Pocket-sized mini-reference of the major guitar manufacturers. Also includes some amps.
I was a little disappointed in this book. It has lots of color pictures of the most popular guitars (several of the same model in some instances) and price ranges. There is also a potted history of each manufacturer. However, there is little or no detail or description of each model.
Easy reading, and good for somebody just discovering guitars who wants a cheap and quick visual reference to the most popular models.

unlike field guides to, say, western reptiles or birds, this book contains almost no information on the guitars in the guide. basically it is a picture book of a few examples of a few models, with very little descriptive information or text to inform us of year by year changes or other forms of "speciation". it's not really much of a filed guide, it won't help you in the field. it's a pocket book of pretty pictures.

Some nice pictures of some nice guitars but not very helpful in identification, significance, or value of vintage guitars. I will donate this book to the local library.
A Cool Little Book.......2005-12-01
Veteran guitar collector and store owner Dave Rogers serves as the guitar consultant on this book. Since I've been to his store, Dave's Guitar Shop, in La Cross, Wisconsin -- a great guitar shop you should check out if you're in the Midwest -- and bought a guitar there, I thought I'd pick up this field guide when I saw it. I'm glad I did. The book rocks. It's simply a fun little book packed with cool guitars and amps. You'll find all the major players -- Telecasters and Strats, Les Paul, Chet Atkins Gretsch models, Rickenbacker, Epiphone and the like -- but the book also features a Gretsch Penguin, Gibson Flying Vs and a slew of funky Danelectros, Kays, Moserites, and others. There's also a nice selection of Eric Clapton guitars that set all sorts of records at auction. Add another 50 pages or so of amps and you have a super package. The color pictures -- there's more than 400 -- are clean and sharp. Does the book have everything? No, but it covers a lot. The vintage guitar market is hot, so guitar prices are volatile. You might argue with some of the pricing but all and all, this is a cool little book. A great stocking stuffer for Christmas.

This book is a very helpful resource to those who are going to take their State Board Exam. I passed my first time and I studied like crazy from this book. It goes along with the text book very well, so if you have both the text book and this review book, you'll have what all the Schools in California are studying from.

I found this book to be a great help. I used it as a study guide with the text book and had no trouble with the test. I do agree with the reviewer above as to say there is a lot of medical terminology on the test and I had known that going in. This book helped me in a lot of other areas.
this book sucks.......2003-10-29
i recently purchased the standard text book and state review exam in preparation for the california state board esthetician exam. i read the entire text book and whizzed through the review book. these materials are very basic and dated. the exam here in california is very medical and i was overwhelmed with the test's terminolgy and structure. needless to say i failed and now i have regrets that i even purchased these middle school texts. i suggest if you're preparing for your state boards don't buy this crap and look for something more challenging and more informative. i suggest texts that specify in medical esthetics because this crap will barely get you out of esthetician school

Compared to Milady's newest edition ..........2007-01-12
this book is MUCH better. The new edition deleted a LOT of the info from this edition ... guess what? The state board test still asks questions from this book! The new book has color pictures and notes in the margin. BIG DEAL! This edition of this book has helped me pass most of my tests in class. Without it, I would have done much worse. I keep it as reference. Milady, what were you THINKING when you brought out the new edition???? Put the info back into the new edition!!!!
Inaccurate and missleading.......2003-05-03
Working through this book on a skin care course was very frustrating. The medical terms used were inaccurate and often contradictory.
Althought the basic skin care isues were dealt with efficiently the anatomy and physiology references were not consistent with current medical text books.
This publisher has many better books. Avoid this one.

This book is very thorough, up-to-date, and informative. I found it easy to read and follow, and the contents pages are very well-labeled, making it easy to find the desired information quickly. I would highly recommend this text to anyone looking to learn new skills or brush up on old skills.

This textbook is practically the only standard textbook that can be utilized by students preparing to become estheticians. However, the book needs to be brought up to current standards. Do not just print a new edition without updating the information, this stifles the profession!

Covering contemporary Third World as well as Western families, this excellent teaching text addresses topics essential for developing a multicultural perspective.
The book begins with background information on family theories and comparative research methodology, along with an overview of the history of the family and gender relations in the Western world. This is followed by chapters on family variation, which explain research on the origin, functions, and universality of the family; kinship terminology and how kinship affiliation affects such issues as postmarital residence patterns; and the diversity of marital structure (plurality of husbands and/or wives) and how culture and economy affect these patterns.
The book then examines the life cycle of the family and highlights similarities and differences across time and culture in the areas of mate selection, wedding practices, marital adjustment, childhood socialization, divorce, and care for the elderly. Important contemporary issues seldom covered in earlier works--including gender, class structure, racial discrimination, and poverty--are covered in detail.
An ideal text for comparative family courses, this readable and up-to-date volume includes exercises (as well as exercise guidelines for instructors) developed to challenge students' existing viewpoints and offer new ways of looking at the world's families. From the author: The principle of normalization/social role valorization provides a powerful framework for improving the quality of life of individuals with disabilities. However, the principle needs to be adapted to the increasing cultural heterogeneity of the United States. Decisions about the goals of service provision should be informed by two principles: (1) cultural reciprocity, whereby professionals work in a collaborative manner with families, and (2) a sociocultural view of learning and development, which targets social rather than individual processes. Findings from a collaborative action research project with culturally diverse families are used to illustrate how professionals can provide assistance in a family's zone of proximal development, rather than targeting goals that are normative for the mainstream, but not for the family.
