Book Description
Baby Piggy loves to use her pacifier. She uses it everyday. Then one day her nanny asks Piggy if she can play without it, But Piggy gets upset. Later, Piggy sees her friends playing without any pacifiers and realises that she doesn't need one either. And in an adorable poem, she says "Goodbye" to her pacifier and plays with her friends without it. She sometimes thinks of it, but she knows she doesn't need it.

A Big Help From The Library.......2004-11-07
Baby Piggy loves her pacifier. She uses it every day. Then, one day, her baby-sitter asks her if she can play without it. Piggy tries to play without it for a few minutes, but she gets upset, so her baby-sitter gives it back. Until one day, Piggy realizes that none of her friends use a pacifier. From that day on, Piggy gave up her pacifier and her baby-sitter took it away. I got this book from our old local library and it helped my sister to say bye-bye to her pacifier.
No more Pacifier!!.......2002-06-03
This book helped my daughter get ready to say "bye bye" to her
pacifier. She still likes to read the book even now that the pacifier is gone.
My daughter tossed her binky after 2 weeks with this book!.......2001-06-04
I bought my daughter this book two weeks ago. She is two months shy of 3 years old. She has always been tremendously comforted by her binky. We have been limiting her binky use to naps and bedtime and extreme distress for quite a while now, but have been anxious for her to get rid of it. After a week of reading this book, she turned to me and said, "I'm not ready, Mommy." I told her she'd be ready one day. One week later, yesterday morning, she woke up saying, "Mommy, I'm ready to say Bye Bye Binky!" I am convinced it's because of this book. I asked her what she wanted to do with the binky and she said "Throw it in the trash." And that she did. She was aware that Baby Miss Piggy doesn't throw hers in the trash, but we kind of glossed over that part. My daughter appreciated that the first time Nanny suggests that Baby Piggy is too old for the pacifier, she said she still wanted it and did get it back. I think it helps, too, that the book has a part where Baby Piggy says she feels kind of silly because her friends don't use a pacifier anymore. I know my daughter gave up her binky on her own two months ago at preschool for that very reason. At first I thought this book would be too babyish for my daughter, but it clearly wasn't.
A big help from Santa.......2000-11-13
Santa sent this book to my son when he was three and still using his pacifier. When I read this cute book to my son that Santa sent, he imediatly threw away his pacie and never said anything about it again. I believe he made this decission because the book came from Santa. It was signed in the back of the book, " Dear Tony , you are a big boy now and it is time to say Bye Bye to your pacifier, Love, Santa Clause. Thanks Santa, for a wonderful book that helped solve a little problem.

Puppy too small.......2002-07-07
This book was bought for me when I was expecting my second child. This child was autistic. This is the book that helped my son enjoy reading and looking at the pictures. Because my son can't actually read yet he knows the story by heart as well as our actions, especially the ending. I just wish Cindy Skezeres would realize the impact that she's had on my son.
Got a copy and love it!.......2000-01-21
I recommended this book already, but now my faith has been reaffirmed! My daughter (just six months old now) and I got a copy via Amazon.com for Christmas. Laura doesn't talk yet, of course, but we read books all the time, anyway. I think her favorite (and mine) is Puppy Too Small. There's enough rhythm in the language to keep her happy, and the illustrations are bright and clever enough to bring a smile both to her face and mine.
Great book for kids (and adults).......2000-01-11
I gave this book to a friend of mine's kids, and they never got tired of hearing about 'puppy to small'. I wish I had gotten a copy of my own, and hope the author/publisher will reprint some of her older titles, because they are terrific. My friend is holding on to the books for her grandkids, and buys new ones of this author as she finds them. I found them fun to read to kids, and buy several of Cyndy's books to keep on hand as gifts. The moving on recently helped a two-year old with the trauma of moving houses. The author just hits home for kids, with a little fun thrown in!
This is a good book........1999-07-03
Along with "Bye Bye Diapers," this book was my all-time favorite. I never got tired of reading it. Unfortunately, my nephew (the book's owner) took the book with him to Mississippi and I now have no access to this bedtime classic.

