I'm consider myself as a big fan of the napoleonic cavalry, on his time was one of the best and if on waterloo most of it was finish by the English infantry it never loose their title as one of the best prepare and well trained of his time in Europe. One particular unit is the famous HUSSARS, this book try to explore their equipment, uniforms and weapons with the help of the great Illustrator Angus McBride.
Their famous pursuit of 1806 in Jena make then change the idea of why the light cavalry was so important, this is why Emir Bukhari describe the organization with the help of some great illustration taken from the Book of Cdt Bucquoy, La Cavalerie Legere by Pierre Benigni, all the black illustrations are from the 1st Hussars but the color plates are from almost the most important regiments, trumpeters, officers,sappers and troopers are some of the uniforms portray in this book.
Emir Bukhari describes the organization, war records, dress and equipment and the weapons.
If you are a re-enactor or just a fan of Napoleonic Uniforms this is what you are looking for also the small bibliography would help you if you want to know more.
I recommend that if you are interesting start reading the great Book by Edouard Detaille L'Armee Francaise or the great books by F. G. Hourtoulle Jena,Auerstaedt:The Triumph of the Eagle, Borondino and the Napoleonic Epic on this great book you would find more about the French Hussars, without forgeting that the author Emir Bukhari have other great books also about the french cavalry, Napoleon's Dragoons and Lancers, Cuirassiers & Carabininers,Line Chasseurs and the famous Napoleon's Guard Cavalry

puts midwest history in perspective.......2000-01-30

As a midwesterner, it is fascinating to read about how things might have been for those who lived here and roamed these hills long before. The author sure knows how to bring the reader into a different time smoothly; I've read the four other titles in her midwest chronology, and they are all books you'd like to curl up and read nonstop, but are so interwoven and interesting that you will savor them over many reading sessions. The book interested me initially because it was about McClures written by a McClure. I was quite amazed at how closely it resembled my own McClure family's saga. I would very much like to discuss it with the author if she reads these reviews.

This EMS volume consists of two parts, written by leading scientists in the field of operator algebras and non-commutative geometry. The first part, written by M.Rordam, is on Elliott's classification program for nuclear C*-algebras. The emphasis is on the work of Kirchberg and the spectacular results by Kirchberg and Phillips giving a nearly complete classification, in terms of K-theoretic invariants, in the purely infinite case. This part of the program is described with almost full proofs beginning with Kirchberg's tensor product theorems and Kirchberg's embedding theorem for exact C*-algebras. The classification of finite simple C*-algebras starting with AF-algebras, and continuing with AT- and AH-algebras is covered, but mostly without proofs. The second part, written by E.Stormer, is a survey of the theory of of noncommutative entropy of automorphisms of C*-algebras and von Neumann algebras from its initiation by Connes and Stormer in 1975 till 2001.

Understanding dissipative dynamics of open quantum systems remains a challenge in mathematical physics. This problem is relevant in various areas of fundamental and applied physics. From a mathematical point of view, it involves a large body of knowledge. Significant progress in the understanding of such systems has been made during the last decade. These books present in a self-contained way the mathematical theories involved in the modeling of such phenomena. They describe physically relevant models, develop their mathematical analysis and derive their physical implications.

In Volume I the Hamiltonian description of quantum open systems is discussed. This includes an introduction to quantum statistical mechanics and its operator algebraic formulation, modular theory, spectral analysis and their applications to quantum dynamical systems.

Volume II is dedicated to the Markovian formalism of classical and quantum open systems. A complete exposition of noise theory, Markov processes and stochastic differential equations, both in the classical and the quantum context, is provided. These mathematical tools are put into perspective with physical motivations and applications.

Volume III is devoted to recent developments and applications. The topics discussed include the non-equilibrium properties of open quantum systems, the Fermi Golden Rule and weak coupling limit, quantum irreversibility and decoherence, qualitative behaviour of quantum Markov semigroups and continual quantum measurements.

This book is concerned with the theory of unbounded derivations in C*-algebras, a subject whose study was motivated by questions in quantum physics and statistical mechanics, and to which the author has made considerable contributions. This is an active area of research, and one of the most ambitious aims of the theory is to develop quantum statistical mechanics within the framework of C*-theory. The presentation concentrates on topics involving quantum statistical mechanics and differentiations on manifolds. One of the goals is to formulate the absence theorem of phase transitions in its most general form within the C* setting. For the first time, the author globally constructs, within that setting, derivations for a fairly wide class of interacting models, and presents a new axiomatic treatment of the construction of time evolutions and KMS states.
