This is a great series.......2007-03-25

This is a wonderful series about two people who shared their lives with four children who otherwise would have ended up as statistics. Each book tells the story of a son they adopted, and the fourth book in the series tells of the last adopted son, but shows how these two people changed so many lives just by giving love. It gives you hope without hype. Buying the series makes it even better because you can immediately go from one the next and it all stays tied together neatly with no stops. Also, it's cheaper in the set than separately!

I had not read the books, so the abridged cd's were just fine for me. I have difficulty reading the printed page anymore so I always enjoy books on cd. These were intriguing and kept me wanting more.

Great Story.......2007-06-04

I enjoyed the storylines of the Quinn Brothers. I have read hundreds of novels and never ran onto this scenario before. Three brothers from horrible circumstances taken in by this loving nurturing couple and given a chance in life, then add the younger damaged Seth and watch how the older brothers joined together to make a home and fight for him. I thought each brother found the right romance for them (strong women to handle strong men) and this series has been my favorite so far. There is a lot of humor and I enjoy it when there are special pets or children who lighten things up and Ms Roberts does that in a lot of her books. If I had a criticism of anything, it was the overuse of the f*** word which to me was used at times where totally out of place. Of course, I think it's a word that could be done away with entirely. I have a difficult time hearing educated people resort to this word. Like they can't think of some other way to express themselves. I just felt it was overdone in this series. I read the McQuade Series and another great series of brothers and Ms Roberts doesn't use this language nearly as much in it so was wondering why she chose to use so much foul language in this series. Because of the language I gave it a 4 but for content would give it a 5. I just thought it was a unique storyline. Being adopted myself and taken from a bad enviornment (though not on the Quinn Brothers scale)I could relate to be given that second chance of a better life. I think anyone would enjoy the series of these strong, yet damaged men who find their place in life.

I fell in love with the men in these books. They are amazing characters and the women they get involved with are great. The villian is so great in her ability to be hated...just love to hate her. The stories are so great and the love stories, the actual issues and trials are just so well done. The visitation by a dearly departed is well used and not cliche at all.
I love the readers for the audio cds. Great voice. I have put all 4 of the quinn's books into my ipod and listen to them in the car and at the gym.

God bless Roberts and her Quinns. If only such men were in existence...and were my neighbors...-sigh-

I absolutely fell in love with the Quinn brothers. My daughter has as well. Would love to these characters brought to life in a mini-series on Lifetime. I also would love for Ms. Roberts to do Ray and Stella's story.

This series is a definite must read. The Chesapeake Bay Series Is what got me hooked on Nora Roberts Books. The story lines are great. The characters are awesome. You just have to keep reading until you find out what happens. Each story is completely different yet, each one is linked to the others in a way that only Nora Roberts can portray.You don't know what you are missing if you don't read it.

I picked up a copy of this book at the 2007 Hawai'i Conservation Conference, where author David Helvarg was a keynote speaker. Helvarg is president of the Blue Frontier Campaign, an ocean advocacy group.

50 Ways to Save the Ocean is a book with a mission. That mission is to convince the reader that:

1. The oceans are in trouble and need your help.

2. There are things each person can do to assist in the conservation of our oceanic resources, even if you live in Kansas.

Most of the ideas are good, and I appreciate that Helvarg went beyond the "donate money to..." strategies that most Americans get in their weekly mail solicitations (although he encourages you to donate money to a variety of causes and organizations). He promotes activism: volunteering, writing, and lobbying. He notes the power of consumerism in affecting how the ocean's resources are exploited ("follow the money").

I found that I do about 3/4 of the actions he recommends. The question is, how does this information get into the hands of those who are not already involved in ocean protection issues?