Customer Reviews:
Good book, kids love it.......2003-09-09
I'd have given it a 5 if it was as good as Thumpity Thump Gets Dressed but since it seems a little weaker, I give it a 4. I may be biased since my daughter likes Thumpity better!
That said, all of these series of her books are excellent. The art is the real draw, it's well done, it's pleasant, and the little ones just seem drawn to it. Isn't that the point of a children's book?

Hide and Seek.......2001-07-05
This is a book my daughter LOVED looking at. She loved looking for all the hidden characters and all the attention getting detail. Plus playing along with the duck and bunny were great fun for her. Great introduction to reading and books.
Read it again!.......2001-02-08
This is the first book that my 13 month old wants to look at over and over. It's fun because there are a lot of things to point out on every page - flowers, various bugs, acorns and seeds - which helps keep it interesting for the parent, too.
mother of one daughter.......2000-04-05
a favorite among all the children I babysat because it wasn't just a read but an interactive book we had to find the duck on each page and there was as always a picture of the childs pull toy car hidden in the book that the children enjoyed finding and the ending was just what the children wanted the ending to be! A must for every book shelf! I have three on order for three friends who are pregnant and know they will love it as much as we have!
a mom of two toddlers.......1999-11-24
I was give this book as a gift and it has become my 3 year olds favorite book she got it when she was one. The pictures are wonderful and full of illustration to talk about, there is different little creatures hidden in the pictures and just a fun little story we enjoyed this so much now when I buy books for other kids I usually try and find books on this author. Another one of our favorites is 'Kisses' by the same author.

Book Description
Slippers does not like naptime. There is too much for a puppy to do instead of sleep. Before he can settle down, he has to collect a few things. One by one he finds Edward's shoe, Laura's cap, and Daddy's work glove-all of which smell like them-and puts them in his little house. When it's time to go for a walk with Mommy, Slippers is too tired. Now, finally, Slippers is ready for naptime. Full of rambunctious play and inimitable personality, Slippers will win over children's hearts as he helps them learn to read.
Customer Reviews:
Portrait of the Dog as a Young Dog.......2005-11-07
Andrew Clements and Janie Bynum certainly know their dogs. In "Slippers," they have found the "everydog," a canine so true in behavior and physical appearance that he speaks to a whole species. IF you enjoy dogs, and want an accurate--hence fun and irrepressible--representation, this is the book for you and your young audience.
Slippers is an adorable mutt, who, like Cindy Szekeres' "Nothing to Do Puppy," is bored. The other family members are busy or, in the case of little Edward, napping. So Slippers hunkers down in his doghouse, head on paw, and tries to nap himself. Except....except...there are too many sounds and too many smells to keep him down long! He runs and leaps outside, where he helps Mommy with her gardening by uprooting and eating all the plants. Coming back into the house for a drink, he drags his muddy paws over the kitchen table and follows his nose to Edward's spilt milk. Ahhhh! The expressive dog gives a smiling yawn, curls up, closes one ye, and then the other, and tries to sleep. Once again, though, his upturned nose smells Edward!
But it wasn't Edward.
It was just Edward's shoe.
But it smelled very nice, just like Edward.
After licking and chewing the shoe, he places it under his pillow, and again closes first one eye, and then the other. Similar sounds and scents (Slippers has a very active nose!), lead to the discovery of a dripping bathtub, daughter Laura's cap, Daddy's work glove. Slippers' active senses lead to messes around the house, and a slew of items under his pillow! Finally, Edward wakes up, and he has something family-approved to do: Accompany the toddler on a walk. All that busy detective work, however, finally leads him to sleep.
The book excels in capturing a dog's day, and illustrator Janie Bynum somehow combines simplicity with keenly observed illustrations of canine movements and facial expressions. Ms. Bynum and author Andrew Clements capture the essence of the dog. The plot realistically drives the puppy's inadvertently messy adventures, and, of course, echoes the distractions that keep infants and toddlers so persistently awake. Fans of this duo may want to check out "Slippers at Home," as well as their websites, www.frindle.com (Clements) and www.janiebynum.com.

