Encyclopedia of Antiques tools & Machinery.......2007-01-11
Not quite what I needed. I do not get much usefull information from it.
Very good reference. Comprehensive and helpfull classic!!.......2006-09-10
This is a well illustrated and clearly written work of reference. My husband learned a lot of historical and technological facts from reading it. This is a very valuable book for the beginner to the mid-level American tool collector.
Avoid this book.......2003-12-05
This book of tools and tool values contains many misnamed, mislabed, or inaccurately named tools. Save your money and buy the latest edition of Keane's book of antique tool values, the most accurate one for tool prices, or Barlow's most recent edition of Antique Tool Collectors Guide to Value,
which will give lots of pictures and general tool info without misleading you. Wendel's book has too many tools
named wrong and prices that are way out of touch with reality. Condition is very important, and Herb Keane, in his
A Price Guide to Antique Tools, does a good job in discussing condition and its effect on prices.
Once you read some basic tool value books, you will want to advance to specialized books centering on brands, locale of manufacture, or type of tool. These will seldom be price guides, but will be filled with important details that can make a big difference in the price paid for a tool.
good overview of antique tools.......2002-12-31
This book provides a good overview of many tools (including a lot from obsolete trades). Some prices are provided. A good book for a beginner looking for background on the many tools out there.

Superman can beat Batman up anytime he wants.......2006-06-09
But the thing that makes the olden-days Batman cool is that he and Superman were pals and so Superman wouldn't want to beat Batman up unless Batman turned evil, which could never happen even under hypnosis. The modern-day Batman is just evil, so Superman would be justified in beating him up.
Best book ever.......2002-12-11
It's been a while since I read this book but I was at my uncles spending the night my uncle took my brother the previous day to the library so when I came of course I read it this book features a ton of stories so if you like Batman I reccomend this book.

Great Fun.......2005-08-05
There isn't a whole lot to be said for this archive other than it's a blast. Volume 3 contains the Batman stories from "Detective Comics" #71-86, slightly over a year's worth of stories. Bob Kane and company definitely were hitting their stride here, with many a creative plotline and some very nice art. A couple of minor villains who have managed to keep their place in the rogues gallery, including the Cavalier and Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee make their initial bows in this volume (although the Cavalier hasn't been around since the 1980s).
There are a quite few Joker stories. Even then, DC knew how important this character was in the Batman mythos. Great art from Kane, Dick Sprang and Jerry Robinson, among others. While they're all good, "The Joker's Double" is the best written and illustrated. It makes an interesting turn of events to have the Joker aid the side of justice to flush out an impersonator.
"The Scarecrow Returns" seems timely, given that villain's pivotal role in the new movie. Also of note was the early attempt to rehabilitate a Batman villain in "The End of Two-Face!" as poor Harvey (still called) Kent (not Dent) is actually cured (which we all know didn't stick).
Suprisingly, even though Superman and Wonder Woman were slapping around Axis types left and right, Batman remained fairly apolitical, as only one, very preachy story, "The Bond Wagon" wherein Batman and Robin put together a group of Revolutionary re-enactors. Fun, but predictable, and almost out of place.
Like all golden age comics, plot heavy, and character lite. But great fun, nonetheless.

Reading previous reviews, there seems to be some confusion on the Batman Archive series--- this review refers to, once again, BATMAN ARCHIVES: VOLUME 3.
the prior review refers to the batman archives volume 4.......2000-07-21
No offense to the prior reviewer, but his/her review is wholly inaccurate. because of his/her advice I bought this one, which is not the reprints of the batman's first appearances in detective comics 27-52(volume 1(I later learned)) but really volume4(87-102). -name above

If only I had the money . . ........2003-10-10
I attended college in the Bay Area in the early `60s and have been nostalgically in love with San Francisco and Marin ever since. I spent many, many hours hiking around the city with a couple of friends, climbing the hills, exploring narrow passages between buildings, and generally gawking at the 19th century architecture. I also knew a girl whose grandmother (or aunt, or something) lived in one of the "Painted Ladies" on Alamo Square, the strip now known as "Postcard Row," so I actually got to see the inside of one of the gorgeous homes detailed and depicted in this book. If you're not from there, you likely lump together all of San Francisco's historic domestic architecture as "Victorian" -- but you would be wrong. There's Gothic Revival, Italianate, Second Empire, Stick Style, Shingle Style, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival, plus various hybrids among and later additions to all of those. Duchscherer is a longtime resident of the city and a highly regarded architectural historian and he leads the reader through the art and business behind these homes, while Keister's lush photography of busy (and occasionally overdone) Victorian interiors will have you drooling on the page. One of my personal favorites is the Westerfeld House in the Western Addition, built in 1889, which includes a fifth floor (!) tower room with an amazing view. Another is Falkirk (originally the Robert Dollar Mansion), built in San Rafael in 1888, a much more rambling Tudor extravaganza filled with a king's ransom in paneling and wainscotting; it was saved from demolition and entirely renovated (thank God) after I left the area, and I shall have to go and visit it the next time I get out there. What a book!
From architectural roots to hybrid styles.......2001-12-14
This survey of Victorian beauties of California's San Francisco Bay Area provides a blend of regional history and architectural insights, surveying the changing Victorian house styles of the region and featuring a wealth of fine color examples. From architectural roots to hybrid styles, Book Of The Courtesans is packed with detail.