I just spent 2 weeks with my Canadian nephews who are 8, 11, and 13 years old. Most of our evenings were spent in an endless Spongebob Marathon - Right after they left and went home, I came across this book and thought it would be a great companion reference for any Spongebob fans. Little did I know that Sponges are being overharvested and take many years to grow. Well, I'm sending my nephews a copy of this book so they can get a reality check on what's really going on in Bikini Bottom - and perhaps they could find their own everyday ways to participate in the healing of the ocean. -This is a Great Reference book for parents and kids.

Great Family Book!.......2006-05-16

This is an excellent book to help teach your family about caring for our oceans! The ideas and illustrations are fantastic to read with kids. Almost all of the suggestions can be accomplished as a family, too. Going to the beach, going on a whale-watching trip, visiting tide pools, eating healthy and sustainable seafood, etc., are all great family activities! This book makes it easy to get your whole family together and interested in saving our oceans. Also really helpful in giving extra meaning to family activities, as everything can be prefaced with an interesting suggestion from this book. It will certainly also improve your kids' self-esteem, knowing they are helping the environment. On top of that, it is a great read!

INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING.......2004-11-24

I suffered through three-quarters of this book then took it back to the libary without bothering to finish it. i simply DID NOT CARE about the story or characters. I told myself if the author wrote, "dear bookbuyer" one more time within the book, I'd throw the book into a river (which I couldn't do since it wasn't my book, but would have loved to!) I was really surprised at how horrible this book was since i figured the author of Schindler's List (which I haven't yet read) would know how to write!

First of all, this book goes so many times out of the main story that is difficult to remember it, the main story could be written in 50 pages or less, you won't take anything of this book, maybe two or three things about the animals Down Under but that is all. The story doesn't have any sense since the first page till the last one.

The Fantasy of Reinvention.......2003-04-14

The central idea of this book, it seemed to me, has to do with abandoning one life for another. If one thinks of this as essentially the American idea of reinventing oneself, Thomas Kenneally informs us that it is also very Australian, and rightly so, for Australia is a land that is full of hiding places for those who wish not to be found. The protagonist is a woman who can no longer bear the agony of her existence after the death of her children--and so attempts to do away with her identity and her history by traveling to the Outback under an assumed name. Simple enough, one might think--but here is where Kenneally's genius takes root, for we are taken on a wild and wooly ride as Kate becomes deeply embedded in the lives of a diverse set of characters, unschooled and totally remote from the sophistition and nuance that formed her own upbringing. A wild bunch indeed, they are incredibly touching in their sense of loyalty and courage. There is a surreal quality to this adventure that is heightened even more by the introduction of two pets, a kangaroo and an emu, native species which are somehow incorporated into this world of carnival and misadventure--an Australian "Don Quixote." A brilliant and stirring enactment--let them try to make a film of it!!

Great Book to Compliment Great Class.......2007-07-08

The strength of this book is its organization. The reader is first introduced to the relation of arc length, radius, and angle. Then degrees and radians are learned. Then the unit circle is introduced. This is one of the best ways to learn trig.

The textbook presents the theory in a clear way that is easy to follow. If you were to read the chapter, you know enough to answer any of the problems. And if you were decided between texts, the layout of the problems of this text would be the reason to choose it. That is because of the science and real world applications of the problems. This is not "plug and chug." It is applying what was learned.

For me this book and the class in which it was used formed the foundation of all my latter math courses. This book has some pre-calculus problems, but that isn't its focus. Calculus has its advantages, but I always found trig to be more visual than most things in calculus. It is easier to picture what is actually going on in the math problem. But if you can relate your newly learned problem solving skills when approaching calculus problems, you will have no trouble.

One of my favorite problems in this book, which was included in the sixth edition on page 281, problem 71, is about an arched doorway. I don't know if the current versions have this problem. However it is worth researching. On my website (see my profile), I discuss this problem. And the excellent problems is what make this the best trig book I've seen.

It provides wide range of practical applications, with plain English, colorful pages, step by step from basic to advanced approach. It has got answers at the back. I recommend it`s Instructor`s solutions manual as well...
