Excellent resource of info on the "hessian" troops!.......2003-02-23
This diary makes clear the miscoceptions and wrong ideas
about the hessian troops, the most significant that they were not
mercenaries, and they did not want to be in british service in the first place. The author gives excellent discriptions of events, and writes in such a way that the reader gets a very good picture of his personal life and character. He and his unit missed most important combat action, but the few they participated in, like the siege of yorktown, are described in immense detail. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in the daily life, opinions, and observations of a revolutionary war soldier.
A Hessian Diary of the American Revolution - Doehla........2002-12-03
This is a translation of a Diary of a Bayreuth soldier of the American Revolution written originally by Johann Conrad Doehla,
and translated into English by Bruce E, Burgoyne. This gives an
insight of the lifes of those German auxiliary soldiers who were hired by the British King George III to fight the American rebels. This man went through battles until the end at Yorktown,
became a prisoner, and noted down every days happenings. You'll
find the names of many deserting comrades who later served with
the Americans, and settled after the war in the new United States. This Diary in my opinion follows closely in quality the Diary written by the famous Baroness Friederike von Riedesel. In any event, anybody interested in the American Revolution history
will find this book most interesting.
A German Soldier's View of the American Revolution.......2001-02-02
This book is an interesting diary by a private in the German Bayreuth regiment, who served in America during 1777-1781. Dohla was captured at Yorktown, imprisoned in Maryland and not repatriated until 1783. Particularly poignant are examples of how German officers maintained brutal discipline and this brutality undermined morale. The diary is filled with desertion after desertion. Relations between British and German troops appeared decent. There is only limited discussion of combat operations in this account because Dohla's unit usually seemed to miss most actions for one reason or another, but there is plenty of skirmishing. Dohla's comments on America are interesting from the point of view of the common soldier. Unfortunately, there are no maps.
Real insight from the other side of the Revloution.......2000-12-15
Great book to see what a soldier from the 'enemy' was experiencing. From the dull days ("Stood watch"), to days of battles and the deaths of commrades, it really gives a good insight as to the thoughts and daily rituals of someone who was there. An added bonus for me, living in New York, was the descriptions of the East Coast, from Virginia to Rhode Island, given by someone who stood here 225 years ago and marveled at America's bounty. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to see what the "other side" saw.
Insightful View of the American War of Independence.......2000-06-27
When most people study the American Revolution they get only one side of the conflict. It is said that the victors of war write the history books and thus it sometimes is difficult to get a true picture of what really happened unless we weigh both sides in the conflict. Like Lt. Fredrick McKenzie's and Sgt. Roger Lamb's Diaries, this book gives the reader a view of the thoughts and experiences of the crown forces during the war. It is well written and Bruce Burgoyne does an excellent job crossreferencing other diaries as well. I really felt like I knew Dohla in the end and found it a very valuable research tool. I highly recommend this book to those interested in the history of both sides in the American Revolution and those interested in the contributions of the Hessian regiments.
Product Description
Johann Conrad Döhla was a private in the Fourth Company of the Bayreuth Regiment from Ansbach-Bayreuth. He had already served his prince for eight years before he was sent to America in 1777 in one of several German mercenary contingents hired by England to suppress the revolt in the American colonies, where he served five and one half years until 1783. This electronic reprint will provide students of history access to a first-person account of the American Revolution. Johann Conrad Döhla tells of his participation in the war, the routine of guard and fatigue duties, and comments on military leaders. He provides varied and interesting observations regarding everything that he participated in. Private Döhla records what he, and other private soldiers, thought was happening regarding the war and the reasons for the war. However, his accounts of events in which he was not personally involved are often filled with misinformation. The text includes introductory materials and editorial notes, plus maps and illustrations. A fullname and subject index adds to the value of this work. Bruce E. Burgoyne is a recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Revolution Roundtable of Philadelphia.

Book Description
Artist, stage designer, political cartoonist, and satirist, Gerald Scarfe has given us some of the most famous and controversial images of the 20th century. During a prolific career that spans more than four decades, he has worked with an eclectic mix of English and American icons: from Pink Floyd to Disney, Private Eye to Time, The Sunday Times to The New Yorker. This, the first collected volume of his work in more than 20 years, showcases the works that have established him as one of our foremost cultural commentators. From the whiplash satire of his political cartoons to his harrowing portraits of the Vietnam War, and from his spectacular set designs to his many contributions to films, this spectacular visual memoir offers an astute and irreverent view of the personalities and events that have shaped modern times.

A great book on a great artist........2003-05-23
Gerald Scarfe is an amazing caricaturist, and one of my favorite artists. This is an excellent, colorful book that chronicals the British cartoonist's rise to fame, from his days as a sickly bed-ridden child to the editorial cartoonist of England's biggest newspaper. There are full-color drawings and photos a-plenty, with lots of interesting images of his work for the British theatre and the animated segment of Pink Flyod's infamous "Wall" film. Its also full of interesting insights and ancedotes from the author. A great book on a great artist.

