Beautiful Transistor Radio Guide To Please Every Collector.......2000-12-15
This 2nd edition 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" size, softbound 320 page guide is handy to take with you when you go antiquing for transistor radio collectibles. It has about 400 great, large, clear, full color, sharp photos, and more than 2,000 values (1996). There is a nice introduction to collectible transistor radios and a very complete list of radio clubs. The book's emphasis is on the 50's and 60's. Descriptions are very complete and the radios are listed alphabetically by manufacturer, making location and identification easy. Add it to your library and you'll refer to it often.
They Wrote the Book on Transistor Radios.......2000-04-21
One of the "must haves" if you are interested in transistor radios of the fifties and sixties. Hundreds, (thousands?) of listings with photos of some, descriptions of all, and date of manufacture for most. The book also contains estimated value ranges, and useful introductory information.

Book Description
This book gives descriptions and current values for over 9,000 models. Most other guides just list radios by model number - our guide gives complete descriptions of every radio along with information about the companies. The informative text provides explanations for the many confusing terms and abbreviations used in the radio field. Listed alphabetically by company, the radios are accompanied by current collector values. The book is devoted to the golden age of radios, the 1920s through the 1950s.2001 values. REVIEW: This book contains over 400 full-color photographs and information about the various radio companies, alphabetically listed from A-C Dayton to Zephyr. An explanation of pricing and terms and a key to descriptive information are provided. Each listing gives name, radio style, case material, year of initial market introduction, number of knobs and tubes, types of reception, and current collector value. -Robert Clayton
Customer Reviews:
Good starting place for collectors.......2007-04-24
This guide gives a good overview of old radios. I agree with other readers that there are some iconic radios that should have been pictured.
However I can understand that the content had to be limited to make the book affordable. Myself, I would pay $60 for a larger book that had 4 times the content. Some short history on the manufacturers would have been nice too. On the positive side, this book has made me more aware of the variety of radios that were made. I can now better decide what I want to buy. The prices should only be used as relative value gauge.
Begin Here for Overview of Antique Radios.......2006-07-11
This is the place to begin. Covers technical background, history, manufacturers and models. Price information is useful. Many illustrations in color. Covers battery and electric sets from 1920's
through the 1950's. Does NOT include Crystal Radios. An EXCELLENT
value. A ready reference for beginner to intermediate collector and enthusiast. Literally thousands of radios and many manufacturers covered. I could detect no gaps or ommisions. This is a catalog but well worth having on bookshelf as reference. Interesting commentary and fun to read. Well-written and informative.
Save your money - better sources of this info.......2005-06-02
Marginally useful at best. There are much better sources of radio pricing data and photographs. The values are not real-world, and arbitrarily assume that the radio is NOT WORKING! What good is that? There are no adjustments for working condition, or other cosmetic condition assessments.
Lots of listings and lots of small color photographs.......2005-03-08
I am not an avid collector of vintage radios. When I run across one I like, I will buy it because I think they are cool. This books is divided by the maker and it has a lot of listings. The color photographs are small but there are quite a bit of them. They are big enough to see what the radio looks like. This will be the only antique radio reference book I will need.
Collectors Guide to Antique Radios, 5th Edition.......2001-08-15
Without a doubt this Guide is another valuable asset to the antique radio collector, as have been all of the Sluser's previous editions. Attend a club swap meet, and you'll see fellow collectors with this author's book under their arms, on the seat of their vehicles, always "close at hand." Just a guide, never the "last word'" as some antique dealers like to think, we collectors alike have always used Sluser's books as a reference to identify those radios not often seen in our geographical area. For this use alone, it is worth the price many times over. Each new edition has many new and updated pictures/information, not found in previous editions, so it's always best to try and collect the older editions, too.
Whether you're a "sometimes" collector or "on fire" for the antique radio hobby, this book is more than a "must have," hey you've "got to have" it! Add this valuable tool to your reference library and stay on top of your hobby. Enjoy this book and happy collecting!

Really Fun Book of Vintage TV Memorabilia .......2005-03-27
I don't really collect this sort of stuff but I loved this book because it brought back my childhood buying Beverly Hillbillies viewmaster sets, Charlie's Angels puzzles, etc. Contains hundreds of color photos of all sorts of merchandise: TV Guides, dolls, comic books, lunch boxes, coloring books, records, cups, all sorts of toys, etc. The shows profiled with memorabilia are The Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, Bionic WOman, Brady Bunch, Bugaloos, Charlie's Angels, Chips, Donny and Marie, Eight is Enough, Family, Family Affair, Fantasy Island, Flipper, Flying Nun, Gidget, Gilligan's Island, Good Times, Green Acres, H. R. Pufnstuf, Happy Days, Hardy Boys, I Dream of Jeannie, Josie and the Pussycats, Julia, Krofft Supershow, Kung Fu, Land of the Lost, Laverne and Shirley, Lidsville, Life & Times of Grizzly Adams, Little House on the Prairie, Love Boat, Mod Squad, Mork and Mindy, Nanny and the Professor, New Zoo Revue, Patridge Family, Patty Duke Show, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Six Million Dollar Man, Starsky & Hutch, That Girl, Three's Company, The Waltons, Welcome Back Kotter, Wonder Woman. There are estimated values for the items circa 1997 but I would argue few have really gone up since then due to the phenomeon of ebay where tons of this sort of stuff is now on the market and even if you don't collect it's a wonderful look back at when TV shows really merchandised to the hilt. The guys have an awesome collection!

