Although it may take time for the codependents eyes to adjust to the light, this book does a great job of illuminating the issues that many of us face in a way that changes the way you view everything, reading this book really made me face some things that until now I had not looked at. It pointed me in the direction of true healing. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is experiencing feelings of emptiness or feeling like they are lost.

I read this book years ago and it was life changing. Terry Kellogg clearly explains family dysfunction in a personal way that really rang true for me. I have read a lot of these types of books but HIS was the best--gentle, sad, truth but with an offer of hope at the end. I had so many 'lightbulb' moments reading this--wish he had of written it when I was a teen. Ohwell--when the student is ready the teacher will come.

I recommend this book whole-heartedly for anyone who would like to change behaviors that they are unhappy with, be able to participate more fully, naturally, and wisely in life, or have any family or childhood-related issues they would like to resolve. Excellent book for those willing to look and willing to change.
An excellent, clear, concise, readable book........1999-05-26
This is the first book that really looks candidly at the problems that individuals face when they are codependent. Throughout the book, Terry Kellogg refuses to excuse or deny behaviours whilst connecting with the multifacets of this problem. Easy language but a difficult painful read.

I was captivated by this book. It is simply a great read and very educational. I was sadden, horrified and inspired within the same breath. I simply wish that the story was one of fiction and not Carla's real life. No man, woman or child should ever experience such pain, hardship and abuse.

Land of Broken toys is a attention grabbing, heart wrenching memoir of the authors life that depicts how the innocence of children can be compromised through silent physical and sexual abuse an ultimately have damaging affects on their relationships, life experiences and lack of self-esteem. Carla St. Rose fortunately demonstrates, while inspiring the reader, determination and inner-strength to rise above her damaging obstacles in life to become an inspiration and role model to all who have encountered similar circumstances. Excitement by the Chapter.......2007-04-04
The Land of Broken Toys was an entertaining book that felt like a collection of short stories that all were made uniform by the main character, Carla. Carla's journey into life touched on intimate and social moments that the reader can relate too, and never have the strength to openly admit too. The content kept my focus and my heart actually sadden when the stories ended with some unresolved situations that never got closer, but due to life's circumstances, Carla had to move on. Therefore closure was formulated by a lack of a time, place, and opportunity to resolve these occurrences. I highly recommend this book.
A moving account of survival and triumph.......2006-12-10
Carla St. Rose Rein has written a harrowing and ultimately triumphant tale of her life. She begins with her early childhood. The close family ties and strong women she introduces us to are in stark contrast to the life of abandonment and abuse she leads after coming to the US with her mother and sisters.
The effects this has on her own adult relationships is evident as Carla leads you through her life. Her resilience is amazing. The reader shares in her realization that it is ultimately up to Carla to end the cycle of violence and abuse. Carla finds the strength and resourcefulness to do just that in her private and public life.
This book reaches out to give hope to other survivors and to caution parents that their choices have huge consequences for their children.

It is easy to forget the ameature editing job Land of Broken Toys suffers from and to get lost in the story of our heroine. The voice of Carla St. Rose-Rein is an incredibly strong one, pulling you into her story from the first page. Her strength in writing comes from an innate ability for story telling. In this fashion, her chapters are short, as if the reader has been invited into Carla's own memories as she paints her world for the reader.
Carla does not open with the meat of her story, with her abuse, rather, she draws the reader into almost a lull with a fairytale scene of life in Trinidad. One forgets for a few chapters what Carla's goal in writing really is. For a moment, you are invited into this seeming paradise. And that is precisely when Carla hits you with the violence she will experience throughout the book; throughout her life. She hits you with the same ferocity as her mother used in her beatings. Just as suddenly as Carla was thrown into a life of abuse at the hands of her mother and her mother's boyfriends, Carla throws you into the thick of it, to experience the beatings along with her child self.
Later, Carla guides you though her experiences at the hands of three of her mother's suitors and then at the hands of men she invited into her own adult life. Carla writes of the debilitating effects of child molestation along with the perhaps even more damaging experience of not being believed and subsequently punished for accusing her rapists.
The sheer amount of voilence Carla has experienced in her life is stagering. The amazing woman Carla has become is awe-inspiring. To be able to rise up from a life in which you are taught you are literally nothing but a whipping post and a recepticle for the weakest man's desire for dominance and become a partner in a successful business as well as an author and voice for the abused is nothing but a miracle of the human soul.