Not bad, but..........2007-10-08
Why can't they publish a book like this with a spiral binding? With a paperback binding it makes it impossible to have a guitar in your hands and the book open to a particular page. I went to OfficeMax and had the binding cut off and a spiral binding put in its place. There...much better now...
Bad Print.......2007-02-23
My copy's print was so bad, it was not readable in areas. I sent mine back. I can't say anything about the accuracy of the tab.
++++++.......2005-10-14
This book is great to learning a different techinique of guitar playing - namely Gilmour style - but isn't the best if you're looking to play the licks just like in the album. This is in part because their isn't only one guitar part, despite the fact that there is but one guitarist (there is more than one track of guitar). And, as in any tablature book I have studied, the authors put in every detail that was played in a single song. I imagine they sit down and listen over and over to a song and find every little thing played. I wish that they wouldn't do this, because I think it's better for players to just know the basic things that are played, and then just jam.
But, I deffinetly recomend this for any aspiring guitarists, and those who are Floyd fans, obviously.
we all know gilmour makes the band.......2005-10-13
rodger did nothing, david makes floyd FLOYD. Lets not get crazy with the rodger talk. i suggest practicing bends and whammy bar pulls before looking at this
Influential Band, Influential Book.......2003-04-11
This book is a must have for all Floyd fans. Has all the best tunes from the album.

Birds Of PA.......2007-10-06
Chur-REE! A couple of years ago, these plush, stuffed toy birds showed up in Dunham's, each one with a real bird song inside, recorded by the Audubon Society. My mom and I picked one out as a Christmas present for my nephew, joked how my grandmother Laura would have gotten a kick out of these. I received the red-wing blackbird for Christmas, much to the dismay of the cat but to my endless fascination. For me, it's not the robin who is the harbinger of spring in these parts. As someone who suffers from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder, and who doesn't experience that, to some extent, living around here?), I know winter's back is truly broken for another year when I see the red-wing blackbirds in the fields. And now, after freaking out the cat and annoying my boyfriend by pushing my stuffed bird's button a hundred times, I will never forget what to listen for, as well.
As fun as the Audubon toys are, I can't afford to buy one for every birdsong I'd like to learn. And although it's amusing to open this article with my approximation of birdspeak, I think you'll get more from the expert who will become birders' - amateur and serious - new best friend. Stan Tekiela is an award-winning author, wildlife photographer, naturalist, columnist, and radio-show host from Minnesota. To date, Stan has published nearly sixty books, filled with gorgeous, close-up color photos, and well-organized information. His books include guides on birds in nearly forty states as well as regions like the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. He has also penned books on categories of birds, such as raptors or geese; family nature guides; a how-to begin mushroom hunting; and several guides to regional tree and wildflower identification.
With his bird guides for specific states, Stan has taken out the guesswork that comes with larger classics like Audubon, Stokes, Peterson or National Geographic - "does this bird even live in my area?" And best of all, almost every Stan Tekiela state bird book has a companion audio CD (or CDs). At the bottom of every information page in the bird books, there is a reference to the CD track number where one can hear the bird matching the description and photo from the book! The CDs can be purchased separately, or as part of a guidebook-and-CD set at very reasonable prices (suggested retail price of most guide books is around $13, and the CD is around $15). Now that's birding for dummies or for idiots, without the name-calling! I'm thrilled with this new discovery, which will save me from drowning in a hundred of stuffed birds, keep me in good graces with Kevin and Hobo (not always an easy trick, between the two of them), and give me a gift option for last-minute or hard-to-buy-for folks. Plus, I'm hoping to look super-knowledgeable this coming spring and summer as I name birds everywhere I go. Too bad this wasn't available to me when I was a camp counselor. But, it's never too late to learn these heart-lifting songs and teach them to others. My grandmother, Laura, would be proud.

The first bird book I reach for!.......2007-09-01
Superb little book that covers most of the birds we see here (Northeast Pennsylvania), enlivened by wonderful text, particularly "Stan's Notes" at the end of each page, which has provided many new tidbits of information. Full page pictures are excellent, and birds are organized by color, with females given their own page when sufficiently different than the male, making it exceptionally easy for id purposes. We don't have the audio CD that is the companion to this book, but plan to get it so we can also hear the bird songs associated with each entry. We have many bird books, but because of the big pictures and excellent text, this is the one most dog-eared and used (we also keep one in the car). A must for both amateur and serious birders.
Excellent pocket guide!.......2007-06-26
If you have a bird in your yard, and you don't know what it is, how would you find out? If you live in PA, you would open this copy. It's catagorized by the primary color of the bird for quick reference. Then, in those colored sections, the bird names are organized by size: smallest to largest. So, if you have a small gray bird with a red head, you can find his name within seconds. Each entry has a brief description, migratory pattern with map, mating habits, call description, and more.
You won't find a whole lot of information about each bird in this book, but that's not its primary purpose anyway. When you want to identify a PA bird quickly and on-site, this is your book.
In fact, I just purchased a second copy to give as a gift...it's that good.
Birds of Pennsylvania Field Guide, Second Edition.......2007-01-20
A pocket size guide thats easy to use. Great photographs so that you see an actual bird not an artists portrayal.
Simply the best.......2007-01-11
This little book is fantasic! The pictures are great and the discussions of each bird include tips that are very helpful in identification.
