The new referrence guide to the works of The Tiffany Studios.......2007-05-07
With the advent of Duncan's new book 'Tiffany Lamps and Metalware' we have a NEW referrence guide that will surely replace 'Tiffany At Auction', also by Duncan. This will take place for two reasons - first - the cost of 'Tiffany At Auction' has become, like the lamps themselves, out of the reach of many prospective buyers and students of the Art Nouveau movement in America. Second - the new volume offers far more pieces to see so that those just getting into the collecting or the study of 'Tiffany' will be able to have a greater number of examples - both common and rare - that the individual may not have seen prior to this publication. A wonderful effort on the part of Mr. Duncan. And, at an affordable price!
The Most Complete Reference on Tiffany Lamps.......2007-04-06
This book is a stunning follow-up to Mr. Duncan's incredible "Louis C. Tiffany, The Garden Museum Collection". As a 30 year collector and enthusiast of the works of Tiffany I can confidently state that this volume will become an essential reference guide to any collector in this field and dramatically expands upon his "Tiffany at Auction" which was published over 25 years ago and is a highly sought after collector's item. The world of Tiffany collectors owes Mr. Duncan a huge debt for bringing us a seemingly endless series of spectacular books on this subject.

--Found Treasure--.......2003-09-20
I had the wonderful good fortune to find the LAMPS OF TIFFANY at a flea market and I'm delighted to say that I now own a copy of this beautiful book.
There are almost 300 delightful photographs of the lamps made by Louis Comfort Tiffany in this book and 238 of them are in color. Each picture is accompanied by a detailed description of the lamp. There are also chapters devoted to Glass, Lamp Bases, Fixtures, Shades and information about the many other details in these lamps. LAMPS OF TIFFANY allows us to enjoy the beauty of these fantastic works of art while learning something about the components of which they were made.
Since most of us can't afford a true Tiffany lamp, I have to say that many of the gorgeous reproductions that are made today are a tribute to the artistry of Mr. Tiffany.
Brilliant reference for Tiffany lamp builders or collectors.......2000-08-21
Artistry Stained Glass in Tempe, Arizona teaches extensive classes in Tiffany lamp building. With over 40 years combined lamp building experience, we find Egon Neustadt's book to be the most sought after reference for color, layout and even lamp base matching. We have other reference books, but this one is passed around from student to student, without fail.
It took me six months just to locate this book! It's good to see it's at least available now to others. Our customers use it for a reference as well, when we are commissioned to build a Tiffany reproduction lamp.
Thanks Amazon!
This is the "The Tiffany Lamp Bible", Mr. Neustadt is Moses!.......1997-12-09
I personally used this book as a true reference while recreating Tiffany shades and bases with a well-known Tiffany Repro company in California from 1983 to 1989. I never lost my fascination for the detail and beauty of each piece catalogued in this wonderful book, as well as the invaluable references to glass, bronze and "tag" authenticity. Mr. Neustadt truly loved L.C. Tiffany's work, and the photo overlay process used in the original book gave each shade it's true color and a rich depth. My book was well-loved, and so valuable as a reference at the time that it was unfortunately stolen from me before I had to give my work up to a carpal tunnel injury. I have since wished it would reappear at a lesser price, but the book is truly worth twice it's weight in gold to any Tiffany colorist or devotee. I now satisfy myself with an occaisional "fix" at the churches of Boston and Maine which are graced with the windows I love almost as much. I am glad to know where I might indulge myself in the purchase of this book, as I had thought at one time it was quite hard to find. A truly fantastic guide to the great variety of Tiffany Stvdios shades and bases.
Neustadt - The bible of Tiffany Lamps.......1997-09-19
I have had this book for about a year. As a stained glass lamp hobbyist I find it an invaluable reference and read it often to check on detail (and to find how far I have yet to go with this hobby!). Mr Neustadt points out many of the subtleties in these lamps that are sometimes overlooked. On a related topic, many of the lamps in his possesion can be seen at the NY Historical Society, Central Park, NYC. If you like Tiffany, this book is a must
A Complete Resource.......1997-09-14
Possibly the most complete and authoritative collection of information on Tiffany's lamps, life, and studios in existence. Accurate photographs of nearly every shade in existence as well as the varieties within each design. Thorough discussion of the glass used and its properties, as well as the lampbases that support the works. I know of no other reference for the artist, collector, or lamp fanatic that is as complete.
Book Description
Presents celebrated works of Tiffany Studios in an entirely new context, focusing on the women who labored behind the scenes to create the masterpieces now inextricably linked to the Tiffany name.
Customer Reviews:
the central role of women artists and others in Tiffany creations.......2007-09-05
Looking into how the highly-valued Tiffany lamps and other fine objects came to be, the three authors disclose the critical, unique part Clara Driscoll had in this. Driscoll served as a major creative force for many Tiffany lamps by her own artistic sense and as director of a staff of other talented women. Recently found correspondence of Driscoll's--an Ohio native who lived from 1861 to 1944--verifies that she was mostly responsible for the classic Tiffany designs of the Wisteria, Dragonfly, and Peony.
The authors do not aim to devalue Louis Comfort Tiffany's (1848-1933) role and reputation in giving Driscoll her due. They seek mainly to lay out a broader, more informed understanding of the creation of the timeless Tiffany works. Parts of the book go beyond Driscoll's place in the company to see her as representative of sprightly, adventuresome, and bright young American woman coming into the American workforce and into large cities in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Besides Driscoll, there were a number of other similarly-talented and -natured women who contributed to the inimitable design and outstanding status of the Tiffany lamps and other objects. Collectively known as the "Tiffany Girls," many are pictured in available period photographs; and all known are given biographical notes.
Book Description
This is the first book devoted to Tiffany lamps in more than 20 years. Experts in the field have made a selection of exceptional lamps-many of which have rarely been seen or published-and each one has been newly photographed with the latest photographic techniques to reveal in extraordinary detail the artistic quality and high craftsmanship of these masterpieces of decorative art.
Martin Eidelberg and Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen have contributed essays on the history of the lamps, enlarging our understanding of Louis Comfort Tiffany's achievement. They have also drawn upon a host of previously unpublished photographs, paintings, and watercolors by Tiffany and other artists in his employ, as well as on working drawings and studio photographs, to evoke the lost gardens and interiors of Tiffany's country estate, Laurelton Hall, that so inspired him. They outline the development and manufacture of the Tiffany lamp from freehand sketch to the finished form, as well as the chief decorative themes in Tiffany's glass masterpieces and their relation to the work of other fin de siècle glassmakers. In this book, light, color, and the inspiration of nature co-mingle to produce a deliciously sensuous experience.