I enjoyed this book! I found it informative giving a glimpse into life and businesses in the early 1900's. Mr. Andrews does a good job of keeping the reader interested through the whole book. He presents the story factually allowing the reader to form his/her opinions about the origin of today's Mickey Mouse. This is a must read for Disney enthusiasts.

An original story creatively written by Diane C. Zuber and deftly illustrated by Mary Meehan Firtl, "The Broken Doll" is a Christmas story for young children ages 4 to 9. It is the story of a family's love for each other having more importance than the presence of expensive toys under a Christmas tree. Young Audra begs for every toy she sees but due to her father's recent lay-off from work, the family doesn't have the money to buy toys this Christmas season. Over the weeks leading up to Christmas morning Audra is a little girl who learns several valuable lessons all culminating in having the best Christmas ever for her family and herself. The M1 Abrams was the most radical departure in US tank design since World War II. Until the advent of the M1 in the early 1980s, the US Army had relied on the steady evolution of the M26 Pershing tank, through the M46, M47, M48 and M60. The M1 design came at a time when there were a host of important new tank technologies coming to fruition, in terms of structure and weaponry: these were integrated into it. This book details the design, development and operational use of one of the world's best main battle tanks.

One of Zaloga's Finest Works.......2004-02-03
This book, having been written in the early 1990s, concentrates on the M1A1 Abrams tank that was used in the Gulf War of 1991. However, Zaloga does not skimp on the Abrams' developmental history, starting off with the M26 Pershing-derived Patton and M60 series and the failed MBT-70 and XM803 tanks of the late Vietnam era. He also describes the competition between the Chrysler and General Motors prototypes and the German Leopard II entry, and how a modified Chrysler model with the novel turbine engine won out. Also described in some detail is the composition of the Burlington/Chobham armor, including millimeter-equivalent of protection on the front of both the original M1 and the later M1A1 tanks. The main guns and their ammunition are covered in detail, including muzzle velocity and penetration figures for various rounds. Rounding out the development with a discussion of fire control system and staged upgrades, Zaloga moves on to the operational history during the Gulf War.
Considering the age of the original text, it is impressive that Zaloga covers upgrades that have only recently been implemented such as the M1A1-D and M1A2 digitized tanks. Naturally, more recent developments such as AIM and M1A2SEP are missing, as these are just now entering service. In the last pages, he includes several line drawings showing profiles of the four major variants of the Abrams tank, facilitating easy comparison. He also mentions the armored recovery vehicle which was not procured, and the bridgelayer which is just now entering service as the M104 Wolverine after nearly being cancelled outright.
The Operational History includes a list of all tank battalions using Abrams tanks in the Gulf War, and a multi-page summary of the war including an enlightening quote from a company commander describing their routines while travelling in the desert.
While the color plates by Peter Sarson, including the requisite cutaway view "centerfold", are well detailed renditions of both Army and Marine M1A1 tanks used in the Gulf War, earlier models and the Forest Green and NATO tri-color schemes are lacking as these have been included in an earlier book. More importantly, Zaloga includes the FS numbers for the color schemes and even describes the chemical-resistant composition of the paint used.
This little book is packed with a considerable amount of information on the M1 Abrams tank series. Nearly every model and modification to date is covered, which is amazing considering that the original text was published in 1993. Again, while the focus was on the operational use of the M1A1 in the Gulf War, nothing was missed on the development and initial fielding of the original M1. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is a list of units that upgraded to the various models of the Abrams, and when they got them, but that's my personal wish list. Hobbyists, historians, and fans of the Abrams tank alike will find a plethora of facts and photos to delight them.

