Book Description
60th Anniversary Edition 560 pages, the largest Standard Coin catalogue ever, divided into three main sections; Circulating Legal Tender (CLT) coins, Non Circulating Legal Tender (NCLT) coins and Dollar Varieties, a virtual encyclopedia of Canadian Numismatic information. The Circulating Legal Tender section; Page 1 to page 249: All the new and current information has been added, new issues from the 2004 Poppy quarter, the 2005 Saskatchewan and Alberta 25 cent coins to the one dollar 25th anniversary of Terry Fox¡¯s Marathon of Hope. A newly found 50 cent, 1881 copper pattern, and the new 2004 Test Token set are listed and priced. Prices have undergone a complete revision on two fronts, first by giving more weight to land and virtual auction prices realized, and secondly, by removing from the pricing columns all prices that are not supported by the ICCS 2005 POPS report. It is difficult to price a coin when after nearly twenty years it has never turned up for grading.
The Non-Circulating Legal Tender section; Page 250 to page 457: The Royal Canadian Mint issues for 2004 and the first quarter of 2005 are illustrated, listed and priced. Over thirty newly designed coins were added to the NCLT collection for 2004 and 2005. With the Mint now producing either to demand or to a very limited mintage, prices are proving to be more interesting to the collector. Another innovation this year in the 60th Edition are the new pricing tables indicating what the major dealers in the industry feel is the average condition of the NCLT coins. For example, proof sets, the coins will be found in an average grade of PR-67. Of course a grading company when asked to specifically grade a coin from a proof set may assign the average, PR-67, but could easily grade higher or lower, depending on the actual quality.
The Variety Section; Page 458 to page 547: The Variety Section in the 60th Edition is devoted solely to dollar varieties, with over a hundred different listings. This marks the beginning of a Variety Section devoted to a single denomination with the varieties being listed in chronological order.
Over 15 different varieties of the counterstamped ¡°JOP¡° dollars are listed, along with two stamps that are set aside as possible counterfeits.
Two newly recorded varieties, a 1947 Blunt 7 with a low ¡°47¡± and a 1948 with a low ¡°4¡± and large ¡°8¡± are illustrated for the variety dollar collector who thought he had everything.
The NCLT section contains for the first time a description of the finishes used on coins issued from 1954 to 2005. Since 1981 finishes have become a marketing tool of the Royal Canadian Mint. Grading companies are now assigning Proof and Specimen numerical grades recognizing the importance of the finish on coins.
In the 61st Edition, next year, the 50 cent coin and its varieties will move to centre stage and will appear in that edition.
The 60th Edition of the Canadian Coins is available from Numismatic Dealers, Bookstores, Online Bookstores or directly from the Publisher.

Not only was Claude Monet (1840-1926) a leading member of the impressionist movement, he was also, as this charming book reveals, a master interior decorator. A virtual room-by-room guided tour of Monet's beautiful and much-visited home at Giverny, this volume offers a vivid impression of daily life in the beloved house where the artist lived for 40 years with his second wife and their eight children. With its pink stucco walls, green shutters, and brightly painted original furniture, the house reveals Monet's brilliance and innovation as a colorist, which transcended his light-infused canvases to inform his choice of hues for wall paint and furniture. Each room is explored in its own chapter with glorious color photos: the dining room, painted in two shades of yellow and adorned with Japanese prints; the blue-and-white-tiled kitchen; the blue drawing room; the studio as it appeared in its heyday. Enlarged paint swatches of Monet's unique color combinations accompany each chapter so that readers can reproduce them in their own homes.Book Description

Book Description
Description: Monet's London: Artists' Reflections on the Thames intimately explores Expressionist Claude Monet's London series of paintings, especially those that immortalized the Thames River. In this volume we are invited to explore the scope of the socio-cultural context of that time, through the works of Monet's contemporaries: Derain, Coburn, Fenton, Pennell, and Whistler, to name a few. In the latter half of the 19th century, London, specifically around the Thames, had become a seductive urban landscape--a place that encouraged artists to create. Not only does Monet's London document an important exhibition, but it is also the first publication to thoroughly document and discuss the artistic and cultural context of Modernist London (1859-1914), with special emphasis on the visual power of the Thames River.

Monet in the 20th Century

After the scores of beautiful Monet books that have been published over the last two decades, it is hard to imagine that a new one could be indispensable. But this volume, the catalog of an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (fall 1998, then travels to the Royal Academy of Arts in London) is more than just lovely. The main essay, by Paul Hayes Tucker, is a spellbinding history that ably places Monet and his late works in the context of the shattering political upheavals of his time. Tucker demonstrates the patriotic ideal of La France, which for Monet and his public was the ur-subject of his entire oeuvre up to the end of the 19th century, from the crashing waves at Étretat to the shimmering facades of Chartres. Then came the Dreyfus affair, with the Catholic Church and French conservatives united in an anti-Semitic attack against the innocent Jewish army captain accused of treason. Monet passionately and actively joined the writer Émile Zola, who was arrested for defending Dreyfus in his famous article, "J'Accuse." Tucker traces the rift in Monet's use of imagery from this time forward, as he turns his back on quintessentially French scenes to focus instead on the closely observed gardens in his own back yard. Tucker also subtly evokes Monet's despair during the long years of World War I, and his often heroic efforts to be of use, despite his age. This sumptuous volume, with its 12 fold-out plates of the Water Lilies, is very, very beautiful, but its story of an aging artist deeply engaged in his art and his times is something even better. --Peggy MoormanBook Description
This sumptuously illustrated book examines for the first time the rich body of work that Monet completed from 1900 to his death in 1926, a period during which he was enormously productive and more venerated than ever before. .Customer Reviews:

This is what art criticism should be like........2000-04-07
This books shows what happens when an inquisitive mind investigates art. It answers not only any question that you had about Monet's art, but even those that you never thought of asking.
For example it addresses the signficance of the expansion of the French Railway system, and the growth of the middle class, in defining the market for art.
It addresses the canvas sizes used by Monet, and his progression from a history painter to a painter of genre paintings ( the one thing that he had in common with Degas ).
I think that the important thing about this book is that it shows that a thorough intellectual non-purely visual approach can be made to the analysis of art, without the use of artspeak. The result is a book that is both readable and informs. Oh what a novelty!