Lamps of Tiffany.......2007-01-19
I really enjoyed this book. The color full page pictures are great.
The definitive book on the subject, for glass artists or just droolers.......2006-07-07
I'd postponed writing a review of this book because I imagined that it was only fair to read the entire text before I wrote about it. I've never really gotten to concentrate on the words, though, because the photos are so, *SO* astonishingly beautiful.
This isn't simply a collection of lamp pictures, taken as though they're head-and-shoulders photos in a police lineup. Many of the lamps have multiple views, from very small (to show off how drapery glass was used, for instance), to a general detail shot, to photographs of the bases the company used to accompany the shade. The photography quality is excellent; you really see everything you need. A professional glass artist (or drooling amateur like myself) can see the details and understand why these lamps set the bar for stained glass. Even if you know NOTHING about the subject, you'll be blown away by the overwhelming prettiness of the material.
I'm not sure if this book represents every Tiffany lamp ever made, but it must come close. Additional images show related material, such as photos of Tiffany's Long Island home (wow), cartoons for lamps we've never seen, and Tiffany Studios' 1904 advertisements for its lamps. Most of the book, however, is a study of the lamps themselves, organized by topic (such as fauna or wetlands), and analyzed in some detail.
When I drag my eyes away, I can recognize that the prose is as complete as the photographs. In addition to the historical context in which the lamps were created, there's plenty of history and analysis about their manufacture. ("Another watercolor rendering in the collection in the Metropolitan Museum is for a Snowball shade [figure 93]. Here, because of the model's domical form, the designer compensated for the curvature of the surface by opening the top sections of the shade into a series of regular projections, just as a cartographer has to allow for the curvature of the globe.") Some of it is a bit dry and academic, at least for those of us who are here primarily to say, "ooh, how pretty!" but if you cared about the details, you would definitely appreciate its depth. In other words: there's plenty to look at, and there's plenty to read, depending on what you're looking for.
You can find a few other collections of Tiffany's works, but I can't imagine you'll find a better one.
Great New Tiffany Lamp Book.......2006-05-12
It is about time that another great book joins the volumes published in the 70's and 80's. There is some new information here as well as photos of lamps that have not been seen for years. This book is well worth the money for any fan of these incredible lamps.
Lovely Book.......2006-03-22
I saw this book in a museum bookstore and immediately came home and purchased it on Amazon. I'm a stained glass student and looking at this book really inspired me. The photographs are stunning and the book is packed full of great information about Louis Comfort Tiffany and his studio. Included are his drawings for a few windows, information about the methods used to make them, and there's even info on the process used to create the glass. Very informative and a joy to look at.

