Great Book!.......2004-06-27
This book is so interesting! It's got so much whichcraft stuff in it that you really can't call it just a magical names book!
A Fantasy Gamers Paradise..........2003-07-17
As a 25 year vetran of d20 role-playing games I have been searching for a definitive collection of names beyond the standard Jack and Jill and I have finally found it in "The Complete Book of Magical Names". While I have a passing interest in Wicca, I mostly purchased the book to help me satisfy my long term facination with language and particularly the names used by various ancient cultures and civilizations. I am positive that any writer or gamer would find this book an excellent edition to their collection.
Looking for a magickal name?.......2003-06-22
Whether you are looking for a craft name or a legal name, this book offers you some 'magickal' options in a fun and informative manner. Not the biggest of best name book on the market, but certainly the only one (that I am aware of) that is targeted to a Pagan audience. This book would be helpful to newbies and should be in any coven/grove library.
A wonderful reference manual for Pagans and Non-Pagans alike.......2002-10-05
I am a Pagan, I am also a writer and avid role-player and this book has been invaluable to me in every aspect of those things. I highly recommend this book not only for Pagans but also for writers and rp'ers who just get stumped when it comes to coming up with names like me. You will absolutely love this book.
how authentic is it?.......2002-09-08
An interesting book with lots of beautiful names... but how authentic are they? Would you really dare to name your children after the names given in this book? As a Finnish reader I was most amused (and a bit annoyed too) by the Finnish names given in the book. For example Nakki means a sausage in the Finnish language and the proper and right name for the water elf (which is by the way usually seen most evil and tricky in folklore) would have two oh so important dots above the letter a, thus:ä.
It makes me wonder how right and authentic the rest of the names are from the cultures and languages i don't know? A good source for role play characters anyway.

Customer Reviews:
Best, most unique baby name book I've found.......2007-02-22
In a world of baby name books that are all the same as what you find on the internet for free, this book stands out. With a large intro section on different naming philosophies and ideas on how to make up your own name if you want, it's a complete guide - not just a list of names. Which there are tons of in this book. Many of the names are more common, but also included are names from all over the world. I feel like I'm not just searching for a name for my baby, but also learning a little bit about different cultures around the world to boot!
I nearly didn't purchase the book because of the name, but on closer inspection I was impressed. If there was one suggestion I would have for the author, it would be to change the name. "New Age" doesn't mean the same thing now that it used to mean when it was a newly created term.
Overall, this is a highly original resource for parents looking to name their child something different and/or original, or something with lots of cultural significance.
Going to the Web instead.......2006-11-09
This book is useless. I've already thrown it away. It's much easier to go online by searching with the keyword "baby names". There are serveral sites where you can find names by gender, meaning and origin.
An enjoyable book.A real classic........2006-06-29
As there are so many baby names books I found it hard to narrow the choices.I read other reviews of this book and finally purchased it.It was a good choice.I enjoyed this book. Not your average-boring book but a very well researched book. The book has character. One of the most comprehensive listing of names and variations I have ever seen and that makes this book better than most.Interesting trivia throughout too.Plenty of advice on what to consider when naming a baby.
Its a good size book, printed on good quality paper with a unique cover, etc make this book a worthwhile addition.
I also recommend these:
"Whats wrong with every name in the book:don't name your baby".By David Narter.
"The very best baby name book in the whole wide world".By Bruce Lansky.
Top of the Top 23.......2005-08-09
Creative great list and fun to go through all the names are there to pick and choose from. A great book for everyone.
Great Book.......2003-09-11
It has mainly traditional names in it. (more so than any other book i had looked at). Plus it has great little tidbits mixed in!

