurity of just arrivng in country, or feel the pride tinged with just a little guilt after saving your platoon by calling in devastating artillery fire. There is a wrenching excerpt from the book by Lewis Puller who struggles with feelings that he has let down his hero father by getting his legs and hands blown off before ever coming to grips with the enemy. As I write this in Sept. '03, perhaps now this book is especially relevant with so many men and women serving in combat conditions overseas. If this collection shows one thing, it is that a Marine's, or soldier's, reactions to danger and war are constant throughout history, and so reading these stories from the not so distant past may truly help us understand the present.

Book Description
Birds of Southern Africa is the best and most authoritative guide to the birds of one of the world's most fertile birding regions. Two hundred color plates comprising over 4,000 expert illustrations help birders to distinguish all of southern Africa's approximately 950 bird species. The illustrations have labels highlighting diagnostic features, and many birds are depicted in flight as well as still. Special attention is given to plumage variation by age, sex, and season.
The informative text, written by eminent ornithologists, is fully integrated with the color plates to facilitate use in the field. Detailed species accounts emphasize the essential characteristics of each bird, including information on behavior, calls, and habitat preferences.
All species names and divisions are in line with the latest recommendations of the International Ornithological Committee, while well-known and local common names are also included. Both beginners and advanced birders will appreciate the regional checklist, quick reference guides, and excellent family summaries. Up-to-date distribution maps feature dual shading to indicate areas of low and high abundance, while cross-referencing is made easy with color coding and a simple numbering system.
Absolutely up-to-date and both beautifully and comprehensively illustrated, this field guide is a terrific reference as well as a superb visual record of the rich variety of a region that is home to one-tenth of all bird species.
Customer Reviews:
Exactly what I wanted.......2007-06-08
This book is superbly illustrated, with clear descriptions of each type of bird and makes identification fairly straight forward.
While I have not used it in the bush yet, I expect it will be invaluable in identifying each bird I may encounter.
Excellent Comprehensive Field Guide.......2007-03-30
I'm so glad I bought this guide before visiting South Africa recently. I took it with me everywhere and it shows! It is easy to find the bird group you are looking for from the table of contents as well as quick references (both names and diagrams) that direct you to the appropriate page. The drawings are very well done. I especially like how distinguishing features and subtle differences between similar species are pointed out both in the written descriptions and diagrams, making for easier identification. Also, in species where juveniles or breeding birds differ considerably in plumage, additional diagrams are added to depict this.
With this many species, space is limited, and I have read complaints that there is not enough information about the species, so I suppose that is something to consider if you are looking for in-depth descriptions, but I don't think that was the intention of the authors for this guide. As a field guide it is excellent and reasonably sized to carry around with you in a backpack (not a pocket guide!). If I want to know more about a particular species, I look it up on the internet later. I looked at some other books at a local bookstore in South Africa and I was glad I had bought this one. Definitely recommended.
Birds of Southern Africa.......2007-03-09
Book was purchased for our forthcoming trip to Botswana. It seems to give excellent coverage of the birds
we're likely to encounter there and with little repetition of birds we've seen before in Kenya and Tanzania.
The maps are well done and illustrations are excellent.
Birds of South Africa.......2007-02-24
Sinclair's book is a big improvement on the earlier fieldguides for the area that I had (Newman and Prozesky). The art is better and the info is compactly displayed. I can't claim to be knowledgeable about this avifauna, nor have I used the book in the field. However, the book is just the sort of new work that I was looking for in preparation for a visit to South Africa.
Birds of Southern Africa.......2006-08-30
I own all the field guides for this area and the Sinclair book is the best. The illustrations are excellent and the text and range maps are opposite the illustrations making it easy to use in the field. I do question the inclusion of some species where there are only two or three records for the area covered as this makes someone visiting the area go through a lot of alternatives to make an identification. Also better explanation of the summer ranges of certain species would help.

Photos makes it easier to identify birds!.......2007-10-07
I love the birds in Southern Africa, but I am also very bad at identifying them, so this book makes birding fun for me. I can quickly find the bird I just saw by flipping through the book. The downside is there is not always pictures of the bird at different angles or of the immatures. However, if you're a novice like me, it shouldn't matter much at all. Get Ian Sinclair's illustration version if you're more serious about birding.

Excellent large book for library use........1999-08-16
The photographs in this book are excellent. All the birds are in good light with plumage variations evident. Where needed, colored drawings supplement the photos. A map of the distribution is on the facing page, and the text describes habitat, behavior, and plumage characteristics of the species. Size is given in centimeters.
