Book Description
The Japanese sword has long been appreciated both as a weapon and as an object of art. No culture, besides the Japanese, has developed the sword to such a level of technological excellence, or raised it to such a position of spiritual importance. As a cutting weapon, the fully developed curved sword of the samurai was uniquely effective. As a cultural object, it offers invaluable insights into the social and spiritual history of the Japanese people.
Cutting Edge offers a fascinating introduction to the design, manufacture, and collecting of these Japanese weapons. It covers the development of sword designs, traditional forging methods, regional variations in style, and signature works by legendary craftsmen, and includes hundreds of photos, with 16 pages in full color.

Excellent book.......2005-08-06
In a very few words, this book is informative to both the newcomer and the more advanced collector. The historical and technical information is authoratative and concise, but the best part of the book are the incredible photos of the blades. These are the best photos I have ever seen, you can actually see the hamons and hadas which are also described in the text. It is extremely difficult to take photos like these, and in many books you can see the blade but not the individual characteristics which actually give the beauty to the blade.

Wells Quilting.......2005-11-28
Like her mother, Valerie shows her quilting and artistic prowess in this book with several inspiring quilts to whet your sewing appetite. Bountiful colors and intriguing designs. If you are in a rut of patchwork, or you are looking to expand your quilting talents, give this book a try for inspiration!
Exquisitely lovely, but lightweight.......2000-08-23
Valori Wells' lavish photography alone is worth the price of this book: her lush, colorful garden imagery will be a very comforting re-read on a dreary winter's day here in New England. The quilt patterns, however, are a serious disappointment. There are surprisingly few quilts to be found among the exquisite portraits of rippling lavender fields and dewy pansies; and of the tiny handful of patterns included in this book, there are only two which I like well enough to attempt.
Beautiful book, good inspiration........2000-02-17
Through the Garden Gate is a great looking book. I enjoyed it for the descriptions of the quilters and their inspirations, as well as to see their innovative quilt designs. It includes glossy pages of photos of both the quilts and the gardens that inspired them. The quilt designs are fresh and different. It is obvious that many of the designs tell a lot about the designers. But don't buy this book if you're looking for any quantity of quilt designs. Buy for inspiration from nature. There are only 11 patterns included from 9 quilters. Clear, concise illustrated instructions good enough for beginners.
I'm not a quilter, but I LOVE this book.......1999-08-11
My daughter bought this book for my most recent birthday and it is absolutely fabulous. I love the garden photographs and the pictures of quilts in neat settings. I may even try to make the quilt on the cover for my daughters upcoming birthday!
The beautiful quilts & flowers make this a great table book........1999-07-09
I received this as a birthday gift and it is wonderful. It offers gardening information as well as wonderful quilt patterns. The quality of this book in content and make-up are worth the money. Amazon has the best price. You won't be sorry.

Book Description
The latest medical research clearly confirms that the glycemic index (GI)—an easy-to-understand ranking of foods based on their effect on blood glucose levels—is vitally important for heart health and the prevention of the Metabolic Syndrome (aka Syndrome X and insulin resistance). Slowly digested, low-GI carbohydrates like pasta, grainy breads, and cereals based on wheat bran and oats play an important role in treating and preventing heart disease—in addition to controlling blood sugar and aiding weight loss. This handy pocket guide shows readers how to choose the right amount of the right carbohydrates for reducing the risk of heart attack and for lifelong health and well-being. Included is a 7-day, low-fat, low-GI meal plan for heart health, a healthy-heart pantry checklist, and the glycemic index values, fat, and carbohydrate content for over 300 foods and drinks.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book and diet!.......2007-03-22
I followed this diet for 3 months and as a result, lowered my triglycerides from 498 to 210! It's very easy to follow and certainly has improved my health.

Customer Reviews:
Works better than low carbs.......2003-02-15
By concentrating on the low GI foods the authors recommend, I've been able to keep my blood sugar stable between 80 and 120 all day and night. I'm full without feeling stuffed or sick, and I get to eat a wide range of low cost, perfectly normal foods. No more expensive snack bars or costly meat, meat, meat!
I tried low carbs and those plans didn't work for me. With low carbs, my blood sugar would tank before meals triggering horrible migrain symptoms. I don't get that any more and can just eat normally, without forcing myself to eat for fear of getting hungry and triggering a headache or the dreaded blue flashes. I really do feel so much better and my blood sugar testing clearly shows that my sugar is well controlled even after a high carb meal, provided I eat the carbs recommended in The Glucose Revolution.
I think you'll be suprised at how easy and satisfying these foods are. Normal foods. Normal eating schedule. Normal blood sugar levels. Gotta love it. This booklet is well, well worth the money. Don't hesitate to buy it.