The Magic of Handweaving
ASIN: 1883010659 |
Book Description
This book presents 50 handwoven scarves created by internationally known weavers and fabric artists. From light silk to chunky chenille, from subtle white-on-white jacquard to bold magenta and goldenrod plaid, from four-inch-wide neck wraps to three-foot-wide body wraps, there is a scarf here to delight and encourage every handweaver. Drafts of the weave structure and design notes encourage and guide handweavers of varying skill to making their own beautiful scarves. Full-page, full-color photographs of each scarf and biographies of the contributing weavers are also included.
Customer Reviews:
Not a pattern book.......2006-07-12
As many have written already, this is definitely a book for inspiration and not a formula or pattern "how to" book. Since I had the chance to look through it before buying, I knew what I was getting into and have really enjoyed it. Some of the weaves are wonderful puzzles to try to figure out and mimic, some are just beautiful and astonishing (like those woven with sewing thread!). As a professional weaver, I have to respect the designers for retaining their designs, but a few more details to get me on the road would have been great!
Pretty but disappointing.......2005-08-08
I'm a new weaver & really looked forward to getting this book. The scarves are beautiful & the book inspirational, but did I mention I'm a new weaver? It's hard to turn that inspiration into a textile treat without some direction or instruction. The editor states they published the information each scarf designer was comfortable in sharing; a few were very generous, but most shared only the very basic information. All in all, this book was a disappointment and not what I've come to expect from Interweave Press.
Handwoven Scarves - For the Experienced Weaver?.......2000-01-24
Handwoven Scarves is, indeed, a book of ideas and inspiration. But, it is not a compilation of the "best scarves ever published in Handwoven." It is not a "how to weave a scarf" book. It is more in the genre of "Ideas in Weaving" by Ann Sutton and Diane Sheehan (Interweave Press, 1989, out of print.) The weavers represented here use materials, dye techniques and weaving patterns to extraordinary advantage. The book will, I hope, inspire readers to expand their weaving skills and explore the use of silk and rayon, overtwisted yarns, forgotten weave structures and the glories of plain weave.
As for me, I've just purchased a supply of rayon ribbon, the silks have been sitting on a shelf since 1995 and the loom is empty. I forsee a shawl, perhaps in boulevard weave?
Not helpful.......2000-01-17
The only reason this book gets two stars instead of one is because it was promoted honestly as a source of inspiration and did not promise detailed instructions. The publisher should have known better, however, than to purposely omit weaving details. Such a format is of little use to those of us who have no desire to spend time experimenting. Further, there are inaccuracies; I resorted to telephoning one of the contributors when I was unable to reconcile the draft with the scarf -- because the draft as presented in the book was incomplete! I wasted an afternoon because of this error.
After a loooong wait, a disappointment........2000-01-07
I have patiently been waiting for this book to be published (it was late) and when I finally received it was greatly disappointed. While the photographs are indeed lovely and the scarves are inspirational, there were few that included the drafts for the designs. Fiber statistics would have also been helpful including yardage and possible resources. I returned this book.

Book Description
A collection of 78 original essays from the most respected parenting authors of our time. These leading authorities have contributed what they consider to be their most valuable lesson (philosophy, tips, advice) for parents.
Customer Reviews:
I want to buy this book for every parent I know........2006-02-09
It is for EVERY kind of parent -- those who work outside of the home AND those who stay home to work; fathers AND mothers; single parents AND parents who share responsibilities. I've read many parenting books and I've never actually priced one to see if I could afford to buy it for all my friends. But this book is full of so much wisdom -- real gems from people who have BEEN THERE! Each article is well-written and full of heart-felt wisdom from all different kinds of parents. I read one article a day so I can reflect on it and look at how the ideas are manifested in my parenting and how I can be a better parent. Every new parent should receive a copy of this book as soon as the child arrives home!
Only read if you are a stay at home mom..........2003-04-01
This book favors the stay at home mom/parent who sacrifices their sense of self for their child and makes the working parent feel indequate. Very much not what I expected. Many of the short essays seem like they were written at the last minute with no thought to meet the deadline requirement.
Contributing Author to Parent School shares her thoughts..........2002-06-27
Any book that generates pride and courage for the important career of raising kids has my "thumbs up." As contributing author (p. 253) to this book I applaud its efforts to collect
wisdom from various childrearing experts and share it with
parents. As author of an easy read for early childhood parents, PARENTING POWER IN THE EARLY YEARS, I know that "easy" books are the hard ones to write! I hope you find Parent School that way. For parents everywhere, take advantage of the many good resources available today. As I say to my audiences, "there's no one right way to parent" so do your best with the information you have, but continue to gather information.
I DON'T AGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEWER.......2002-04-17
I am a single mom and my best friend bought this book for me. Because I am a new mom I don't know any of the authors out there. All of the books were confusing because I didn't know whose advice to take. Parent School is full of different advice by different experts so you get a taste of each of their beliefs. I've already bought Nancy Samalin's book because all of her information was in the back of Parent School. Because of Parent School I was able to pick an expert I really like and buy her book.
Parent School is a MUST-HAVE because for those of us who don't have a clue who the experts are this is the BEST PLACE TO START.
Perfect Gift.......2002-04-04
Once I saw this book, I knew I had found the perfect gift for new parents, and parents just looking for some advice. What a great idea. Finally, a resource that teaches parents the lessons that they wished they had learned in school. Leading experts in the field provide their opinions on parenting, organized in an easy to follow lesson plan. Two close friends of mine just had babies and I plan to send each one of them this book.