Book Description
By Christmas 1914, the wild wave of enthusiasm that had sent men flocking to join up a few months earlier began to tail off, and though the original British Expeditionary Force had suffered 90 percent casualties, most people, particularly the soldiers themselves, still believed that 1915 would see the breaking of the deadlock. But their hopes were shattered on the bloody battlefields of Neuve Chapelle, Ypres, Loos, and far away on the shores of Gallipoli.
Lyn Macdonald's story of 1915 is stark, brutal, frank, sometimes painfully funny, always human. Never before has any writer collected so many firsthand accounts of the experiences of ordinary soldiers, through diaries, letters, and interviews with survivors--and it is the dogged heroism and sardonic humor of the soldiers that shine through the pages of this epic narrative. 1915 is a uniquely compelling blend of military history and poignant memories of the fighters who survived the ordeal.
Customer Reviews:
1915 A classic account of the true horrors of war.......2002-10-17
Lyn MacDonald's book captures the true and complete horror of warfare in this book. Rich in detail and telling accounts by the men that fought in the savage and bloody battles in 1915. A must read for someone trying to understand the daily misery and destruction of a generation of brave men. By far, my favorite book in the series, but not to discount the others, each of which is a classic and should be read in sequence to grasp the fullness of the story of The Great War.
The BEF in 1915.......2002-08-01
First and foremost, this book is an account of the experiences of British soldiers on the Western Front in 1915. It's not, and does not purport to be, a general history of 1915 - the focus is firmly on the British. Having said that, Lyn Macdonald does give some attention to events on the "Home Front" but only in so far as they affected directly the lives of the soldiers. She also draws attention to the fact that the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in France was in fact a multi-national affair - for example, there were (among others) Indian and Canadian troops in the BEF - indeed the latter, among with French Colonial troops, were the first to be subjected to German gas attacks.
The main battles covered are Neuve Chapelle, Ypres and Loos, but there are chapters on the Gallipoli campaign. Although the Gallipoli chapters are well-written, they are subsidiary to the descriptions of the Western Front, and therefore might disappoint readers who are looking for a more detailed examination of that campaign.
The success of Lyn Macdonald's method of writing about World War One is her skilful use of first-hand accounts: the ordinary soldiers and officers are "allowed" to relate their experiences to the reader, with Macdonald linking those accounts with her own narrative - acting as a guide, as it were. Therefore the reader is given the opportunity to get closer to an real appreciation of what it must have been like (although given the horrors the troops went through this can only, thank goodness, still be an very distant approximation).
There were things in my edition which were irritating: several sloppy grammatical and spelling errors; and some unfortunate, unsubstantiated assertions, such as "... the Guards [were] the best of all the soldiers in an army that ws generally acknowledged to be the best army in the world." Although I was full of admiration of the British (and other) soldiers after reading the book, I thought that trotting out a sentence like that and asking people to take it as a self-evident truth was overdoing it.
Having said that, this is still a fine, and at times, moving book.
Mysteriously compels you to read it again and again.......2002-04-11
The other reviewers have spoken to Lyn MacDonalds style and areas of expertise. My experience with this book is that compells me to read it again and again. I pick it up and start reading it in mid chapter, and it's always interesting despite the number of times I have read it. Every page has completely engrossing narrative, so it hooks me any time I pick it up. The account of miners tunnelling underneath enemy lines is particularly memorable.
I'm definitely going to pick up everything else she has written.
Death of innocence sums it up nicely.......2002-03-14
Some people may criticise this book for not including the French. But to do that, it would have to come in several volumes. World War One is just too vast to include everyone from both sides in one volume. What is covered very well is the experiences of those at the "sharp end". Generals and maps are very well for those who want to follow the overall view, but that does not cover the misery of the rifleman and company officers who did not have the luxury of comfortable billets and lack of danger enjoyed by the higher ranks. Drawing a line on a piece of paper is a far cry from having to man that line. Ordering an attack is easy for those who don't have to do the attacking and have no idea of the conditions of the soldier who has to advance through mud and barbed wire. I am reminded of a staff officer who, on seeing the actual front line after the battle of the Somme said "My God, did we send men to fight in that!"
A Very Small Part of the Story of 1915 on the Western Front.......2001-06-16
Lyn MacDonald's book on 1915 mirrors her patented participant-oriented storytelling evidenced in "Somme" and "They Called it Passchendaele..." However, while the aforementioned titles mostly succeed because of the British-heavy focus of the battles, "1915: The Death of Innocence" cannot begin to tell the whole story of 1915. As a result, it does not even try.
Obviously, MacDonald, as a British woman and patriot, is only concerned with the British perspective of 1915. The trouble with that is that the French Army held 85% of the Western Front in 1915; the British number of 15% was reached only at the end of the year. And yet, for hundreds of pages, small engagements (especially in relation to the tremendous French campaigns further south on the front) are given mind-numbing detail while the main pillar of the Allied alliance, at least until the Spring of 1917, is all but ignored.
Some readers find the first-person perspective of MacDonald's books grating, but I like the fact that these veterans' voices are put in print, in their own words, before they died. This makes "1915" a good source for primary sources. However, if you're interested in the REST of 1915 on the Western Front, and by REST I mean events on the OTHER 400 mile front held by the French, you will be sorely disappointed.

