Not quite as bad as all that.......2007-08-06
The previous reviewer says "this book also didn't give the dates of when the lights were originally made so you can't use it to date a light of your own if you want to." This is not accurate. While Volume I did not include dates for the various catalogs reprinted and priced, it did state that the fixtures are from the 1920's. Volume II, however, covers the 1930's and includes the date of publication for each catalog.
My problem with the series is that the books are only a collection of old catalogs with guesses as to the prices of the items. No real life values are shown, auction or flea market. It is an interesting collection, but almost useless as a price guide.

"Living in Norway" is a pictorial tour throughout Norway of days gone by in quiet solitude between the grand fjords with the majestic mountains on all sides. The book is divided into the four seasons: fall, winter, spring and summer. You can experience the beauty of Norway through all seasons. Winter time in Norway is long, and the daylight hours few, but the homes are gaily decorated throughout the dark winter days. When it comes to antiques, here you can see them in their natural surroundings. This book offers hundreds of color photographs, but don't forget to read the text, it is a fantastic tour of Norway. The "hytta" or cabins the norwegians used in the summer days are featured, many of the old hytta still exist and open their doors to guests as do American bed and breakfasts. Some of the hytta remain with the original families, others have been purchased for private use or for overnight stays. Traditional rosmalling on the walls and the "box beds" will guide you through times gone by. An intimate tour through the summer home of Edvard Grieg and his wife will delight you and amaze you to discover that this is also the final resting place of the Greig's. But more awaits. Some neat country homes..........2001-07-10
This has some good photographs of Scandinavian homes; particularly country homes in Norway and Finland. The styling of the homes is rather rustic so don't expect to see lots of examples of Danish and Finnish design from the 60's. I found the photography to be a little 'claustrophobic' and not really giving a good view of the whole room; too much focus on details.
The book is not bound very well and mine has started to separate from the cover after only a few readings. I'd only buy this if you are really interested in Scandinavian living.

I love Scandinavian architecture, both traditional and modern. This book has well done photographs of some of the most simply eloquent modern Scandinavian homes. It makes you want to live in one of these most appealing dwellings. Every so often I look through the book once more and enjoy the beautifully photographed exteriors and interiors of the homes all over again.

The first time I went to Scandinavia, I arrived in Helsinki late in the evening. I went to my hotel, and in the first few minutes I understood what was so special about Scandinavian design. The otherwise ordinary hotel room stood out as one of the best I have ever seen. It was not a tremendously expensive hotel, rather middle of the road. But simple things: the door, the faucets in the bathroom, the furniture, all were so much more elegant looking than what we find in the United States.
Now I'm in the process of designing a house. I went looking for a book on interior design that would reflect what I had seen there. I found several, but this one shows more elements of design that reflect what I like. Simple things, like an office table. Easy enough to find, once I knew what I was looking for. A bed: simple, elegant, and better looking than anything I've seen in other publications.
If you're looking for something for yourself or if you're doing a Scandinavian home for a customer I highly recommend this book.

In her book, No Greater Love, Loren captures motherhood in words as Anne Geddes captures babies through a camera lens. She has the phenomenal ability to ask simple questions that allow moms, new or seasoned, to notice how they appear in the eyes of their child and to savour all the magic moments, large and small. I get so excited when I hear someone I know is expecting. I already know what a treat it will be when they receive this book as a gift.
