AUTHORBIO: Mary Frank Gaston's study of antiques began during the mid-1960s when she and her husband lived in New England which is so rich in our nation's history. She has authored many titles, with subjects including Flow Blue China, Blue Willow, English China, Limoges Porcelain, R.S. Prussia, Antique Brass Copper, Knowles, Taylor Knowles China, and Art Deco. Most of her books have seen multiple editions and/or volumes, as her books are extremely popular among collectors. REVIEW: This book highlights a selection of pieces featured in the author's previous two editions on Blue Willow, and also includes many new examples never before seen. The legend of Blue Willow is presented, along with information on manufacturers and marks. It is the most comprehensive reference to date on the subject.

Blue Willow: Identification & Value Guide.......2007-06-03
Very pleased with the condition the book we ordered came in and the delivery was very quick. Thanks and would buy from you again.
Light on Guidance.......2007-03-30
This book contains interesting information about the origin of this design style but little detail about any of the many varieties that were/are being made. It is about 2/3 taken up with photographs of various styles but with only one or two pieces of any given style and no details about each or any idea of what the variety of other pieces within each style look like, so it is nearly impossible to truly identify the style you have or want. I was interested in the information, but found little guidance in my quest to discover more about the pieces that I own. Even the prices given are merely a recount of the price paid for each piece; but not when the purhcase was made or under what conditions or whether this is a reflection of the relative "value" of a given style of the blue willow design.
An excellent reference book!.......2007-01-11
The book "Blue Willow: Identification & Value Guide" is an excellent reference book. Not only does it give a better understanding of all the different Willow patterns out there, it also contains beautiful, very clear illustrations. The quality of the paperback edition is excellent, using glossy, very good quality paper that enhances the photographs. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Blue Willow dinnerware. I bought the book for my husband who knew nothing about Blue Willow before this purchase. He is now much more knowledgeable on the subject and is confident in his purchasing. As a novice, it has helped my husband greatly.
This book gives excellent value for money........2004-07-30
I bought this out of curiousity brought on by the possession of two subtley disparate pieces of Blue Willow ware about which I was curious as I was under the impression that the patterns were all the same. This book immediately disabused me of this notion which is, in big part, why this is such a great reference: Because it shows and describes a myriad of different vessels, wares, designs, and manutacturers in FULL COLOR with information that is relevant and helpful to both the novice and the professional.
If you thought you knew quite a bit about the Blue Willow pattern, I guarantee that this book will humble you because the author presents such a broad range of items (with a present day price range) from USA, China, the UK and Japan, ranging from plates and saucers to cups and pots to spoons and utensils to platters and chargers to egg stands and vases that only the most serious collector can hope to have seen as much different material as found here. There is also a helpful section on, believe it or not, reproductions. I think that you will be quite happy with this book even if, like me, you do not collect the stuff.

Book Description
Accademia di architettura
Mendrisio
This publication on the construction of the Kimbell Art Museum by Louis I. Kahn may prove very useful to students, and to anyone interested in gaining further knowledge of the distinctive features of the Kimbell museum. It documents the long and arduous quest that often characterizes a creative process-- even that of a great master such as Louis I. Kahn. The design of the Kimbell Art Museum is the product of extraordinary intuition, and results in a masterly synthesis that solves all the problems posed by the site and the specific purpose of the construction.
i Cataloghi dell'Accademia di architettura
2
The series "I Cataloghi" documents the exhibitions, i.e. reviews undertaken by the Academy of Architecture of the architectural works and events of the 20th century. The initial stages are dedicated primarily to a comparison between the principal figures of this century and contemporary emerging architects. This comparison attempts to trace the link that unites the birth and development of a theory to its subsequent concrete application, along the 'winding path' of research. The exhibitions and their accompanying catalogues aim to offer all readers, not only those attending the Academy, a review of architects and architectural works that have enriched and continue to enrich the discipline of building.

Louis I. Kahn: Building Art and Building Science
ASIN: 0822309890 |
Book Description
The art museum has become a prestige commission for contemporary architects, and for several decades reference has been made to a “museum building boom.” Among these new museums, those of Louis Kahn are especially admired. This significant American architect, who ranks in this century with Frank Lloyd Wright both as a creator and as an influence, has made a special contribution to the architecture of museums and has helped create a subtle but telling change in the concept of what a late twentieth-century museum building should be.
After a brief look at the development of a tradition in museum architecture, this study examines Kahn’s three art museums: the Yale University Art Gallery, the Kimbell Art Museum, and the Yale Center for British Art. It traces the development of each museum through museum through its various stages: the background of the institutions and the commissions, the programs for the buildings, their designs and evolutions, their constructions, and the evaluations of the completed buildings. Material on Kahn’s plans for a museum for the De Menil collection, begun shortly before his death, is also included.
Accompanying the text are illustrations of the buildings, including Kahn’s personal sketches, architectural plans and sections, and presentation perspective drawings. Photographs of the finished buildings present the transformed vision of the architect in tangible form, showing that the museums, while related, are individualized accomplishments. This is the first comprehensive study of Kahn’s museums.

Book Description
The Yale Center for British Art is a building that works equally well for research scholars, for third-graders on their first visit to a museum, and for seasoned art lovers. No more and no less than any great building, Robinson and Finn show us, the Center is a work of art in its own right.

These sketches document three visits to the Mediterranean--in 1928-29, 1950-51, and 1959--which were instrumental in shaping the ideas of Louis Kahn, America's greatest postwar architect. They include Kahn's early drawings of the Tuscan hill town of San Gimignano, whose towers would later appear in his Brutalist buildings; and his later more interpretive and emotion-charged sketches of the Valley of the Kings in Egypt and St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. This catalogue accompanies a December 1996 exhibition of Kahn's drawings with the same title at the Jewish Museum in New York, organized by the authors, who teach art history at Williams College.
Book Description
with an essay and site photographs by
Ralph Lieberman
Louis I. Kahn (1901-1974) was among the most highly regarded twentieth-century architects, yet the relationship of his haunting travel sketches to his work has not been systematically explored until now. Drawn from the Source shows how Kahn's encounters with the great buildings of the past influenced his own architecture, and how monuments such as the Salk Institute and the Kimbell Art Museum employ natural materials and natural light to create a sense of permanence and communal space inspired by buildings far removed in time and place.
Drawn from the Source describes Kahn's journeys to Europe and Asia in 1928-1929, 1951, and 1959, culminating in the great pastel sketches that circulated privately among architects and played a large part in the revival of architectural sketching in recent years. Each sketching episode is considered in terms of its contribution to Kahn's later architectural formulations, showing how he worked from his sketches to make that great synthesis of modernism and historical form that distinguishes his work.
Kahn's itineraries are vividly reconstructed through surviving watercolor, pastel, and pencil drawings that reveal rapid shifts in style, sometimes week by week, while he developed a way of drawing that reflected his understanding of architectural form. Specially commissioned photographs taken by Ralph Lieberman from the precise viewpoints of the drawings document the variance of the sites from Kahn's selective interpretation of them.