An outstanding reference.......2006-12-10
Eight color photos do more than display Tiffany lamps, as other titles do: they have been polled from thousands of lamps with hundreds of designs to show the differences in shade patterns and complexity. A lovely display of colors and patterns is accompanied by clear description and artistic and collector value insights. "Tiffany By Design" is an outstanding reference and a welcome addition to personal, professional, academic, and community library Antiques & Collectibles reference collections.

Book Description
A fence is more than just a barrier. Used in imaginative ways, it can become an architectural feature that blends well with the style of your house, a landscape element that enhances the appearance of your property, or an accent piece that helps define a part of your yard or garden.
In The Fence Bible hands-on home improvement expert Jeff Beneke provides an in-depth, comprehensive how-to encyclopedia that enables homeowners to choose and build the fences and gates that are best for their landscape--both for appearance and function.
Beneke suggests the appropriate types of fence to keep the swimming pool secure, con fine the livestock, keep deer away from the garden, or create outdoor living spaces. He then discusses the essentials of proper fence design and provides step-by-step illustrated instructions for planning, building, maintaining, and repairing any style of fence.
Beneke covers every kind of fencing: wood, masonry, and metal, as well as shrubs, hedges, and trees.
Whether you have a tiny urban backyard, a sprawling suburban plot, or a small spread in the country, this book is sure to help you find the perfect fence.

