Of all the books on cut glass this is about the worst. The only good thing about it is the pieces are ordered by style (bowl, goblet, plate, etc.). The line drawings are only mediocre. There are very, very few pieces and manufacturers in it (a couple hundred).
Save your money, look elsewhere.

This book is great. I only wish the pictures were real pictures and not just drawings. I know it would be hard to find and publish all the the patterns, but in her next book, maybe she could print actual pictures of what she can find. I'd pay more for a bigger book.

Have just received this beautiful book and it appears to be a winner. My husband even picked it up and looked through with great admiration for the artistry. Topics cover beginning to end of a project, some sections being: materials & equipment, design, colour, distance and detail, starting to stitch, grouping by technique, how to present your finished embroidery. Definitely encouraging and inspirational. I think this is one that will be sold out!

I think the techniques and descriptions are good. The author is truly knowledgeable about the subject. Beautiful work. I found the flat color of the pictures somewhat distracting. If you are getting the book to read about the techniques, then it is good. I would love to see the same book updated and bolder color. I don't think the pictures do the work justice.

I have been interested in embroidery since I was quite young but it has always struck me as a little ho hum everything is the same, cross stitch bored me to tears. I kept looking at my garden & flowers & wanted to capture them but didnt know how then I found Embroidered Garden Flowers, & there was my answer! I have found my niche I can create beautiful work with Diana's help. I have such fun designing my own garden with Diana's flowers,I hope there is more to come! What about a Queensland Tropical garden or a West Australian wild flower garden or an Australian native garden the ideas are there but I can't get them out of my head..I need your talent & expertise Diana so please dont stop!! The author has developed or refined unique techniques for introducing depth and texture in contemporary embroidery. The book whets one's appetite with the use of real rose petals and goes on to illustriate shadow work, beading, textured stitches, applique (including burnt edge), fabric printing, cross stitch, canvas work, machine embroidery and more, if you can believe it. It is by no means a tutorial, aiming instead to shift our minds from the usual to the outstanding.

If only it were this simple...every child would be a A student! First of all, if your child does not want to do the homework, they are going to conveniently "forget" about assignments. As far as communicating with the teachers about assignments, that will last a few days, then the annoyed teacher gives a lecture about "teaching your child to be responsible" (in other words, I don't have time to make sure your kid writes down the assignment every day for the whole year). The punishment/reward system does not work for a child who looks at homework as the punishment. This book contains the simplistic advice you would find in any woman's magazine. It will not work, especially with older children.

I have "Don't Be Afraid to Discipline". I am a teacher and I recommend it to all of my parents. They buy it, read it, and thank me for recommending something that helps to shed some light on what they do or not do and how to do things better.Kids need limits and parents need someone to remind them of all that good parenting of years ago. One last thought, I have attended some of her seminars personally. Made me a better teacher!!

Here's the plan: 1. know what your children's homework is (communicate with their teachers) 2. stay on top of whether they're doing it 3. use a system of "consequences" (reward/punishment) to reinforce their study behaviors.