Customer Reviews:
Awesome resource.......2006-08-24
I found this book while working at a large chain bookstore, stuffed behind all the others on a shelf, lost for years. What a treasure! I was stunned to find my unusual (self-chosen) name included, and the name I was given at birth, but most of all, to discover the REASON my birth name never fit! Why it always gave me the willies to speak it aloud! And to learn that I'd chosen a name for myself that not only fits my personality, but my highest aspirations, all the qualities in myself I wished to reinforce and none of those I'd rather do without.
I highly recommend this book for sheer fun and enlightenment! Not much explanation for how Mr. Le Rouzic determined all these things (sadly, because I'd love to know); I wish it had a companion volume explaining this. But I do know that the frequency or resonance of the names we bear does indeed have an important impact on our lives. Must have been his life's work and it must have been inspired.
I think everyone should own this book for better self-understanding and improved relationships. It's costly, but your name is with you every moment of every day. Isn't a better knowledge of what it's broadcasting, both to you and about you, worth the steep price? And if it's all wrong for you--it's not too late to choose a better one!
There are better books out there.......2006-07-22
I was excited to get this book because I do believe names have their own meaning. Unfortunately, this book gives no in-depth explanation of any basis associated with names but rather assures the reader that the author has studied names for over 50 years and knows what he's talking about. The beginning of the book attempts to explain some things but only a paragraph or so is offered for each topic, certainly no real in-depth information. The whole book was terribly disappointing and the numerous typos are surprising - someone did not proof this book.
I highly recommend "The Hidden Truth of Your Name - The Nomenology Project" over this book. Fewer names are included but the principles are explained so much better. I also feel the attributes for each name are much more accurate than the ones in "The Secret Meaning of Names". The secret is to start with the right book first and to learn why there is meaning to names.
Amazing.......2004-11-13
I have had this book for a many years. It is an incredible book, the personalities match up very well and it helps you find first names and middle names that don't clash with eachother. The more common names have several different personality types to choose which describes you or someone else best, such a Lisa had two different types, number 7 and number 34, number 7 is 100% me, The Seeker of Experience. It has so many names and they match up really well to so many people. Naming is an important thing and it does effect who you are, and this helps you know yourself a little better. Pair this up with The Ony Astrology Book You Will Ever Need and you will know yourself inside and out! But as a stand alone book it is incredible, use it to know people better, and use it to have a little bit of an idea of who your children will be. Have fun!
Award Winning!.......2004-05-08
This book gave me the shakes. Wondering and knowing a name is something powerful then just nothing.. I gave this book a 10!!
amazing and astonishing!.......2002-03-08
I recently discovered "the secret meaning of names" and am, to say the least, absolutely amazed! So far I have read the descriptions of the personality traits, social traits, health, pshychology, intelligence, and emotional nature of 13 of my family and friends. And, much to my amazement, every one accurately depicts each of these people. What an amazing book, either for research or entertainment, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the study of names or people.

Fright camp is scarey, but entertaining!.......2002-02-20
When I read fright camp, I thought it was one of the best books I've ever read,it's a story where ghosts are real and you can get killed at a camp, I'd rate it five stars because it was a weird, scarey, and entertaining book. Buy it and find out for yourself
The Uncivil War.......2002-02-14
There was just a average girl that her father was the school principal, a mother that won't stop feeding her, and a boy name Robert Lee that won't keep on bugging her in school. When Robert kept on poking and making fun of her for no reason. When he calls Asa (girl's name) fatso, Asa decided that she couldn't take it anymore. Asa decides to take what is most precious to Robert and keep it forever to torture Robert. Asa wants Robert to get on his knees and say sorry for all the things he did to Asa, and also wants Robert to call Asa the Scandinavian Queen. Who will win the War of the Bulge?
I liked the book very much because you always want to know what will happen next. This book is also really fun because sometimes it is really funny among Asa and Robert. It is also funny when Asa thinks is being overfed by her mom, and finally tells her that she is feeding her too much. Asa's mom always think that big is pretty, huge is gorgeous, and jumbo is adorable!
My favorite part of the book was when Asa desperatley took Roberts Baseball card collection. That was my favorite part because Robert starts to beg Asa to give the Baseball card collection back. Finally, Asa gets the revenge that she had needed for a long time. Little by Little Asa starts to like the begging more, so she decided to keep the Baseball cards for alittle bit longer. But, Asa thought that she couldnt hold on to the baseball cards forever then she would have done more than what Robert had done to her.
Annerikia isn't the way.......2001-08-25
It is about a girl who likes this boy and makes fun of her because she is fat.She gets depressed and gets over it and loses weight! You go girl!
WOWIE! GREAT!.......2000-09-21
The Uncivil War is a book I enjoyed after buying it from my school book fair. I'm glad I chose it because I wouldn't stop reading it. It took me 5 hours to read this FABULOUS, STUPENDOUS, WONDERFUL book. If there was a sequel, I'd get it! Sheila Klass writes wonderfully and I wish to read more of her books.
EXCELLENT!.......1999-07-24
One of Sheila Klass's latest masterpieces "The Uncivil War" gives a description of a girl named Asa who is fighting two wars, one against her mother and the other against her classmate Robert Lee. And as if thats not enough her younger brother is born very premature. Sheila Klass gives a vivid description of Asa's class and her friends. And even the charachters like Asa's friend Felicia have stories tied to them. I reccomend this book to kids who are looking for an enjoyable, funny and enthralling book.

Customer Reviews:
The subtitle says it all.......2000-05-05
Newsome presents a highly readable overview of, as his subtitle puts it, Victorian "Perceptions and Introspections." The emphasis is on Victorian thought, as may be seen by the number of literary quotes that open chapters and dot the text. Those looking for a quick overview of Victorian life might be daunted by the thematic, rather than chronological, structure. Chapters, given broad amorphous titles like "Looking Inwards" and "Looking Beyond," range along the length of Victoria's reign in pursuit of the given theme. As no chronology is provided, some may find it hard to piece together all that was going on in a given time frame. What this book does do is provide a broad picture of the preoccupations, controversies and concerns of 19th century British thinkers, skillfully weaving in everything from Queen Victoria's letters to the ditties of Gilbert and Sullivan. Somewhat of an old-fashioned history (it reminded me of Walter Houghton's The Victorian Frame of Mind from the '50s), but well-crafted and pleasant to read.