Mars and Venus in the Bedroom.......2007-09-22
Mars and Venus in the Bedroom: A Guide to Lasting Romance and Passion I purchased this audio to hear what Dr. Gray's take was on the subject of intimacy between a man and a woman. I was surprised to know that this man was previously "a man of the cloth" with an accent on "a man". I was very impress with his expertise on how to tap into each others emotions and bodies to fulfill the God given gift of sexuality. I must say that the material was sexually explicit and therefore was packaged as such. Dr. Gray spoke with much candor and experience in his field of counseling of men and women and have given me a insight on those relationships relating in marriages. I will be entering into marriage soon and will be taking this information to help me to make my marriage work.
Enhance your passion for your loved one - The Real Way.......2007-05-15
John Gray uses real, time-tested methods to greatly enhance sex for couples. By detailing the different needs of men and women during sex, you learn to break your selfish tendencies and do the right thing - focus on giving pleasure to your spouse. This will ultimately enhance your sex experience, and this will follow through to all facets of your relationship, both in and out of the bedroom. His ideas are not at all unpleasant or distasteful. His concepts ring true. This should be required reading for all couples prior to marriage.
Awesome Book.......2007-02-24
I read this book previously when I got it from the library. I couldn't believe how right the book is. It gives a lot of insight to the understanding of the female and male sexuality, and helps one to understand it all. I highly recommend this book, if you are looking to understand how the female and male body works.
READ IT WITH YOUR WIFE!.......2006-12-26

Women's orgasms aren't important.......2006-10-04
I have been reading this book out loud to my BF, who now worships Dr. Gray as it should be titled, "Why women should give men sex all the time".
Dr. Gray actually lists why we should give our man a quickie when we really don't want to, don't have time or are tired. He even says we should give a hand job when we have a bad headache!!! Men, if your woman has a headache, run her a warm bubble bath, light some candles, give her a massage and you'll increase your chances of getting some!
He also states that at certain times of the month many women don't feel the need to have an orgasm. I know LOTS of women and none of them will tell you orgasms are not important! Yes, sometime I will give my man a quickie and not worry about my orgasm, but that is totally up to me, NOT DR. GRAY.
He also states it's ok to look at other women in front of us as long as our men tell us they love us. Gee, not enough beautiful women on TV, billboards and magazines to look at when we're not around? I don't drool over other men when my man is around because I RESPECT him. If more couples respected each other they would have less trouble.
He has some good tips like men need to spend more time on foreplay, complimenting your woman, but I am on page 88 out of 206 and it has been overwhelmingly biased toward giving men what they want all the time and apparently at all costs.

Customer Reviews:
the most redundant book I have ever read.......2007-02-24
This book makes presents several valuable points:
--Men believe in the adage that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
A woman, on the other hand, might say that "if it ain't broke, upgrade it."
Consequently, when a woman offers advice or criticism to a man, the man could misunderstand that she considers him inadequate.
--Men like to be considered competent, whereas women like to be cherished.
This difference could result in an misunderstanding.
When a woman asks questions such as "Do you have enough cash?" or "Did you remember your umbrella?" she is treating others as she would like to be treated, but not as a man might like to be treated.
--When men share their problems, they want solutions.
When women share their problems, they want empathy.
This difference results in situations in which a woman shares her problems, the man offers solutions, and the woman becomes angry because the man "is just not listening!"
The difference could also result in a man feeling blamed for a problem whereas in fact he is not.
--A man often wants solitude when he is thinking about a problem.
A woman should be careful not to bother a man with questions at such a time.
--A woman could have mood swings for no discernible reason.
A man should respect those mood swings and not take them personally.
--When a man wants help, he asks. When a woman wants help, she doesn't.
A woman could make a mistake by offering help when a man doesn't ask.
On the other hand, a man could make a mistake by not sensing when a woman wants help.
--Women count all gifts and favors equally, regardless of size or amount.
Many small gifts and favors are better than one large, expensive gift or favor.
--If a woman asks a man for a favor and the man hesitates, she should allow a few seconds for the hesitation rather than hastily interpreting that hesitation as a refusal.
However, this is not enough information to warrant three hundred pages.