Pretty Pictures.......2007-01-17
This book has lots and lots of pretty pictures of fences that are not explained or detailed. There is decent information about rock walls, but otherwise this book really lacks in the substance needed to build fences.
Excellent purchase - highly recomended.......2007-01-16
The author (Jeff Beneke) has a nice way of explaining options in a approachable and casual manner making the project of designing/building a fence and/or gate much more fun. This book is very complete in it's review of latches, hinges, fence options for consideration along with beatiful photography and sketchs to illustrate ideas or concepts.
Even the guys at our local fence supply company where we bought our materials were impressed with this book when I used it to reference a particular piece of hardware.
Review from someone who's not known as a handyman.......2006-07-05
I bought this book to build a 6' privacy fence. I didn't know the first thing about building a fence but this book takes you by the hand and walks you through each step. The author does a great job of keeping things simple for the reader/beginner and includes illustrations and photos to help you envision the process. I keep referring back to sections of this book as I continure to build. Highly reccomend this book to all beginners.
Fences: In thought, word, and deed........2005-09-21
"The Fence Bible: ..." by Jeff Beneke is an excellent, comprehensive guide. The title says it all, and the author delivers. Whether you want to build your own fence, or contract the project out this book can help you get it done right.
Fully lives up to its name.......2005-04-06
Jeff Beneke is an expert woodworker, house renovator, gardener, and author of more than a dozen highly commended home-improvement books designed specifically for the non-specialist general reader wanting to renovate, remodel, or otherwise improve their home and property values. The Fence Bible: How To Plan, Install, And Build Fences And Gates To Meet Every Home Style And Property Need, No Matter What Size Your Yard is Beneke's latest (and in many ways) his best "how to" title to date. This 272 page instruction manual is superbly illustrated with full color photographs and exemplary illustrations from cover to cover. If you want any kind of fencing on any kind of property, then The Fence Bible is the complete reference on how to build one whether you choose wood, stone, brick, concrete, mesh, wrought iron, living hedges, or anything else. Simply Beautiful.......2005-05-13
This book was really fun to browse through and look at all the different styles. I'm sure I saw some of the fences in the book when on vacation in colonial Williamsburg. In the end, we decided on a pretty simple picket style and used some of the techniques suggested in the book to add interest by using varying heights and accents on the gate posts and gate itself. It turned out beautifully and the book was a big help in finding the style.
Wish I would have found this book first.......2005-03-23
This book is great! I've never seen a book with so many styles of fences that would go with so many different types of architecture. I also like how the material and illustrations are presented to allow the reader to easily see and compare the many different styles. The first fence books I bought had a few nice photos with trees and flowers, but, the fences themselves were not that special.
I think it is much easier to see the fences for their own style and appearance the way they are presented in this book. If you are looking for an abundance of design ideas, this book has no equal.
If you don't have a Victorian, forget this book.......2004-06-26
It's a very nicely drawn & explained book but if you have any other style home other than Victorian, there are limited styles that would match. Also, you have to order patterns separately.
Very Useful.......2001-09-25
I own a Victorian Cottage in Texas and purchased this book hoping for some ideas on building my own unique picket fence. The book has tons of pictures and drawings of fence designs. We actually used two different designs and came up with a "one of a kind" fence around our yard. It became the talk of the town for a while and now our house is known as "the one with the fence"!
The book is a little short on details of building the fences, but if you are skilled with tools, you will figure it out. We are starting our second fence with it this month, which we hope is a masterpiece. I recommend this book if you need Victorian fence ideas.
A good reference of designs for late 19th century fences.......1999-06-27
We bought this book because we were looking for ideas for a fence. This would be an excellent reference for someone with a Victorian style home. The book also has some simpler fence designs, but most are quite ornate.
Book Description
Written in 1900, this is a practical classic of American ingenuity.

This Book can Build a Relationship.......2000-03-25
We do a lot of family stuff. We read together, hike, vacation; we even eat our meals together. But being a close emotional foursome [mom, dad, son age 12 and daughter age 10] we are always looking for a new way to share our time.
Pick up this book and pick a project. We started with a new gate to the pool but decided it was too easy. What is great about this book is that it not only gives great construction guidelines it is a building block (no pun intended) to other projects.
We finally decided to build a bridge across Ash Brook which passes through our property about 100 yards behind the house. At first we thought we could span 30 feet, but later decided 15 was a better idea. Well, the bridge in the book and our final product did not resemble each other. Who cares. The basics were supplied and we went our own way.
Great ideas and pictures. Use it as a guide or a technical manual. It doesn't matter. Everything works.

For the beginner or the experienced woodworker, Building Fences and Gates covers just about everything one needs to know. The book starts with some interesting history on fences, then lays out how to plan the right fence for your property and needs, choose the appropriate materials and finishes, plot and diagram the curves and slopes of your land, set and align posts, build interesting and functional gates, choose proper hardware, hang gates, and make permanent repairs. In hundreds of color photographs, a huge variety of fence styles and fence-building materials are discussed, along with the tools needed, safety tips, and instructions on how to do things right the first time and avoid sagging gates and buckling, falling-down fences. Whether your tastes run toward a Victorian picket fence, a wattle fence, a woven lattice fence, a post and board fence, or a rustic split-rail fence, you will find the plans and instructions you'll need to construct any fence you fancy! --Mark A. Some examples of color therapy go from cheering a blue day, to the increase of the immunological system. This is an excellent book to learn how to help heal yourself with colors.