The West Transformed is a comprehensive, mainstream introductory Western Civilization or European History textbook. It covers a variety of fields of history including social history, but stresses traditional topics and a strong narrative. The development of civilization in the West is presented as a series of cultural, technological, social, and political transformations. A strong unifying theme focuses on the tensions between continuity and change in human affairs.

A very good book.......2000-10-15
I used this book for my survey course in European history, and it was excellent. It is very descriptive and very interesting to read. It can be a little dense at times, but it is well worth the price.

Book Description
The West: Encounters & Transformations takes a new approach to telling the story of Western Civilization. Rather than looking at Western Civilization only as the history of Europe from ancient times to the present, this groundbreaking book examines the changing nature of the West–how the definition of the West has evolved and transformed throughout history.
The text presents a balanced treatment of political, social, religious, and cultural history and emphasizes the ever-shifting boundaries of the geographic and cultural realm of the West.
Overview of Western Civilization.

Fantastic textbook.......2007-02-01
This textbook is not only written in a conversational tone which holds the reader's attention, but it brings in art, personalities of historical figures, and other tidbits to enhance a student's learning experience. The illustrations used are fantastic and can spur students to delve further into many subjects. History should be exciting as evidenced by this book!

Book Description
This is Volume C (chapters 19-29) of the best-selling Western civilization text that has helped hundreds of thousands of students learn about the present by exploring the past. Jack Spielvogel's engaging, chronological narrative weaves the political, economic, social, religious, intellectual, cultural, and military aspects of history into a gripping story that is as memorable as it is instructive. Each chapter offers a substantial introduction and conclusion that sparks students' imaginations by giving them a context within which to understand these disparate themes. And while the single-author narrative makes it easy for students to follow the story of Western civilization, Spielvogel has included dozens of maps and primary sources--including official documents, poems, and songs--that enliven the past while introducing students to the challenges involved in interpreting history. This text is available in many split options: WESTERN CIVILIZATION, Comprehensive, Fifth Edition (Chapters 1-29), ISBN: 0-534-60006-9 WESTERN CIVILIZATION, Volume I, To 1715, Fifth Edition (Chapters 1-16), ISBN: 0-534-60007-7 WESTERN CIVILIZATION, Volume II, Since 1550, Fifth Edition (Chapters 13-29), ISBN: 0-534-60008-5 WESTERN CIVILIZATION, Volume A: To 1500, Fifth Edition (Chapters 1-12), ISBN: 0-534-52949-6 WESTERN CIVILIZATION, Volume B: 1300-1815, Fifth Edition (Chapters 11-19), ISBN: 0-534-52950-X WESTERN CIVILIZATION, Volume C: Since 1789, Fifth Edition (Chapters 19-29), ISBN: 0-534-52952-6 WESTERN CIVILIZATION, Since 1300, Fifth Edition (Chapters 11-29), ISBN: 0-534-60010-7
Customer Reviews:
Good Overview.......2000-05-18
This book lives up to what it is supposed to be, an overview ofmodern European History. I am not fond of textbook overviews, butthat is what this is, and it does its job. It gives the reader a basic history from the French Revolution to the popular culture of the last 30 years. However, it is still a "textbook" and does not cover anything in depth.