Although some of the facets of Betty Andreasson's abduction experience fit neatly into the common aspects of the phenomenon as it has been described in more recent studies, there still remain several enigmatic, uncommon aspects to her tale that set it apart. At the time of publication (1979) Budd Hopkins and Whitely Strieber had yet to publish their groundbreaking books, and the abduction experience was little known and even less accepted by society as a whole. The Andreasson Affair basically links the earlier account of Betty and Barney Hill with the numerous abduction stories introduced to the public in the years since 1979. The story of an apparent implant removed from Betty's sinuses in her experience seems pretty mundane to us now, but this was an exciting discovery for Fowler and his associates in the late 1970s. It is a little difficult to review this book as an entity in itself because of the series of related books Fowler would publish later, but I want to review the book on its own terms.
Basically, the whole book centers around a single abduction event. On a winter's night in 1967, a number of small, grey, large-headed beings entered the Andreasson home through the solid kitchen door, put all of the family members besides Betty and her oldest daughter Becky in suspended animation, and took Betty alone into their ship. Becky observed some of the events but was eventually "frozen" by the visitors during the ordeal. Betty describes the visitors--how they seemed to glide when they moved, how they seemed to communicate telepathically, etc.-- as well as the ship as it appeared from both outside and within. She then relates the extraordinary experiences she had on board the ship, illustrating much of what she saw and described in a series of excellent drawings she did based on her hypnotically retrieved memories.. Besides getting a physical examination (including the apparent retrieval of an implant and a reproduction-based test), she describes many unique events. She was put into a chair, covered with a human-shaped molding, and given oxygen to breathe while her chamber was filled with some type of liquid. She describes traveling through tunnels into strange vistas. After traveling through a red atmosphere and then a green atmosphere, she experienced an unparalleled event, wherein a phoenix-like giant bird literally burned itself up only to reappear as a giant worm from the ashes, at which point a presence told her that she had been chosen. This presence she finally understood to be God, and all of her fear turned to elation. Betty is a deeply religious person, and her Christianity adds a distinct quality to her experiences--she interprets the events in religious terms, and it is problematic to determine if her subconscious is skewing her experience or if she is interpreting it correctly. The concept of religion tied so closely to an abduction experience makes some people very uncomfortable and makes the Andreasson Affair of great interest and importance in the field of alien abduction studies. This book leaves many questions unanswered, as well, and it certainly provides no definitive answers about the subject at hand. Whatever the merits of the case, though, it is one of the most thoroughly researched cases in the literature, and Raymond Fowler is a long-time, well-respected member of the UFO research community. Anyone interested in the alien abduction phenomenon has to look at this case, and the best way of doing so is in reading this incredible book.

How Objective Can a Fellow 'Abductee' Be?.......2000-11-04
My first attempt at reading this resulted in my putting it down after the "Phoenix" vision; my BS indicator went on full-tilt overload. Later the revelation that Betty Andreasson-Luca's "star language" was actually a phonetic variant of Gaelic (the now dead language of the Celts) caused more suspiscion, and finally the revelation that author Raymond Fowler believes himself to also be an abductee, along with Betty's second husband, Bob Luca, killed whatever shreads of remaining credibility Fowler had in regard to the impartiality that his investigation had.
Other contactees exhibit a strange ability to pull others into their experiences; Betty Hill and Whitley Streiber come to mind. The conclusion that nearly everyone is involved in some facet of the abduction experience is often reached by many UFO investigators, Fowler is not alone.
Fowler writes well and may well be sincere (compare this book with his later work 'The Watchers'). His documentation and impartiality, are, I'm afraid, suspect.
Objective Investigation.......2000-10-11
I read this book when it was initially published in 1978.The Investigator, Ray Fowler, was a nuts & bolts scientist at the outset. However strange the saga became he was courageous to publish all of the details. I think it addded to what we have learned in the present time by creating a path leading to it. Betty was one of the first to tell of Beings in Robes who seemed to be Space men, but as the tale progressed, another aspect was interwoven. The Beings who spoke through Betty, presented us with a riddle to solve. They gave information that seemed to be religious in nature, but is the ultimate in Spiritual teaching. I found that the message resonated within me. As the tale progressed it shares similarities with many of the present Authors books on the UFO-Spirit connection. Fantastic reading at any time.
