Shipping problems.......2007-09-21
Very disappointed with Amazon having a secondary publisher company handle their inventory. Ordered book in August and 29 days later the book finally arrived. Called the secondary company as they no longer respond to email inquiries and was quickly told that I would have to wait a full 30 days to request a refund. They said they had no tracking info either. Poor company to deal with. Suggest Amazon review their policies and how they handle customer disputes on their behalf.
Happy with the book but not the headaches associated with this transaction. Amazon itself has always been very good.
Great Book....just needs more detail for '72 model.......2007-08-06
Nice book with diagrahms and some pics. Wish there were more details on '72 model year that I need. If rebuilding '66 - '70, this book will help your restore pretty well.

For the enthusiast.......2002-03-29
This book is not a perfect guide to restoring a GTO but it is an invaluable aid in that effort. It does not read like a how-to book, however, and if that is what you're after you might look at a number of other excellent guides along that line. But you will eventually most likely wind up getting this book anyway simply because it contains so much information. Sometimes it's hard to find, some of the illustrations were not well reproduced and some of the material infers what you want to know as opposed to outright statement.
But, and this is a biggie here, considering the myriad years, models, and variants of the GTO over its too-short lifespan a comprehensive detailing of all information for all possible equipment would require a forklift to move around. For more practical uses, this is an excellent choice although, as stated earlier, you will probably find it works best in conjunction with other material as opposed to being a single-source reference.
I have found the book very helpful on many occasions and if you have a GTO you care for you'll probably find it similarly helpful. If you have a GTO you don't care for, seek help, it's probably still okay.

I found this book to be an excellent source of information for any GTO enthusiast. It has a great combination of numerical facts and figures, little known facts and restoration information, and plenty of photos of GTO's from the common driven restored cars right up to the rarest nut and bolt restored examples. It does a good job of pointing out some of the differences in correct original restorations and driver quality restorations. I have a number of GTO books, and this one has the best balance of just about all of them, and it covers all years thoroughly. If you are doing a full restoration on a car, this book will not give you the extensive detail of the GTO Restoration Guide, but it does contain a lot of great information that you won't find in some of the other GTO books available, and it's presented in a very polished format.

First, you need to know that I owned two new GTO's. I absolutely loved them. Especially the first one, a 1966 GTO Convertible; the first year the GTO was its own car.
This book is great. It has great pictures of all of the different GTO's. Even the '73 which few people even know existed. It actually had some information I did not know!
Good history of how the legend started and how GM reacted to it both before and after the totally unexpected popularity.
This car is considered the definitive muscle can. It was new, fast and a looker to boot. It lead the way for all of the other muscle cars.
If you were (are) into cars of the late 60's and early 70's you will like this book.

One of Best GTO Books Written.......2004-03-20
This book is definitely one of the best books written on the Pontiac GTO. It combines great photography with a good chronological story on all the GTO's from 1964 to 1974. Excellent read! Caution to other buyers: the recently released paperback titled Pontiac GTO: Four Decades of Muscle by Steve Statham (published May 2003) has exactly the same content as this book. So if you own this book already, don't bother buying Four Decades of Muscle
The best of the lot.......2001-09-19
I've just purchaed a 1973 GTO and bought 5 books on the subject. This is by far the best one. The pictures are wonderful and the analysis is both insightful and inspirational in an entrepreneurial sense (getting the GTO done over GM's massive corporate bureaucracy.) A must-read for the true GTO or musclecar fan.

A good reference book that could be better.......2001-08-28
Generally, "GTO Red Book" is a good reference source for people wanting to restore their 1964-1974 Pontiac GTO. It has most of the information serious performance buffs are looking for. However, there are some faults with this book that range from trivial to irritating to serious. I agree this book will generally work for fans of the GTO's more-pedestrian sister models, the Tempest, Tempest Custom and LeMans (e.g., a grocery-getter Tempest Custom sedan or a Tempest coupe with a high-performance engine). However, there are some people out there interested in options and option codes for the Tempest and LeMans models, too. Also, a listing of dealer-installed and Custom accesories will definitely assist in helping the serious mid-sized Pontiac fan build anything from a taxi to family sedan to high-performance brute. Also, where are the installation rates of the various options and accessories? Sure, this information might not be available, and might be included in a future edition of this book, but it still is a glaring oversight that some might find valuable. While I hope there will be a future edition of "GTO Red Book" in the future, I think an even better idea might be to include Pontiac's other high-performance models (and their sister lines) as well (e.g., Catalina 2+2 and other related models, such as the base Catalina, Star Chief and Bonneville lines; Firebird; etc.). Though I rate this book at 4 stars, it could have been better. A book like this will undoubtedly meet many needs, but it ought to meet even more.

This book is a must have if you are serious about buying, selling, or restoring a GTO. The information it contains can save you alot of time, money, and aggervation.

This book has a lot of very good information in it. The only thing I would like to see is more photos of options on the cars, like seats, gauges,shifters, etc. But overall it is a very informative book.

This is a great book to get information you need to restore an old gto or to learn more about the premeire musclecar. This book has every factory option you will ever find on any pontiac gto. The whole point of the book is to educate and inform the public of the abilities of these cars. This book is the single best book to find information on any year of gto you will ever even hope to own. It even gives you production numbers which are often hard to find. This book will even help you find out if the motor in your car is the origional one.

Like most "intellectuals", McGreevy is clueless.......2001-07-03
It's perfectly fine for John McGreevy to sit in his ivory tower and pass judgment on those he deems "racist."
What he needs is a reality check....he should take a ride through ANY big city and see how once vital working class neighborhoods have been turned to dangerous slums by his precious "integration."
He needs to be shown the ever-growing lists of all the Catholic churches and schools that have been closed and parishes either merged or phased out of existence...many over 100 years old... because the denizens of these "changed" neighborhoods either can't or won't support them.
Like most of the so-called "intelligenstia", McGreevy fails to see that what is marvelous in theory just does not work in reality.

Organize MY Family? ..........2000-06-11
In desperation, I turned to "Organize Your Family...Simple Routines For You and Your Kids". I am an incredbly left brained person and orgnization comes somewhat naturally. My daughter is extremely right brained. The problem is comunicating my ideas into something she can understand and follow. Not as easy as one might think. This book saved her life and my sanity. There are a lot of books on the shelves, but they deal mostly with desks, files and grown-up stuff. Our goal was to teach organization now so that she can accomplish more in life. The book was easy to follow and broken up in to easy-to-refer-back-to categories. We still have a ways to go, but we have put some of the tecniques into practice.
