It is only the Lord who knows the right way and He ALONE who can shed light on your dark and confusing path.

I am sharing with you the series of humbling YET challenging truths revealed to me these past few years that healed and restored my shattered heart and mind from an abusive marriage.

The Lord is not a respecter of persons, and what He has done for me, He will do for you.

Abuse can be defined as "abnormal use of the original intended purpose."

Abuse comes in many forms: mental, emotional, verbal, destruction of personal property, sexual and physical. Regardless of the method, the devastating effects are still the same. As a result of abuse, the heart, mind, and inner soul become wounded.

Similar to when you are afflicted with a physical wound, your heart and soul builds up "scar tissue" to protect yourself if the violating behavior continues. Sadly, over time, you too become "calloused" in that area for perceived inner self-preservation.

With physical wounds, the healing process involves opening the calloused/scarred area then cleansing out the original wound, so FRESH new tissue may emerge. During the cleansing phase, sometimes the rinsing wash stings as the toxins flush away.

As you journey with this guidebook, the inner wounds of your heart will be reopened, then cleansed with the "water" of God's Word so you may enjoy FRESH new inner tissue of the soul and heart. In September 1791, two years after the Revolution, French Jews were granted full rights of citizenship. General and Jewish scholarship has traditionally focused on this turning point of emancipation while often overlooking many of the most crucial aspects of French Jewish history. In Rites and Passages, Jay R. Berkovitz argues that no serious treatment of Jewish emancipation can ignore the cultural history of the Jews during the ancien régime. It was during the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that several lasting paradigms emerged within the Jewish community--including the distinction between rural and urban communities, the formation of a strong lay leadership, heightened divisions between popular and elite religion, and the strain between local and regional identities. Each of these developments reflected the growing tension between tradition and modernity before the tumultuous events of the French Revolution. Rites and Passages emphasizes the resilience of religious tradition during periods of social and political turbulence. Viewing French Jewish history through the lens of ritual, Berkovitz describes the struggles of the French Jewish minority to maintain its cultural distinctiveness while also participating in the larger social and economic matrix. In the ancien régime, ritual systems were a formative element in the traditional worldview and served as a crucial repository of memories and values. After the Revolution, ritual signaled changes in the way Jews related to the state, French society, and French culture. In the cities especially, ritual assumed a performative function that dramatized the epoch-making changes of the day. The terms and concepts of the Jewish religious tradition thus remained central to the discourse of modernization and played a powerful role in helping French Jews interpret the diverse meanings and implications of emancipation. Here, I am also commenting on the Supplements to this book, which the publisher periodically issues.

The encyclopedia is excellent for a broad discussion of the hardware and software in computing. It has to regularly come out with Supplements because of the ongoing improvments in the field. All the major contributors to computing are discussed, with a good synopsis for each, explaining his or her bailiwick. The treatment is about 50-50 between hardware and software. The articles tend to discuss the main ideas, and the encyclopedia and its supplements should not be seen as even an attempt at a summary of vendors' offerings.

Mostly reprints of old articles.......2004-05-27

Many articles in this 2. edition are just reprints of articles from the 1 edition. It is a real problem that the articles are not dated or have otherwise been indicated whether they are new in this edition (from 2003) or have just been reprinted without updating from the first edition which was published in 73 volumes from 1968 until 2003. (Vol 1-33 A-Z; Vol. 34+35 = Index; Vol 36-73 = supplements)

For example, the article "Philosophy of Science" was pubished in 1977. It is reprinted in the 2nd edition without any changes in content (only typographical changes such as two columns). In the 2nd edition we are misinformed that this entry is "Print Published: 05/20/2003 | Online Published: 06/23/2003". The readers are thus misled concerning what they are reading. This is tru for many articles, I guess much more than 50%.

The only way you can tell whether the article is revised or updated is by looking at the references and see if new references are included - in most cases they are not (alternatively, of course compare the articles in the two editions page by page).

Both the first edition and the second edition have a heavy emphazis on specific libraries in specific countries and is weak in theoretical and conceptual issues.

When this is said, it should be said that there are many important articles in this work and it is an obvious advantage that it is available online and the papers available as pdf-files. I have now read usefull articles that I would not have read if I had to make paper copies from the old edition.
